Justin Bieber Headed For Year’s Biggest Debut With Believe

Singer’s second full-length studio album of original material predicted to sell more than 410,000. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on his “Believe” album cover Photo: You’d be a fool to expect Justin Bieber to debut anywhere but the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart next week. But experts are predicting that not only will JB top the tally, but he’s headed for his best first-week ever and the likely crown of the year’s biggest debut. According to Billboard , Believe
is on course to move between 410,000-440,000 units by the end of the reporting week on Sunday. If Bieber reaches those heights, he will move past the year’s biggest debut to date, Madonna’s MDNA , which opened with 359,000. Those kinds of numbers would also give Bieber his biggest first frame so far, beating the debut of 2010’s My World 2.0 , which moved 291,000 units in its first week. Before the expected numbers hit, Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, was already feeling bullish about the prospects. “I think it’s gonna do well because I think people are really giving it a shot,” he said of the album that critics have been praising for its maturity. “At the same time, I think that’s my biggest hope that people judge him on the music. That they go and they listen to the album and they don’t go in with any expectations. There’s a lot of hype around him because of who he is and just shut your eyes, put on your headphones, and put on the music and then just decide if this album is worthy of your time.” Bieber is also hustling hard to make sure he makes the biggest impact possible with Believe , from his drama-filled
prime-time NBC special to an MTV “Bieber Live”
show that harkened back to the old “Total Request Live”
era that helped make Timberlake a superstar. Those appearances, plus his worldwide promo tour and a string of co-signs from some of raps biggest names, could help Bieber land the biggest debut sales week
of the year. Even though he’s burning the oil to get the word out to as many people as possible, Bieber is adamant about not sacrificing his art in the process. “I was very involved in the process [of making this album] — I played instruments, produced, wrote — so I want people to know it’s not all hype,” he said during the “Live”
show. “I want people to know I’ve been working hard on my music. Focus on the music. Don’t think I’m just this product pushed out there. I work hard, and music is really important to me. I see a lot of hate online, which is inevitable, but at the end of the day, I’m just trying to prove them wrong by making good music.” Maybe he’s a bit biased (okay, of course he is), but Braun said that if people follow his advice and give Bieber a fair shake, “I think nine-and-three-fourths out of 10 people will say yes.” We will find out on Wednesday when the new Billboard 200 is revealed. Phillip Phillips Speaks on Surgery

He may have spent months on the American Idol stage, earning millions of votes in order to be crowned the 11th champion in series history, but Phillip Phillips is not anxious for a break. Speaking to reporters for the first time since undergoing kidney surgery , the singer said he’s sick of recovery and excited to perform in front of fans this summer on tour. “I’ve kind of been going crazy just looking at the four walls surrounding me,” Phillips said, adding that he loves to sleep, but he’s ready to be active once again. Phillips has mostly just been “resting and recovering” since the June 7 procedure, but he can pick up a guitar now, which bodes well for his presence at the July 6 tour opener in Detroit. “I’m pretty confident,” he says of joining the nine other Idol finalists as they visit various cities over the next couple months. “I’m just going to have fun with it … It’s going to go well, I believe.”

Rihanna Adds Animated Film To Her Growing Hollywood Resume

Singer will appear alongside Jim Parsons in ‘Happy Smekday!’ based on a novel by Adam Rex. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Rihanna battled some bad aliens in “Battleship,” but now it seems she’ll be tackling a much friendlier extraterrestrial life form in her animated flick, “Happy Smekday!” She’s set to play the lead alongside “Big Bang Theory” Emmy-winner Jim Parsons. The flick, based on Adam Rex’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday,” follows an alien race who come to Earth to hide away from their enemies. When one of the aliens accidentally spills the beans about their hideout to the bad guys, he must go on the run with a teenage girl. The twosome then goes on a road trip through a dystopian America, learning about humanity along the way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is slated for a 2014 release. “Antz” and “Over the Hedge” director Tim Johnson will helm the DreamWorks Animation project, with “Get Smart” screenwriters Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember penning the script. It’s just another film credit for Ri, who has begun her transition from singer to singer/actress. Ever since her appearance in “Battleship,” roles have been steadily coming her way. “I got a few scripts, actually, a lot of incredible roles,” she told MTV News recently. “Some of which I felt were a little too big for me, being that I never did a movie. So I wanted to really get my feet wet, try it, see what it was like and know how I wanted to move from there. I’m really glad ‘Battleship’ turned out to be the first one.” She was recently spotted on the set of “End of the World,” confirming her long-rumored cameo in the Seth Rogen comedy. She shot down chatter that she would play Whitney Houston in a biopic of her life, and her rep recently denied rumors that she would be in the next “Fast and The Furious.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Breaking Dawn’ Trailer: Edward And Bella Go To War

War comes to the Cullen clan in brand-new teaser trailer for ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Renesmee Cullen is not an immortal child — but that’s not stopping the Volturi from coming her way. The impending clash between the Cullens and the Volturi is very much at the center of the newest “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” teaser trailer, which finally dropped on Tuesday, just in time for Edward Cullen’s 111th birthday. But he better blow those candles out quickly, because war is most certainly on the horizon. All is well, if different, when the “Breaking Dawn” teaser begins. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is a vampire now after the events of the most recent “Twilight” film, opening up new experiences and powers for her to discover. “After 18 years of being utterly ordinary, I finally found I could shine,” Bella says in the trailer. “I was born to be a vampire.” “You’re so beautiful,” Robert Pattinson’s Edward tells his newly fanged wife. “We’re the same temperature now.” Even Jacob (Taylor Lautner) is pleasantly surprised upon seeing Bella’s transformation, admitting: “I didn’t expect you to seem so … you. ” But the happy gathering is short-lived as Irina of the Denali Coven approaches the Volturi to report a crime. “The Cullens have done something terrible,” she lies, leading them to believe that Edward and Bella’s newborn daughter is an immortal child — a form of vampire that the Volturi believe is far too powerful to be left alive. “Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative,” they decide. With one little falsehood, Irina has convinced the Volturi to embark upon the wrongful murder of an innocent child. “If enough people knew the truth, perhaps we could get the Volturi to listen,” suggests Carlisle (Peter Facinelli) in his typically level-headed manner. But reason won’t be enough, as he and the others know, leading Bella, Edward, Jacob and the rest to start gathering allies for the coming conflict. No matter the danger that threatens her daughter’s life, however, Bella knows one thing for sure: “I’m never going to let anything hurt you,” she tells Renesmee in an all-too-brief sighting of Mackenzie Foy as the fan-favorite character at the trailer’s conclusion. Director Bill Condon’s “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” lands in theaters on November 16. What do you think of the new “Twilight” teaser trailer? Tell us in the comments below! Katy Perry Calls ‘Wide Awake’ A ‘Dose Of Reality’

Singer debuts music video for her ‘Part of Me 3-D’ track and sits down for an exclusive interview with MTV.com. By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry Photo: Katy Perry — consummate California Gurl and queen of cotton-candy pop — has a dark side, and she’s revealing it in her latest music video, for “Wide Awake.” The chanteuse stopped by MTV News on Monday (June 18) to debut the clip for her “Katy Perry: Part of Me” track (the song was written specifically for her upcoming 3-D concert movie), in addition to sitting down for a wide-ranging 30-minute interview with Sway Calloway on MTV.com. Of course, Perry’s litter of KatyCats had plenty of questions for the singer, and she was more than happy to oblige. Madeline from Michigan asked via video what Perry wanted fans to feel while listening to her latest hit. “Well, this song, I have a lot of different emotions and feelings in all of my songs,” Perry revealed. “This song in particular is a dose of reality. It’s kind of like coming down from a high. You’ve been on cloud nine for so long, and it can’t always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you’re stronger because of it.” The video opens with Perry wrapping production on her earlier Snoop Dogg collaboration, “California Gurls.” We see her retreat to her dressing room, where she removes her candy-colored wig and is suddenly transported into a sort of gothic fairy tale, where she’s left to navigate a dizzying maze alongside her younger self. It’s a bit of a departure for the Teenage Dream songstress, but not a surprising one considering the year she’s had, including her divorce from comedian Russell Brand , whom she was married to for more than a year. Yet, as the video concludes, Perry emerges from the labyrinth unscathed and without the help of Prince Charming (in fact, she punches him out), and it’s clear Katy is going to be all right on her own. “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” the 3-D concert movie, hits theaters July 5. Stay tuned as we roll out more from our exclusive “Wide Awake” interview with Katy Perry! Related Videos MTV First: Katy Perry’s ‘Wide Awake’ Related Artists Katy Perry

Justin Bieber Brings Out Big Sean For ‘Today’ Show Performance

‘I’ve been working hard and I’m confident in the album,’ the singer tells Matt Lauer of Believe, which drops Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Some Fridays in June are simply dubbed “summer Fridays,” but this one in particular was a very special “Justin Bieber summer Friday.” Bieber kicked off his electrifying performance on the “Today” show with “Boyfriend,” the funky lead single off his new album, Believe. From there he popped, locked and sang his way through his catalogue of tracks, some from his June 19 album release and some from his past albums. He brought the energy for his My World track “Baby” (even rapping his way through Ludacris’ part), but he brought out Big Sean to rap alongside him on “As Long as You Love Me.” He had recently teased on Twitter that he had plans to bring out a special guest. “Make some noise for the legendary, one-and-only Justin Bieber,” Sean told the audience after they wrapped up. As for Bieber, well, he only had eyes for his fans. “I want to say thank you guys so much for waiting. I really appreciate it,” he told the crowd. Justin’s fans camp out in the rain for three days! Bieber also performed “All Around the World,” but in between songs, he met fans and chatted with them about their signs. He even picked a fan whose sign he liked best and gave her tickets to his upcoming tour. “I’m really excited to be able to travel the world again and see all my fans. … Everyone, they got to believe,” he said of the trek. Before he took the stage at Rockefeller Plaza, Bieber sat down with Matt Lauer and opened up about making a mature album. “At the end of the day, it is [a lot of pressure]. I’m 18 and I have a lot of insecurities, and at the end of the day, me being in my position, it doesn’t, like, get rid of those insecurities,” he said. “And so coming out with this album, I know I’ve been working hard on it and I know I’ve been doing well, so I’m confident in the album. But, you know, it’s coming out in two days. “But I think it’s about proving people wrong,” he added. “And going out and making good music and going out there and performing better than everyone else, and that’s what you have to do to cross over. Otherwise I’m going to be another teen heartthrob. I want to be remembered.” Recently, his manager, Scooter Braun , said that despite being legal, Bieber will still get a lot of guidance. That doesn’t seem to be something that the singer minds. “I think that I’m at a place. I’m 18. I’m still growing up. I’m still learning about different things: girls, my music,” he said. “So I’m not all the way there, but I’m at a stage where I’m growing and my fans are growing with me and I want to make music that reflects that.” Related Photos Justin Bieber Performs On The ‘Today’ Show Related Artists Justin Bieber
