Allison Iraheta in Latina Magazine: Life is Good!

Allison Iraheta has been off American Idol for almost a full year now, but the singer tells the latest issue of Latina magazine that life is better than ever. “I don’t have to step onto a stage and get judge every week. Now I get to do my own songs and talk to my fans,” she said. “There are all these girls writing my on Twitter… saying [they] love songs like ‘Scars’ because they can totally relate to what I’m singing about. Things are really good right now.” Iraheta will tour this summer with Adam Lambert, who has nothing but amazing things to say about his friend: “She’s so freaking talented… The first time I heard her album, I was in a car with the windows down and I was just dancing and rocking out to it. It’s going to take some time, but she’ll get there.” And where is that place? Allison hopes it’s a level of accomplishment where she’s recognized for being herself, not for having starred on the most popular show on TV. “I don’t want people to see me and immediately think, ‘Oh, that’s the girl with the red hair who was on American Idol . I want them to say, ‘That’s Allison Iraheta. She’s a great artist who makes real music and has something to say – and she rocks.”

American Idol Performance of the Season: Crystal Bowersox, "People Get Ready"

It started a capella – and it ended with as much praise as an American Idol contestant has received in years. Forget the judges for a moment. Check out what a group of impartial observers had to say about Crystal Bowersox’s rendition of “People Get Ready” last night , which brought the singer to such tears that she could scarcely finish. MTV.com : “It was the best performance of the season.” Salon.com : “Forget about goose bumps! I had been filled with the Holy Spirit and was jumping up and down in my humble living room screaming, ‘Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, Alleluia, Alleluia!’ I became a born-again believer that “American Idol” could actually be redeemed, saved from its lost and depraved ways by its savior, Crystal Bowersox .” GQ.com : “As frontrunner skeptics, it took Bowersox’s near collapse into heavy sobbing to finally convince us that her season-long steely calm was not professionalism, but rather a coping device. Despite the crumbling reputation, this is still a big deal, this American Idol show. Crystal seems to know that now.” DID YOU MISS THE PERFORMANCE? OR CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH IT AGAIN? SEE BELOW. Asher Roth Talks Working With ‘Genius’ Pharrell On Next Album

Plus: Game asks for DJ Skee’s assitance on The Red Room, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Asher Roth Photo: SRC/Universal Celebrity Favorites There’s a method to Asher Roth’s madness. He rapped over beats from the likes of the RZA, Q-Tip and J. Dilla on his mixtape Seared Foie Gras With Quince and Cranberry because you might hear him flow over original tracks by those super producers on his next album. One dude who is definitely working on Roth’s upcoming LP is Pharrell Williams — and Skateboard P might even serve as executive producer on the project. “We linked up in Miami,” Roth said of the Williams sessions. “Very good chemistry as far as creating music. We was down there while it was all snowy in New York. We had a blast. I think we have some really beautiful music for warm weather. “He really is a genius,” Roth gushed. “Working with him, it’s really fast. We wound up doing 12 records in 12 days, which is really good numbers. It’s quick. He gets an idea and he harnesses that idea really quick. It’s cool when someone like me gets to step into the studio with him. I feel it’s probably different vibes. … I feel like it’s different vibes. Even though he works with everyone from Britney to the Clipse, he can do that because he stays in his lane. He stays true to himself. He’s got a very real sound he’s harnessed with the Neptunes stuff; he’s got a real sound he’s harnessed with N.E.R.D. We wrote 12 different records. We didn’t try to write one record 12 times — we have stuff all over the map, from live drums that are going to incorporate itself well into a live show … I’m excited for you guys to hear that stuff.” The Streets Is Talking: News and Notes From the Underground Game’s new mixtape The Red Room is set to drop very soon, but there has been a slight change in the lineup — instead of making the mixtape a Gangsta Grillz and putting it out with DJ Drama, Game said he secured the services of DJ Skee. “I immediately called Skee, but he was in Toronto,” Game said about reaching out to Skee once he and Drama amicably agreed to part ways on the project. “He got back, came in and then the tape took a turn left, man. But it’s all good, man, ’cause me and Skee got history. Skee’s at home right now just going in working on it to get it out to the people ASAP. So there ain’t no love lost to Drama, I talk to him. He asked me if there wasn’t gonna be anymore G-Unit disses on the tape and I was like, ‘Not really,’ but I reserve the right to do whatever I want. So it’s probably best that I use Skee.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

Ke$ha Calls ‘Saturday Night Live’ Performance ‘Nerve-Racking’

‘The first time I stood on [the stage], I kinda felt like I was going to throw up in my mouth a little bit,’ she says. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News Ke$ha plans to storm the “Saturday Night Live” stage this weekend, and while it’s an exciting time for her, the singer has copped to feeling jittery about the high-profile performance. “It’s really nerve-racking,” she told MTV News on Thursday during a rehearsal break. “The first time I stood on [the stage], I kinda felt like I was going to throw up in my mouth a little bit, but then I didn’t, so that was awesome.” Ke$ha will sing her chart-topping “Tik Tok” and her latest single, “Your Love Is My Drug,” on “SNL.” “Just practicing a few times [now], I’m feeling a little more comfortable,” she said of the live performance. “It’s definitely an honor.” Asked whether she knew what she might wear, Ke$ha played coy. “I do know! All I have to say is that it might be really awesome,” she teased. “Actually, I’m pretty sure it is.” Ryan Phillippe, who stars in the “SNL” sketch-turned-film “MacGruber,” will handle the hosting duties the night Ke$ha performs. The singer has her fingers crossed for the chance to star with the actor in a skit. “We bonded. You can say that,” she laughed. “I mean, that would be ideal. I hope that happens.” She even had a sketch in mind. “Well, they’re top-secret, so I can’t tell you,” she said. “But one idea was someone recently told me I smell like shrimp in a diaper, so I thought I could do a perfume skit about me with my eau de perfume being a shrimp in a diaper. It’s very sensual.” Are you happy with Ke$ha’s “SNL” song choices? Let us know in the comments! Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Won’t Make A Plea Deal

‘Plea bargains are for guilty people,’ Murray’s attorney, Ed Chernoff, says. By Mark Maurer Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The lawyer for Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray announced Friday (April 16) that there will be no plea bargain in his client’s involuntary-manslaughter case, according to The Associated Press. No matter what Deputy District Attorney David Walgren presents, attorney Ed Chernoff contends that “plea bargains are for guilty people.” Chernoff also expressed concerns about the jury remaining impartial in a case regarding a revered entertainer. Murray, a 57-year-old cardiologist, previously pleaded not guilty to the involuntary-manslaughter charges brought up against him in Jackson’s death. Murray gave the singer anesthetic propofol and other drugs, as indicated by the autopsy report. Murray’s bail was set at $75,000 bail, nearly triple the amount set for comparable crimes. Walgren is attempting to prove the doctor demonstrated gross negligence when he gave the singer propofol to help him sleep. More specific evidence might come to light at the June 14 preliminary hearing. Murray continues to declare his innocence, and Chernoff reasons that nothing that he gave Jackson “should have” resulted in death. “You may find after you are done watching the trial that it is not nearly as cut-and-dried as has been presented,” Chernoff told the AP. “One thing that simply will never be the truth is that Dr. Murray pumped a bunch of drugs into Michael Jackson and walked out of that room. He’s not that kind of guy.” Murray admitted to police that he administered those drugs to help Jackson sleep and subsequently left his bedside. Cell phone records reveal that Murray made at least three personal calls around that time. A Jackson employee who said he was present in the hospital room told police that Murray interrupted CPR to collect drug vials. Earlier this month, Los Angeles Judge Michael Pastor delayed the California State Attorney General’s Office’s motion to revoke Murray’s medical license until the June hearing. Members of Jackson’s family , including father Joe, mother Kathleen, sister Janet and brothers Randy and Jermaine, were in attendance. Events and new developments surrounding the singer’s sudden death have persisted for the past 10 months. Jackson died June 25 at the age of 50 in his rented Bel Air mansion mere days prior to a comeback tour in London. He had hired Murray to keep tabs on his health during the rehearsals.
