By John Mitchell Cheesa on “The Voice” Photo: NBC Universal On Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine instantly eliminated James Massone and fan favorite Pip after both gave middling performances. On Tuesday night (April 24), after America’s vote saved former Mouseketeer Tony Lucca and Jamar Rogers, Katrina Parker and Mathai from Team Adam and Cheesa and Juliet Simms from Team Cee Lo were given one last shot to stay in the competition by performing to earn their respective judge’s lone save. Florence and the Machine opened the show in typically ethereal fashion with their new single “Breath of Life” from the “Snow White and the Huntsmen” soundtrack. Surrounded by ballerinas in flowing dresses and backed by Team Cee Lo, Florence Welch’s belting had coach Christina Aguilera nodding along in her chair. Up first in Tuesday’s sing-off was Team Adam’s Mathai, who changed up her quirky indie style radically to show off a different side of her voice by going country with Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova.” Her teammate Katrina Parker followed and delivered yet another full-voiced performance, this time of Pink’s “Perfect. Blake called Katrina “the best singer on [Adam’s] team,” and Christina agreed, complimenting her song choice and saying that of anyone on Adam’s team, Katrina was the singer Xtina was most interested in hearing original material from. Adam had a tough time with the decision. A really, really tough time. As in, he went on and on about how both singers had come into their own late in the competition and how they had surprised him throughout. He was effusive with praise and rambled on like he was trying to delay the inevitable. Finally, he went with the same big voice he saved last time around. Cheesa’s faithful take on “Already Gone” earned a pretty tough technical critique from all the judges, with each commenting that she was under pitch for the entire performance until the final note, which she nailed. They went easier on Simms, who sang Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn,” but Christina still was vocal about wanting more from the singer. Cee Lo was as complimentary as Adam but far more decisive. Just a day after his Twitter jab at 20-year-old Mariah Yeater , the pop superstar held a listening session for his new album, Believe, and revealed that the paternity case is just one of many subject matters he covered on the project. According to the BBC , Bieber said his inspirations included “that girl — Mariah Yeater — who said she was going to have my baby,” adding: “I wrote about that situation.” When asked to choose his favorite song on the June 19 release , Bieber struggled to answer. “Every song has a piece of me; it’s hard to pick,” he said. “I wrote almost all of them or co-wrote them.” Yeater definitely played a big part in Bieber’s 2011. The California woman kept the singer at the top of the headlines when she alleged he was the father of her then-3-month-old child. Bieber’s baby-mama-drama track is just one of 40 songs he’s recorded for the LP, which also reportedly features collaborations with Taylor Swift, Ludacris and Kanye West. In another interview during his promotional blitz, the singer dished details about his duet with Drake, even revealing the title of the star-studded track. “The song’s called ‘Right Here’ and it’s a smash!” he told Capital FM . “People are gonna love it. It just rides so smoothly.” Two acts Beliebers won’t see on the album are One Direction and the Wanted, as the star denied rumors of hitting the studio with the teen heartthrobs. A couple weeks ago on Twitter, Demi Lovato bared her true face . Now, in the pages of British magazine Fabulous , the singer is baring her soul. In one of her more honest interviews to date, the 19-year old goes into detail about her pre-rehab drug use, telling the publication: “I was depressed. I would come offstage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I’d come crashing down and would try to find a way to re-create that feeling, to stay ‘up.'” And you might be shocked to learn who fueled Demi’s habit. “Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs,” she said. “They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass.” Lovato, of course, entered a treatment facility in November 2010 and has talked since about her emotional and physical issues, citing an eating disorder and bi-polarity. But this is the first time she’s really discussed any kind of substance abuse. “Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says ‘no’. That’s why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me.” Instead, thank God, Demi has bounced back and her career is going strong. She performed last month on American Idol .
Where is the money team now??? Via TMZ : Ray J is taking a 5-figure beating in court — because a judge has ordered the singer to pay more than $26,000 … after allegedly blowing off a radio appearance in South Carolina back in 2010. The SC station — called Cox Radio — originally sued Ray J, claiming it paid him $20,000 to MC at a local event for a couple hours … then attend a meet-and-greet with fans for another 30 minutes. But according to the lawsuit, Ray blew the entire thing off — and absconded with the money. A South Carolina judge ruled in favor of Cox radio because Ray never showed up, awarding it $25,100 — but Ray didn’t pay, so Cox took the judgment to Ray’s primary state of residence … California. The Grammy-winning artist is linked to the role of Joni Mitchell in the film adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book “Girls Like Us,” Variety reports. The biography maps the lives of three of the most influential female musicians in America: Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell. In an attempt to capture the life of women in the 1970s, Weller tells these artists’ three unique stories. King is the daughter of a middle-class New York family, living in one of the city’s outer boroughs. Simon is the product of Manhattan’s intellectual elite. Mitchell’s grandparents were Canadian farmers. When MTV News spoke to Swift in March, she told us acting has always “fascinated” her. The role of Mitchell sounds like a part she would want to take on. “I love the idea that you can tell a story in that way,” the singer gushed. “I’ve been reading scripts for about five years. In my free time, that’s all I do is read scripts.” But she isn’t in a rush to choose just any role. “I just want to make decisions really carefully. I think, with movies, it’s really important that you have to love something so much that you cannot think about anything else,” she continued. “If you’re going to become someone else, that’s a huge deal. That’s a huge commitment, and I would want to have the time and the ability and the love for something and the love for a character to where I could really make that commitment to it.” Swift would certainly have some of the background knowledge it takes to play Mitchell, being a musician herself. While Sony Pictures has not made Swift an official offer, other actresses have already auditioned — including Alison Pill (“Midnight in Paris”) — for the role of King. Variety also reported that Katie Jacobs, executive producer of “House,” is directing the script penned by John Sayles, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is set to produce. The biopic is still waiting to be green-lit, but the tentative start of production is later this year.
