Lindsay Lohan May Have Prescription To Blame For Drug Problems

Adderall may have exacerbated any existing issues, expert says. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: OutOfSightMedia/ Getty Images It may turn out that the disease that troubled actress Lindsay Lohan isn’t suffering from is the one that could have caused many of her recent problems. According to TMZ , the doctors at the UCLA rehabilitation facility where Lohan is currently 19 days into a court-ordered, 90-day inpatient stay reportedly believe that the “Mean Girls” star was misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and that the commonly prescribed drug used to treat that disorder, Adderall, may have caused her to exhibit the irrational, manic symptoms similar to those of someone abusing cocaine or methamphetamine. Lohan’s lawyer has not returned requests for comment from MTV News, but Dr. Peter Breggin, a psychiatrist and leading expert on the dangers of the over-prescribing of psychiatric drugs, said it doesn’t really matter if Lohan, 24, was misdiagnosed or not. “Whether or not she was misdiagnosed, [Adderall] will have the same effect,” said Breggin, the author of “Medication Madness: The Role of Psychiatric Drugs in Cases of Violence, Suicide and Crime,” who has not treated Lohan and does not have first-hand knowledge of her case. “It’s a myth that it will have a different effect whether you have ADHD or not,” he explained. “If she was given Adderall, it’s entirely possible she would have a reaction that was indistinguishable from that of methamphetamine or cocaine, including producing manic or psychotic behavior.” While Adderall has helped many teenagers and adults suffering from ADHD gain control of their lives, Breggin said it is possible to become addicted to the drug, which, at high doses can cause out-of-control episodes. Add in an addiction to or chronic use of cocaine and other stimulants and, he said, that person could very easily be susceptible to the abuse of Adderall. “Adderall is pure amphetamine and it changes the neurotransmitters in a similar fashion [as other stimulants],” he said, noting that research in humans and animals has shown that the effect on those vital neurotransmitters is to make the person crave stimulants. “You don’t want to give someone an amphetamine who has or had a craving for methamphetamine or cocaine.” While Lohan has never discussed what issues have sent her to rehab three previous times, she has a history of arrests for drunk driving , including one in 2007 during which police allegedly found a packet of cocaine in her pocket. “You would not want to give anyone, for any purpose, Adderall if they were known to abuse methamphetamine or cocaine. You’re just setting them up for being hooked on Adderall,” Breggin said. Before she went to jail, it was revealed that among the prescription medicines Lohan was taking was the sleep aid Ambien, which didn’t surprise Breggin. “Ambien is sold for insomnia, but it’s a sedative and you use it to come down,” he said. “It’s common to go from a stimulant to a sedative to try to control the experience of going up and down.” Before her pair of DUI arrests in 2007, Lohan was often been spotted drinking late into the night. Breggin said that also didn’t surprise him, since alcohol, like Ambien, is a sedative used to counteract stimulation. The upshot of the alleged misdiagnosis, according to TMZ’s unnamed source familiar with Lohan’s treatment at UCLA, is that the former judge in Lohan’s case, Marsha Revel, may have “overreacted” when she ordered the actress to serve 90 days in rehab. The site claimed that Lohan has been weaned off all the medications she was taking — which also included the serious pain medication Dilaudid, antidepressants Zoloft and Trazodone, and acid-reflux treatment Nexium — with no adverse reaction. She has also reportedly not shown symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. With all that in mind, the new judge in the case will meet with lawyers next week to discuss a possible early release for Lohan from in-patient. Jesse McCartney Announces New Single

‘Shake’ will hit radio in September, with a new album to follow. By Jocelyn Vena Jesse McCartney Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images Jesse McCartney is ready to give his fans new music. The singer has announced plans to release a single sometime next month, and he’ll have a new album coming out sometime after the song’s release. The singer, known for hits like “Beautiful Soul” and “Leavin,” tweeted the news Monday (August 16) night. “Here we go…The first single is called SHAKE and will be given to radio AFTER LABOR DAY! Album title? Haha! Yall have to wait for that one.” While fans will only have to wait a few more weeks to hear “Shake,” they won’t find out what McCartney’s album will sound like for a while. It’s been two years since the singer released his third album Departure , which was re-released in 2009 as Departure: Recharged . His song “Up” appears on the “Step Up 3D” soundtrack. The last time McCartney caught up with MTV News , he was hoping to reunite with his “How Do You Sleep?” collaborator Ludacris once again. “I know that I might work with Ludacris again,” he said last December. “That’s maybe a possibility, and he’s great — he’s one of my favorite rappers … and he’s amazing to work with.” He also had an idea of what he wanted the album to sound like. “It’s gonna be kind of a continuation of Departure , but maybe a little more R&B slightly. You’ll get the chance to hear what’s going on in my head right now and a little … more personal,” he said. “It’s a little bit more raw, but still rhythmic and upbeat. It’s still soulful. I’m still kind of writing it all out. I don’t want to give too much away.” Related Artists Jesse McCartney

Britney Spears Looking Pretty Damn Good

It’s kind of nice to finally see some pictures of Britney Spears that don’t involve iced frappuccinos or crazy lady nipples poking out all over the place. Here she is in the August issue of Cosmopolitan looking like a pretty normal hot chick. Unfortunately, Britney has been so off the wall for so many years that seeing her looking somewhat normal is pretty damn strange, like she’s taken a horse tranquilizer to keep the crazy at bay. Anyhow, luckily her tight little body makes me forget that she might stab me in my sleep and I still want to bang her. more pictures of Britney Spears here

Why ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ Is Set For Fall 2012, Not Summer

Summit, film analysts refute rumors that release date was based on ‘Eclipse’ box-office performance. By Eric Ditzian Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Last month, as “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” got off to a stellar (if not record-breaking) start at the box office, MTV News squashed the widely held assumption that the second part of “Breaking Dawn” would definitely arrive in the summer of 2012. As Summit Entertainment exec Richie Fay told us, the studio was exploring multiple dates in mid- to late 2012, not just possible openings that would fall when school’s out of session. Now, Summit has officially announced that “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” will open November 2012 , and with that, another assumption seems to be taking hold among fans and on the Web: After “Eclipse” failed to wildly out-gross “New Moon” at the box office, Summit got spooked about a summer release date and fled to more familiar autumn territory. But based on our conversations with Summit and box-office analysts, that’s simply not the case. First off, it’s important to note that despite all this talk about a weaker-than-expected performance for “Eclipse,” its $289 million haul will eventually surpass the $297 million that “New Moon” pulled in last fall, according to Box Office Mojo . When you consider that sequels like “Shrek Forever After” and “Sex and the City 2” underperformed in the crowded summer-movie season, Summit has to be extremely pleased with the box-office business of “Eclipse.” So if it’s not a fear of summer that persuaded Summit to deliver both “Breaking Dawn” films in the fall, then what was it? A careful examination of the 2012 summer calendar. “The lesson is that it’s all about positioning a film at a time when it will face as little direct competition as possible,” explained Phil Contrino, editor of BoxOffice.com . “Summit was wise to stay away from summer 2012, because it’s shaping up to be a record-breaking season.” “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3” and “Men in Black 3” are all set to drop that May, followed by “Star Trek 2” in June, and then new installments of “Spider-Man” (which already occupies the Fourth of July slot held this year by “Eclipse”), “Ice Age” and “Batman.” “Why compete with an amazing slate like that if you don’t have to?” Contrino added. “I’m sure ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ would still open very well during a summer that crowded, but its audience would be devoured very quickly.” The point, then, is not that summer is a poor time to release a “Twilight” film but that fall simply presents less competition, which is not to say that there will be no box-office battle in autumn. “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” is set to open against “Happy Feet 2” on November 18, 2011, while the second in the two-part finale will compete with “Monsters Inc. 2” on November 16, 2012. But when you consider the more jam-packed summer season and the fact that an entire year will have passed between “Twilight” flicks — as opposed to the eight months between “New Moon” and “Eclipse” — the fall 2012 release date makes perfect sense. “There’s a mood and spirit to these movies that make them play really well in the fall. They’re darker, they’re more emotional than standard summer fare, and thematically, fall is a great fit,” said John Singh, a box-office analyst for Flixster . “It also allows the audience to build even greater anticipation — rather than seeing the follow-up just a few months later. This gives them a full year to anticipate the final film in a series that has generated hugely positive response from its fanbase.” How do you feel about the two “Breaking Dawn” films opening a year apart? Amber Rose Hot Little Bikini Pictures

Here’s Kanye West’s ladyfriend Amber Rose hanging out in her sexy black bikini on the beach the other day. To be honest I don’t know if they’re still dating or not, I’m far too busy spending my days writing about celebrity boobs to keep track of what rapper is dating who, but I like the way she looks in her little bikini. I feel like these would be much better printed out and made into a sexy little flip book I could keep with me at all times just in case I get bored. Who wants and arts and craft project? more pictures of Amber Rose here

Nicole Scherzinger’s Cute Little Tube Top

I don’t know what Nicole Scherzinger has been up to after that whole Dancing With The Douchebags crap wrapped up, but I’m glad to see that she hasn’t lost her figure. I guess she never got my letters about coming over to watch the finale of The Bachelorette , what a let down. I had it all planned out, we were going to make popcorn and do each other hair and have pillow fights and watch each other sleep. Some other time I guess.

Actress Vonetta McGee Dies At Age 65

She appeared alongside Clint Eastwood in ‘The Eiger Sanction’ and in many blaxploitation films. By Kara Warner Vonetta McGee Photo: Los Angeles Times Actress Vonetta McGee, best known for her leading roles in the blaxploitation films “Blacula,” “Hammer” and “Shaft in Africa,” has died at age 65. The Los Angeles Times reports that McGee died Friday (July 9) after being admitted to a Berkeley, California, hospital for cardiac arrest, for which she was put on life support for two days. Born Lawrence Vonetta McGee in San Francisco on January 14, 1945, she caught the acting bug while attending college and landed her first film role in the 1968 spaghetti western “The Great Silence.” Times movie reviewer Kevin Thomas called McGee “one of the busiest and most beautiful black actresses” in 1972, the year “Hammer” and “Blacula” were released. She later appeared alongside Clint Eastwood in the action-thriller “The Eiger Sanction.” Other film credits include “The Lost Man,” “Detroit 9000,” “Brothers,” “Repo Man” and “To Sleep With Anger,” as well as many successful roles in television. Her “Hammer” co-star Fred Williamson said he was most pleased to see her alongside Clint Eastwood. “Not many black actors had that opportunity to be in a movie where color doesn’t matter,” he said. “Vonetta McGee was like a lot of actors and actresses at that time, like myself, Jim Brown, Richard Roundtree, Billy Dee Williams and Pam Grier, in that we had more talent than we were allowed to show because everything was perceived as a black project. Once they categorize you, your marketability becomes limited.” Though she is known primarily for her roles in blaxploitation films, McGee outwardly criticized Hollywood’s profligation of the term. She told the Times in 1979 that the wording was “like racism, so you don’t have to think of the individual elements, just the whole. If you study propaganda, you understand how this works.” She is survived by her husband, Carl Lumbly; son Brandon; her mother; three brothers; and a sister. Max B Recalls Making A Wave Called Yes Tape While On Trial

‘For the music to come out that good while I was in trial, that was surprising to me,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Max B Photo: Amalgam Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : A Wave Called Yes Headliners : Max B and Young Riot Key Cameos : “Living the Life” (featuring Curren$y) Essential Info : Max B said his wave just doesn’t dry up. While the New York MC awaits his appeal of a decades-long prison sentence for manslaughter and various other charges, his music is still being heard. Amalgam Digital recently released a mixtape by the spitter and the upstart Young Riot. “That’s me and my young god, Young Riot,” Max said on the phone from the New Jersey State Penitentiary. “He’s holding it down while I’m up in the spot. We got a few treats on there. I remember the night we did them. [The executives at Amalgam] drove me out to Boston, 2 in the morning. I went out there and drank a 60 of Hennessey and knocked out the whole tape. Knocked the tape out in one night. That’s what professionals do. This is when I was going to trial. They came and got me on a Friday or Saturday, I had to be back on Sunday, Monday morning to go back to court. It was a real busy week. I was really busy on trial. For the music to come out that good while I was on trial, that was surprising to me. That just let me know, no matter how long I’m gone from the game, I’m still a natural. I still can make quality work. I’mma still be Biggavelli.” Amalgam is going to let A Wave Called Yes rock for the summer then drop Max’s solo LP, Vigilante Season. B recently won a court case to be freed from his contract with Jim Jones, who discovered him. “We recorded 40 songs in three weeks,” Max said of his dealings with Amalgam last year. At the time, he was still contractually bound to Jones and did not know if the music would be allowed to be released. “Nonstop in the summertime. Vigilante was real special to me. It was like they giving me a shot. Even if it wasn’t coming out, they gave me the feel of just going to do the album. I was doing it my way.” As for when Max will be free to record again, he says it’s in God’s hands now. The rapper’s appeal could take between 18 months and three years to be resolved. If he loses that appeal, it could be an additional three years before he can appeal again. Max was sentenced to 75 years in prison in September 2009 for conspiracy, robbery, manslaughter and a myriad of other crimes. The jurors in the case felt there was ample evidence to convict him of the 2005 robbery of two men in a Fort Lee, New Jersey, hotel room. One of the men was shot and killed. Max wasn’t at the scene of the crime, but the prosecutors built their case with him as the mastermind. Max still denies being involved. His stepbrother Kelvin Leerdam was also convicted in the matter, and Max’s former girlfriend Gina Conway was involved as well but eventually testified against the men. Leerdam is serving time along with Max. “I always kinda had that problem with finding the right people,” Max said of the choices that led him to prison, right as he appeared to be on the verge of mainstream recognition. “People always say you gotta surround yourself with people who have your best interests in mind. I always found that hard to do, because when you’re in my situation, everybody acts like they got your best interests, but they don’t. We know who got your best interests — your mother, your father, your kid’s mother, whatever. Your immediate family. But you can’t have them on the road with you every day. You gotta be around your n—as. “You gotta pick them carefully,” he added. “I always had a problem with picking the right people I surround myself with. That’s always been my downfall, ever since I was a little kid. That’s something I gotta learn off experience. This is definitely an experience. The toughest sh– I been through in my life. You already know when I beat this, it’s gonna be beautiful. I just can’t wait. That’s the only thing keeping me going. Me saying [to myself], ‘Max, when you beat this, it’s gonna be a whole new lane out there for you.’ Me being able to attack this sh– right and make a living for my mother and my kids and be a good productive [citizen] in society. I’m a G. My moms raised me as a G. The only reason you don’t hear me stressing out, I know I’m coming home and I know I’m coming home soon.” Other Heat This Week

Deadly Bat Disease Set to Go Global

Image credit: U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service – Northeast Region /Flickr No one likes to have their sleep disturbed but for hibernating bats it can actually be deadly. Geomyces destructans is caused by a white fungus that irritates infected bats’ skin, rousing them from their slumber and causing them to expend precious reserves of energy—often leading to starvation. Since first being discovered in Northern New York, the syndrome has spread west. Now, an outbreak in caves in Oklahoma have experts worried it is poised to spread across the hemis… Read the full story on TreeHugger
