Gaga, in full drag as Calderone , and Spears had a bit of a VMA romance, sharing kind words — and even swapping spit. “It was interesting, her character,” Spears later told MTV News about the encounter, even dishing how the kiss between the two took place. “We got onstage and we felt it out.” Spears, of course, has already kissed a famous pop star on the VMA stage, when she and Madonna locked lips back in 2003. And it’s that kind of free spirit that Calderone noted in his speech about the singer. “She taught us all how to be fearless, and the industry wouldn’t be the same without her,” Calderone said when he not only kicked off the tribute to the star, but also later presented her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. After a troupe of dancers, who performed dance routines to everything from ” … Baby One More Time” and “Crazy” to “Toxic” and “Do Somethin’,” left the stage, Calderone and Spears came face to face, and lips to lips. Although Spears seemed fine with the initial kiss, when he tried to make a few more advances, Spears rebuffed him with a big smile on her face. He took it like a gentleman, adding, “I don’t want Gaga to get pissed.” So was Gaga completely Calderone the whole time? “She’s in full character,” Spears later added. “Yes, definitely.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Lady Gaga’s VMA Performance Inspired By ‘Archetypes Of Psychology’

Gaga tells MTV News about the ideas behind Sunday’s big show opener. By Christina Garibaldi Lady Gaga Photo: MTV Lady Gaga has graced many an awards show stage in the past two years, and this Sunday will mark her second performance at the MTV Video Music Awards . But there’s one significant difference this year: Gaga’s opening the show . Hoping, as always, to keep us guessing, she’s has been tight-lipped so far about her highly anticipated appearance, but she did tell MTV News about the rather high-minded inspiration behind it. “Right now, I’m obsessed with the archetypes of our psychology and all the different people we can become or have become in the past,” Gaga said. “Our potential for the future and how do we in our minds sort of compartmentalize our different personalities. So that’s something that I’m fascinated with right now. It’s almost as if I’m reviewing my life as a play.” So how does all that come into play when coming up with a memorable VMA performance? “My approach to music and performance is not just about what happens on the stage,” Gaga said. “My whole life is a performance, and it’s about pushing the boundaries of pop culture and for myself, deciding where the stage begins and ends, not allowing anyone else telling me when or how I can perform. I can perform when I choose.” Balloons? Blood? Jo Calderone? See what Gaga fans are hoping her VMA performance will include. Gaga is confident that she will deliver what her Little Monsters want on Sunday night, since the creative idea for her set came to her just as fast as the idea behind her bloody 2009 VMA “Paparazzi” performance . “It came as quickly as the last one did,” Gaga said. “Any good performance flows out easily. Rihanna Raises A Glass To Fans In ‘Cheers’ Video

On Friday (August 26), the pop force debuted the video for her celebratory tune “Cheers (Drink to That),” a behind-the-scenes concert montage with brief cameo appearances by Avril Lavigne , Jay-Z and Kanye West . Chanting fans kick off the almost-five minute clip, which cuts between candid footage of the songstress backstage before and after her shows, and enjoying the festivities during her recent trip to Barbados. Rocking some denim blue shorts, a colorful cropped top and sunglasses, Rihanna also gives fans a glimpse of her performance of the tune during her Loud tour set. “Cheers (Drink to That)” samples Avril Lavigne’s yodel from her 2002 hit “I’m With You,” so it’s only appropriate that the visual includes sporadic blink-of-the-eye appearances from the pop rocker horsing around by the pool. “It was really exciting because ‘I’m With You’ is one of my favorite songs that I’ve done, I always love performing it,” Lavigne said last year of being sampled on “Cheers.” “Cheers to the freaking weekend/ I drink to that, yeah yeah/ Oh, let the Jameson sink in/ I drink to that, yeah yeah/ Don’t let the bastards get you down/ Turn it around with another round/ There’s a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that,” Rihanna sings, almost casually, as she’s seen toasting fans and friends onstage and in bars. Hours after the debut, Rih took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought about the clip, writing, “CHEERS… U like??? #drinktothat #RihannaNavy I love yall forever!!!!! Keep making me proud!” The Rihanna Navy has been pushing for the singer to release “Cheers (Drink to That)” since the LP’s release, and there’s no denying that the Barbados beauty also has love for the song. “I love that song [‘Cheers’]. That is one of my favorite songs on the album. Welcome to THG Asks, a fun feature in which two of our celebrity gossip experts debate topical issues in the entertainment world and you decide who wrote the winning argument! Today, THG Asks : Will Kim Kardashian’s marriage last? YES by Free Britney Kim Kardashian’s wedding was scripted nonsense. We know this. That is merely who Kim Kardashian is, though: A bland, better-than-average looking chick makes a living from her celeb status despite being expressionless as drywall and devoid of talent. Nowhere in that job description does she have to be incapable of love. I’ll be the first to ridicule Kim’s shameless attempt to kash in on any thing. When I read that Kris Humphries’ family was appalled at the spectacle of the wedding, I wasn’t the least but surprised. But that’s precisely why it WILL last. No one would marry Kim Kardashian for her fame (and become a joke in the process). He’s got his own money (and she’s got a prenup). He’s in it for the only reason anybody could possibly put up with this 24/7/365 charde: Kim’s heart. Congrats. Bring on the sex tape. A moment Kim and Kris will never forget … thanks to E! NO CHANCE by Hilton Hater There’s no way Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries will last. Here’s why: The power forward is a free agent. Coming off a career season, it’s unlikely New Jersey (his previous employer) will match his contract demands. Neither will any other team in a major market. The Los Angeles Lakers have plenty of size; the Knicks are keeping their salary cap options open for Chris Paul or Dwight Howard; Miami is enough of a circus without employing Humphries in the same city that is now also home to Reggie Bush ; Blake Griffin plays the same position for the Clippers. I foresee Humphries going someplace like Houston, or maybe Utah. And, come on, you can’t honestly say Kim Kardashian will stay with a man who lives outside an entertainment news hot spot. It’s unlikely Star Magazine could even find Salt Lake City on a map. Indeed, at some point, the NBA lockout will end and, with it, so will this farce of a marriage. And we all know what that means: a divorce special on E! THG Asks you … will it last?

Christina Aguilera Irate Over Child Abuse Claim, Lawyer Releases Statement

Christina Aguilera is positively furious, and for very good reason. Earlier in the week, the website MediaTakeOut published a picture of the singer’s son and wrote the headline: “CHILD ABUSE???? CHRISTINA AGUILERA’S SON IS PHOTO’D WITH A BLACK EYE!!!” Aguilera, who remained above the fray when called out by Kelly Osbourne , didn’t sit idly by in the face of such an accusation and called upon her lawyer to issue a statement. Wrote Eric Greenspan to the site in question: “Christina is a wonderful mother and was not present in the park when Max fell and hurt himself… To imply that she had something to do with this incident, without any investigation on your part whatsoever, is reckless and unconscionable.” The attorney then threatened a lawsuit and concluded: “HAVE YOU NO SHAME!!!!” MediaTakeOut has since changed the headline.
