SMH… Epitome of a bad mother , or bad batch of meth? A woman who shot her two young children, their father and a cousin in California’s Central Valley before committing suicide took video of herself on her iPad as she smoked methamphetamine prior to the killings, police said Monday. The apparent murder-suicide by 23-year-old Aide Mendez began Sunday morning when she argued with the father of her two children, 33-year-old Eduardo Lopez. After neighbors called police to report trouble, officers arrived to find Lopez outside the Silver Lakes Apartment with knife and gunshot wounds, said Lt. Mark Salazar, homicide commander for the Fresno Police Department. They heard a muffled shot from inside the first-floor apartment and discovered Mendez had killed herself, her boyfriend’s cousin, Paul Medina, 27, as well as her two children, 17-month-old Aliyah Echeverria and Isaiah Echeverria, 3. Police told The Fresno Bee they found Mendez in the bathroom, and found the children in the apartment’s bathtub, where they had been shot at least once. The boy was found dead on the scene, Salazar said. Police tried to resuscitate the girl but she later died at a nearby hospital. “We do know that drugs played a key role, but we don’t know to what extent,” Salazar said. “She was seen prior to the shooting smoking methamphetamine. She recorded herself on an iPad showing her and Paul Medina smoking meth. We know the power of meth.” Salazar said the time stamp on the iPad video would have to be tested but preliminary information indicated it was recorded within a few hours of the murder. “Her actions just seemed bizarre; her mannerism, the way she was moving her hands and her facial expressions,” Salazar said, noting other drugs may have been involved but that it would take weeks before the toxicology reports were complete. Lopez remained in critical condition Monday evening at Community Regional Medical Center with stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the neck, said Mary Lisa Russell, a hospital spokeswoman. A 7-year-old neighbor girl who was in the apartment escaped unharmed. Authorities said Monday they had yet to piece together a motive, but said family members reported that Mendez had lost a baby several years ago, and was still grieving over the loss. Police recovered 10 grams of meth, $8,000 in cash and three firearms in the apartment; two of them used. “There’s some things we just don’t know because most of the people in that house are dead and the one person who is alive can’t speak right now,” Salazar said. Jesus Gonzalez told KFSN-TV, an ABC affiliate in Fresno, that shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday he heard gunshots and then a pounding on his door. He opened the door to find Lopez bleeding profusely. “I opened the door and he fell in front of me, and I take him and I pull him inside,” Gonzalez said. He said that before he could drag Lopez inside, Mendez tried to pull him back outside again. Gonzalez said he shouted at her, “Hey, what happened, what happened?” and she ran off. The family lived in the back of the gated apartment complex in southeast Fresno, which has neat lawns, trees and a children’s playground. Neighbors said there was no indication of violence between the couple before Sunday’s shootings. “They would come out with the baby carriage, and the man was taking care of his children,” neighbor Eric Gonzalez said. Another neighbor said Monday residents were shaken by the shooting, and still struggling to comprehend what had happened. “It just really gets you thinking about how a mother could just grab her kids and kill them,” Lizeth Gonzalez, a mother of three small children who lives in the complex. “I never thought it would happen here. Whatever she did, I hope God can somehow forgive her.” This is a damned shame. R.I.P. to those precious babies and the young man who lost his life. This is so sad. Another man has died suspiciously in police custody. A Canadian resident has died in the tiny Caribbean island of Grenada, as a result of what the victim’s family alleges was police brutality. The prime minister of Grenada has ordered an investigation into the death of Oscar Bartholomew, a 39-year-old permanent resident of Canada. He died on Tuesday. Richard Simon, press secretary for Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, said Thomas is seeking more information about the circumstances surrounding Bartholomew’s death. Dunbar Belfon, superintendent of the Royal Grenada Police Force, says Bartholomew’s death is an “unfortunate incident.” He said police will be thoroughly investigating. “The force has a very good track record of being very impartial in terms of conducting similar investigations,” Belfon said. “We have been very forthright in determining whatever investigation that needs to be conducted, even though it is done against members of the same institution.” Media reports out of Grenada say that local police took Bartholomew into custody after he approached and hugged a female officer who he mistook for a friend. Belfon says the officer was in uniform and Bartholomew was taken into custody after assaulting her. Bartholomew’s aunt Josephine de Souza said that Bartholomew, along with his wife and his cousin, had stopped at the St. David’s police station on Monday afternoon for his wife to use the bathroom. The reports say Bartholomew was beaten while at the police station and died shortly thereafter. Bartholomew’s mother Phyllis Tate said that his wife saw the police take Bartholomew into the station. “When he was calling for her they shut the door in her face and she heard when all the lashes were falling on him. She did not see him again until the ambulance came and took him to the hospital, lifeless,” Tate told CTV News Channel on Wednesday. “It’s very hurtful to know that he didn’t do anything and they just take away his life from him.” His cousin Shem Pierre accused police of leaving Bartholomew bleeding in his cell for at least three hours before calling an ambulance at the insistence of his wife. According to doctors, Bartholomew died of a burst blood vessel in his brain. Family members gave their statements to police on Wednesday and say that they are looking into hiring an outside pathologist to conduct an independent autopsy. Damn shame. According to PEOPLE reports : Mel Gibson is now legally single after his divorce was finalized Friday in a Los Angeles courtroom, but bachelorhood came at a heavy price. Robyn, his ex-wife of nearly 30 years and the mother of their seven children, is walking away with half his fortune, once estimated to be as high as $850 million (according to the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2006) in what is considered the biggest divorce payout in Hollywood history. Because the couple didn’t have a prenuptial agreement, Robyn, 55, was legally entitled to half of everything he earned during their marriage. Among Gibson’s estimated assets: more than $600 million grossed by The Passion of the Christ alone; $100-plus million in real estate investments worldwide (he bought an island in Fiji for $15 million in 2005); and $75 million for film and TV projects for which Gibson, 55, executive produced. It appears some of his wealth has already been transferred to Robyn, in particular two Malibu homes worth a combined $22.5 million. As for film residuals, Robyn is entitled to half of every future check Gibson receives for the rest of his life. “I left my wife because we had no spiritual common ground,” Gibson told his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in secretly recorded tapes she made of the actor in February 2010. We couldn’t make this isht up if we tried… Authorities say a Tampa Bay area man ordered a beer at a bar, left to rob a nearby bank then came back to finish his beer. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old John Robin Whittle was arrested at the Hayloft Bar in Port Richey on Thursday afternoon. Deputies say he’s the man who robbed a Wells-Fargo bank branch earlier, but not before stopping off at the Hayloft for a brew. A bartender there says Whittle ordered a beer, disappeared for about 30 minutes and then returned to his beer. Deputies say they arrested him at the bar about 10 minutes after he left the bank.
