Slaughterhouse To Release Single By December, Says Royce Da 5’9"

‘Hopefully, we’ll have a single out by the end of the year, if not the album,’ Royce tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Royce Da 5’9″ Photo: MTV News With Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne in pop-up stores and a joint Drake and Lil Wayne album on the horizon, hip-hop collaborations are the latest buzz topic. A four-man collective that should be in the discussion is Slaughterhouse, consisting of Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and recent MTV “RapFix Live” guest Royce Da 5’9″ . Royce revealed on RapFix that the next Slaughterhouse album — their eponymous debut dropped in 2009 — may arrive by year’s end. “Very soon, very soon,” Royce said when asked about the next Slaughterhouse project’s status. “We’re working on the project right now. We’re actually going to Atlanta on Thursday [August 11]. All the guys, we’re all getting together and going in with some heavy-hitting producers. Hopefully, we’ll have a single out by the end of the year, if not the album.” At the top of the year, the supergroup of veteran MCs signed a recording deal with Eminem’s Shady Records . Four distinct personalities and voices could mean inevitable dissension, but Nickel Nine insists that is far from the case. He detailed how one particular difference of opinion among the group was mediated. “Never that,” Royce said. “The last discussion we had where people didn’t agree — it wasn’t an argument, but it was just us talking — was where we were going to record at because the last two times was in Detroit. I never want to make them feel like they have to come to Detroit just because me and Marshall [Eminem] are there. So I’m always willing to compromise in that way. Crooked wanted to go and take advantage of having Marshall in our corner. Joey wanted a change of environment — he wants to go to Atlanta. Joell was just in the middle. That’s what happens when you have four different people. We just got on the phone and it ended up being Atlanta. We take votes, we do everything fair.” Finally, Royce assured fans that new music is definitely on the way, saying, “It’ll at least be a single, I guarantee you that,” by December. “Because we got one right now that I think can go. I think it can be the first thing we can go out there with,” he added. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame And Royce Da 5’9″ Related Artists Royce Da 5’9″ Slaughterhouse

Yelawolf Recalls Meeting Eminem For The First Time

Shady Records rapper also tells MTV News’ ‘RapFix Live’ that Em got him to curb his drinking. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway When Yelawolf first met his new boss, Eminem, the meeting couldn’t have been more casual. “He said, ‘What’s up? I’m Marshall,’ ” Yelawolf recalled to MTV News on Thursday’s (March 10) “RapFix Live.” The meeting obviously went well: Yela is the latest recruit to Em’s Shady Records empire , along with Slaughterhouse (Joe Budden, Crooked I, Joell Oritz and Royce Da 5’9″.) Yela and Em talked in Detroit after producer Jim Jonsin and Eminem’s manager urged the rapper to listen to the upstart’s music . They shared similarities in their upbringing, and the partnership paid off immediately when the Grammy-winning superstar bestowed the young lyricist with advice, according to Yela. “I’m a drinker; I drink a lot,” he explained. “My management was concerned about some advice he could give me about slowing down so I don’t get caught up in that life. He told me if it gets to the point where you need a drink before you go onstage, like you require that to function, is when you need to check yourself. And honestly, that’s where I was at that point. And I’ve changed. I don’t drink before I perform anymore.” The Alabama rapper will stick knock back a beer, but he’s given up overdoing it before shows. Now, he says, he’s enjoying himself more and his confidence has grown. And that courage helped when he first played Eminem his debut album. “I’m super excited about the music and fully confident that it’s jamming,” he said. “I was a little nervous, but after we broke the ice and really chopped it up, he seemed excited about it. So that makes me twice as excited now.” What do you think of Yelawolf’s music? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Yelawolf Related Artists YelaWolf Eminem

Eminem Signs Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf To Shady Records

Cashis and D-12 remain on the roster as Shady enters ‘new generation.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Eminem, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf on the March 2010 cover of XXL magazine Photo: Kai Regan/ Harris Publications Eminem is back in more ways than one. The Detroit lyricist is reviving his Shady Records company, and Wednesday (January 12) he announced the signing of two new acts: underground supergroup Slaughterhouse and upstart rapper Yelawolf . Cashis and D-12 remain on the roster, but Em made no secret of wanting to bring new life to his company. “Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse, it’s kinda phase two of Shady,” Eminem explained in a statement. “It’s the new generation of Shady Records, and as we’re trying to rebuild our label, it’s exciting for hip-hop, and with all of these forces coming together and with what everybody’s capable of on the mic, it’s gonna be fun.” The four-man Slaughterhouse collective — Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5’9″ — was in talks with Shady Records for longer than a year working on the deal. “I been answering that question for a year and change, ever since that Drake ‘Forever’ music video,” Budden told MTV News during an appearance on “RapFix Live,” citing a scene where the group stands behind Em during his verse. “It’s like, Eminem is a whole nother entity. The guy is nominated for 10 Grammys.” Southern rhyme slinger Yelawolf is backed by music industry veteran Kawan “KP” Prather, who inked an upstart T.I. to his first deal and helped Usher on the superstar’s Confessions album. “Considering where I’m from and the sh– I’ve been through, it’s hard to put into words what partnering with Shady means to me, my team at Ghet-O-Vision and my state of Alabama,” Yela said in prepared remarks. “I can tell you that when you’re willing to give your life up to see a dream through, the reward is great,” he continued. “And now that I’ve become an apprentice to one of the greatest artists in the world, my potential reaches beyond anything I ever imagined. Let’s kill this sh–.” Both acts are expected to deliver projects in the coming months. What other artists would you like to see on Shady Records? Share your ideas in the comments below! Joe Budden Says Thought Of Slaughterhouse/ Eminem Deal Is ‘Scary’

‘It’s scary to even fathom being on a record with Eminem or Royce or Crook or Joell,’ MC tells Sway on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Joe Budden Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News New Jersey-bred rapper Joe Budden’s acclaimed Mood Muzik series and the Slaughterhouse project have earned him a rep for his lyrical skills. But in spite of his credentials, Budden said lining up next to esteemed MCs is a nerve-racking experience. When pressed about his group Slaughterhouse (Budden, Royce Da 5’9″, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz) potentially signing a deal with Eminem, Budden explained how daunting that thought is for him. “It’s scary to even fathom being on a record with Eminem or Royce or Crook or Joell,” he told Sway during his appearance on “RapFix Live.” “Just four guys who, when they wanna [black out they can].” He compared the theoretical lineup to a real experience he had on his recently released Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 the Worst. The track “Remember the Titans” featured Lloyd Banks, Fabolous, and Royce. They announced the lineup prior to recording and releasing the song online. Fans had plenty of comments, and one in particular caused Royce to have one of those moments Budden fears. “I’ve rapped with Fab a bunch of times,” Budden said. “It was my first time getting with Lloyd Banks. And I always rap with Royce, so I always know what I’m getting. But a bunch of fans said something that really ticked Royce off: You don’t belong on that song. And they seemed to think it was pretty funny. In my head, I’m thinking, Oh my god, Why are you making this incredible, incredible MC angry, to where now he has a point to prove? So, Royce goes on there and tore that beat apart just like I knew he would. But that whole thing is scary to me.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Joe Budden Related Artists Joe Budden Eminem

Joe Budden Says Eminem/Slaughterhouse Deal ‘Not Done’

‘[It’s] too premature for me to speak on,’ Jersey MC says of whether supergroup will sign with Shady, on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Joe Budden Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News For fans of the supergroup Slaughterhouse, Joe Budden has one thing he can confirm about the crew’s buzzed-about deal with Eminem: It’s too early to confirm anything. Whispers that the hip-hop A-Team of Budden, Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz will ink a contract with the Shady Records boss have followed the foursome for a while, but while closing a deal with the Detroit hip-hop head looks promising, nothing has been nailed down just yet. “The deal is not done. If everything goes according to plan, [then] hopefully. [It’s] too premature for me to speak on,” Budden said during his “RapFix Live” interview on Thursday (December 16). Even though Budden doesn’t have any new answers for Slaughterhouse acolytes eager for an official stamp of approval from Em, the Mood Muzik MC noted that he’s been fielding the same fan inquiries for a minute. “I’ve been answering that same question for a … year and change. Maybe ever since the Drake “Forever” video … when Slaughterhouse was standing with Eminem, I’ve been answering Eminem questions,” he said. “Eminem is a whole ‘nother entity, the guy’s nominated for 10 Grammys.” Em may be a chart-ruling trophy magnet but Budden said the first time he chopped it up with the Recovery lyricist, it was his wit that made an impression on the New Jersey-bred spitter. “[He said] something real sarcastic. Something sarcastic as far as rapping goes. I think it was about a verse that I was doing. It’s OK. But he’s funny like that,” Budden recalled, before explaining Shady’s disarmingly down-to-earth charm. “It’s almost like you’re not even talking to him, like he’s not who he is. I’m a huge fan, so I’ll be sitting there like, ‘Holy snap, it’s Em,’ then [you’re] cracking jokes the next minute. [He’s] just a real cool guy.” Budden also told MTV News last month that despite his outsize fame, Em remains a dedicated guardian of hip-hop culture. “Em, to be as successful as he is, and I’ll just tell this to anybody with two ears, or one ear, for that matter, is just one of the most supportive hip-hop people that I’ve met,” he said. “He’s really, really just into hip-hop and rap and lyrics. He’s just really into all of the things that group was built around.” What are you looking forward to from Slaughterhouse and Joe Budden? Let us know in the comments! Eminem Pushes Alchemist To ‘Step My Game Up’

‘When you’re on the stage with Em, there’s no room for error,’ DJ tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Eminem Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images Behind The Beats: Alchemist Alchemist pulled it off once again. Al, who rose to fame with his production for the likes of Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks and Lil Wayne, has been prospering lately as Eminem’s DJ. Em doesn’t perform too much, so when a star of his caliber takes the stage, every show is high-profile. This month, Al was in the DJ booth during Em’s Home and Home shows with Jay-Z in Detroit and in New York. “With the band now, it eases a little bit of the pressure,” Al said. “My friends say, ‘You’re pressing play and stop.’ I’ll tell them, ‘It’s pressing play and stop; it’s not the technical part of it. If you mess it up, it’s a stop and go, but you better do it right on time.’ It’s like the pyro. The pyro guy can’t be a second off. Somebody can get blown up. Em being the perfectionist he is, it was clear: ‘All right, Al, when you’re on the stage with Em, there’s no room for error.’ I respected that. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s gonna make me step my game up.’ I’m watching his shows, before I was his DJ, looking at how his vocals were perfect. In sync, perfect. I felt like this is important. I took it real serious.” Al said he, Eminem manager Paul Rosenberg and D12’s Mr. Porter all give Em input on the show. “At first I was nervous. Like, ‘This is one of the greatest of all time. It’s nothing I can really tell him,’ ” Al thought back. “But as you vibe together, you get ideas. I would test the waters a little bit. He would listen, not always take your idea, but be open-minded. As we started rehearsing, I started implementing some of the stuff I’m known for.” Paul and Em told Al to put some of his own flavor into the live sets. Fans got to hear some of that flavor during the Home and Home series. “It was ‘The Way I Am,’ ” Alchemist explained. “It was an old version where they had Edie Brickell in it: ‘What I am is what I am.’ So … I was like, ‘We should bring it back when we play it live.’ It was a reason they didn’t use it on the original song. Maybe clearance or something. Stuff like that. Or at the end of ‘Not Afraid,’ when the band is breaking it down, I made them get the a cappella and I put in the ‘Holla if you … ‘ Start cutting that up. I think about [DJ] Premier a lot. I think about how to be subtle as a DJ. The band’s up here, Em is running the show. I look at it as accents. I was around [DJ] Muggs for so many years. I got to see so many great people do it. Definitely try to think of what I saw through the years, be subtle and play my part. Add some flavor.” Next Wave of Flav On Eminem and Slaughterhouse : “I didn’t make the Recovery album. Shout-out to DJ Khalil, the big homie. He did, like, four joints on the album. Em’s got him on the album. Mr. Porter made the album. Havoc made the album. It adds to me wanting to go even harder. I think what it was, that I’m so accustomed to making stuff for Mobb Deep or Dilated [Peoples] or the people in my immediate circle. Being around Em more, I’m starting to get it. People vibe, and we make the best music. Now that I’m around him more, there’s talks of the Slaughterhouse project. I think that might be one of the first moments I might be able to pick up some dust.” On Gang Green : “I got this project Gang Green with Oh No, a real good friend from the West Coast, a collaboration project we did together. We did the rhymes and beats together. It’s like I’m almost going backwards. I’ve had my years when I tried to make big stuff after I had a little success. Now I’m gong back to the raw beats, making something every country can feel. Raekwon’s on the joint. Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Fat Sean, a bunch of people I have relationships with.” On Prodigy : “P comes home in February. It’s gonna be a very busy time. It’s amazing. He feels like he’s home already. He’s in the best health he’s been in. He’s really excited. I’ve been sending him beats. Havoc is sending him beats. I e-mail them to his wife, and she puts it on some type of cassette. It’s like he’s in the studio, he’s just not recording.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
