Lady Gaga Won’t Tone Down Indonesian Concert Despite Protests

Gaga’s manager says if show goes on, it will be played ‘as it is,’ despite threats of violence from Islamic groups in Jakarta. Eduardo Saverin, Facebook Co-Founder, Renounces U.S. Citizenship in Advance of IPO

Eduardo Saverin, the billionaire Facebook co-founder portrayed by Andrew Garfield in The Social Network , is no longer an American citizen. Saverin, 30, renounced the U.S. citizenship he gained as a teenager in advance of the company’s impending IPO, a move met with criticism. He’s accused of trying to skip out on taxes with the move, though the Brazilian-born resident of Singapore has done nothing illegal at any point. Eduardo Saverin co-founded Facebook at age 21, was forced out two years later, sued CEO Mark Zuckerberg and ultimately settled out of court. He was given a share of the company that left him phenomenally wealthy. His stake, 4 percent of the company, will most likely be worth more than $3 billion when Facebook goes public Friday. Hence his exit now. Saverin joins a growing number of people giving up U.S. citizenship , a move that can trim their tax liabilities when residing in lower-tax nations. Said Tom Goodman, a spokesman for Saverin, in an e-mailed statement: “Eduardo recently found it more practical to become a resident of Singapore since he plans to live there for an indefinite period of time.” He professes ignorance about his taxes and refuses to discuss his finances. “This had nothing to do with taxes,” he insisted. “I was born in Brazil, I was a U.S. citizen for about 10 years. I thought of myself as a global citizen.” Saverin renounced U.S. citizenship “around September”, according to his spokesman. Singapore doesn’t have a capital gains tax. It does tax income earned in that nation, as well as “certain foreign- sourced income,” according to reports. Saverin won’t escape all U.S. taxes. Americans who give up their citizenship owe what is effectively an exit tax on the capital gains from stock holdings. Renouncing your citizenship in advance of an IPO is “a very smart idea,” said one expert, “Once it’s public you can’t fool around with the value.” Saverin’s decision to leave could have been a wager that the cost of an exit tax now – 15 percent of whatever valuation he could get the IRS to agree to – would be far less than the 35 percent or more in estate tax his heirs would face.

Madonna Releases ‘Give Me,’ Unveils MDNA Track List

‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ ‘ debuts Friday (February 3) in multimedia event preceding Queen of Pop’s Super Bowl halftime performance. By John Mitchell Madonna Photo: Getty Images Madonna debuted her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” on Friday (February 3) as part of a massive multimedia push ahead of her halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has also revealed the track list for her much-anticipated 12th studio album, MDNA . The Queen of Pop’s single was rolled out across Clear Channel’s many platforms, a promotional push that the company estimates will reach 150 million people around the world. In addition to radio, the song hit online venues like iHeartRadio.com, Clear Channel’s customized online radio service, and 1,600 digital billboards in the United States, France, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Singapore, Belgium, Finland and the United Kingdom, according to NPR . “This first-of-its-kind multimedia premiere with Madonna demonstrates the unequalled scope and strength of the entire Clear Channel platform,” Clear Channel CEO Bob Pittman said in a statement. The full-length Megaforce-directed video for the track also hit the Web Friday and features Her Madgesty and collaborators Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. taking to the streets in cheerleader-chic attire. “Luvin’ ” is a bouncy dance-pop track reminiscent of Madonna’s Grammy-winning “Beautiful Stranger.” Driven by glittery synths, marching band drums and claps, the song features guest raps from Minaj and M.I.A. and a deep nostalgia streak. With its simple, impossibly catchy chorus and “dance our lives away” message, the song, which was written and produced by Madonna and dance music master Martin Solveig, feels like classic Madonna re-imagined by the production dynamic that brought her widespread acclaim beginning with her 1998 electro-dance album Ray of Light . On her official website , Madonna revealed the track titles that will be featured on the deluxe edition of her new album, MDNA, which hits stores March 26 and features production work from Solveig and Light producer William Orbit. The deluxe edition will include 15 songs:

‘Glee’ Star Charice’s Father Killed

Singer confirms she’ll pull out of concerts this week to travel back to her native Philippines. By Jocelyn Vena Charice Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images “Glee” star and singing sensation Charice’s father was murdered in the Philippines, and the family tragedy has prompted the singer to pull out of concerts on Wednesday and Thursday, according to The Associated Press. “I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore,” she wrote on Twitter . “I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year.” According to reports, her 40-year-old father, construction worker Ricky Pempengco, had been at a grocery store in San Pedro township near Manila when he came in contact with a drunk man. After he brushed up against the man, the man stabbed him with an ice pick in the chest and back. Police in the area report that a manhunt is currently under way and a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Pempengco doesn’t appear to have been targeted, according to authorities. In another message to her fans, written in Filipino, the singer opened up about her relationship with her estranged dad saying, “We had a really great relationship” and “He’s still my Dad, after all.” Local reports suggest that Pempengco and Charice’s mother split when she and her brother were small. “I loved him and I will still love him,” she added about her father. Charice was first introduced to American audiences when she appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2008, following that up with an appearance last year. Since then, she has released several songs (“Pyramid,” “One Day”) and appeared on “Glee.” Her second studio album, Infinity, dropped earlier this year. Related Artists Charice
