Britney Spears Remix Album ‘Shines New Light’ On EDM

B in the Mix: The Remixes Vol. 2, out Tuesday, features Ti&#235sto’s ‘timeless’ take on ‘Piece of Me.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Damian Vaca Britney Spears Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images On Britney Spears ‘ latest release, B in the Mix: The Remixes Vol. 2 , which dropped Tuesday (October 11), a group of dance music’s biggest names have put their stamp on some of the singer’s most-popular tunes from the past few years. Chopped, screwed and broken down, the songs reach new extremes. “It’s cool that big mainstream pop artists let their music be remixed by people in the underground, like me,” Kaskade , who contributed his version of “Gimme More,” told MTV News. “It shines a new light on the EDM scene and how far it can reach. I give Britney props for taking chances and letting dance music be heard by the masses.” Kaskade is one of many EDM artists who appear on the album. He and other DJs who contributed say it’s been a gratifying experience. “She’s been a pop icon for so long. I appreciate a lot of the values she brings to music,” Cobra Starship ‘s Alex Suarez explained. “She sings really well. I appreciate her talents. I definitely respect what she does and why she’s successful. “I’m impressed people stick by her, and when I got the opportunity, I was like, ‘Wow.’ Britney Spears is huge. She’s a huge name worldwide.’ ” Suarez remixed “Till the World Ends” and said he didn’t want to go too far off course for his take on the Femme Fatale single. “I thought the original was really good to begin with,” he explained. “I thought I wanted to make this as special as I can. I tried to stick true to the structure of the song. “Sometimes, you get remixes and they chop it up and mix it around, which is cool. The thing with a Britney Spears remix is people like to sing along.” Kaskade explained that he was “excited at the chance to get to mess with” “Gimme More,” and he wanted to make sure his remix worked with his musical style. “I wanted to make sure that it would be something that would eventually fit into my live set,” he said. “That is the true test for me: Taking a huge pop vocal and making it work with my music can be a little tricky, but I find the challenge fun. I really dig what Brit does, and this song is awesome, so I was really excited.” The album is a blend of old and new remixes: EDM superstar Ti

For The Stans: NY Times Article Reveals Ci-Error Fans Are So Effin’ Clueless It’s Downright “Scary”

Blind baby, blind to the facts. We tried tellin’ y’all Ci-Error fans! Earlier this week the New York Times published an article about Stans and their devotion to their favorite artists — no matter how irrelevant *cough* Ciara *cough* they might be. Check out this excerpt: “To affiliate yourself with a mainstream artist today is just like the unwavering loyalty that sports teams have, like the Giants or the Celtics,” said David Russell, an artist manager at IE: Music who works with acts like Robbie Williams and Ladyhawke. “The same way that you follow a team despite the players that come and go, fans come on board early for pop stars and remind people of the success he or she had — whether it was 20 minutes ago or 20 years ago.” This can make competition among stans particularly ugly, but it can also serve as a lifeboat, keeping a troubled performer’s career afloat. The singer Ciara, a former A-list recording artist who fell into a series of problems with her former label, Jive, that resulted in her most-recent album being shelved, might have been forgotten were it not for die-hards going to bat for her day after day on Web sites.. “Her stans compare her to Beyoncé or Rihanna, despite the fact that her album shipped something like less than 30,000 units in North America,” Mr. Russell said. “They will continue to drum up anticipation for whatever keeps her relevant, even if it’s just a fashion association,” like the singer’s friendship with Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. “Her stans will defend her to the death,” Mr. Russell added. “It’s a little scary.” Poor thang! CiCi, we didn’t realize the numbers were that low!

Michael Jackson Voicemail, Recording at Conrad Murray Trial Show Star’s Declining Health

Testimony and an audio recording heard today at Dr. Conrad Murray’s involuntary manslaughter trial today show Michael Jackson’s physical state in mid-2009. Spoiler alert: It was not good. A forensic expert who analyzed Dr. Murray’s iPhone uncovered a voicemail from Jackson’s manager referring to “an episode” MJ had five days before he died. On it, manager Frank DiLeo tells Murray, “I’m sure you’re aware [Michael] had an episode last night.” And then there was this recording, made by Murray: Michael Jackson Voice Recording (Conrad Murray Trial) The full version of the Michael Jackson recording played during the opening of the trial is chilling and heartbreaking as the delirious star rambles incoherently. Jackson tells Murray, who recorded this conversation on his phone weeks before the singer’s death, that he’s dedicating the “This Is It” concerts to his kids. Jackson claims, “I love them because I didn’t have a childhood.” The 50-year-old becomes extremely emotional while speaking about Prince, Paris and Blanket , saying, “I had no childhood. I feel their pain. I feel their hurt.” Michael explains how he wanted to outdo The Beatles and Elvis with his final concerts, and go down in history as the greatest entertainer who ever lived. It’s unclear why Murray recorded this, but according to prosecutors, it documents the singer under the influence of “unknown agents” on May 10, 2009. It also shows Murray was familiar with Michael in altered states. At one point Murray asks Jackson if he’s okay, and Michael responds, eerily, “I am asleep.” It’s unclear how much this will hurt Murray with a jury, but – much like the testimony of Murray’s many girlfriends yesterday – it certainly can’t help. What’s your take? Dr. Conrad Murray :

Katy Perry ‘Freshening Up’ Unreleased Songs

Producer Tricky Stewart reveals that singer is in studio working on leftovers from their Teenage Dream sessions. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage She may still be releasing tracks off Teenage Dream thanks to her latest single, “The One That Got Away,” but Katy Perry is already hard at work on some other super-special, top-secret musical project. Producer Tricky Stewart, who worked with Perry on three Teenage Dream songs, is back at work with the California Gurl herself, prepping some music with the singer. “Katy and I went into [the studio] just to address some issues with records that we had done in the past that didn’t end up going on Teenage Dream, ” he told MTV News. “So we are in the process of just listening and freshening up things and getting ready for something special she has going on.” What is it that she is readying? Well, Stewart doesn’t exactly know, or maybe he just doesn’t want to say. “I don’t know what it is, but I know she has something going on because she wants to be in the studio,” he said. “So that’s good. … I can tell you that Katy likes the studio again; that’s always a good thing.” While he couldn’t shed much light on the project itself, he did reveal the name of the song. “This song is really special. It’s called ‘Dressing Up,’ so it’s going to be a big record, I think,” he said. “It definitely fits. It’s right there in what her sensibilities are as a musician and a songwriter. She doesn’t change much. She has a very keen musical taste. It’ll be really good.” The music they are working on is using some leftovers from their Teenage Dream sessions. And they hope to finally put that magic out into the world. “We always knew that the records we created were special [and] at the time it was more contractual obligation [that they didn’t make the record],” he explained, noting all the success the singer has experienced with the record, which includes five #1 songs . “I can only have so many songs produced by me on the record. She didn’t need to have extra songs at the same time.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Katy Perry

The two married in California over the weekend, with Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler, Paul Rudd in attendance. By Jocelyn Vena Lauren Miller and Seth Rogen (file) Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images A big mazel tov to Seth Rogen! While fans were hitting up the movie theaters this weekend to see his film “50/50,” Rogen was busy marrying his longtime lady love, Lauren Miller. People.com reports that a number of Rogen’s pals and former co-stars, including Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler and Paul Rudd, attended the California ceremony on Saturday. The pair married in Sonoma in a location overlooking a nearby vineyard. A female rabbi married the pair with other friends like “Knocked Up” director Judd Apatow, his actress wife Leslie Mann and “The Office” star Craig Robinson in attendance. After the pair tied the knot they reportedly drove off in a convertible to another location for the A-list reception. A source tells Usmagazine.com that “the wedding was more laughs than anything else. Every other line was a joke and the crowd couldn’t contain their laughter. It was nonstop fun!” The festivities reportedly took place over three days. Rogen’s cancer dramedy, “50/50,” co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, opened on Friday and came in at a solid #4, right behind “Dolphin Tale” (#1), “Moneyball” (#2) and “The Lion King” (#3). Rogen and his writer bride met back in 2004 when he was a writer on “Da Ali G Show.” When he was on “Conan” last November he opened up about popping the question to Miller a couple months before, in September. “Literally, I felt like someone had given me like a truckload of heroin to hold onto, I felt like the feds were going to kick in my door at any second,” he said of buying the engagement ring. “I couldn’t have a conversation with my girlfriend. All I could think of was this ring. Like, ‘Don’t say ‘Lord of the Rings’! Don’t mention anything about a ring!” He joked that the proposal wasn’t perfect: He did it while she was dressing. “I didn’t picture it like this, and I know she didn’t picture it like this,” he recalled. “No little girl is like ‘It’ll happen in a closet with my [chest] out.’ ” Leave your well-wishes for the couple in the comments below!
