‘Takers’ Stars Discuss Importance Of Film’s Fashion

Chris Brown says co-star Hayden Christensen ‘had swag’ in the film. By Shaheem Reid Chris Brown Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images When talking to the cast of the upcoming film “Takers” (arriving in theaters Friday), it was clear that each actor had to not only be sharp with his lines, but with his clothing as well. The film stars Idris Elba, T.I., Chris Brown, Paul Walker, Michael Ealy and Hayden Christensen as a crew of bank robbers out to steal approximately $30 million from an armored car. And when they’re not busy plotting their heist, the crew enjoy the finer things in life, from women to wardrobe. “For my end, my fashion in particular, I had as much input as one could have,” Tip said. “There were some things that were suggested that weren’t me. There were other things that faced adverse opinion at first, but after dialogue and compromise, I saw that it came out and worked best for the character’s presentation for the screen.” “How a man dresses is how you start to create this character,” Idris Elba, who plays the team’s leader, Gordon, affirmed. “I had a big influence on how Gordon looked. My team was in suits, that was a big component.” So with everyone on-set dressed to the nines, who had the flyest outfits? Chris Brown said it was a toss-up. “Hayden dressed dope,” the singer, sitting next to Michael Ealy, who plays his brother in the film, complimented. “You know, the hat, the suspenders. He had swag. That’s kind of my feel [in real life]. “And Idris, he had that white coat on,” Brown continued, referring to a scene where the gang gathers at their hangout spot, a jazz club owned by Ealy’s character. “He had that tuxedo on. Like, ‘Yeah, I’m the leader.’ ” “I saw Idris got to wear the white coat. I was digging the white coat,” Tip agreed. “I saw Hayden got to wear the hat. So everybody had a different element of fashion they brought to the table.” Ealy says it was no contest. “I felt I’m the best dressed through the entire piece,” he joked. “I’ll take best dressed.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Takers.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Fantasia Says ‘Heavy’ Incidents Led To Her Overdose

‘I wanted to sleep … and I said to myself, ‘If I don’t wake up, that might be good,’ ‘ singer says of suicide attempt. By Jocelyn Vena Fantasia Barrino Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images While fans eagerly anticipate the premiere of Fantasia’s “Behind the Music” episode on Tuesday night (August 24), where the singer will open up about her suicide attempt earlier this summer, she was a guest on the Gayle King radio show . Fantasia not only discussed her new album with King, she described the incidents that led up to her overdose. “Well, [there] was so much going on that day, and I think you know that since I’ve been in the industry, there’s always something going on in my life. And I take a licking and I keep on ticking,” she told King. “I’ve never really had the chance to release. … I wasn’t prepared. I wasn’t prepared for Hollywood … I have feelings, I do. I’m human. But I cover them up well and I keep them moving like nothing is bothering me.” “It was so heavy that day. … I told Brian [my manager], ‘I feel like I’m about to have a nervous breakdown,’ ” she recalled about the hours leading up to the overdose. “And again, because Brian knows I’m really strong, he says, ‘You got it. We can get through this.’ I just became overloaded that day.” And with rumors of a relationship with a reportedly married man, Antwaun Cook , plaguing her, she retreated, saying that she couldn’t even muster up the strength to go on for her daughter, Zion. “I couldn’t do it for Zion and it just hurt me so bad and I was out of it, Gayle, and I never go to that point. And so I stayed in my room for three days,” she said. “In the beginning [when I took the pills], I wanted to sleep … and I said to myself, ‘If I don’t wake up, that might be good.’ ” She admits that while the Cook rumors were one of the many factors that led to her breakdown, the relationship wasn’t the only factor. “When I met him, he was separated and in another home. And I don’t think I would have even been attracted to him if he was with his wife,” she said. “I definitely don’t want something that belongs to someone else. I’ve been in a lot of bad relationships. What hit me was everything was so big. It was everywhere and I was afraid that my daughter would hear it. I felt like everybody was taking what they were hearing and running with it, and I just felt like, man, everyone’s against me.” Related Videos Reactions To Fantasia’s Overdose Related Photos Fantasia’s Career In Photos Related Artists Fantasia

Nick Cannon Dodges Latest Round Of Mariah Carey Pregnancy Rumors

‘You will hear it directly from her,’ Cannon says of the chatter swirling around his wife. By Jocelyn Vena Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images For months, people have been wondering if Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have a baby on the way. In May, Carey dropped out of Tyler Perry’s forthcoming movie “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf”; that sparked chatter about her being pregnant, and she has maintained a relatively low profile since then. But over the weekend, Carey was seen in a body-obscuring black princess gown at the Barretos International Rodeo in Barretos, Brazil. The photos re-ignited the rumors that the singer is indeed expecting a bundle of joy. Cannon discussed the speculation during his radio show on New York’s 92.3 FM on Monday (August 23), and he once again took the high road. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it time and time again — when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her,” People.com reports he said. He continued: “We all know it’s extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff.” Cannon did say that if the couple, who married in 2008 , did ever have an announcement of that kind to make to the world they would “strategically plan it out properly” to avoid hype. “That’s something you want to keep near and dear and as close to you as you possibly can, until you’re 100 percent sure, in any situation,” he continued. “There’s a certain time limit you’re supposed to wait before you can actually officially say that you are and all that stuff. You don’t want to mislead anybody.” What do you think of how Nick and Mariah are handling the pregnancy rumors? Tell us in the comments. Related Artists Nick Cannon Mariah Carey

George Michael Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges

Troubled singer receives six-month suspension of driver’s license following July car crash. By Gil Kaufman George Michael appears at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in London on Tuesday Photo: Danny Martindale/ WireImage George Michael pleaded guilty on Tuesday (August 24) to driving under the influence of drugs and possession of pot in a London courtroom, earning the former Wham! singer a six-month suspension of his driving privileges and a threat of prison time if he is caught behind the wheel while under the influence again. According to , the troubled former pop star (born Georgios Panayiotou), 47, admitted that he was driving while on drugs when his car crashed into a photo shop on July 4 as he was returning from a gay pride event. Police said they found Michael “spaced out” and sweating profusely with his pupils dilated after his car smashed into a Snappy Snaps shop in North London near his home in the early morning hours. The car’s engine was still running when officers arrived, but Michael had to be woken up. Later tests showed that he had taken a “therapeutic quantity” of the antidepressant gamma-hydroxybutyrate, a.k.a. “the date rape” drug GBH, which can leave people powerless and groggy. During his 15-minute court appearance, Michael entered a plea and Judge Robin McPhee banned the singer from driving for six months, saying he could be sent to prison if he is busted again. “It is a serious matter,” McPhee said. “Your driving was extremely poor and there was an accident.” The judge noted that Michael already had one conviction on his record for a similar incident three years ago in which he was found slumped over the wheel of his car while blocking an intersection while driving under the influence. Katy Perry Says ‘Firework’ Is Teenage Dream’s ‘Anthem’

‘This could be one of those things where it’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud,’ ‘ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry is a bit of a human firework — sparkly, colorful and spontaneous — so it’s fitting that she would include a song called “Firework” on her Teenage Dream album , which has already spawned hits like the title track and “California Gurls.” “Firework,” like Perry, is spunky and funky with unexpected moments, like when the orchestra kicks in. The track is sure to resonate with Perry fans who love when the singer gets real about boys and love and their electrifying power. The song also means a lot to Perry. “I wanted to go in with Stargate, and I finished off with a couple of songs, one song called ‘Firework,’ which is probably my favorite song off the record,” she told MTV News. “Like something I’m most proud of.” As much as she loves the song, fans and critics who have heard the track also think it’s pretty powerful. “People are coming back and almost adopting it as their own anthem, and it’s hard, I think, to write an anthem that’s not cheesy,” she explained. “And I hope that this could be something in that category. I hope this could be one of those things where it’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud and feel strong.’ “But I also don’t want to be cheesy,” she reiterated. “It’s a fine line, and I think ‘Firework’ is a real, I guess, it would be like the opus or my one song — if I had to pick a song to play — ’cause it has a great beat. But it also has a fantastic message.” Have you heard “Firework” yet? Do you think it’s Katy’s anthem? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Katy Perry

Wyclef Jean Vows To Fight Exclusion From Haitian Presidential Election

‘I cannot in good conscience give up my quest to lead Haiti to the greatness I know we are capable of,’ he said in a statement. By Gil Kaufman Wyclef Jean Photo: Joe Raedle/ Getty Images Wyclef Jean was dealt a harsh setback on Friday when his name was left off a list of potential candidates in the upcoming presidential election in Haiti. But the rapper and humanitarian vowed over the weekend to fight the ruling that declared him ineligible to run in the November 28 election. “After careful consideration and much soul-searching, I have made the decision to contest Haiti’s board of election’s pronouncement stating that I am ineligible to run for the presidency of the country,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon. “I will be seeking a solution through legal channels, and I urge my countrymen to be patient through this process. ” According to The Associated Press, Clef was slated to go to Haitian court on Monday (August 23) with his lawyers to appeal the decision before the national election dispute office. Jean told the AP on Sunday that he has a document that shows “everything is correct” with his presidential bid and that he and his aides suspect that his exclusion “has everything to do with Haitian politics” and not his legal eligibility for the position. Though the election board did not specify why it rejected the former Fugees leader’s bid, it is presumed it was because he did not meet the country’s residency requirements, which state that a candidate must live in the country for five years. Wyclef, who left Haiti with his family to live in New York at the age of 9, said on CNN that he was running because he felt he had been “drafted by the population” in the wake of the country’s devastating January earthquake. “After January 12 … being out here with my wife and picking up dead bodies from the ground, I felt that because of the youth of Haiti and the population, that this is not even Wyclef saying that ‘I want to be the president of Haiti.’ I feel like I’m being drafted by the population right now to give them a different face, a different voice,” the singer explained. “In the 36 hours since the board’s decision, I have been in constant conversation with my family, friends and advisers, and reading the comments of good people and supporters throughout the Haitian diaspora,” he said in his weekend statement. “I’ve also been closely monitoring the situation on the ground, which I am happy to report has remained peaceful and thoughtful. I, along with my supporters, am deeply disappointed that I have been denied the chance to present my candidacy to Haiti’s voters. I want to continue in my efforts to always keep Haiti top of mind for the world — I don’t want to give anyone the chance to forget the earthquake victims, or my impoverished homeland, rich only in human potential and kindness. “These factors, and more, inspire me now. I am heartened by the world’s focus on Haiti and its needs, as well as the great spirit of the Haitian people — my people, and I cannot in good conscience give up my quest to lead Haiti to the greatness I know in my heart we are capable of reaching. I cannot surrender now, simply because an obstacle has been set before me; now is the time I must stand up and show Haiti — and the world — that my vision of a nation renewed and redeveloped is a vision for which I am willing to fight.” The “If I Was President” singer, whose candidacy was questioned by his former Fugees bandmate Pras , was one of 34 people vying to replace Haitian president Ren

Faith Evans Arrested On Suspicion Of Drunken Driving

The singer was reportedly pulled over Saturday night in Los Angeles. By Mawuse Ziegbe Faith Evans Photo: Tiffany Rose/ WireImage Faith Evans was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving, according to the Los Angeles Times. Evans was taken into police custody at 10:40 p.m. at a checkpoint near Marina del Rey, Los Angeles Police Department’s Officer Cleon Joseph told the Times. The Associated Press reports Evans’ car was impounded and she was released on bail the following morning. The incident is not the singer’s first brush with the law. In 2004, Evans and her husband, Todd Russaw, were arrested in Atlanta on drug possession charges. Evans evaded jail time by entering a pretrial drug-abuse intervention program. She referenced the drama in her 2005 single “Again.” “In ATL, I caught a case/ And the media tried to say, I had a habit/ I couldn’t manage, and I’m throwing my life away,” Evans belts on the midtempo track. Evans first hit the scene as a signee to Diddy’s Bad Boy label and went on to pump out R&B hits such as “Love Like This” and “You Gets No Love.” Evans also married fellow Bad Boy artist Notorious B.I.G. and won a 1997 Grammy, along with Diddy and 112, for the Biggie-tribute song “I’ll Be Missing You,” in the wake of the iconic MC’s death. After parting ways with her longtime label and releasing the 2005 album The First Lady on Capitol Records, the singer took a break from the fame game to focus on her family. At the 2009 premiere of “Notorious,” the biopic about her late husband’s rise to hip-hop prominence, Evans told MTV News that while she didn’t have a record contract, she was looking to return to music. “I’ve been taking a lot of meetings, and I’ve been enjoying my freedom, not being tied down to anything other than my family. I’m ready to record again,” Evans said. “I’ve been hesitant to get into any type of record-deal situation. The offers have been coming in. Through the process of elimination, I’ll pick the one that’s right for me.” Related Artists Faith Evans
