Chris Brown disses Drake on his new remix track following their nightclub brawl, but he’s still got nothing but love when it comes to ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Rih is dealing with the death of her beloved grandmother, Ciara “Dolly” Brathwaite, in recent days, and has posted touching tweets and photos of her. “Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you,” she wrote. Brathwaite died of cancer late last week, and in the wake of the passing of “Gran Gran Dolly”, Brown posted a nice Tweet about Rihanna’s grandma. “Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN DOLLY! RIP,” said the 23-year-old R&B star. Brown’s mom, Joyce Hawkins, shared similar sentiments. “@rihanna ANGEL MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW. LOVE YOU ANGEL,” Hawkins tweeted Saturday as well. Clearly, Brown was once close to the singer and her family. Of course, Rihanna unfollowed Chris awhile back so it’s unclear if she’s seen this. Maybe he can mention it at their next hotel rendezvous .
The roaring Waldo Canyon fire that exploded into neighborhoods of Colorado Springs has destroyed 346 homes, making it the most destructive wildfire in state history. It also has claimed at least one life, according to reports. Colorado Springs Police Chief Pete Carey announced that human remains had been found in a burned home in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood. Other individuals are also missing, he said. He said the deceased’s body was found in the rubble and gave the address, but no further details. Colorado Fires Residents of the Mountain Shadows neighborhood were summoned to a meeting Thursday night at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. There, they learned with certainty which of their homes had survived and which had been consumed by the unprecedented firestorm this week. Police Chief Pete Carey said police are still trying to track down the whereabouts of “less than 10” people who may be unaccounted for. President Barack Obama was to tour fire-stricken areas Friday after issuing a disaster declaration for Colorado, releasing federal funds to help. Rich Harvey, the incident commander in charge of the massive firefighting effort, said that at the very least, the wildfires were held at bay overnight, with no growth of the perimeter and no more houses lost since Thursday. The fire was still only 15 percent contained as of Friday morning.
Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe was detained in Prague this week. He could face 5-10 years in prison for an altercation at a 2010 show that allegedly left a fan dead. Reports indicate the incident leading to the arrest of Blythe (full name D. Randall “Randy” Blythe) involved a man repeatedly rushing the stage from the crowd. He was ejected from the stage and later died of head injuries, according to WTVR, the CBS News affiliate in Lamb of God’s hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Lamb of God canceled a show at the Rock Cafe in Prague Thursday after the singer was brought in for questioning; reports differ as to what happened next. Some sources say Blythe was arrested and charged with “the crime of bodily harm of 4th degree and resulting in the death of a fan.” The band’s rep denies this. Randy’s brother, Mark Blythe, told WTVR that if manslaughter charge is actually filed, it is “bogus and outrageous and will be dropped immediately.” The band tweeted the hashtag #FreeRandyBlythe late Thursday. Blythe deleted his once extremely active personal Twitter account earlier this summer. Maria Ferrero, the Grammy-nominated band’s publicist, told MTV News that Lamb of God’s management will not comment in full until Monday. However: “As no formal charges have yet been made and the case is only in the investigation stages, it would be premature to make an official statement filled with false truths or innuendos.” “Having said that, management wished to address today one false piece of information that has been included in many of the news stories released so far.” “Under no circumstances was there a fight of any kind involved. This incident deals with a fan that three times during the concert jumped the barricade and rushed Randy during the performance. It is alleged that the third time, security was not able to reach him and that Randy pushed him back into the audience where supposedly he fell and hit his head.” “Again, until the investigation is concluded this weekend, nothing more will be released, but clarity and the facts needed to be addressed on this one reported point which is totally inaccurate.” [Photo: WENN.com]
Returning to Chicago for treatment on his vocal cords, Write Me Back singer cancels New York appearances, a rep tells MTV News. By Rob Markman R. Kelly Photo: R. Kelly ‘s voice defined a generation, but now the iconic singer’s vocal chords are a source of concern for him and his team. One of Kelly’s reps told MTV News that the singer — who released his 11th studio album, Write Me Back , on Tuesday — was on his way into New York City for a series of press obligations and appearances when he began to experience some discomfort. With Kellz and his team about three hours from the Big Apple, the bus turned around to head back to Kelly’s hometown of Chicago, where he will see a specialist. TMZ reported that the singer’s discomfort stems from his emergency surgery in July 2011, where doctors had to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils. According to the site, Kelly had to cancel scheduled appearances on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and NBC’s “Today” show and a book-launch party. The Pied Piper of R&B’s reps tell TMZ they are unsure how long he will be sidelined. Kelly was busy promoting his upcoming book, “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me.” On Tuesday, Rolling Stone ran an excerpt from the book in which the Grammy Award-winning singer expresses his admiration for the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. He reveals that he and ‘Pac discussed the possibility of doing a Best of Both Worlds about six years before Kelly and Jay-Z released their collaborative work. Unfortunately, Tupac’s tragic murder put an end to that idea. Kellz did have the chance to work with the Notorious B.I.G., however. Together, they recorded a few songs, including 1995’s “(You to Be) Be Happy” and 1997’s “F— You Tonight.” Still, Biggie left his biggest impression when Kelly auditioned the legendary rapper for an unfinished version of “I Believe I Can Fly.” “I’m gonna tell you right now, B, that’s a smash. That’s a big hit right there. That’s a Grammy winner, Rob,” Kelly recalls a tearful Biggie saying. “They gonna be playing that when you and I have moved onto the other side of time.” Share your get-well message for R. Experts predict animated film will hit #1 just as all 12 previous Pixar films have done. By Ryan J. Downey A scene from “Brave” Photo: By most accounts, “Brave” is expected to hit a box-office bull’s-eye this weekend. Industry watchers have predicted the latest from Disney/Pixar will continue the studio’s tradition of claiming the top spot. All 12 previous Pixar films hit #1 in wide release. The 3-D animated story of a free-spirited Scottish princess possessed of major bow-and-arrow prowess is set to debut in an estimated 4,000 locations. “The goodwill people feel for Pixar gets it to $62 million this weekend, even in the face of middling reviews,” IMDb’s Keith Simanton told MTV News. Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations , and HitFix.com co-founder/ editor in chief Gregory Ellwood predicted an opening in the $60 million range for “Brave” as well, although NextMovie.com editor Kevin Polowy put the movie’s bow closer to $50 million. The Los Angeles Times estimated the movie’s opening as high as $65 million. Critics have been mostly kind to “Brave” thus far but have withheld the type of loving adoration reserved for the “Toy Story” movies. The consensus is that the movie is good, but not great in the way fans of the brand have come to expect. ” ‘Brave’ Is No ‘Incredibles’ — but See the Latest Pixar Flick Anyway …,” was the headline for E! Online ‘s review, which went on to say the movie “may not boast the pitch-perfect storytelling of ‘Ratatouille’ ” but “it has belly laughs aplenty.” Nevertheless, a $60 million opening would be very strong. “That’s similar to what ‘Cars 2’ and ‘WALL-E’ debuted with, which is nothing to sneeze at,” Ellwood noted. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” managed to hang on to the top spot against new movies from Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler (which both flopped) last weekend and could pose somewhat of a problem for Pixar. ” ‘Madagascar 3’ is fast on its way to becoming the highest-grossing movie in the series, has tremendous word-of-mouth and benefits from being a better-known and trusted brand than ‘Brave,’ despite the Pixar connection,” Polowy pointed out. Simanton, on the other hand, said “Brave” doesn’t have much to worry about from last weekend’s #1 movie. ” ‘Madagascar’ benefited from having no competition for kids’ money during its run, but it’s winding down now. It likely makes $16 to $17M this weekend, but that won’t directly harm ‘Brave.’ ” Bock predicted $17 million for “Madagascar 3” as well, which will make for an excellent three-week total for a kid-franchise threequel. Simanton placed much of the movie’s success on its streamlined sense of purpose. “[It] went the same route as ‘Ice Age 3,’ almost dispensing with the need to continue to tell the story and heading instead to an almost purely comedic offering. The accountants would say that going for the laughs is good for the revenue stream. A parallel that I find interesting is ‘Kung Fu Panda 2.’ It opened better than ‘Ice Age 3’ with a higher per-theater average. However, it quickly suffered from its reviews and bad word-of-mouth. Things really changed when they hit the international stage: [‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’] made more internationally than ‘Panda 2’ made in total.” Where the third “Madagascar” movie goes straight for the laughs, the first-ever Pixar movie to feature a female protagonist at the center of the story is filled with action, swordplay, hulking bears and themes of tradition, honor and independence. “Pixar films aren’t just family films, they reach out to every demographic, so having a film that is a bit more mature shouldn’t affect business much,” Bock said. “Female heroines have been hot, with ‘Twilight,’ ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ It’s just a surprise it’s taken forward-thinking Pixar 12 films to give females a shot at headlining glory.” At times, “Brave” is much darker in tone than any previous Pixar movie. “It is much scarier than the standard Pixar offering and that will affect it,” Simanton said, adding that he found the film to be better than “Cars 2” but not as good as “Wall-E.” “Its comedic bits lack the Pixar touch. They’re loud and clumsy and not very much in character,” he said. As a result of all of these factors, he concluded, ” ‘Brave’ won’t likely have the same legs as other Pixar films in the coming weeks.” Whereas Pixar and the “Madagascar” franchise are well-known brands, the other big studio picture this weekend will likely suffer from a lack of awareness. Based on the book of the same name, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is a mixture of action and horror that re-imagines the Civil War president as a stake-wielding badass. ” ‘Lincoln’ is looking at $20 million for the weekend,” Ellwood predicted. “Considering the early buzz, that’s face saving for 20th Century Fox.” “I think Fox would be fortunate if ‘Abe’ opened with $20+ million,” agreed Bock. “Mash-ups are typically a difficult sell, and historical/horror has never had a hit that I’m aware of. This is probably the riskiest endeavor of the summer, and the fact that it looks more like a video game than a movie certainly doesn’t help its cause.” “Director Timur Bekmambetov has gone up against Pixar before, when 2008’s ‘Wanted’ opened against ‘Wall-E’ and held its own, grossing $50 million,” Bock added. “But honestly, that had more to do with Angelina Jolie than anything else. With a cast of relative unknowns, ‘Lincoln’ may find itself without much public support.” Opening in more than 3,000 locations, “Lincoln” will need to match the $24 million collected by “Zombieland” in order to be considered a success, according to Simanton. “I’m putting it at $19 million, but it may be closer to $17 million,” he said. If “Lincoln” isn’t a success, it could spell more trouble for “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” which has already had a rough road going from the page to the screen. Even with Lionsgate behind the film and Natalie Portman attached as producer, the project has already been through three directors since it was first announced. “If ‘Abe’ outright bombs this weekend, [‘Pride’] may just be dead,” Bock said. “Even the undead know that’s not a good thing. With an estimated budget of $70 million, ‘Abe’ isn’t that big of risk for Fox, but they need more than just fanboys to convert the masses. Odds are this is headed more towards pennies than $5 bills, though, as this is the strangest-looking film to open since ‘Howard the Duck.’ And we know how that ended.” Simanton likened “Lincoln” to one of last week’s bombs. “It falls into that nether realm occupied by ‘Rock of Ages.’ Guys were supposed to go to it but didn’t. Those exit poll demographics will harm ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ if they don’t skew towards the coveted 18-35 male.” Whether or not “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” does decent business this weekend shouldn’t have any long-term effects for Steve Carell and his post-“Office” career. “It’s a low-budget indie he shot that is being released semi-wide,” Ellwood noted. “If it was a big studio release, it would be much more important.” “It’s not a big studio film and isn’t being presented as one in the marketing or [as] a film Carell is supposed to carry,” agreed Simanton. “Steve Carell is already a bona fide movie star. ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ solidified that,” Bock added. ” ‘The Office’ certainly helped bring him to the forefront, but he’s so popular now, he can afford to take some risks. ‘Seeking a Friend’ probably won’t be a huge hit, but it will definitely have its fans.” “If the guy survived the mega-budgeted bomb ‘Evan Almighty,’ he can survive anything,” Polowy said. Woody Allen’s “To Rome With Love” will open in even fewer theaters than Carell’s picture. Last year, Allen had his biggest success to date ($56.8 million domestically) with Sony Pictures Classic’s “Midnight in Paris,” which boasts a 93 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes . This weekend’s follow-up sat at 53 percent at press time. “Woody Allen had the biggest gross of his career with ‘Paris,’ but as is the case with ‘The Woodman,’ for every amazing film he unspools, there are two or three misfires,” Bock said.”That’s the risk you take making a movie every year as he has done. Nobody can churn out quality every time.” ” ‘Rome”s reviews have been unkind and that typically does handicap an Allen film,” Simanton said. ” ‘Midnight”s immediate predecessor, ‘You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger’ — which isn’t all that bad, in my opinion — barely made $3.2 million domestically in its entire run.” Ellwood predicted that “Rome” will perform “closer to a traditional Allen movie” than “Paris,” with somewhere between $5 million to $10 million domestically. Lovato shuts down rumors that she and Horan are dating in a recent radio interview. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: So, are they or aren’t they? Well, according to Demi Lovato herself, she and One Direction ‘s Niall Horan aren’t dating. While he called her a “cool girl” in a recent interview and there’s even been suggestion that they’ve Skyped with each other — the mark of any true romance — the singer herself, in a new radio interview, says he’s nothing more than a pal. “I don’t even know who One Direction is … it’s so crazy. I’m kidding,” she told B104 Radio . “No, Niall’s a friend of mine. I do know who he is and everyone knows who One Direction is.” While they are just friends, she does note that his “cool” feelings for her are reciprocated. “But, yeah, we’re just friends,” she said. “And he’s awesome.” Regardless of where Demi and Niall stand in the romance department, Niall’s bandmates hinted he might want to be more than friends in a recent appearance on the Canadian entertainment news show “etalk.” In a game called “Rapid Fire Romance,” a photo of a female celebrity would show up, and the guys had to pick which of their bandmates would be the best match. When Demi’s photo came up in the pile, Horan’s bandmate, Louis Tomlinson, joked, “Niall. 100 percent.” From there, Harry Styles, had a bit more fun at Horan’s expense, further joking, “Niall dreams dirty things!” Since the guys dropped their chart-topping debut, Up All Night, there have been a number of romance rumors about them floating around. Most notably, Harry Styles had been famously linked to Taylor Swift for some time. When MTV News chatted with the guys earlier this year about all the love they have been receiving from the pop world’s biggest princesses, they admitted they didn’t mind all the attention. “[It’s] really exciting, I suppose,” Liam Payne said back in April shortly after they performed at the Kids’ Choice Awards. “And even following Katy Perry on the stage as well was a big thing for us. It’s just amazing to be in the same room as these sort of people, for us to just come over from England and just be involved.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: One Direction Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato One Direction
‘At the end of the day, mom took care of home,’ ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ star Scrappy tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Scrappy on “RapFix Live” Photo: One episode in, VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” already has captivated audiences with its wild cast of characters. Perhaps the most magnetic of the bunch is Momma Dee, mother to rap star Lil Scrappy . Momma Dee comes off as overprotective and overbearing, but it is clear that there is nothing she wouldn’t do for her children, including selling drugs and pimping to make ends meet. When Lil Scrappy appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” he opened up about the lengths his mother went to to provide for him. “Mom dukes was layin’ it down hard back in the day when I was coming up,” Lil Scrappy said. He recalled a time when a prostitute who was working for his mother left to join with a rival pimp. When Momma Dee finally met up with her ex-worker, violence ensued and a young Scrappy was there to witness it all. “My mama caught her slippin’ in traffic and bust her across the head with a crowbar,” he recalled. “That crowbar was stuck in her head and she was sittin’ there shakin’.” While the incident affected him at the time, the ATL rapper now awkwardly laughs it off. While Scrappy admits that he had to see some pretty awful things as a youngster, he doesn’t resent his mom for any of it. “I had to sleep in a room with mom dukes, and my little sister because all the whores was using the rooms to do their thing,” he said. “But at the end of the day, mom took care of home. Me and my sister ain’t never had to hurt for nothin’.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ Gets Scrappy Related Artists Lil Scrappy
In ‘All Around the World’ NBC special, Bieber shares, ‘It’s important I never forget where I came from.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on his “All Around The World” special Photo: Last time on Justin Bieber ‘s primetime special, “All Around the World,” the singer’s camp worried about him after he fell down some stairs following a concussion he suffered running into a glass wall during his performance in Paris. Well, on part two of the NBC special, fans get to see just what happened next. “He’s got a nice little bump. Doctors said he should be OK,” his manager, Scooter Braun, shares. “It just scared me in general when he was nonresponsive. … In that moment, when he was not waking up, that was scary.” While Braun was concerned about the star’s wellbeing, later on, Bieber is shown being mostly concerned about whether you can see the bump he got in the process. After wrapping up his time in Paris, Bieber embarks on more dates in Italy and Spain, where he meets more screaming, crying fans. “The team is definitely like a family. There’s never a dull moment,” Bieber says of his tour crew. “Seeing fans is always the most important to me,” he later says of his devotees. “I wouldn’t be in this position without them. Sometimes it can get really chaotic … but I go out of my way.” In addition to traveling the globe with his tightknit road family, in Spain, Bieber is joined by his little sister and dad. “Just being able to come back at the end of the night and see my little sister, it’s amazing,” he shares. While he has folks like his crew and family to keep him grounded, the pandemonium he causes everywhere he goes never lets up. Mexico City is next on the schedule. “I miss home … but it’s all worth it. I get to do so many other things that I wouldn’t get to experience. It’s been really a blessing,” he says. “I have definitely changed over the last few years, and I think it’s for the good. I think that I’m getting more mature. But as far me as a person, I think I’ll always be the same person.” Later on, Bieber visits his hometown in Canada. While there, he performs on the same street corner where he used to play before he was famous, noting how “weird” it is to do his own song there rather than a cover. “For me, it’s important I never forget where I came from,” he says. His trip around the globe ends in the Big Apple, where he prepares for a number of appearances and shows, including his now-infamous performance at the Apollo Theater , which he finished unplugged after losing power. “I want to go someplace Michael [Jackson] performed,” he says in the lead-up to the performance. Instead of shutting it down, Bieber continued the show with a sing-along and a dance battle, much to the delight of his fans. “My fans, to me, mean the world. I’m very blessed, and I have all my Beliebers to thank for that,” he notes. “I never thought that I would be in the position that I am now. I think that it’s so important that if you have a dream to just believe.” While in New York City, he also appeared on his very own MTV special, “Bieber Live,” where he opened up about his just-released new album, Believe . John Travolta is being sued by author Robert Randolph, who accuses the movie legend of numerous gay trysts and consequently claims that Travolta spread lies about Randolph’s mental health in order to diminish his credibility. Robert claims he personally saw John engage in gay sex at various bathhouses. The book, entitled You’ll Never Spa in This Town Again , details Travolta’s alleged sexual exploits with other men, including Randolph himself. In his suit, Randolph claims that as he was releasing his book, Travolta and his powerful attorney Marty Singer unleashed a P.R. attack against him. They claimed, Randolph says, that he had mental issues and had been institutionalized, all as a calculated attack to paint him as an unreliable source. Randolph claims the plan worked and that retailers were deterred from selling his book. He is suing both Travolta and Singer for unspecified damages. Another alleged Travolta gay lover, Doug Gotterba , is also said to be writing a book. Re: Randolph, a rep for Travolta has issued a statement saying: “The lawsuit filed by Robert Randolph is absurd. The suit is based on a privileged communication, and it will promptly be thrown out by the court.” The statement continues, “To evaluate the credibility of Robert Randolph and his ridiculous lawsuit one need look no further than his own statements on his website stating that he sustained ‘permanent brain damage’ and had to ‘retrain’ his brain.” “Mr. Travolta will aggressively defend himself against this lawsuit and expects to be fully vindicated when this meritless case is dismissed.” Singer also said in a statement: “This is a ridiculous lawsuit. It is based on a letter which is completely privileged under the law. We intend to sue the attorneys for malicious prosecution after the court promptly dismisses this baseless lawsuit.” Maybe so, but this is like the 500th story in which someone claims John Travolta is gay . We don’t care either way if he is, but it’s interesting. [Photo: WENN.com]
