Rodriguez/ WireImage Just because she’s off “American Idol” doesn’t mean she’s not still helping to make singers’ dreams come true. Talk show maven Ellen DeGeneres announced on Thursday that British teen Tom Andrews is the newest artist signed to her eleveneleven record label. Andrews joins Internet sensation Greyson Chance on DeGeneres’ recently launched label. It was announced that the 16-year-old will release his album later this year. “We see people come on the scene but now we get to watch you from the very beginning, all the way through your career. So it’s fun for all of us to watch this happen to you. You are 16 years old, and I just called you out of the blue at home and I said, ‘Hi, I’m Ellen…’ ” DeGeneres said on the episode that aired on Thursday. “My mum saw an advert [and] it was just for a little singing contest and I did, I went down there. My legs were shaking. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to do it,” Andrews said. Eventually he did sing in front of a crowd of nearly 900 at the contest, performing the Beatles classic “Let It Be” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” On DeGeneres’ show he sang James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” Andrews once played with British band the Noisettes; he was handpicked by the band to play with them at Bristol’s Anson Rooms in the U.K. “Most of my music has a soulful, gospel type influence,” the singer/songwriter and Devon native told the BBC in 2009 when interviewed about his music. He described himself as a soul singer “with an edge.”

Lawsuit allegedly filed by pop star’s mother claims AEG Live neglected his medical care, according to an online report. By Kara Warner Michael Jackson Photo: Getty Images The litigation that has surrounded the tragedy of Michael Jackson’s untimely death continues. Katherine Jackson, on behalf of and along with Michael Jackson’s children, has filed suit against AEG Live, the promoter for the late superstar’s 50-date concert residency . Jackson’s mother charges the company breached its contractual agreement to provide medical care for her son and argues they were negligent in hiring controversial doctor Conrad Murray . According to TMZ , Katherine’s filing claims AEG’s contract with Michael “created a legal duty for AEG to act reasonably toward the physical well-being of Michael Jackson.” The website also points out that the lawsuit lists Katherine Jackson as a Guardian ad Litem, or legal representative, for Michael’s three children, which Katherine is not. Jackson’s mother is in fact only the trio’s guardian. The gossip site suggests that the mistake, along with the fact that Katherine’s reps know nothing about the lawsuit, suggests she is not actively involved in this case. In other MJ-related lawsuit news, Conrad Murray’s attorneys asked a federal judge on Wednesday (September 15) to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the singer’s father, Joe Jackson, because he is not a beneficiary of the late singer’s estate. The Associated Press reported that Murray’s lawyers equated Joe’s lawsuit to a “press-release that is intended to prejudice and inflame the jury pool and the public.” The motion will reportedly be considered by a federal judge during a hearing scheduled for Oct. 18. Joe Jackson sued Murray on June 25, the one-year anniversary of his son’s death in 2009 at age 50. His lawsuit claimed the doctor withheld vital information about Jackson’s medical history — including a list of all the drugs he had administered to his patient — from paramedics who responded to a 911 call, as well as to doctors at UCLA Medical Center who attempted to revive the singer. At the autopsy for Jackson, the complaint also alleges that Murray “said nothing” about having administered the surgical anesthetic propofol, which the coroner concluded caused Jackson’s death. The lawsuit seeks more than $75,000 in damages. Gaga first rocked the white carpet in a dramatic gown and headdress by the late Alexander McQueen . She followed that ensemble with another McQueen number, one she admitted was too heavy to walk in. Finally, Gaga closed out the evening with an even bigger statement than her win for Video of the Year : a meat dress . While the outfit has already received a negative reaction from PETA , there are plenty of Gaga meat-outfit enthusiasts. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway and Trey Songz Photo: MTV News Trey Songz’s fanbase has steadily increased with each project, and as the singer released his fourth album on Tuesday (September 14), he reflected on the recent changes in his career. The Virgina native tells MTV News he has taken greater control of the musical reins with his new LP, Passion, Pain & Pleasure, than he did last year’s Ready. “As far as what I can attribute my success to, you know, taking charge of my career. Taking full control — from the music I make to the pictures I take.” Despite public friction with R. Kelly, Trey Songz also readily credited the Chicago R&B star with influencing his material. “My biggest influence, musically, without a doubt is R. Kelly,” he admitted. “I’ll stand on top of a mountain and say that, no matter what the differences may have been or what I may have said, or what he may have said. He will always be my biggest influence.” While there aren’t any R. Kelly collaborations on Passion, Trey Songz does partner again with Drake, with whom he has enjoyed a run of breakout tracks, from “Successful” to “I Invented Sex,” on “Unusual.” Earlier this year, Songz took full advantage of the “MTV Unplugged” platform by delivering a stirring show backed by a live band. Now, he’s riding the wave of his current single, “Bottoms Up,” featuring Nicki Minaj , which is resting at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. ” ‘Bottoms Up,’ I feel, is a very creative video,” he told MTV News last month about working with Minaj and director Anthony Mandler. “[It’s] different from me or what’s expected from me and anything I’ve shot for that matter. Anthony used a lot of different shooting techniques.
