When The Checks Stop Coming In: Former Six-Figure Marketing Executive Forced To Flip Burgers After Retirement Savings Run Out

Isht is real out here. Former Marketing Executive Reduced To Flipping Burgers It’s crazy that he was a former marketing executive who probably had a business degree and couldn’t manage his own money. According to Mail Online A retired businessman who once enjoyed all the perks that came with his six figure salary job is being forced to make ends meet in his retirement by working two lowly paid part-time jobs. Former high flying marketing executive Tom Palome, 77, now fills his days making $10 an hour to demonstrate food at Sam’s Club and $8 an hour flipping burgers and serving drinks at a golf club in Tampa, Florida. ‘I earn in a week what I used to earn in an hour,’ Palome, who used to fly first class on business trips to Europe, told Bloomberg. While Palome worked hard his entire career, paid off his mortgage and put his kids through college, like most Americans he didn’t save enough for retirement. In addition, his savings more than halved to $40,000 after the financial crisis struck in 2008. In need of cash to maintain his lifestyle and with years if not decades of life ahead of him, Palome took the first job he could find – not easy to find for someone at his stage in life. Palome’s reduced circumstances are part of a much the larger trend in America in which workers from all wage brackets are being forced to stay on in the workforce as they both live longer and have fewer retirement savings to rely on. Damn. Rather than focus about what he used to have, Palome prefers to be optimistic about his situation. He is in good health, lives independently and he in gainful employment. ‘I tell people I demonstrate food and I do short-order cooking. I don’t mind saying it. What’s important is that I can work today,’ he told Bloomberg. Palome receives $1,200 from Social Security and a $600 a month pension from his last corporate job. Still, his $1,400 in monthly wages allows him to bolster his savings and provides for some extras. He goes to the theater, pays for plane tickets to visit his children and grandsons and takes occasional vacations. ‘I know seniors like me who hardly ever leave their homes because they don’t have money to do anything,’ Palome said. ‘They could work, but won’t take a lesser job.’ Two years ago, Palome saw an advertisement in a local paper for the AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program. He met with Maxine Haynes, the program’s Tampa project director, who helped him get an interview at Advantage Sales & Marketing LLC, which runs food demonstrations for Sam’s Club and other stores. To stretch his income, Palome runs his dishwasher once a week and turns off his hot water heater every morning after he showers. He buys airline tickets six months in advance, booking rental cars for as little as $13.80 a day. If Palome has one regret, it’s that he didn’t get better retirement investing advice somewhere along the line. “I thought I could do it on my own,’ he said. At least he can smile about it. Bird Is The Word: Beysus Buys $2200 Worth Of Chicken From Nando’s Following V Festival Performance

Girls love Beyoncé and… Beyoncé loves chicken ! Via MailOnline reports : Superstar Beyonce got staff at an Essex chicken restaurant in a flap when she ordered over $2200 worth of food from them. The food from Nando’s in Chelsmford was for the singer and her entourage after she performed as the headline act at the V Festival in Hylands Park in the town on Saturday night. According to an apparent copy of the order posted on Twitter, it was made by telephone for takeaway and included 58 wing platters, 48 whole chickens, 12 veggie burgers, 24 coleslaws and 24 rice dishes – totalling $2261.61. It is not the first time Beyonce has spent a large amount in Nando’s. Earlier this year the 31-year-old splashed out over $1252.88 in a Dublin branch of the restaurant chain. Rumors of the star’s latest order spread over Twitter on Sunday. Helen Cable, an employee of the Chelmsford restaurant, tweeted: ‘Too excited that Beyonce is ordering a Nandos from us ?? if only she would pick it up herself!’ Her brother Alex Cable tweeted a copy of the apparent order and said: ‘So, my little sister works in Nandos in Chelmsford. Beyonce ordered £1,500 after her show on Saturday!’ It had the name of the person ordering the food ‘Beyonce K’ on the order. There was plenty of reaction on the social network, including from Alex Dowsett who said: ‘Love that Beyonce bought her team a nandos from Chelmsford. Just the £1443 worth of chicken.’ A source at Nando’s confirmed it WAS a genuine order for Beyonce and her entourage. But a spokesman for Nando’s said: ‘We never discuss the identity of our customers for reasons of privacy.’ Nice… Pure comedy so they never discuss the identity of their customers but yet they have employees posting up receipts and isht! And one of the lucky recipients of that Nando’s meal was likely one of Bey’s most trusted friends who celebrates his birthday today. Hit the flip to find out who we’re talking about! Lindsay Lohan Advised: Continue Treatment or Face "Certain Failure"

Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab , having just wrapped up her latest 90-day, court-ordered stint in which she split time between two California facilities. But the hard part has just begun, a judge warned. The judge who sent her into rehab for violating probation by lying to cops ordered her to attend therapy three times a week for the next 16 months. He made the decision hours after she left rehab. In a letter to the judge, Cliffside Malibu confirmed that Lindsay Lohan had “successfully completed her court-ordered course of treatment at the center.” However, it is “critical” she continue treatment. The facility says without three, 50-minute sessions per week required by the court (with attendance verified), she is “set up for almost certain failure.” Cliffside Malibu’s founder suggests the sessions “should be done face to face while she is in town, and via Skype or phone if she is out of town.” Lindsay Lohan has been in rehab at least six times and told Piers Morgan as recently as May that she felt it was all a big joke and waste of time. “Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless,” she claimed. “The first few times I was court-ordered to rehab it was like a joke, like killing time.” Cliffside says she didn’t treat it like one while she was there, though, reiterating, “We couldn’t be happier with the progress Ms. Lohan has made.” What LiLo does next is on her, and reports that she’s making a ” cut list ” of people to remove from her social circles is clearly a great first step. It’s hard to get any worse than it’s gotten in the last five years, right? What do you think, THGers? Can Lindsay Lohan stay clean?   Yes, she’s totally learned her lesson by now! No, she’s in denial, spineless, weak and surrounded by enablers! View Poll »
