Whitney Purvis, 16 & Pregnant Star, Arrested For Stealing Home Pregnancy Test at Walmart

Whitney Purvis of 16 & pregnant was arrested in Georgia yesterday for bogarting a home pregnancy test at her local Walmart … and using it in the store. According to police, the 20-year-old “Never Nervous” Purvis stashed a First Response pregnancy test inside her hooded jacket and sneaked off to the john. Whitney then “took it to the restroom with her and used one.” Purvis allegedly tried to sneak out of the store through a side door but was busted by store security, who put her under citizens arrest and called police. Yes, she used a pregnancy test AT Walmart – retail price $15.98, like $4.00 less than CVS! – and got popped by Walmart rent-a-cops. All in a day’s work. Purvis was hauled to a nearby station where she was booked for misdemeanor theft by shoplifting and joined THG’s exclusive celebrity mug shots page. Purvis was featured on the MTV show in 2009. Her mom was busted for meth in Georgia last year. She recently dumped her slacker baby daddy too.

‘X Factor’ Exclusive: Bieber Fever Hits Rehearsals

MTV News’ Jim Cantiello takes us backstage as the top 12 prepare to perform. By Jim Cantiello Justin Bieber Photo: FilmMagic MTV News’ own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering “The X Factor” rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report! Bieber Fever has hit the halls of “X Factor”! On Tuesday, when Justin Bieber was performing on neighboring production “Dancing With the Stars,” all the teenage “X Factor” ladies were on a mission to meet the Biebz. It seemed like a no-brainer to orchestrate a Drew/Justin meet-up — her audition was all about how obsessed she is with him — which sparked a smidge of jealousy from the other teen contestants. One even playfully griped overdramatically, “But I’m a bigger fan than she is!” All the backstage drama was for naught: Drew didn’t get to meet Bieber after all. Also spotted Tuesday: Senior “X Factor” producers whistling and catcalling at a shirtless Derek Hough, who was rehearsing his “Dancing” results-show routine in the CBS hallways. Derek was unfazed. Inside the house, Nicole Scherzinger was sitting in on the girls’ rehearsals, even though she’s mentoring the Over 30s. Was she scoping out the competition? Where was girls’ mentor Simon? Turns out, Cowell sat in for Nicole’s category, since she was overseas performing on the U.K. “X Factor” when her singers were booked to rehearse. Simon joked backstage: “Her Over 30s were relieved to have me.” As showtime approached, the expected last-minute wardrobe tweaks were in full effect. One group was spotted getting magic tape applied to their glamorous footwear to prevent slippage. (Am I evil for hoping that they fall on live TV anyway? I love a good spill.) Two weeks into the live shows, the contestants are still getting along swimmingly. They’re so comfortable with one another that one of the girls was able to have a pretend diva fit over being jealous about one contestant’s over-the-top set piece, and everyone could laugh about it. We’ll see if the chummy vibe continues as the competition heats up, especially now that the singers’ fates are in voters’ hands. Eek! And here’s a little tidbit: Keep your eyes peeled for one of the male contestants’ arms tonight. In his (little) free time, he ran to a local tattoo parlor for new ink! Happy viewing! You can catch Jim on the “X Factor Pepsi Pre-Show,” streaming at 7 p.m. ET tonight on TheXFactorUSA.com ! Related Artists Justin Bieber

Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green Sing ‘Crazy’ In ‘The Voice’ Preview

Extended sneak peek of reality singing competition aired before Thursday’s ‘Tonight Show.’ By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera Photo: Isaac Brekken/ Getty Images It’s been almost impossible to avoid the avalanche of promotion for NBC’s new reality singing competition, “The Voice.” From splashy magazine ads to endless TV promos and interviews with the show’s four celebrity coaches, the show has been getting a full-court blitz in the lead-up to Tuesday night’s premiere. The biggest push to date occurred Thursday night, when a 12-minute teaser aired before “The Tonight Show,” highlighted by an all-star performance of the Gnarls Barkley smash “Crazy” by the four judges. With Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine on drums, country star Blake Shelton on guitar and Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green adding their pristine vocals to the song that made Green a superstar, each member of the quartet brought their patented brand of star power to the pop summit. Aguilera, of course, indulged in some of her R&B diva melisma, Green his deep soul growl, Shelton a bit of country grit and Levine some surprisingly sharp drum chops. The studio audience went crazy as host Carson Daly explained the unique concept behind the show, which will have the coaches listening with their backs turned to singers vying to be their prot

Jennifer Lopez’s ‘American Idol’ Past: A Look Back

J.Lo first surfaced on season six as a mentor, drawing on her dance roots to motivate ‘Idol’ wannabes. By Eric Ditzian “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez Photo: Tony Duran / FOX Who could have predicted that when Jennifer Lopez appeared on “American Idol” in 2007 and pronounced her love for the infamous Sanjaya Malakar that the diva-turned-guest mentor would one day return to the reality competition? But return she has, this time as a judge. As we prepare for her debut Wednesday night (January 19), alongside Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler , we’re taking a look back at J.Lo’s season-six “Idol” appearance, looking for clues as to how she’ll handle the tricky task of being both entertaining and instructive in the course of a seconds-long sound bite. Lopez stepped into “Idol” world for Latin night, when there were eight contestants still vying for the crown. What shines through most during her rehearsals with the singers is her desire to be supportive. When Haley Scarnato struggled to inject some passion into her performance, Lopez invited beat-boxing impresario Blake Lewis into the room to provide some energy. And instead of slamming Phil Stacey for butchering Santana’s “Maria Maria,” she urged him to imagine singing to someone as a way to connect with the emotional core of the tune. “The songs have to mean something,” Lopez explained. “They have to come from somewhere. Otherwise you just leave people feeling vacant.” That’s a key insight, even if it’s a bit obvious, and it’ll bear repeating again and again as the new contestants move onto increasingly bigger stages as the competition progresses. But it’s not just compassion and assistance with vocals that Lopez provided to the season-six crew. She also drew on her years as a dancer to help with the contestants’ theatricality. “Ride the rhythm,” she told LaKisha Jones as the two shimmied side by side. J.Lo also hoped that eventual winner Jordin Sparks would infuse her performances with more hip-shaking mojo, saying, “Let the rhythm in her body just move her a little bit.” Mentoring contestants for one day, of course, is a very different task than judging them for an entire season. It remains to be seen if Lopez will channel her ’07 performance during the new season, or whether she’ll seek to stake out new territory or fill in perceived personality gaps left by the departures of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi. What is clear is that even before she became an official “Idol” employee, she understood what separates the also-rans and wannabes from the singers who make it to the very end. “When [viewers] watch you guys every night, they’re like, ‘Who’s going to give me goosebumps?,’ ” she told the final-eight. “It doesn’t necessarily mean the one who hits the highest note. It’s the one who makes them feel good.” How do you think J.Lo will do on “Idol”? Tell us in the comments! Don’t miss our “American Idol” live stream “Judging the Judges: An ‘Idol’ Without Simon,” featuring post-show analysis from Jim Cantiello and special guests, on MTV.com tonight at 10 p.m. ET.
