Via NYDailyNews An openly gay Louisiana honor student will be allowed to wear a tuxedo to her prom after her school backed off its controversial policy Tuesday following national backlash. Claudetteia Love, 17, refused to attend Carroll High School’s formal gala later this month after she was barred from donning a suit and was told to wear a dress instead. “Girls wear dresses and boys wear tuxes, and that’s the way it is,” Principal Patrick Taylor reportedly told Love’s mother, Geraldine Jackson, while explaining his decision. School officials, who initially cited the Monroe public school’s dress code, are now reversing their decision, which gay rights activists called discrimination against Love’s sexual orientation. “Forbidding girls from wearing a tuxedo to the prom would have served no purpose other than to reinforce the worst sorts of harmful stereotypes and censor a core part of Claudetteia’s identity,” said Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, which is representing the teen. “The school is doing the right thing by supporting its students and teaching them the value of respect and acceptance of one another’s differences,” Kendell said. Says Claudetteia: “Now that I can go in my tuxedo, I am looking forward to celebrating the end of my senior year with my friends and classmates at the prom, like any other student,” the senior said. “The outpouring of support has been incredible and inspiring. It is a source of strength that I will keep with me as I move on the next phase of my education and life beyond high school.” It’s pretty pathetic that there even had to be a conversation about this in 2015. Father And Seven Children Pass Away In Carbon Monoxide Leak Truly sad story. A Maryland father attempting to provide heat for his family after the electricity in their home had been shut off passed away along with all seven of his children after the in-home generator he was using malfunctioned, sending fatal carbon monoxide fumes coursing through the house. Via DailyMail : A Maryland father and his seven children were discovered dead Monday afternoon from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator they were using after the power company had cut off their electricity, according to relatives. The tragic incident took place in Princess Anne – a community of 3,260 in Somerset County, Maryland. Princess Anne police stated in a press release to Daily Mail Online that no foul play was suspected in the deaths. Officers who responded to the home in the 30500 block of Antioch Avenue entered the residence and found the eight family members dead inside. Bonnie and Lloyd Edwards, encountered outside the home by a reporter from The Associated Press, identified themselves as the mother and stepfather of Rodney Todd, 36, whom they identified as the adult who died. They said Todd had seven children, including five girls and two boys. Lloyd Edwards revealed that Delmarva Power had cut off the electricity to the house because of an outstanding bill. Edwards said, ‘to keep his seven children warm, [Todd] bought a generator. It went out and the carbon monoxide consumed them.’ Truly tragic story. However…they’re all so fed up with Mathew Knowles that none of them want to give him a dime of money from the deal — a major complication since his name is irrevocably tied to the group. None of the members of Destiny’s Child want any involvement with Mathew, who once managed each of their individual careers as well as the group. Kelly was first to fire him in 2009, Michelle followed in 2010 and Beyoncé finally nixed all dealings with her dad after accusations of stealing money from her in 2011. “That it was claimed Mathew stole money from Beyoncé and then he sued to prove that he didn’t was bad enough. But all of the extramarital affairs and children outside the marriage just made it so that Beyoncé doesn’t have anything to do with her dad at all,” the source explained. The trio’s unwillingness to deal with Mathew is why they keep putting off a Destiny’s Child reunion album and tour. Their 2005 Destiny Fulfilled tour grossed approximately $70.8 million in the U.S. alone and according to Billboard it was the highest-grossing tour for either a pop or R&B band since TLC’s FanMail Tour. Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle wanted to record a 10-year follow-up CD and launch a tour. They know both the album and tour could a huge seller and break tour records. “The problem is they can’t figure out how to nix Mathew from the deal. They all want more than anything to give the fans one last run of the group, especially since they all have their own individual success, but don’t want to deal with Mathew,” the source explained. It’s unlikely that Mathew would allow the women to cut any deals without him. Yeah, we guess not — not with all those fresh mouths to feed and his well-documented money troubles. Rachel Roy Says Damon Dash Hasn’t Made Regular Child Support Payments Despite Earning $2.3 Million Damon Dash hasn’t paid his ex-wife Rachel Roy child support regularly in nearly a year, even though he’s made more than $2 million, Bossip has learned. Roy said in court papers that Dash owes her nearly $42,000 in back child support. “The defendant has put his children in a very difficult position by refusing to pay child support,” Roy said in a sworn affidavit filed in L.A. County Superior Court. “I am the sole support for the two children of the marriage, and they depend on the child support the court has ordered the defendant to pay.” The fashion designer made the shocking claims in a court filing for out-of-state custody of the former couple’s two girls, Ava, 15, and Tallulah, 8. Dash was supposed to pay Roy $6,000 a month in child support as part of the terms of their 2009 divorce settlement, as well as pay for their daughters private school and maintain their two condos in Downtown Manhattan. But Roy said in the affidavit that although Dash made $2.3 million from the sale of the Rachel Roy IP company, Dash is always late in paying the child support as well as one daughter’s school and camp fees. “I have been late paying my bills several times due to the defendants refusal to timely pay his support allegations.” The divorce agreement required Dash to keep the finances in order on their two Manhattan apartments. But Roy found out both were in foreclosure, and Roy paid the condo boards more than $280,000 to stop them from both getting sued. Dash promised Roy to repay the money, but she said he’s only paid $30,000 so far. The couple married in 2004 and split after five years. Meanwhile, Dash has spent the past month ranting against Roy on social media, accusing her of keeping the girls away from him and using them as bargaining chips. “There is a very serious problem in that the defendant seems to feel that agreements and court orders do not require his compliance,” Roy said in the affidavit. “He seems to feel that he can add new conditions and change rules at a whim, and there is no higher authority than him.”
