L.A. Reid “Looking for Crazy” As ‘X Factor’ Judge

Read more:

Last month, L.A. Reid announced his departure as chairman of Island Def Jam Records to secure a judging gig for the U.S. edition of Simon Cowell’s reality singing competition ‘The X Factor,’ which is scheduled to premiere in September. Maybe the letters from Nas and Shyne finally got to him but Reid will now be searching for new talent instead of managing the demands of current acts. The BoomBox.com caught up with Reid to find out why he left behind a gig behind a desk to wade through scores of wannabees looking for their big break. Why did you decide to leave Def Jam to join ‘The X Factor’? L.A. Reid: Well, I decided to do ‘The X Factor’ largely because of Simon Cowell and my admiration for Simon and how he’s developed this show, how he’s developed this format of music television, and how he’s developed his own career. I really admire Simon. When he called me it was a no-brainer because I admire him that much. And the second reason was I love artists and I love music. I love the excitement of entertainment and I love ‘The X Factor’ as a platform to discover the next generation of superstar talent. READ THE FULL INTERVIEW @ TVSQUAD.COM RELATED ARTICLES: L.A. Simon Cowell Says Fergie Was ‘Put Forward’ As Possible ‘X Factor’ Judge

He also explains new audition booths being placed around the country. By James Dinh Simon Cowell Photo: Ian Derry / FOX With “X Factor” auditions under way, Simon Cowell is slowly dishing out even more details surrounding the highly anticipated singing competition, including another possible contender for the show’s judging panel: Fergie . On Thursday (April 7), the former ” American Idol ” judge confirmed that the Black Eyed Peas songstress is among the many possible additions to the lineup. “All I can tell you is that her name was put forward,” Cowell said in a conference call with reporters. “But like a lot of other people we’ve spoken to, we have to check out everybody’s availability. There’s a lot of time you have to put into the show, because it’s not a ‘two-day-a-week’ with this. When you’re in the live show, it’s because you’re mentoring the contestant. You’re working five or six days a week.” In addition to talk of the show’s possible judges, Cowell also spoke about an alternative method hopefuls can go about auditioning for “X Factor.” In partnership with MyStudio, Cowell revealed that the series is expanding the audition process with recording studios across the country, where contestants can videotape an a cappella performance and explain why they should win the singing competition. Six audition studios will be available through the country and remain open until the end of April. “I don’t think it’s probably as fun as attending an open audition,” he said of the booth auditions. “But it is your chance to be seen and heard, and that’s why we’ve done this. I’m going to try and put these in as many cities as possible prior to our filming.” Asked how the show’s auditions are going thus far, the music exec exclaimed the turnout has been “great” and “much higher” than anticipated. In late February, Cowell broke down the rules for the forthcoming series in a promo, insisting America has yet to see a show like this before. “The show is basically a singing competition with a twist,” he said. “The auditions are open to anyone who can sing. You can be 12; you can be 112. You can be in a group; you can have 100 people in the group. It doesn’t matter.” “X Factor” MyStudio audition booths will open at the following dates/locations, according to a press release :

Brad Womack and Emily Maynard: Never Say Never!

If this isn’t a recipe for a happy family, we don’t know what is. It looks like Brad Womack has finally won over Ricki, his fiancee Emily Maynard’s five-year-old daughter, with probably the best possible combination: Justin Bieber and cotton candy. In this Us Weekly photo , The Bachelor couple and Ricki stepped out for a visit to the movie theater in Maynard’s hometown of Charlotte, N.C. It was cute. “He was smiling at her, and she looked really happy,” an observer says of the trio, who were emerging from a matinee of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never . Despite some major setbacks – long distance, a cancelld March wedding, a short-lived split, some poking of the bear – it looks like they’re gonna make it . Womack said it was “perfection” bonding with “my girls” during the visit over movies, Sunday church services, an IHOP run and shopping at Nordstrom. All together now … AWWWW! Things were looking down for awhile, but never say never! What do you think? Will Brad Womack and Emily Maynard last?

Simon Cowell Pushes for Nicole Scherzinger on The X-Factor

Nicki Minaj is out. Might Nicole Scherzinger be in? The hip hop star will not judge The X-Factor , but Simon Cowell himself sounds very close to naming the former Pussycat Doll as the second judge on his upcoming singing competition. “I want her to do it, but we’ve got to get the deal done and find someone she has chemistry with,” Cowell tells TV Guide. “I absolutely adore her. She was fantastic on the U.K. X Factor and I’m hopeful it will happen.” Cowell says Cheryl Cole is in the mix and also explains his connection to L.A. Reid , who has been confirmed for the panel. “I met him approximately fifteen years ago when he’d launched Pink for the first time. He put on a show and got every single person in the room to believe this person was a star. The way he presented her with his passion drew me to him and was a big part of why I chose him to be on the show. A “yes” or “no” from L.A. Reid should really mean something to the contestants.”

Simon Cowell Looking For ‘Unusual People’ At ‘X Factor’ Auditions

‘I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,’ Cowell says of contestants. By Jocelyn Vena Simon Cowell Photo: Brian Ach/ WireImage With only days until the first official “X Factor” audition kicks off, Simon Cowell recently dished to MTV News about what he’s looking for in an “X Factor” contender. And he admits he doesn’t mind if contestants are a bit freaky. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell laughed. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” So far, that judging panel includes famed record executive L.A. Reid , with more names to be announced soon. Mariah Carey reportedly passed on a judging opportunity, and Enrique Iglesias has been rumored to be a potential host for the show. Cowell says that with so much to gain as the winner of “X Factor,” it’s all about going big or going home. “Well, you know, there’s $5 million at stake on this show, we’re guaranteeing a winner a recording contract … so we’re looking for somebody who’s not just gonna be an artist who sells records in America,” he explained about making sure that special someone has global appeal. “We want someone who’s gonna sell all over the world,” he continued. “You look at what’s happened over the last couple of years, I think originality is key and you’ve got to be different to what’s out there already … I would say on this show, we’re much more open to people being ‘out there’ and anything goes, basically.” Audition dates for the show begin on Sunday, March 27, in Los Angeles, and continue on April 7 in Miami, April 14 in Newark, New Jersey, April 20 in Seattle, April 27 in Chicago, and May 26 in Dallas.
