Shia LaBeouf Feels ‘Vindication’ After ‘Transformers 3’ Success

‘I feel vindicated for having guilt on my shoulders for the second movie,’ he tells MTV News of blockbuster ‘Dark of the Moon.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shia LaBeouf at the New York premiere of “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon” on June 28, 2011 Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage In the run up to the release of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” Shia LaBeouf was adamant about two things: the second chapter of his alien robot franchise honestly wasn’t very good at all and the newest sequel would blow everyone away. “It is the best movie we’ve made, I’m serious,” LaBeouf told MTV News in June. “It’s not a joke. I’m dead honest, man. I get myself in trouble all the time, but this is our best installment.” He’s probably right. “Dark of the Moon” is the top-grossing film in the series ($1.1 billion) and received an “A” CinemaScore from audiences, according to Paramount. Having announced that the third “Transformers” film will be his last, LaBeouf recently told us that he’s leaving the franchise on a high note. “For me, I feel vindicated for having guilt on my shoulders for the second movie,” he said. “There is vindication in this one being successful and people enjoying it.” Since finishing up the international press tour for “Dark of the Moon,” LaBeouf has been collaborating on a music video with Marilyn Manson and doing postproduction work on John Hillcoat’s “The Wettest County in the World,” a drama about Prohibition-era bootleggers. “That’s probably the biggest, coolest opportunity I’ve been allotted so far,” LaBeouf said of Hillcoat’s follow-up to “The Road.” “It’s the most colorful character I’ve been able to play, the most depth I’ve been able to show as an actor.” At the same time, the actor has been prepping for work on “The Company You Keep,” a political thriller that Robert Redford will direct and star in. “I’ve been in Redford’s office doing read-throughs,” LaBeouf said. “He’s very efficient with his time. He’s a master at juggling his time and his attention span. When his attention span is focused in your direction, he’s laser-beam focused. He knows exactly what he wants. He’s very specific. He’s hilarious and fun and vibrant and everything you’d want in a director. I’m very excited to see a man direct himself. I’ve never seen that happen on a set. I know how intense and tough that’s going to be. I’m showing up more as an audience member.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Coldplay Unveil ‘Paradise’ Single, Duet With Rihanna

Band’s much-anticipated Mylo Xyloto features 14 songs, including team-up with RiRi on ‘Princess Of China.’ By James Montgomery Coldplay’s fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto Photo: Parlophone Records They may still be tinkering with the tunes but, bit by bit, Coldplay are letting Mylo Xyloto out of the bag. On Monday (September 12), they not only unveiled the second single from the album — a pulsing, preternaturally pretty song called “Paradise” — they also revealed the full track list for Xyloto, a collection of 14 songs that includes one rather, uh, unexpected guest star: Rihanna . Yes, RiRi contributes vocals to the new track “Princess of China,” which, along with live Coldplay favorites like “M.M.I.X.,” “Hurts Like Heaven” and “Charlie Brown” made Xyloto’s final cut. Also included on the album are “Up In Flames” and “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart,” a pair of songs that Coldplay’s mysterious Roadie #42 recently described as “a masterwork of restraint” and “almost violently life-affirming,” respectively. Mylo Xyloto is produced by Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, with (as a press release from the band’s publicist puts it) “enoxification and additional composition” from Brian Eno. The album will hit stores in the U.S. on October 24. “Paradise” is the second official single off the disc, following in the footsteps of the massive “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” , and the similarities between the tracks don’t end there. With its shimmering electronic pulses, whomping beat, repeated vocal mantras, wide-screen harmonies and epic crescendo, “Paradise” seems like the spiritual sequel to “Waterfall” (the latter is even mentioned in frontman Chris Martin’s lyrics) and builds on a similar theme: one of maximum uplift. The final track list for Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto, according to the band’s spokesperson:

Blink-182’s ‘Heart’s All Gone’: Back To Basics

Second song from band’s upcoming Neighborhoods album is equally indebted to both classic Blink and iconic West Coast punk. By James Montgomery Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images It’s easy to compare Blink-182 ‘s brand-new “Heart’s All Gone” with ” Up All Night ,” the first song they released off their upcoming Neighborhoods album, mostly because the similarities begin and end right there. They are both songs by the band, and they are both on the new record. Perhaps, then, it’s best to contrast the two songs, because they’re different in just about every conceivable way. “Up All Night” premiered with much fanfare — on the band’s site and L.A. radio station KROQ — and was greeted with much the same. “Heart’s All Gone,” on the other hand, bowed without much notice: just a quick link on Mark Hoppus’ Google Plus page that took you to a new website and a simple instruction to “Command the ‘A’ ” (or, if you’re on a PC, “CTRL + A”). Doing so on the new site, of course, revealed not only lyrics but the song itself. And that’s when the differences between the two tracks really become apparent. Because while “Up All Night” synthesized all of the band’s previous endeavors (Plus-44, Angels & Airwaves, Box Car Racer) into something entirely new, “Heart’s All Gone” does the complete opposite: It is very much a blast from the past — both Blink’s and the West Coast punk scene that birthed them. With its breakneck guitars, yelped vocals and cascading drums, it sounds like something taken from Blink’s 1997 Dude Ranch album (or ’01’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket ), but at the same time, it also recalls classic West Coast churn and burn,

Thia Megia, Naima Adedapo Say Jamie Foxx Eased ‘American Idol’ Exit

‘It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,’ Megia tells MTV News of results-show performance with will.i.am. By Jim Cantiello Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia Photo: MTV News If you watched Jamie Foxx and will.i.am’s high-energy “Hot Wings” performance on last week’s “American Idol” results show and thought to yourself, “Where have I seen this before?” you weren’t alone. Naima Adedapo rocked a similar drums-and-dance flavor the week before when she performed “Dancing in the Streets,” and the newly eliminated singer loved the similarities. “It was for me! It was like my exit parade,” joked Adedapo, who made a name for herself with equally colorful production numbers on “Idol.” In fact, the over-the-top spectacle was just what the doctor ordered for Adedapo and fellow eliminated castmate Thia Megia , who both boogied on the sidelines during Foxx and will.i.am’s appearance despite knowing that the odds were against them once Ryan Seacrest got around to announcing the results. “It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,” said Megia, who stopped by MTV News with Adedapo to discuss their time on “Idol.” “I think it was perfect that they did that [particular performance] before the results. It just made me feel so much better.” “I was like, ‘I’m happy! It doesn’t even matter now. I’m happy!’ ” gushed Adedapo, who also admitted that it took all of energy not to run up onstage and join the Carnival-inspired choreography. “I wanted to jump over the couch and get it in with them. They did such a wonderful job. … I was yelling the whole time. You could probably ask the dancers. I was like, ‘You better get it! You better get it!’ ” she laughed. Adedapo and Megia have plenty of time to plan future dance routines for the upcoming American Idols Live! Tour. The two of them will join the rest of the top 11 as they hit up North American venues this summer. Were you sad to see Adedapo and Megia go? Let us know in the comments! Is T-Pain Signing To Young Money?

According to a jeweler who just crafted a Nappy Boy/ Young Money piece, T-Pain is heading to the hitmaking crew. By Mawuse Ziegbe T-Pain Photo: Raymond Boyd/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images Will the king of Auto-Tune soon rock some Young Money-approved jewels? Judging by the footage of some bling that recently hit the Web, T-Pain may be the newest member of Wayne’s crew. In a video that surfaced online Thursday (December 30), jeweler Gabriel Jacobs , who has created rock-laden pieces for Birdman, 50 Cent and more, shows off a hefty ruby-and-black-diamond-studded piece in the shape of the New York Yankees-inspired Young Money logo that also features what appear to be tiny Nappy Boy insignias (the mark of Pain’s label) along the sides. Jacobs says in the clip that he crafted the king-size ice, which he says costs about $40,000 alone and almost $100,000 with the chain, because Pain is signing with Weezy’s camp. A rep for T-Pain did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment at press time. A T-Pain move to Young Money would continue the Auto-Tune crooner’s longstanding musical relationship with Weezy. Wayne and T-Pain have already charted together with collabos like Weezy’s Tha Carter III single “Got Money” and Pain’s Thr33 Ringz cut “Can’t Believe It,” which both dropped in 2008. The dreadlocked duo have also maintained that they plan to put out a joint album, an effort Pain told MTV News in March was temporarily thwarted by Weezy’s eight-month prison bid. “The T-Wayne album, we’re actually gonna wait until he gets out,” Pain said about Weezy’s jail time . “He has so much going on. He has Rebirth out right now. I don’t wanna interrupt that. We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that. We recorded a bunch of songs. But, right now, it’s time for him and his personal sh–. We definitely got an album’s worth of material, but it’s only an album’s worth. It’s nothing to pick from. We just got an album. We can put out whatever we feel like and say, ‘Hey, this is T-Wayne’s album,’ or we can actually try to make it good. Like we’re actually trying to make an album and say, ‘This is the good T-Wayne album.’ Rather than just record 12 songs and say, ‘Here you go, mutha—-as! I know you want it. You gonna buy it anyway, just ’cause you think it’s good.’ ” For Wayne’s part, the MC has said that the collabo-friendly stars “both have the same energy” when he explained their similarities to MTV News in 2008 . “I don’t sleep. If you ask anybody, I don’t sleep. I think it’s the cousin of death. As much as you sleep, you’re impersonating death to me. He don’t sleep. I play all day. He plays all day and all night. The connection is crazy,” he said. “He loves to be creative, he loves to work; I love to create, I love to work. He really wants people to respect his rapping; I really want people to respect my harmonizing.” Do you think T-Pain should sign with Young Money? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists T-Pain

Washington Post/MSNBC’s Robinson Plagiarizes Peter Jennings on Electorate’s ‘Temper Tantrum’

The late Peter Jennings, shortly after the Republicans took control of Congress in 1994: “Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week.” Washington Post Associate Editor Eugene Robinson , a frequent guest analyst on MSNBC, in his Friday column on polls showing voters will throw out Democrats, again, in November: “This isn’t an ‘electoral wave,’ it’s a temper tantrum.” More Jennings from 1994: “Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old.” And more from Robinson this year: “The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.” James Taranto highlighted the similarities in his Friday “Best of the Web Today ” for the Wall Street Journal’s online opinion page. Then-ABC World News Tonight anchor Peter Jennings in his daily ABC Radio commentary of November 14, 1994, the winner of the “ Sore Losers Award (for Midterm Election Reporting) ” in the MRC’s “ The Best Notable Quotables of 1994: The Seventh Annual Awards for the Year’s Worst Reporting .” Some thoughts on those angry voters. Ask parents of any two-year-old and they can tell you about those temper tantrums: the stomping feet, the rolling eyes, the screaming. It’s clear that the anger controls the child and not the other way around. It’s the job of the parent to teach the child to control the anger and channel it in a positive way. Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week….Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old. Robinson’s September 3 column, “ The spoiled-brat American electorate ,” began: According to polls, Americans are in a mood to hold their breath until they turn blue. Voters appear to be so fed up with the Democrats that they’re ready to toss them out in favor of the Republicans — for whom, according to those same polls, the nation has even greater contempt. This isn’t an “electoral wave,” it’s a temper tantrum. Later: But there’s no mistaking the public mood, and the truth is that it makes no sense. In the punditry business, it’s considered bad form to question the essential wisdom of the American people. But at this point, it’s impossible to ignore the obvious: The American people are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.
