Snoop Dogg Gets West Coast Rappers ‘Organized’ On New Mixtape

‘If you make good music and we are one, they’re gonna get onboard,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Snoop Dogg Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ Getty Images Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : Snoop Dogg Presents: We Da West Volume One Headliners : Snoop Dogg, DJ Whoo Kid and DJ Skee Co-Stars : Nipsey Hussle, Kurupt, Tha Twinz, Soopafly, Katt Williams, Jay-Z and Ludacris Essential Info : Snoop Dogg said his coast still needs to unify and the artists have to be leaders. “All I just want is the n—as out here to see if you make good music and we are one, they’re gonna get onboard and they gonna give you what you deserve,” Snoop explained to DJ Whoo Kid, who hosts the tape with DJ Skee. “You gonna get your radio play, your spins. But if you ain’t organized, n—as can come out here and pick and choose. They can take Nipsey, put Nipsey on a remix. Put Kurupt on a remix. They can never pick all of us and say, ‘You all go on a mission. The West Fest Tour. All West Coast n—as go on tour.’ ” Tha Dogg said his latest mixtape is the first of many to showcase up-and-coming talent. ” Volume One is just me bringing awareness to the artists. I have a vehicle to put their sh– out, through people such as yourself,” he told Whoo Kidd. “After this sh– comes out, n—as need to be running to the studio. Now you can be heard and seen. Even if a n—a only hears your record once or twice, you in a new system. You not just local no more. You not just in your neighborhood. You in a world system now.” Last year, Snoop dropped his I Wanna Rock mixtape , and he said it was better than Malice N Wonderland because it was uncut. “That sh– was banging harder than my album, ’cause the mixtape, we don’t have to make records to release to the radio,” he said. “My label looking at me: ‘We need a couple of songs for pop. We wanna go top 40.’ Then I call these radio stations: ‘Snoop Dogg, you’re working on a new album. When is your album coming out?’ Mutha—-a, my album is out, n—a! ‘Your single “Gangsta Love” is top 40.’ N—a, I’m on the next single, ‘I Wanna Rock.’ Some gangsta sh–. “It’s so square, man,” he said about working with the top 40 stations. “I’m so far in my career, I’m at the pinnacle. It’s a mode I have to go to. I don’t knock that, but I knock it when they say you have to do that to be successful.” Other Heat This Week

Jay-Z Feels The Hometown Love At Madison Square Garden Show

Jay gets some help from Young Jeezy, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj and other special guests. By Shaheem Reid Jay-Z performs at Madison Square Garden Tuesday Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images NEW YORK — There is always palpable exhilaration whenever Jay-Z plays Madison Square Garden. Tuesday night (March 2) was another sold-out show at MSG as Hov’s Blueprint 3 Tour arrived in town. After Trey Songz played up to the ladies with his set, there was a short intermission. Like lightning — boom! The Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” video began playing on two big screens that hung over the stage, and a 10-minute countdown began perfectly in sync with the classic hip-hop track. Hova chants started several minutes prior to that. Finally, with no time left on the clock, Jay’s music began. He was greeted with a deafening roar of approval. “Feel it coming in the air,” Rihanna’s recorded voice from “Run This Town” blasted through the arena. Jay rose from underneath the stage, rolling his head around his shoulders like a young Mike Tyson getting ready for a prize fight. Jay, like Tyson in the ’80s knows he’s a dominant force in any ring, any arena, but especially at the Garden, he’s unstoppable. Jay then brought out Memphis Bleek and told his former neighbor in the Marcy Projects he wanted him to see something special. Like a wizard, Jigga waved his hand around the arena and made fans scream. “I wanna be careful how I phrase this, because it’s one of my heroes,” Jay said. “Madison Square Garden used to be Run’s House. But ‘Run’s House’ is now on MTV. Madison Square Garden is now ‘The House That Hov Built.’ ” His assertion was backed up with triumphant showings of “On to the Next One,” “U Don’t Know,” “99 Problems” and “Show Me What You Got.” “Empire State of Mind” felt special in the Garden. Jay’s performance of the record filled the arena with hometown pride. It’s the closest feeling the crowd at the Garden will get to the Knicks winning the championship … at least until LeBron James signs with the team next year (fingers crossed). James was in attendance, along with his Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Shaquille O’Neal, Rick Ross, Gwyneth Paltrow, Diddy and Cash Money Records CEO the Birdman. Birdman was on hand to cheer on his “son” Lil Wayne. Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj had the show-stealing moment as part of Young Jeezy’s set. The Snowman also brought out Akon. Jeezy came out about 40 minutes into Jay’s show, and the two did “Real as It Gets” from Blueprint 3. After handing Jeezy the keys to MSG for a while, Jay came back and traded rhymes with his Southern partner on the remixes of “Put On” and “My President.” Trey Songz came out with Jay as well to help out on “Heart of the City” and “Already Home.” The Blueprint 3 Tour stopped with an “overtime” session that saw Jay take his fans back as far as the Reasonable Doubt days with “Ain’t No N—a” and “Can I Live.” “Am I going too far back? This moment is only for us,” he added of himself and fans of his first LP. Hov then brought it up a few years for “Big Pimpin’,” with Jay urging everyone to wave whatever they had from rags to bandanas to hats in the air, Carnivale-style. “I don’t take it for granted,” Jay said of the fan love. “I appreciate everyone in the building tonight. Thank you, and I hope we return the love tenfold. The legendary MC then asked to do one more record: “Encore.” Hov is going to be in the Tri-State Area with a few shows during these next two weeks. He plays Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel as well as the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island next week. Lindsay Lohan Admits, Decries, Blames Father For Coke Whore Tendencies

Lindsay Lohan has come clean. Mostly. The troubled star recently told The Sun (UK) all about her past cocaine use , claiming her estranged drug addict father got her curious about the stuff. “I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad,” she said. “I was terrified, but I tried it. I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like.” Police found Lohan, now 23, to be in possession of cocaine in two separate DUI incidents in 2007. She has been to rehab three times and is real thin. “It’s not something I ever want to do again,” she says of cocaine binging. “It made me feel like sh!t. It became uninteresting to me. I’m hyper anyway and I have that kind of personality so I don’t need something like that.” A NEW LEAF : Our little girl is so much more grown up and mature. In 2007, after her father, Michael Lohan, began speaking negatively about her in the press, Lohan says she hit “rock bottom.” Sure, give or take a year. That’s when Lindsay Lohan claims that she began rampantly abusing “alcohol, cocaine and other mind-altering substances” to mask her many problems. “There was a point when I didn’t know how to say ‘No’ and was trying to please everyone. I was doing pop and making films. I thought I could go out, have fun, then go on set and record. I ran myself down and lost track of who I was.” While she still drinks – “I know my limits,” she dubiously claims – she says often “there’s no reason to because I don’t want to feel like sh!t in the morning.” This is true, especially when one actually has a job. 2006 : The downward spiral commences . Through it all, the alleged celebrity hoarder claims she’s in a better place now, and that she’s learned from her mistakes – some of which terrify her still. She still cringes when looking back on one night when she took the sleeping aid Ambien and climbed into a bathtub. Don’t try that one at home, kids! “I’d run a bath and fallen asleep on the floor and the bath overflowed,” she recalls. “When I woke up, I was so scared. I called my therapist and said, ‘Can I just go somewhere for a month?'” she says. “‘I’m around bad people and I need to take care of myself.'” “I was terrified, so I put myself in.” She’s come so far since then … oh, wait …

Jay-Z Says He’s Got A ‘Crazy Record’ For Next LP

Hov says he has no release date in mind for his next LP, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Jay-Z Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Apologies for being a little late with Mixtape Daily: We’re fresh off the plane from NBA All-Star Weekend. We couldn’t script the problems we had getting to Dallas (with all the flight cancellations), but we made it and D-Town was a movie. Big up to Play N Skillz for rolling out the red carpet and a special thanks to Ahyiana Deldridge and the entire NBA PR team for all the help and access (we were on the court with all the NBA All-Stars!). Normally, on Tuesdays Mixtape features “Don’t Sleep,” but we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming for a special message from Jigga. During the red carpet for his and LeBron James’ “Two Kings Dinner and Afterparty,” presented by Bing and Sprite, we got Jay-Z to tell us a little bit about his new LP. However, don’t expect it any time soon. Just like last year when we asked him about Blueprint 3, Hov said he doesn’t have a release date in mind. (Back in September, he told MTV News that his next album will be the “most experimental” he’s ever made.) “I don’t know,” he said on Saturday when asked about a release date for his next LP. “I didn’t really start yet. I got a couple of scraps and I got a couple of ideas. I didn’t really go into the studio yet. I’ve been toying with ideas and direction and things like that. “I got one crazy record,” he added. “To be honest with you, it’s crazy. I got one and we’ll build from there. Whether it comes out this year or next year, it depends on the music and how it’s coming out. I don’t really have any dates.” In the past few months, we’ve seen Jay perform at the World Series , open up the Super Bowl with a performance video, team up with Rihanna and members of U2 for the Haiti benefit song “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour),” and during NBA All-Star weekend, he definitely had one of the biggest and anticipated parties. This weekend he starts another leg of his Blueprint 3 tour and this summer he headlines the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. Seemingly Jay is everywhere, and it’s all serving as a muse for the music. “The world is inspiring me,” he said. “I get out and see the world and more of the world is accepting of our music and what we do. I’m just inspired by the whole thing and how big hip-hop can be and how much of a phenomenon it is. You couldn’t imagine hip-hop being at the World Series. I touched the championship trophy before A-Rod and the Vince Lombardi trophy before the Saints. You couldn’t imagine that happening 10 years ago. How about five years ago? I’m saying that to say that the journey hip-hop has taken and we are right now, there’s no imitation to it … still. Still!” The Heat This Week: DJ Kay Slay’s More Than Just a DJ Chris Brown’s In My Zone Statik Selektah’s 100 Proof CyHi Da Prynce’s Prynce of Jacks Related Artists Jay-Z
