Source: Donat Sorokin / Getty Philly Man Climbs Building To Save His Mother During A Fire According to ABC Philly , a Philadelphia man has become a local hero after scaling a West Philadelphia apartment building during a fire to save his mother. Jermaine, 35, is a roofer by trade, so he has some experience with tall buildings. “As kids we used to jump roofs,” he said. “Glad I had the practice.” Last week when the 19-story Westpark Apartments high-rise at 4445 Holden Street started filling with smoke, Jermaine got a call from his sister that their mother, 65-year-old Sheila, who is bed-ridden, couldn’t get out of her 15th floor apartment. So he sprang into action. After being blocked by the police when trying to enter the building, he decided to climb up and save her himself. “All for my mom’s safety, period. I wasn’t worried about mine at all. She can’t get out of the bed or walk around so if there’s a fire she needs help out,” he said. Jermaine actually DID make it all the way to his mom’s balcony and was assured by her that she was doing OK because the fire was contained. Instead of arresting Jermaine when he climbed back down, an officer actually let him go. “He understood the circumstances, he knew – when your adrenaline is pumping, and your mom is up there, you thinking she’s dying – you’d do anything you can,” Jermaine said according to ABC Philly.
Amber Portwood has spoken out for the first time since her arrest for domestic battery. But she hasn’t proclaimed her innocence. Nor has she thanked her fans for their support. Instead, the embattled Teen Mom OG star has seemingly hurled an enormous amount of shade in the direction of her alleged victim, Andrew Glennon. As you surely must know by now, Portwood is in major trouble with the law. She’s accused of throwing a shoe at Glennon early on the morning of July 5, prior to actually getting a machete and using it to try and break into the bathroom where Glennon ran off to hide with the couple’s young son, James. It’s wild and disturbing stuff. Amber, for her part, had not said anything about her arrest or the alleged incident that led up to it… … until Wednesday afternoon. “Cheating is a choice not a mistake,” Portwood wrote in a since-deleted post, seemingly implying that Glennon has been cheating on her. We hope Portwood doesn’t think this would be an acceptable excuse to attack Glennon, especially considering he was cradling little James at the time of the reported assault. Still, though…. Andrew being unfaithful to his girlfriend would certainly add a fairly big twist to this ugly scandal. For whatever it’s worth, however, Amber’s brother, Shawn, has shot down any cheating allegations. “No. He did not cheat. Get that out of y’alls minds,” Shawn Tweeted back on July 11. This is the same brother who claims he’s seen evidence that his sister is innocent of all charges . The timing of Amber’s apparent infidelity accusation is interesting to note, though. It was shared on the same day that Andrew not only demanded full custody of James, but also child support. In court documents, he went on to request that Amber not be allowed around James without professional supervision. “Father believes it is in James’ best interests that he be awarded sole legal and primary physical custody,” read these court papers, which Andrew filed on July 9. They continue: “Father believes that it is not currently in James’ best interests for Mother to have unsupervised parenting time.” It would stand to therefore reason that Portwood would try to discredit her second baby daddy a bit by hinting that he has a wandering and dishonest penis. Criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon. Domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old. According to an affidavit from the arrest detailing the alleged incident, the Teen Mom OG star allegedly took a handful of pills and “threatened to kill herself” before pulling the aforementioned weapon on him Glennon. Halle Bailey is about to be part of our big screen world. The 19-year old — who forms one half of the R&B duo Chloe X Halle, along with her sister — has been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Said director Rob Marshall of the decision to cast Bailey in the title role of the film, which is based entirely on the iconic 1989 Disney cartoon: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance – plus a glorious singing voice – all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.” Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also also talks to star and lend their voices to the movie, which will begin production in 2020. The Little Mermaid will be the latest Disney cartoon to be remade in this live-action fashion, following this spring’s Aladdin and this summer’s The Lion King. So… that’s it, right? End of story and end of this latest piece of interesting movie news? NOPE! Because social media can be a terrible place, full of judgment A-Holes and racists in general, many people out there are aghast over Bailey’s casting. Because they thought it was Halle Berry who was cast as Ariel? Actuallly, yes. This was an initial misunderstanding. But the bigger uproar has centered around the fact that Bailey is African-American and the character of Ariel was not. Of course, she as also a mermaid and Bailey is a human… but no one has really objected to this difference between the singer and the curious mermaid. This person, for example, tried to use science to argue that Ariel simply had to be white: There was also the use of the fake term “blackwashing,” along with some attempts to reason that Ariel is Dutch and, therefore, well, you see… We’ll spare you the disgusting details of other, similar Tweets. But know this: There’s a Change.org petition, which we are NOT about to link to, that calls for Bailey to be fired there must be “justice for Ariel” and the petition signees aren’t about to let “Disney ruin our childhood.” We don’t even know what to say about people who actually get worked up over what ethnicity they think a cartoon ought to be when he or she is brought to life by an actual person. Go outside? Take a nice, long walk? Try to re-evaluate every aspect of your life? Because, seriously, you are 1. Mostly just being racist; and 2.
