Ke$ha Clarifies Britney Spears Dis In ‘Styrofoam’

‘I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her,’ she says. By James Dinh Ke$ha Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images On the heels of her apology to Justin Bieber for calling him “a tiny little baby” in the April issue of Maxim, Ke$ha is now taking back a few words regarding Britney Spears. In an old song called “Styrofoam” that surfaced online over the weekend, Ke$ha sings, “In 10 years/ Britney Spears/ Britney who?” But the singer, who did background vocals for Spears’ 2008 track “Lace and Leather,” explained the lyric in an interview with “So You Think You Can Dance Australia.” “Just to clarify, I didn’t write that bit,” she said. “And that was from when I was 15 — and there is a reason that song’s not on my record. So I have to admit now, I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her. At the time, I was 15. I didn’t really have the balls to not sing it. That is why it’s not on my record. I can’t really stand behind it.” Dr. Luke, who has worked with Ke$ha and Spears, also got into the mix. In a tweet directed at Perez Hilton, the producer wrote, “Think that song was from like 4 years ago and a joke. 🙂 I don’t believe the Britney press stuff cuz I know she likes Britney.” But that probably isn’t going to change Hilton’s mind. In an interview with MTV News, the blogger expressed his extreme distaste for the “trash-talking train wreck.” “She upsets me,” he said. “I love Ke$ha’s music, but I don’t like her. I hate the stupid dollar sign in her name. I hate the stupid nose ring. I hate the stupid makeup. I hate the fact that she looks like she smells and never showers.” Ke$ha has not yet addressed a comment she reportedly made earlier this month over Spears lip-synching during her shows. “I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show,” she said. “I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.” What do you think of Ke$ha’s comments? Do you buy her apologies? Let us know in the comments! Snoop Dogg Compares Kid Cudi Video To ‘Romper Room’ Kids’ Show

‘It’s just me and him having a good time,’ Snoop says of ‘That Tree’ clip. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Snoop Dogg Photo: MTV News Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi recently shot the video for their collaboration “That Tree.” The head-nodding number, produced by Diplo and featured on Snoop’s More Malice, features the Doggfather and Cudi trading verses about their favorite smoke-filled pastime. According to Snoop, the video will be “Romper Room”-like, a nod to the famed children’s television series known for its organized-yet-free-for-all episodes. “It’s kind of hard to explain,” Snoop told MTV News about the concept. “It’s like ‘Romper Room.’ It’s kiddish. It’s really fun. Me and him like to have fun, so we wanted the video to depict that. It’s not a real serious video. There’s no champagne room. There’s no money being thrown or a bunch of girls. It’s just me and him having a good time.” The song is one of the additions Snoop’s re-released of ,i> Malice N Wonderland . The More Malice set includes the Cudi-assisted “That Tree,” the “I Wanna Rock” G-mix featuring Jay-Z and the movie version of “Malice N Wonderland.” The West Coast rapper spoke with MTV News last week and explained his decision to repackage his latest project with a film. “I like to be very creative,” he explained. “I like to give people all of Snoop Dogg when I give them an album. I felt like on the [ Malice N Wonderland ] record, I didn’t give all of Snoop Dogg like I really could have. I had to make the record be about 12 songs and conceptually stick to the script as opposed to what I normally do with 20 to 21 songs on the album and overdose people. So what I did [on More Malice ] was, I pulled back from the music and put a little more thought in the creative side as far as the visual aspects. Am I gonna just make one video and say, ‘This is the single,’ and hope that people attract to it? Or was I gonna make a mini-movie to make people understand the philosophy behind this Malice N Wonderland project, and that’s what I was on.” What do think about Snoop Dogg’s video idea? Do you think his clip with Kid Cudi will live up to the hype? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Snoop Dogg Kid Cudi

Young Jeezy Says Shawty Redd’s Murder Arrest ‘Hit Close To Home’

‘He’s here with us in spirit,’ Jeezy says of recording Thug Motivation 103. By Shaheem Reid Young Jeezy Photo: MTV News On Thursday, we told you that Young Jeezy’s longtime collaborator Shawty Redd will definitely be on Thug Motivation 103, due in June. Redd has been entangled in a potentially life- and career-altering legal battle since he was arrested on New Year’s Day for murder . Jeezy told MTV News he would never turn his back on his friend. “I worked with Shawty more so on the album before he went in,” said Jeezy, who revealed one song they have on the album called “Let Me Handle My Business.” “Like I said, that’s my little brother, so it kinda hit close to home [when he was arrested]. I definitely would have wanted homie for this [ Trap or Die 2 mixtape], but it was good. We did the work we did and got in for the album.” Young said Shawty not being able to travel with him feels weird. “It feels a little different, but I got us,” the Snowman said. “I had us before; I got him now. He’s not able to be here with us through the duration, but he’s here with us in spirit. Better believe he’s calling every day, like, ‘What’s going on? How we lookin’?’ I’m talking to him or his people. He’s good. Shawty is holding his head. “He’s always been a strong little dude,” Jeezy added. “He’s like my little brother. I kinda raised Shawty. I kinda brought him around that type of mentality. He wasn’t a street dude off go. So whatever happened, that’s not for me or you to speak on. But as far as him being my little brother, he’s always gonna be in my prayers, and I’mma ride with him. He’s incredible with what he do. He’s like my Dr. Dre. I couldn’t do a Thug Motivation album without Shawty Redd. So best believe, know, he’s on that album. Real talk.”

Snoop Dogg Gets West Coast Rappers ‘Organized’ On New Mixtape

‘If you make good music and we are one, they’re gonna get onboard,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Snoop Dogg Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ Getty Images Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : Snoop Dogg Presents: We Da West Volume One Headliners : Snoop Dogg, DJ Whoo Kid and DJ Skee Co-Stars : Nipsey Hussle, Kurupt, Tha Twinz, Soopafly, Katt Williams, Jay-Z and Ludacris Essential Info : Snoop Dogg said his coast still needs to unify and the artists have to be leaders. “All I just want is the n—as out here to see if you make good music and we are one, they’re gonna get onboard and they gonna give you what you deserve,” Snoop explained to DJ Whoo Kid, who hosts the tape with DJ Skee. “You gonna get your radio play, your spins. But if you ain’t organized, n—as can come out here and pick and choose. They can take Nipsey, put Nipsey on a remix. Put Kurupt on a remix. They can never pick all of us and say, ‘You all go on a mission. The West Fest Tour. All West Coast n—as go on tour.’ ” Tha Dogg said his latest mixtape is the first of many to showcase up-and-coming talent. ” Volume One is just me bringing awareness to the artists. I have a vehicle to put their sh– out, through people such as yourself,” he told Whoo Kidd. “After this sh– comes out, n—as need to be running to the studio. Now you can be heard and seen. Even if a n—a only hears your record once or twice, you in a new system. You not just local no more. You not just in your neighborhood. You in a world system now.” Last year, Snoop dropped his I Wanna Rock mixtape , and he said it was better than Malice N Wonderland because it was uncut. “That sh– was banging harder than my album, ’cause the mixtape, we don’t have to make records to release to the radio,” he said. “My label looking at me: ‘We need a couple of songs for pop. We wanna go top 40.’ Then I call these radio stations: ‘Snoop Dogg, you’re working on a new album. When is your album coming out?’ Mutha—-a, my album is out, n—a! ‘Your single “Gangsta Love” is top 40.’ N—a, I’m on the next single, ‘I Wanna Rock.’ Some gangsta sh–. “It’s so square, man,” he said about working with the top 40 stations. “I’m so far in my career, I’m at the pinnacle. It’s a mode I have to go to. I don’t knock that, but I knock it when they say you have to do that to be successful.” Other Heat This Week

T-Pain Says ‘Freaknik: The Musical’ Has ‘No Boundaries’

Pain co-wrote the Adult Swim animated special, which features Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross and Cee-Lo. By Shaheem Reid T-Pain Photo: MTV News T-Pain says his next album, Revolver, will be coming out later this year, but his first major project of 2010 is a TV show. Pain is starring in and producing a one-hour animated special for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim this weekend called “Freaknik: The Musical.” Freaknik was an annual party in Atlanta that started in the 1980s but blew up in the mid-’90s. During spring break, students from the area’s historically black colleges and the hip-hop community used to gather for a weekend of partying, a picnic and, in many cases, debauchery. The event took over the city and was protested heavily, and the final one was in 1999. “I actually never been, but I’ve seen every piece of footage that can come from the Florida side of Freaknik,” said T-Pain, who hails from Tallahassee, Florida. “It was a lot of night vision, a whole lot of night vision. Every video I’ve ever seen [from Freaknik] was in night vision. Even in the daytime, it was night vision.” Pain’s musical, which he also co-wrote, follows a group trying to make it to the event. “It’s about the trials and tribulations of a group that’s trying to get to Freaknik,” Pain explained. “Freaknik, the party ghost — which is [who I play] — is holding a battle of the trillest. It’s a rap battle. If you win the rap battle, the first prize is a lifetime supply of money, ho’s and clothes. It’s three dudes in the rap group and their weed man trying to make it to Freaknik. It’s their trials and tribulations coming from Sweet Tea, Florida, all the way to Georgia. I play the Spirit of Freaknik. Everywhere I go, it’s on and poppin’.” Pain said the story wasn’t his brainchild, but he jumped onboard when presented with the idea. “I didn’t write the whole thing,” he said. “They came to me with the premise. I started scratching stuff off and getting new stuff. You can say I wrote it, but I didn’t. It was my homeboy Carl [Jones], the same guy that does ‘The Boondocks.’ We had to get a lot of his help, direction and stuff like that. We all wrote it together. It was a good team of people that has no boundaries. We took it so far that the watered-down version is awesome.” Andy Samberg, Snoop Dogg, Cee-Lo and Rick Ross are among the stars doing voice-overs. “I didn’t want nobody to play themselves,” Pain said. “Ross is Big Uzi, one of the dudes in the group. Cee-Lo is Light Skinned, which is a white dude who is a black supremacist.” “Freaknik: The Musical” airs Sunday at 11:30 p.m. on Adult Swim. As Lil Wayne’s Jail Sentence Approaches, A Look Back At Snoop’s, T.I.’s, Shyne’s Comments On Prison

These MCs and others have talked about their feelings as they faced prison. By James Montgomery T.I. Photo: Moses Robinson/ Getty Images On Tuesday, Lil Wayne is scheduled to surrender to New York authorities and is expected to begin serving a one-year prison sentence , stemming from a July 2007 attempted gun possession arrest. Wayne is certainly not the first artist to go down this path, especially not in recent years. And, much like those before him, he’s addressed the situation, in the form of a Web video last month (when he was originally expected to begin his term, before the sentencing was delayed due to dental surgery ), in which he thanked his fans for their support and asked them not to forget about him while he serves his sentence, “because I will forever think about you. I cannot wait for you to see me again.” More recently, he’s been sending MTV News videos that document his activities leading up to his court date on Tuesday. As in the past, MTV News has been following Wayne’s legal situation every step of the way. And over the years, we’ve managed to speak to many of his fellow artists as they faced the prospects of jail time, or breathed a sigh of relief after being acquitted of very serious charges. Two of the most famous instances were a 1996 interview with Snoop Dogg , one day after he was found not guilty on a murder charge, and an in-depth conversation with Sean “Diddy” Combs, following his acquittal on bribery and gun-possession charges. In our 1996 conversation with Snoop, he told us what was going though his mind as he stood waiting for his verdict to be read. “I left it in God’s hands. That’s why I looked it, so stone-faced. I was just, I didn’t have no expressions. You know what I’m sayin’? It was all inner. I prayed on it. My family prayed on it,” Snoop said. “[My attorneys] did what they were supposed to do, and they gave the baton to the jury, and I couldn’t do nothin’ but just bank on them and worry about what the outcome was gonna be, as far as to just sit there and hold my position, and to keep my head up high. And just, you know, wait for the outcome.” In 2001, MTV News’ Sway Calloway sat down with Combs , who had just been cleared of all charges after a six-week trial (and 15-month media firestorm) that stemmed from his then prot

T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross ‘Re-Create’ Atlanta Block Party In ‘Freaknik’

Cartoon premieres March 7 at 11:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. By Hillary Crosley “Freaknik: The Musical” Photo: Adult Swim T-Pain has a cartoon on the way called “Freaknik: The Musical,” but it’s probably not for kids. The show, airing March 7 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, will be an hour-long extravaganza detailing a group’s quest to “successfully resurrect the spirit of Freaknik … the biggest spring-break party known to man.” On Wednesday morning (February 24), T-Pain tweeted a trailer including castmembers like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg discussing the show and remembering their experiences at the original Freaknik. “Back in the ’90s, Freaknik was Atlanta’s version of the ultimate block party. It was Mardi Gras meets spring break, at your crazy cousin’s bachelor party, and anything could happen,” T-Pain said in a statement last month. “A decade later, I’m bringing it back for people like me, who didn’t get to experience it the first time around. We’ve re-created Freaknik’s vibe and energy with amazing animation, new music and an all-star cast of characters.” The Adult Swim cartoon has long been in the works, and T-Pain has recruited everyone from comedians Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Charlie Murphy to musicians Cee-Lo, Big Boi and George Clinton to lend their voices to the show. Still, with all the good-time nostalgia flying around, some participants like Rick Ross had to be coaxed into joining the “Freaknik” cast. “If it was for anybody else, I wouldn’t even be part of a cartoon,” Ross said. “But because of what Pain told me, he told me we’re doing it uncut, we’re doing it. It turned out to be fun, man, so it’s me, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, the list goes on.” Others were more than happy to relive the glory. “I was at the first Freaknik back when it first started in, like, the early ’90s, when it was poppin’. … I was a young rapper, selling CDs and tapes and posters,” Snoop Dogg recalled with a smile. Pain isn’t the first hip-hop star to team up with Cartoon Network. In 2006, Outkast’s Andre 3000 produced “Class of 3000,” an animated series set in Atlanta’s Westley School of Performing Arts. And Danger Mouse and MF Doom released an album and EP — 2005’s The Mouse and the Mask and ’06’s Occult Hymn — that featured beats taken from Adult Swim programming (and more than a few cameos by Adult Swim stars). “Freaknik: The Musical” premieres March 7 at 11:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network.
