Justin Bieber Says ‘Girlfriends Are Trouble’

Pop star admits he doesn’t have much time for dating right now. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber at the VMAs on Sunday Photo: Rachel Goldner/ MTV News Now that Justin Bieber properly took over the VMAs , lined up a bunch of projects and even announced the release date for his forthcoming 3-D movie , one might think he would want to find that special someone to share his days with. But just moments after winning his Best New Artist VMA on Sunday, the 16-year-old megastar explained that he’s too busy for love right now. “I mean, girlfriends are trouble at this age,” he explained to MTV News. “Girls are fun to hang out with but, like, having that one steady girl … we’re constantly traveling and one girl’s not gonna really [work]. You can’t really have one girl. I don’t really have any crushes at the moment.” With so much going on in his life, the “U Smile” singer is just trying to balance his career and personal life. “Right now, the best thing is [that we’re] just teenagers having fun doing what we love,” he explained. “We’re just staying ourselves and remaining humble.” With his “Never Say Never” collaborator Jaden Smith by his side, Bieber revealed that he and the Smith family may work together again in the future, with Bieber possibly working with Will Smith on his next project. However, Bieber kept the details sparse, saying, “We’re trying to figure something out.” In addition to trying to re-team with pal Jaden and family, Bieber said that for his next album, he wants to work with his friend and fellow Canadian Drake. “[It’ll] probably [come out] fourth quarter next year,” he said. “Drake is gonna be on that album. I’m not sure [who else]. I’m gonna ask him if he can get [Lil] Wayne on there.” The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. CBS’s Smith Questions ‘Radical Islam’ Being America’s Enemy

In an interview with controversial Florida Pastor Terry Jones on Wednesday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith doubted whether or not Muslim extremism was really a threat: “Would you regard radical Islam, then, as the enemy?” While Jones’ plan to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 has been rightfully condemned as offensive and an unnecessary provocation, Smith’s response of questioning the danger of  Islamic radicalism all together denies the ideological motivation of America’s enemies. After Jones described receiving threats over his planned event, Smith responded by quoting scripture: “…you’re a student of the New testament, I’m sure. Did not Jesus say you’re to love your enemy?” After Jones continued to defend the burning of the Muslim religious text, Smith again cited the Bible: “But there are at least two different times in Matthew and Luke where Jesus is quite, quite clear about loving – about loving your enemy.” Concluding the interview, Smith commented: “Well, I know you say you’ve been praying about it. And I hope that you find the wisdom in order to do the right thing, as the next couple of days unfold.” In the past, Smith has not been so quick to tout Christian theology. On the September 6, 2005 Early Show , Smith fretted over Christian charities forcing religion on victims of Hurricane Katrina in an interview with Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren: “…if I’m a family, am, do I need to be concerned that I’m going to go live with a church family, are they going to proselytize me, are they going to say, ‘you better come to church with me or else, I’m, you know, you’re not going to get your breakfast this morning’?” On Tuesday, Smith lumped opposition of the Ground Zero mosque in with Jones: “…you’ve heard about…the controversy near Ground Zero…the proposed building of an Islamic cultural center there. And there have been all kinds of people protesting this and one of them is a preacher from down in Florida, who has really been on the march on this. And he has promised to burn a Koran on the anniversary – on the 9/11 anniversary.” During the Wednesday interview, footage rolled of people protesting the mosque in New York City while Jones discussed burning the Koran.    Here is a full transcript of Smith’s September 8 interview with Jones: 7:00AM ET TEASE: HARRY SMITH: Koran controversy. A Florida minister’s plans to burn the holy book condemned by the U.S. government and others. But Pastor Terry Jones insists he will set fire to the Koran on September 11th. We’ll talk to the man at the center of the controversy.      7:07AM ET SEGMENT: HARRY SMITH: This morning a Florida minister refuses to back down in the face of worldwide outrage. The Reverend Terry Jones insists he will burn a Koran this Saturday, the ninth anniversary of 9/11. We’re going to talk to him in a moment. But first, CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella has the latest. KELLY COBIELLA: From his small office in Gainesville, Florida, Pastor Terry Jones hears the worldwide protests building against him. Muslims in Kabul, Afghanistan, are burning him in effigy. Fellow evangelical Christians are denouncing him. RICHARD CIZIK [REVEREND, NEW EVANGELICAL PARTNERSHIP FOR THE COMMON GOOD]: You bring dishonor to the name of Jesus Christ. [ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Koran Controversy; Pastor’s Burning Plan Comes Under Attack] COBIELLA: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton singled out Jones and his plan to burn 100 copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 at a Washington dinner to observe Ramadan. HILLARY CLINTON: I am heartened by the clear, unequivocal condemnation of this disrespectful, disgraceful act. COBIELLA: Yet despite mounting pressure, this small town pastor will not budge. Jones, who keeps a gun at his side because of death threats, insists he is answering a religious calling. TERRY JONES [PASTOR, DOVE WORLD OUTREACH CENTER]: We are speaking to radical Islam, saying we don’t want them, their influence, and their Sharia law. COBIELLA: Jones says the only thing that will change his plans is a message from God. Kelly Cobiella, CBS News, Gainesville, Florida. SMITH: And joining us now from his church in Gainesville, Florida, is Pastor Terry Jones. Pastor Jones, good morning. JONES: Yeah, good morning. SMITH: So, we’ve got the White House, you have the Secretary of State, you have General Petraeus, you’ve got the VFW, among many others, saying, ‘please don’t do this.’ Are you still determined to do it? JONES: As of right now, we feel that this message is that important. We are still determined to do it, yes. SMITH: Yeah. And the message being what, exactly? JONES: Well, the message to Islam is actually the message geared towards radical Islam. We see its influence around the world. We are sending a message to them that we don’t want them to do as they appear to be doing in Europe. They appear to begin as they grow in numbers, to push their agenda, to push Sharia law. What we are saying to them is that if they’re in America they need to respect, honor, and obey our Constitution and not slowly try to push their agenda upon us. [FOOTAGE OF GROUND ZERO MOSQUE PROTEST] SMITH: Right. Would you regard, then, as radical Islam as – as your enemy? JONES: I didn’t quite understand you. Sorry. SMITH: Would you regard radical Islam, then, as the enemy?                          JONES: Oh, I think definitely. Definitely radical Islam is an enemy. I think there’s also the question of how – I think sometimes we don’t realize that this radical element of Islam goes deeper into the Muslim community than what we actually want to admit. To give you a small example, we had yesterday a Muslim lady came onto our property. I mean, we’re here in America. We’re in Gainesville, Florida. We’re in a little subdivision. And a Muslim lady comes on to our property and threatens us. She says, ‘if you do not stop this, there is a wrath, there is a judgment, there is a judgment coming upon you that you cannot handle.’ SMITH: Let me ask you- JONES: That is in Gainesville, Florida. SMITH: I understand. JONES: And we asked the lady, is this a threat? And she says yes. SMITH: Let me ask you this – you’re a student of the New testament, I’m sure. Did not Jesus say you’re to love your enemy? JONES: Yes, definitely. SMITH: Right. JONES: And I believe that this approach is not the normal approach, but I believe this approach is at this particular time in history very necessary. We also see times in the Bible where Jesus also got very upset. SMITH: We understand. JONES: Jesus went into the temple and threw all the money changers out. We feel this is definitely an exception. SMITH: But there are at least two different times in Matthew and Luke where Jesus is quite, quite clear about loving – about loving your enemy. JONES: Right. And that’s exactly what we do. With this action here, this action here itself is not – is not supposed to be an act of love. We agree that generally that’s what we do. We would reach out to Muslims in other ways. SMITH: Right. JONES: This particular act is actually an act of warning radical Islam. It’s a different type of a thing. SMITH: Well, I know you say you’ve been praying about it. And I hope that you find the wisdom in order to do the right thing, as the next couple of days unfold. Pastor Terry Jones, thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us. JONES: Uh-huh. Thank you.

Disturbed Knock Katy Perry From Billboard #1 Slot

Eminem’s Recovery holds at #3. By Gil Kaufman Disturbed’s “Asylum” Photo: Warner Music Group It was a short trip to the top for Katy Perry . Despite locking down not one but two of the summer’s biggest smashes with “California Gurls” and the title track to her Teenage Dream album, Perry lost her #1 slot on the Billboard 200 after just one week, as veteran Chicago metal act Disturbed wrangle their fourth #1 debut in a row with Asylum . The album moved 179,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. They’re followed by the 35th edition of the Now! series at #2 (105,000), with Eminem holding pat at the #3 slot with Recovery, which moved another 93,000, putting his smash return to form one week away from passing the 2.5 million mark. Other newcomers in the top 10 include R&B singer Lyfe Jennings , who hit #6 with I Still Believe (36,000), the Goo Goo Dolls with Something for the Rest of Us (#7, 34,000) and classic-rock sister duo Heart , whose Red Velvet Car crashes in at #10 on sales of 27,000. In an overall weak sales period, the rest of the top 10 include Perry at #4 (88,000, down 54 percent), Fantasia , Back to Me (#5, 40,000, down 66 percent from week one), Justin Bieber , My World 2.0 (#8, 31,000) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (#9, 28,000). After debuting at #4, Usher ‘s Versus drops to #13 as sales were cut in half to 22,000, while the Arcade Fire hold mostly steady with The Suburbs, which ticks up two spots to #14 (21,000) as the Canadian indie heroes steam toward 300,000 sold in just over a month. Academy Award-winning country songwriter Ryan Bingham debuts at #19 with Junky Star (17,000), while alt metal rockers Papa Roach hit #23 (16,000) with their first live album, Time for Annihilation … On the Record and On the Road, which also contains five new studio tracks. As it turns out, there was plenty of competition for Fabolous , whose There Is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service could only muster a #32 debut (12,000), while real-life indie couple Jenny and Johnny come in at #37 with their debut, I’m Having Fun Now (10,000). Perry’s run at the top of the iTunes album charts was also a quick one, as Disturbed topple her there as well, pushing the pop tart down to #2, followed by Eminem, Goo Goo Dolls, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons ‘ Sigh No More , the Camp Rock soundtrack, the Weepies ‘ Be My Thrill , Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs ‘ God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise and Bingham. Though iTunes does not release detailed sales data, it’s clear Perry still has some singles love, as “Teenage Dream” continues its run atop the iTunes singles chart, followed by the same, slightly shuffled cast of characters including Bruno Mars (“Just the Way You Are”), Taio Cruz (“Dynamite”), Eminem (“Love the Way You Lie”), Usher (“DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love”), Enrique Iglesias (“I Like It”), Nelly (“Just a Dream”), Ke$ha (“Take It Off”), Taylor Swift (“Mine”) and B.o.B (“Magic”). Things should be pretty tame at the top next week, as new albums by Stone Sour , Interpol and Anberlin jockey for position with the latest from singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles . Willow Smith Makes Music Debut With ‘Whip My Hair’

Will and Jada Pinkett’s fashion-forward 9-year-old is earning Rihanna comparisons. By Daniela Capistrano Willow Smith (file) Photo: Jun Sato/WireImage/Getty Images If the early enthusiasm is to be believed, Rihanna may have a threat in 9-year-old Willow Smith. On Tuesday, the pint-size daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith leaked her first single, “Whip My Hair,” setting music blogs abuzz with comparisons to the Barbadian R&B star. With a crazy beat that works on the schoolyard and the dance floor, Willow tells the ladies to snap their heads “back and forth” and whip that hair like a helicopter. Solange Knowles has co-signed on the track, tweeting , “Willow Smith make me wanna whip some haiiirrr in this house. Ummm kill em girl. Kill em!” Brandy jumped onboard too. “OK, these lil Smith kids are AMAZING!!” the singer tweeted . “I whip my hair back and forth… Ms Willow is not to be played with!!” Encouraged by her talented parents, Willow is embarking on a music career when many of her peers are simply worrying about third grade homework. She made her acting debut at the age of 6, starring alongside her father in 2007’s “I Am Legend.” Her credits also include a role in “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” and voice-over work for the animated feature “Madagascar 2.” Already building a fanbase with her eclectic red-carpet fashion, Willow tagged along with big brother Jaden to Justin Bieber ‘s concert at Madison Square Garden last week. Jaden was there to rap alongside Bieber on their “Karate Kid” track “Never Say Never.” But Willow is also drawing the attention of Bieber’s camp. On Tuesday, Justin’s video director Alfredo Flores tweeted , “WHAT!!??! Willow Smith just KILLED “Whip My Hair”… Rihanna, Keri, Ciara, Ashanti – please be warned.” With rumors circulating that Willow will sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation music label and start her own clothing line, she might soon be overshadowing her big brother, or even her parents. Jada, who has fronted her own metal band, told Ambassador magazine back in June that Willow is working on an album that will be released soon. What do you think of Willow Smith’s new song? Vienna Girardi Sex Emails to Lee Smith: Revealed, Scandalous, Far From Intelligent

A tearful Vienna Girardi claimed in this week’s explosive interview on The Bachelorette that she was loyal to that stiff Jake Pavelka until the bitter end. Actor Gregory Michael said he made out with her before the breakup, though, and now a bunch of emails she allegedly wrote to her ex have surfaced. Emails full of sexual innuendo … and spelling errors. Lee Smith, one of many ex-boyfriends in the wild, crazy life of Vienna Girardi, has apparently been in contact with her since her stint on The Bachelor . Vienna’s “bubbie” (whatever the hell that means) released what he says is a June 14-16 email chain – i.e. a week before the Breakup of the Century . Excerpts from the unintentionally hilarious exchange: We think this is Lee Smith, the ex-boyfriend of Vienna Girardi in question. We’re not positive, however. The girl kind of got around. Like a record, one could say . Lee Smith : “I’m here again feeling a oh so fimilar [sic] feeling … I think it is a mixture of antisapation [sic] or mabey [sic] it’s me just missin you either way…” Vienna Girardi : “You are my life. I love you so much and can’t wait to be in your arms again.” Lee Smith : “Don’t u miss touching all the time are [sic] long baths …” Vienna Girardi : “I do miss all that. I love you so much bubbie. I want our life back.” Lee Smith : “u are all I want!!!! I want to sex u up so bad baby!” Gosh, who wouldn’t want to sex that up … well, besides that prude Jake. Interestingly, contrary to her claim that Playboy made up the rumor of a Vienna Girardi nude photo spread, her last email says, “I may be doing playboy this weekend … Xoxo.” A source close to Vienna says she wasn’t the author of these gems obtained by TMZ, and thinks someone “hacked her email.” LOL, who’s the source, Lindsay Lohan?

For rent in China: White people

Beijing, China (CNN) — In China, white people can be rented. For a day, a weekend, a week, up to even a month or two, Chinese companies are willing to pay high prices for fair-faced foreigners to join them as fake employees or business partners. Some call it “White Guy Window Dressing.” To others, it's known as the “White Guy in a Tie” events, “The Token White Guy Gig,” or, simply, a “Face Job.” And it is, essentially, all about the age-old Chinese concept of face. To have a few foreigners hanging around means a company has prestige, money and the increasingly crucial connections — real or not — to businesses abroad. “Face, we say in China, is more important than life itself,” said Zhang Haihua, author of “Think Like Chinese.” “Because Western countries are so developed, people think they are more well off, so people think that if a company can hire foreigners, it must have a lot of money and have very important connections overseas. So when they really want to impress someone, they may roll out a foreigner.” Or rent one. Last year, Jonathan Zatkin, an American actor who lives in Beijing, posed as the vice president of an Italian jewelry company that had, allegedly, been in a partnership with a Chinese jewelry chain for a decade. When is being foreign a career advantage? Zatkin was paid 2,000 yuan (about $300) to fly, along with a couple of Russian models, to a small city in the central province of Henan where he delivered a speech for the grand opening ceremony of a jewelry store there. “I was up on stage with the mayor of the town, and I made a speech about how wonderful it was to work with the company for 10 years and how we were so proud of all of the work they had done for us in China,” Zatkin said. “They put up a big bandstand and the whole town was there and some other local muckety-mucks.” The requirements for these jobs are simple. 1. Be white. 2. Do not speak any Chinese, or really speak at all, unless asked. 3. Pretend like you just got off of an airplane yesterday. Those who go for such gigs tend to be unemployed actors or models, part-time English teachers or other expats looking to earn a few extra bucks. Often they are jobs at a second- or third-tier city, where the presence of pale-faced foreigners is needed to impress local officials, secure a contract or simply to fulfill a claim of being international. “Occasionally companies want a foreign face to go to meetings and conferences or to go to dinners and lunches and smile at the clients and shake people's hands,” read an ad posted by a company called Rent A Laowai (Chinese for “foreigner”) on the online classified site thebeijinger.com. It continued: “There are job opportunities for girls who are pretty and for men who can look good in a suit.” People like Brad Smith. When Smith — the nom de plume of the Beijing-based American actor — answered CNN's phone call on a recent morning, he was standing outside a meeting room at a Ramada Inn in Hangzhou, a city about 100 miles outside of Shanghai. Today's job: Pretend to be an architect from New York and give design plans for a new museum to local officials. “They have not told me what my name is today. I think it is Lawrence or something,” said Smith — unlike some jobs, no fake business cards were given to hand out. Earlier that morning he went over his script with his Chinese “business partners” at a Kentucky Fried Chicken. “It says, 'Good morning distinguished leaders. It is my privilege to participate in this program',” said Smith, who asked that his real name not be used for fear it could jeopardize future jobs. If Smith is asked a question, he is told to pretend to answer as his “translator” pretends to understand. Occasionally, these jobs can go awry. Smith said 18 months ago Beijing police showed up at his apartment after a financial company he worked at for a couple of months in Xi'an, a city in western China, allegedly swindled millions of yuan out of clients. “That company said I was the guy in charge,” he said. “I didn't even remember the company's name. After that, I decided I was never going to use my passport again with these fake companies. The small gigs are much less dangerous.” Sometimes companies will hire Caucasians simply to sit in the office a few hours a day near the window where clients and customers can see them. White women are also a hot commodity, sometimes to pose as phony foreign girlfriends, or, in the case of Vicky Mohieddeen, to pretend to be an oil tycoon. Mohieddeen, who is Scottish, took a job in 2008 to attend what she describes as some sort of “oil drilling conference” in Shandong province for 300 yuan ($44). Several busloads of foreigners, with nationalities ranging from Pakistani to Nigerian, were trucked to the event, she said. They were greeted by brass bands and feted with a sumptuous dinner. “I was like, 'Yeah, we have a lot of oil in Scotland.' I didn't know what to say. It was a bit nerve-racking. We were guests of honor of the vice mayor. We were put in a nice hotel. It was quite fancy.” For Mohieddeen, who had just arrived in Beijing at the time, the experience, albeit bizarre, was an introduction to a side of China most foreigners will never see. “It is part of what China is all about, you know,” Mohieddeen said. “There is quite an elaborate fantasy world going on here where if everyone buys into it, it does not matter if it is the truth. Those kinds of experiences give me a fuller understanding of the way the culture works.” added by: eden49

It May Be Time For Kevin Smith’s Jorts Intervention

Kevin Smith attended the premiere of Eclipse last night with his daughter, dressed like he usually is, but even more so. While we’re not style critics here at Movieline, and we just shrugged at Smith’s shirt (which was potentially stolen from a college freshman who is so psyched that he can now wear clothes with cuss words on them), we feel it is necessary to address the jorts, once and for all.
