Justin Bieber ‘Has His Head On Straight’

‘You don’t hear anything bad about this guy,’ Boyz II Men’s Nate Morris says of teen superstar during ‘MTV First: Justin Bieber.’ By James Dinh, with reporting by James Montgomery Justin Bieber in “Mistletoe” Photo: Island Def Jam Justin Bieber is bridging the generation gap with his star-studded holiday album, Under the Mistletoe. He’s collaborated with a string of stars like Mariah Carey , Busta Rhymes and Usher for the November 1 LP. But it’s the Biebs’ pairing with Boyz II Men that’s sure to expand the teen star’s fanbase. We spoke to BIIM’s Nate Morris via Skype during our special “MTV First: Justin Bieber” this week, and he shared his thoughts on the young singer as well as their holiday collabo “Falalalala.” “We respect him, man,” the R&B crooner told MTV News’ James Montgomery. “I watch what he does, I watch what the people around him do, and they’re guiding him in the right directions. You don’t hear anything bad about this guy. He has his head on straight.” JB’s team includes his mother, Pattie, who Morris said clearly has Bieber’s best interests at heart. “His mom has got his focus in the right direction and as long as she does that, he’ll be just fine,” he added. So will Boyz II Men head to the studio again with the pop superstar? Morris was optimistic, saying, “Oh, without a doubt. We just have to figure out the right circumstance. This was perfect for us because, you know, we wanted to try to make sure that the first song we did together was something that people could accept the two artists doing together. … If there’s a soundtrack or whatever that comes along that we can create something special, that’ll be hot.” BIIM’s team-up with JB is just one of many treats the group has planned for their comeback. On October 25, they’re set to drop Twenty, a new double-disc set that features both brand-new tracks and re-recorded classics. “It’s a collection of our best work, we think,” Morris admitted. “I mean, 20 years is a long time to be in this business, so we tried to encompass a little bit of everything. …We wanted to bring everything together all on one [album] even for those young Bieber fans who may not know all the Boyz II Men records — they can get all the history and today’s music on one CD.” Are you excited to hear JB’s collabo with Boyz II Men? This Is The Face Of A Crazy Person

This deranged heffa murked her son by “gutting him like a fish”: An Upper West Side mom was charged with manslaughter over the slaying of her 18-year-old son. Sean Hines was found dead at about 11 p.m. in the West 92nd Street housing-project unit near Columbus Avenue. Yvonne Hines, his 52-year-old mom, answered the door to let cops in. “She had a sponge in her hand,” NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said. “It was bloody.” A neighbor said that the woman “gutted him like a fish” but that as she was being hauled away, she yelled, “My husband did that!” Hines’ stepfather was questioned over the stabbing, but not charged. Young Jeezy Sample ‘Cool,’ Above & Beyond Say

‘A lot of people have been assuming that Jeezy’s been ripping us off,’ says A&B’s Tony McGuinness of ‘F.A.M.E.’ By Akshay Bhansali Young Jeezy Photo: Prince Williams/Getty Images Recently, Atlanta MC Young Jeezy put out his much-awaited Thug Motivation 103 album’s latest single, “F.A.M.E. (Fake Ass Muthaf—as Envy),” featuring closing bars by a back-in-the-game T.I. , online, and since then, the song has been viewed more than 160,000 times and has been heavily commented on. Ironically, the song, in which Jeezy and T.I. both call out hateration and envy, has been met with a smidge of criticism, though judging by the type of folks leaving the comments , it should come as no surprise. In fact, the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced song is based around a 2005 trance-music classic, Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor’s “Air for Life,” which features vocals by Carrie Skipper. In the comments section of the song online, trance-music purists both lament the hip-hop reworking of “Air” but also suggest the sample was used without permission, something Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness (the Above & Beyond trio also includes Jono Grant & Paavo Siljam

R. Kelly Undergoes Emergency Throat Surgery

Love Letter singer cancels Reggae Sumfest performance. By Jocelyn Vena R. Kelly Photo: WireImage It looks like the Reggae Sumfest will have to go on without R. Kelly . The singer has just announced that, due to health issues, he will no longer be on the lineup for the Jamaican festival, which began Sunday and will run through the upcoming weekend. Kelly was scheduled to perform Friday, however he was rushed to the hospital for throat surgery. “R&B superstar R. Kelly will be laid up for an indefinite amount of time after undergoing an emergency procedure at Northwestern Memorial Hospital yesterday to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils,” a press release reads. “Kelly had visited a throat specialist earlier in the day complaining of severe throat pain,” it continues. “Following a preliminary exam, he was rushed to Northwestern Memorial for the procedure. It is not known when the multiplatinum recording star, who just completed the U.S. leg of his worldwide Love Letter Tour , will be able to resume performing.” Kelly was one of the headlining draws for the Montego Bay festival. Other performers slated to take the stage at Reggae Sumfest include Nicki Minaj, Mya, Beenie Man, Elephant Man and a number of other artists from the Caribbean and the U.S. There has been no word on whether Kelly, who was to perform during one of the international nights, will be replaced. Justin Bieber, Chris Brown Spotted In Studio Together

Pair has previously worked on two tracks together, ‘Up’ and ‘Next to You.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber and Chris Brown Photo: Getty/WireImage Pals Justin Bieber and Chris Brown were spotted heading into a studio together on Monday. According to Rap-Up.com , the singers met up at the Record Plant in Hollywood. “Studio. #NEWMUSIC,” Bieber tweeted early Tuesday morning, leading us to believe the session was for his next album. Previously Bieber told MTV News that he wanted to focus less on features for his next album, but given the fact that Brown recently wrote a track for Joe Jonas , it’s possible he may have just been assisting with some writing. The rumored session marks the latest collaboration for the pair, who have appeared on two tracks together in the past. First, they remixed Bieber’s slow jam “Up,” then Bieber jumped on Brown’s ballad “Next to You.” Bieber’s producer, Danja, told Rap-Up.com that he’s aiming for an “edgier” sound for the 17-year-old’s next release. “What I’m creating for him I think is definitely a more mature sound. That’s where he’s headed now,” he explained. Earlier this year, Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, revealed some other names the pop star hopes to get into the studio with, including Drake, a collaboration Bieber hinted at last year. Bieber is also reportedly working with Kanye West. “Him and Kanye [West] had a call today about a song they’re trying to work on together,” Braun said. “Kanye wants to produce a bunch of songs for the new album.” Related Artists Chris Brown Justin Bieber
