Slipknot Reveal Donnie Steele To Replace Deceased Bassist Paul Gray

‘We thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family,’ band says of returning former band mate. By Shawn Adler Slipknot Hard rock super group Slipknot have asked former member Donnie Steele to replace Paul Gray on bass for their upcoming 2011 shows, according to a statement on the band’s website . The 38-year-old Gray, who had been with the band since their inception, died last year (May 24, 2010) from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl. “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family,” the band wrote. “Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.” Known for their ostentatious performances and aggressive musical edge, the mask-wearing members of the Grammy winning band displayed a different side in an emotional press conference the day after Gray was found dead in an Iowa hotel room, remembering their friend and band mate as “the essence of the band Slipknot,” percussionist Shawn Crahan recalled. “Paul was there from the very, very beginning, and none of us would be on the path that we’re on now in life or have the sorts of life that we have without him,” he added. ” Paul loved the fans . He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He’s going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him.” Among other performances, the band will be performing at the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 21. ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ Tops Friday Box Office

Alien invasion flick bests ‘Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Rango’ to claim top spot, while animated ‘Mars Needs Moms’ tanks. By Shawn Adler Michelle Rodriguez in “Battle: Los Angeles” Photo: Sony Pictures It showcases an epic battle between aliens and humans, but it turns out that the biggest winner of the weekend isn’t going to be Aaron Eckhart or the extra-terrestrials he faces in “Battle: Los Angeles,” but an entirely different, third combatant: the film itself. Led by an all-star cast headlined by the “Thank You For Smoking” star, “Battle: Los Angeles” topped all comers at the Friday night box office with an estimated $13.5 million from 3,417 theaters. The story of a surprise war waged by aliens for control of Earth, the flick should eek out approximately $40 for the weekend and another number one opening for the star of “The Dark Knight” in his first return to big budget action. The secret to the film’s success? Not treating an alien invasion movie like an alien invasion movie, director Jonathan Liebesman told MTV News . “This is a more down and dirty alien movie,” Liebesman said. “This is like if [‘Bourne Supremacy’ director] Paul Greengrass got a camera, saw some aliens, and shot it from the point of view of a platoon. It’s literally like ‘Black Hawk Down,’ if there were aliens in there. Like Iraqi war footage, but with aliens running around.” You’d be forgiven, meanwhile, for saying of the second place film, “My, what a big gross you have,” as the Brothers Grimm by way of Stephanie Meyer revisionist fairy tale “Red Riding Hood” scared up $5.7 million to claw its way near the top. The Catherine Hardwick directed and Amanda Seyfried starring film may seem to be similar to that little Kristen Stewart movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s just “Twilight” with a cape, Seyfried told MTV. “It’s a bummer that that’s what’s happening,” Seyfried told us . “I mean, it does surround a girl coming of age in a love triangle, but that’s a lot of movies. The truth is, it’s an entirely different story.” In third place, last weekend’s winner “Rango” managed a very healthy $5.5 million. The Johnny Depp starring flick about a chameleon who finds himself leading a small desert town as sheriff should bring its total to approximately $70 million by weekend’s close. In fourth place, “The Adjustment Bureau” starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt managed a $3.4 million Friday. The biggest disappointment of the week was “Mars Needs Moms,” the newest animated film from Disney. Using motion capture technology and based on a story from Pulitzer Prize winner Berkeley Breathed, the reportedly expensive film managed just $1.8 million Friday and a fifth place finish. Among other films, “Beastly” scored $1.6 million for a sixth place finish, while “Just Go With It” managed an eighth place finish and $1.2 million. The Adam Sandler led comedy should pass $100 million sometime early next week. Rounding out the rest of the top ten, “Hall Pass” earned $1.5 million to come in seventh, “The King’s Speech” grabbed $1 million to finish ninth, and “Unknown” ran away with $975,000 to land in tenth.

Selena Gomez Topless Photo Is A Fake

Sources close to the Disney star are reportedly denying the photo’s credibility. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images As a photo allegedly showing Selena Gomez topless hit the Internet, she appeared to have fallen prey, like other teen starlets, to a leaked text. But according to TMZ , the photo is a fake. The website reported on Wednesday (January 19) that sources close to Gomez says she and her camp are angry that someone is trying to ruin the Disney star’s reputation by Photoshopping a topless photo of her. The source added that lawyers for Gomez plan to take immediate action, sending out a cease-and-desist letter to be followed by a lawsuit. In the photo, alleged to be of Gomez with shorter hair, she’s seen looking away from the camera standing in a bathroom with no shirt on, her body on full display. A rep for the star had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time, however, a rep for the actress told the website Hollyscoop.com that the image was a fake. These days, Gomez, who’s rumored to be dating Justin Bieber, is a target of relationship gossip. And though neither has confirmed they are an item, the pair were spotted getting cozy on vacation in St. Lucia over the holidays. And the last few months have been an interesting time for Disney starlets, some of whom have seen their personal lives become tabloid fodder. Demi Lovato made headlines late last fall when she left the Jonas Brothers’ tour to seek treatment for personal issues. Fellow teen queen Miley Cyrus also caused a stir when a video of her smoking from a bong hit the Internet. Related Artists Selena Gomez
