Creative director of Simon Cowell’s upcoming competition series tells MTV News it will be ‘like the VMAs every week.’ By Jocelyn Vena Brian Friedman Photo: MTV News Fans have been wondering for months now what to expect when Simon Cowell’s Stateside interpretation of “The X Factor” starts up on September 21. According to the Fox show’s creative director, Brian Friedman, it’s going to be … big. “Basically ‘The X Factor’ in the U.S. is every reality show you’ve [ever] seen on steroids,” he told MTV News when we caught up with him on the 2011 VMA black carpet. “It is like the VMAs every week.” Friedman — a veteran choreographer who has worked with a number of pop stars, most notably Britney Spears — has a history with “The X Factor” franchise. He not only hosted the British version for some time, but he also served as its creative director. The Fox show will step up its game week after week to ensure that it’s all about going big or going home, Friedman promised. “The performances that we do on there are boundless; there are no boundaries,” he continued. “We don’t stand inside a box. There is no right or wrong. Every rule you could possibly break in TV, [we do]. So expect to be wowed every week.” Friedman joins host Steve Jones , as well as the judges: Cowell and his former “American Idol” co-star Paula Abdul , record executive L.A. Reid and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger “American Idol” has always had scratch-your-head-type contestants, and earlier this year Cowell confessed that he hoped to keep that spirit alive on his new show. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell laughed. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” Will you be watching “The X Factor” when it premieres this month? Bad news for the 30-40 percent of THG readers who see Jersey Shore articles and leave comments to the effect of “GET THIS CRAP OFF THE AIR!!!” Not happening anytime soon. Based on preliminary Nielsen data, the Jersey Shore Season 4 premiere earned monster ratings last night – a 4.6 rating among adults ages 18-49 and a projected 9.7 million viewers overall – shattering last January’s then-record debut. Jersey Shore’s ratings are bigger than Vinny’s … fuhgedaboutit . Unfortunately for the naysayers, the absurd quotes , blowouts, genuineness and “yes, this happened factor” continue to power the show to huge success. Short story? These record ratings may not be the cast’s last. With a season being described as “the most insane yet” by producers, and a couple of surprising developments in the works already, we can’t wait.

After two cities’ worth of audition sessions, Cowell said, “we felt that she was going to be more comfortable doing the UK show than the American one [and] I thought it would be been good for the show over there.” Will Mariah Carey appear on the show ? It sounds that way. “She selfishly got pregnant,” Simon joked, “which is why she didn’t end up as a judge.” What will the winner receive? Forget Mayor of New York City . Camille Grammer says her ex-husband has his political sights set much higher. “He told me when I first met him that he wanted to run for president. This has been a lifelong dream for him,” the reality star told The New York Post this week. But if the actor really does run for office, he won’t be able to count on at least a few votes. “He’s got to learn how to run a family first before he can run a city,” Kyle Richards told People , referring to Kelsey’s ongoing custody struggle with Camille. Added Lisa Vanderpump: “He’s such a good example of great morals and family value. I’ll be voting for him with a kick up the ass.” Would you vote for Kelsey Grammer for President of the United States?
We’re less than two months away from the premiere of The X Factor . On September 21, Fox will finally air this much-hyped singing competition, which reunites Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, while introducing L.A. Reid to viewers and also letting us drool over Nicole Scherzinger. In anticipation of the monumental television event, the series has released the following, skyscraper-themed promotional photo of the show’s cast: Are you excited for The X Factor?
‘If the show’s popular, people will hopefully know when the schedule changes and they’ll still watch it,’ ‘X Factor’ creator says. By Jocelyn Vena The “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell Photo: Ray Mickshaw/ FOX On Tuesday night during the MLB All-Star Game , viewers got a sneak peek of the upcoming season of “X Factor.” In it, fans were reacquainted with Simon Cowell — both the good and the bad — and Paula Abdul and got to meet new judges Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid. This marks the first time, but not the last time, that “X Factor” and baseball will cross paths. When MTV News spoke to show creator Simon Cowell earlier this year, he weighed in on how Fox and the show were planning on scheduling the reality competition during the tail end of baseball season, which may affect “X Factor” airings. “Well, Fox shows baseball, so I mean it’s not 100 percent ideal and it does affect a couple of weeks, but we’ve got some ideas, which we’re talking to the network about, which are slightly different to what other shows have done,” Cowell explained. The show kicks off on September 21 and the 2011 baseball season still has a long way to go, but Cowell insists fans won’t have a hard time balancing the two. “So it might work in our favor, and my gut feeling is if the show’s popular, people will hopefully know when the schedule changes and they’ll still watch it,” he added. While the show isn’t that different from his former gig at “American Idol,” Cowell said that he’s excited to try out something new. “When you do something new, it’s definitely more fun, otherwise you get into a routine and it’s like that movie ‘Groundhog Day,’ ” he said. “And this reminds me of when we were launching ‘Idol’ 10 years ago. I didn’t know what was going to happen or if anyone was going to watch it and it was exciting. “And this is sort of the same because nobody knows what this show is really going to look like. And if it’s anything like I hope it’s going to be, it’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
Here are some pictures of Cheryl Cole wearing a dress that all girls should wear, except maybe the girl I just saw walking out of the Dunkin Donuts, she should probably stick to wearing elastic band pants and oversized shirt, cuz she’s fucking disgusting, Cheryl Cole on the otherhand is quite spectacular, prison tattoos and all and America is gonna fall in love with her on Simon Cowell’s new show. Get ready for it with her tits.
Over at Movieline sister site Deadline, Nikki Finke’s got a whopper of an interview with Simon Cowell , who revealed to her his proposed line-up of judges for the U.S. version of the British reality contest series The X Factor . Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will be involved in his new televised singing competition, The X-Factor . Mariah’s role in the show has yet to be fully determined. “I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows,” Cowell confirmed to radio personality Jackie Brown. “I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with. She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.” Music industry exec, L.A. Reid , who was recently announced as a judge on The X-Factor , oversaw Mariah Carey’s recent comeback that began with her multi-platinum The Emancipation Of Mimi album in 2005.
