‘The Help’ Stars Talk Tearjerkers At MTV’s Sneak Peek Week

Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard open up about book-turned-movie during Q&A session. By Jocelyn Vena Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard Photo: MTV News WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard spoke to a packed room at the Pacific Design Center on Thursday night (June 2) for the latest installment in MTV’s Sneak Peek Week, opening up about retro tearjerker “The Help,” which screened to an excited crowd shortly before the chat. Since the book-turned-film is certain emotional, we asked its leading ladies if they ever reach for the tissues in the movie theater. “Oh, I cry!” Emma Stone admitted. “It’s shocking I’m not crying right now. I cried at ‘Air Bud.’ I cried at ‘Spice World.’ ” But what about when she watches her own movies? “That’s crying out of terror and self-loathing,” she joked. All joking aside, Stone is really proud of “The Help” and “felt it reflected the book.” “When you read the book, you have a vision of those characters too,” she said. “I definitely understand being protective of the material.” “The Help” is the film adaptation of the best-selling novel set in the South during the civil-rights movement. It stars Stone, Howard and Viola Davis and focuses on the bonds formed in the face of adversity. Stone is the flick’s protagonist, Skeeter, who works to make a change through writing a book about the hardships felt by minorities in the South during this pivotal time in history. “She’s a bit of a modern woman,” Stone said of her character. “When I was younger, I thought I wanted to be a writer. She’s curious about people and she’s questioning her life.” Howard, meanwhile, plays the bigoted Hilly, and the actress said she latched onto something very specific about the character to make her relatable. “The thing I eventually grabbed onto was her ignorance,” Howard explained. “Once I understood, I then could attempt to play that character.” Stone used her costumes to help her get into character. “The accent is always a major concern, and then, of course, knowing how to be Southern, there’s a lot of challenges,” Stone said. “This is the first time I felt more in character after putting on the wardrobe. It was wonderful to have that.” Stick with MTV News all week as we gear up for Sunday’s Movie Awards with a Sneak Peek Week screening and live-stream Q&A session every night this week. The is a perfect example. This year’s nominees run the gamut from cringe-worthy and painful moments to larger-than-life concert experiences, amazing special effects and being covered in poo. The nominees are: Natalie Portman for her hangnail moment in “Black Swan,” Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page for the dream-within-a-dream “caf

Robert Pattinson Should Host ‘SNL,’ Jason Sudeikis Says

‘We got you, buddy,’ MTV Movie Awards host promises. ‘You’ll be fine.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Sudeikis Photo: MTV News Fans would love to see MTV Movie Award nominee and “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson take a stab at hosting “Saturday Night Live.” Well, maybe when “SNL” castmember Jason Sudeikis hosts the Movie Awards this Sunday, he can convince the British heartthrob to come on the show next season. “I think anybody should host [‘SNL’] if it’s something they want to do. Just give it a shot!” Sudeikis told MTV News just steps away from the Gibson Amphitheatre, where the 2011 MTV Movie Awards will be taking place Sunday. “We’re certainly a safe place, a safe haven.” Sudeikis even had some encouraging words for the potential host: “We got you, buddy. You’ll be fine. Hold on to me tightly. We’ll take you through the forest of ‘SNL.’ ” As far as he can remember, Sudeikis has yet to introduce himself to Pattinson. Though he might have met him already — unless that person was actually the star of “Dexter.” “I think I met him in the evening of the Emmys, but at the after-after-afterparty,” he recalled. “So it may have been Michael C. Hall. They may have both been there. But no, it’ll be nice to see him. He’s never hosted ‘SNL.’ Him or Kristen [Stewart]. And Kristen I got to meet during the promos , but Robert I haven’t met yet.” In that promo, Sudeikis gives Stewart a haircut, but we’re not sure fans would be as comfortable watching the Movie Awards host chop off Pattinson’s famous locks. Justin Bieber In 3-D Is ‘Insane,’ Jimmy Fallon Says

‘Never Say Never’ star is up for Best Jaw Dropping Moment at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. By Jocelyn Vena Jimmy Fallon Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber is known for making his fans scream their heads off whenever he’s around, so it’s no surprise that he’s up for Best Jaw Dropping Moment at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards for his 3-D concert spectacular “Never Say Never.” When MTV News caught up with two-time MTV Movie Awards host Jimmy Fallon on the Universal Studios lot, just a stone’s throw from the Gibson Amphitheatre where Sunday’s show will take place, he explained Bieber’s jaw-dropping abilities. “Bieber is just so jaw-dropping because Bieber in 2-D is enough, [but] Bieber in 3-D? Hold on to your horses,” he said of the pop superstar, who is up against James Franco (“127 Hours”), Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page (“Inception”), Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) and Steve-O (“Jackass 3D”). “It’s insane.” Fallon knows a thing or two about the Movie Awards, since he co-hosted with Kirsten Dunst in 2001 and returned solo in 2005. He’s pretty sure fellow “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Jason Sudeikis, who is tapped to host the show this year, has it in the bag when it comes to hosting. “It’s exciting. The Movie Awards are the most fun. Jason Sudeikis is a great host; he’s going to be great at it,” he said. “I’ve hosted in the past. I hosted with Kirsten Dunst. It’s just a blast. MTV just brings the fun back into movies.” Sudeikis may already know what he’s doing, but he did add some words of encouragement for his buddy: “Jason, you know what to do, buddy. Kick some butt over there.” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Jason Bateman Warns Jason Sudeikis ‘Don’t Be Hungover’ At Movie Awards

‘Horrible Bosses’ co-star tells host Sudeikis to ‘Be all you’ on Sunday. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Jason Sudeikis Photo: Frank Micelotta/ PictureGroup Jason Sudeikis is obviously no stranger to the pressures of live TV. On Sunday, he’ll join a long list of “Saturday Night Live” stars who’ve hosted the MTV Movie Awards that includes Andy Samberg, Jimmy Fallon, Eddie Murphy, Mike Meyers and Dennis Miller. Nevertheless, Sudeikis told us he’ll be psyching himself up in the mirror in the moments before the show. Standing backstage with his “Horrible Bosses” co-star Jason Bateman shortly after an MTV News screening and Q&A of their comedy at the Pacific Design Center on Wednesday night, Sudeikis even offered to demonstrate some of the things he’ll be telling himself before the big show. “Remember to keep your eyes open, Jason! Nobody likes a mumbler. And, uh, ‘Got your nose!’ It’s like my catchphrase to myself. ‘Got your nose!’ ” “With a little wink?” Bateman asked. “He’s adorable!” All kidding aside, Bateman was confident that his buddy won’t need any extra coaching. “He doesn’t need any advice. This guy’s been good on his feet for years and years, that’s why he has the best job in show-business on ‘SNL.’ You people at MTV are very lucky to have him.” “We’ve kept a tight group,” Sudeikis said of his preparation process. “I’ve been very fortunate to have a lot of my friends and co-workers from ‘SNL’ helping out and they had a great group out here [in Los Angeles]. Mark Burnett, [the event producer], has been my boss in regards to this, and I’ve spoken with him twice and he’s been nice. No ‘horrible bosses’ at this point.” “Just don’t be hungover,” Bateman said, turning his eyes to Sudeikis. “Be all you. Just make sure you’re there and well rested, angel,” he added. Then he went in for a kiss ( you have to watch the video ). So what can we expect from the show? “I bet people will be screaming after certain movies are named,” Sudeikis offered. “I bet it will run exactly on time and I bet that … It’s very difficult [to predict]. Well, probably, I bet someone dies.” Bateman smiled. “That’s great! Tune in for some good death, Sunday night, MTV!” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? ‘Eclipse’ Star Makes Plea For MTV Movie Awards Votes!

Jackson Rathbone tells Twilighters, ‘We’ve got a lot of heavy competition this year.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Hard-core Twilighters don’t need a reason to vote for “Eclipse” at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards , but if you’re torn, co-star Jackson Rathbone has some great reasons why you should help the third movie in the “Twilight Saga” take home some trophies at the show on Sunday. “We’ve got a lot of heavy competition this year — some Oscar winners, some amazing films, some amazing actors,” Rathbone said, reaching out to Movie Awards voters this week. “We’re just lucky to be in … contention, but y’all can help us out and go online and vote.” “Eclipse” is up for eight awards at the big show, including nods in categories like Best Movie, Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Best Breakout Star, Best Fight and Best Kiss, which has Kristen Stewart nominated for kissing both Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson ( Le scandal! ). And Jackson had one more push for the flicks. “Go out and vote and help us out. We need your votes,” he added. The “Twilight Saga” has had a quite a streak in recent years, taking home nearly 10 Golden Popcorn statues in all. And there’s a good chance the latest film will do well this weekend, when it will be up against a slew of other big flicks like ‘Inception” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” and “Eclipse” stars will compete against A-listers like Emma Watson, Zac Efron, Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg, to name a few. “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke recently told us she was excited to learn that the David Slade-directed film is nominated for so many Movie Awards. “I think it’s great. I love it that people are so passionate about it and that people are really into it and following the characters,” she said when we chatted with her about the June 14 DVD release of “Red Riding Hood.” “I think it’s a great tribute, obviously, to what [author] Stephenie Meyer created. … Rob and Kristen and everybody’s been able to just keep it going and keep people loving it all this time, and, of course, all the directors, everybody. I think it’s awesome. It’s great.” Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live on Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Jason Sudeikis Likens ‘Twilight Saga’ To ‘Star Wars’

MTV Movie Awards host tells Jason Bateman that Bella and Edward kiss is ‘a big darn deal’ during our ‘Horrible Bosses’ Sneak Peek Week Q&A. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Bateman, Seth Gordon and Jason Sudeikis at MTV’s Sneak Peek Week screening of “Horrible Bosses” Photo: Frank Micelotta/ PictureGroup WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — It all started with an innocent fan question, submitted via Twitter, during the MTV News Sneak Peek Week presentation of the summer comedy “Horrible Bosses.” The crowd at the Pacific Design Center had just finished watching an early screening of the flick and were taking in the live chat with stars Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis and director Seth Gordon, when the conversation turned to Sudeikis’ upcoming gig: hosting the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “Can the two Jasons top the Bella and Edward kiss from ‘Eclipse’ ?” the tweeter-in-question wanted to know. “What is that?” Bateman, clearly no devotee of the vampire franchise, wanted to know. So in stepped Sudeikis, who has been studying up on the Twi-ins and Twi-outs of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner’s blockbuster series. The “Saturday Night Live” funnyman proceeded to launch into an uproarious rundown of the steamy love triangle at the heart of the “Twilight Saga.” As Sudeikis explained it, Pattinson plays a “handsome vampire kid,” Lautner portrays “this other fella floating around,” and Stewart is “flummoxed — she doesn’t know which way to go.” Hitting on everything from “Star Wars” to masturbation to “Little House on the Prairie,” the cinematic breakdown was both reverent and ridiculous. But any summary can’t quite capture the magic of Sudeikis playing film school prof, so hit play on the video and check it out yourself! “Eclipse,” meanwhile, is up for eight nominations, including two Best Kiss nods for KStew herself, one with Rob and one with Taylor. As Sudeikis put it, “Them smooching is a big darn deal!” Don’t forget to check out the Movie Awards when they air live on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT. As we just announced, Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner will be on hand to present an exclusive clip from “Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? Kristen Stewart Vs. Herself: Celebs Pick MTV Movie Awards’ Best Kiss

Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner? Before Sunday’s show, we ask which smooch should come out on top. By Jocelyn Vena Kristen Stewart Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images Kristen Stewart got to lock lips with both Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” and it seems like all the — cough, cough — hard work paid off: Both smooches are up for Best Kiss at Sunday’s 2011 MTV Movie Awards . We went straight to Stewart’s fellow celebs to ask: Which lip-lock should come out on top? “Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham knows a thing or two about hot supernatural guys, and she has a very strong opinion about which kiss rules in “Eclipse”: “I love Taylor Lautner,” she gushed. “He could be making out with a hamburger, and I would be like, ‘Best kiss ever!’ ” Olympian Johnny Weir also seems to be a member of Team Jacob. “Taylor Lautner in that movie was, you know, rocking the sex,” he exclaimed, most likely referencing Lautner’s ever-present abs in the franchise. “X-Men: First Class” actress Rose Byrne is leaning toward Team Edward when it comes to the kisses, even calling out Pattinson’s fan-favorite nickname: “I think it will be RPattz.” Elle Fanning, whose sister Dakota stars in the “Twilight” flicks, concurred with Byrne, reasoning that Stewart’s Bella is “marrying Edward, so you sort of have to pick Edward.” “X-Men” hottie Michael Fassbender might not know Edward from Jacob, but he did pick one of the actors over the other. “I’m just going to go with Robert,” he said. Hilary Duff kept it right in the middle with her choice. “You’re really going for all the tough questions, aren’t you?” she teased. “In the first movie, it was better with Edward, and I think [then] it was better with Jacob,” she said. “Was that politically correct?” Stewart’s “Eclipse” kisses are up against Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“Inception”), Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1”) and Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”).
