‘Jackass’ Guys Spoof ‘Social Network’ For Critics’ Choice Promo

Bam Margera even strips down for the ad, one of four movie spoofs the crew shot. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Matt Elias Johnny Knoxville in a parody of “The Social Network” Photo: MTV News In anticipation of the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards next week, MTV News enlisted the cast of “Jackass 3D” to help spread the word about the star-studded event, by way of four hilarious parodies of the Critics’ Choice nominees for Best Picture. We caught up with our favorite merry band of misfits — Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, etc. — during the filming of their take on “The Social Network” to get the lowdown on the movie spoofs. In the “Social Network” scene we watched them shoot, Knoxville and company take on a tense boardroom, but in predictably outrageous fashion. Knoxville plays Mark Zuckerberg in a blond curly wig and Margera is an interrogator trying to get Zuckerberg’s attention by opening up the shirt of another person at the table (“Jackass” castmember Dave Englund) and licking his armpit. “We’re spoofing four movies. We’ve never done anything like this before,” Knoxville said. “So God knows how they’re going to turn out. I play Mark Zuckerberg; Wee-Man and Preston play the Winklevoss twins.” There is also a clip of Margera sprawled out on a conference table, totally naked — a situation Knoxville and Margera felt obligated to explain. “Poor Bam, the room was ice-cold,” Knoxville said. “Everyone, please know that the room was ice-cold in there.” “Every time that I’m naked, it’s always cold out,” Margera protested. “It’s Los Angeles, and it’s freezing.” “He could be standing on the equator, and he’d call it cold out,” Dunn added, nixing Margera’s masked attempts to make excuses for his physical appearance in the scene. Tune into the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Friday, January 14, on VH1.

Andrew Garfield Says Tobey Maguire Gave His ‘Spider-Man’ Blessing

‘It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I’m thankful,’ new Spidey tells BBC News. By Terri Schwartz Andrew Garfield Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images One would expect that there were some hard feelings after Sony dropped their planned “Spider-Man 4” movie early this year and chose instead to pursue a reboot of the franchise following a teenage Peter Parker. But the star of the upcoming “Spider-Man” film, Andrew Garfield, said that isn’t the case. In fact, during an interview with BBC News , Garfield said that, though he still hasn’t met Tobey Maguire, the previous star of the “Spider-Man” franchise has willingly passed the torch to the young British actor. “[Maguire] sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend,” Garfield revealed. “He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I’m thankful.” Garfield was cast as Spidey on July 1 after a series of casting rumors . This has been a big year for Garfield, as he earned his first Golden Globe nomination for his role in “The Social Network” and is likely to earn an Oscar nod as well. Maguire has been doing pretty well for himself since the news too. As a huge fan of Spider-Man since he was 4 years old, Garfield was thrilled to be cast as his comic book hero. This franchise is a big step away from his previous dramatic roles, but Garfield compared Stan Lee’s comic books to a “modern kind of Greek mythology” in terms of their themes. Filming began on the film two weeks before Christmas, and the star confirmed that the footage is being shot in 3-D for its planned 2012 release. Garfield said footage was shown on the camera monitors in 3-D as well, so director Marc Webb and the rest of the production staff would sit behind the camera wearing their “silly glasses” while he and co-star Emma Stone performed. As for his casting, Garfield told BBC News, “It’s wonderful in theory, isn’t it? You kind of go, ‘Well, this is going to be great.’ But then, of course, in practice, it’s obviously a great deal of hard work and a great deal of pressure, but wonderful. It’s incredible.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Spider-Man.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Study Shows That Relationships Are Stronger When Sex Happens Later Rather Than Sooner

Watch out all you loose and hot-pantied heffahs out there: Delaying sex makes for a more satisfying and stable relationship later on, new research finds. Couples who had sex the earliest — such as after the first date or within the first month of dating — had the worst relationship outcomes. “What seems to happen is that if couples become sexual too early, this very rewarding area of the relationship overwhelms good decision-making and keeps couples in a relationship that might not be the best for them in the long-run,” study researcher Dean Busby, of Brigham Young University’s School of Family Life, told LiveScience. Busby and his colleagues published their work Dec. 28 in the Journal of Family Psychology. The intricate nature of sex Past research on sex and its link to relationship quality has revealed two different paradigms. In one, sex is considered essential to a developing relationship since it allows partners to assess their sexual compatibility. Following this line of thinking, couples who marry before testing out their sexual chemistry are at risk of marital distress and failure later on. The opposing view posits couples who delay or abstain from sexual intimacy during the early part of their relationships allow communication and other social processes to become the foundation of their attraction to each other. Essentially, early sex could be detrimental to a relationship, skewing it away from communication, commitment and the ability to handle adversity, this thinking suggests. And past studies have shown the sex-relationship link is a complex one. For instance, a 2004 study of nearly 300 college students in dating relationships showed that when couples were highly committed, sex was more likely to be seen as a positive turning point in the relationship, increasing understanding, commitment, trust and a sense of security. However, when commitment and emotional expressions were low, the initiation of sex was significantly more likely seen as a negative event, evoking regret, uncertainty, discomfort, and prompting apologies. Sex comes early nowadays In the new study, Busby and his colleagues looked specifically at timing of sexual relations. They recruited 2,035 heterosexual individuals who had an average age of 36 and were in their first marriages. Participants reported when they first had sexual relations with their current spouse; they also answered communication questions, which evaluated how well they could express empathy and understanding toward their partners, how well they could send clear messages to their partners, and other questions. [10 Things Every Woman Should Know About a Man’s Brain] Other items on the questionnaire focused on relationship satisfaction and stability, with the latter gauged by three questions: how often they thought their relationship was in trouble; how often they thought of ending the relationship; and how often they had broken up and gotten back together. Individuals were categorized as either having: * Early sex (before dating or less than one month after they started dating). * Late sex (between one month and two years of dating). * And those who waited until after they married. Relationships fared better and better the longer a person waited to have sex, up until marriage, with those hitting the sack before a month showing the worst outcomes. Compared with those in the early sex group, those who waited until marriage: * Rated relationship stability as 22 percent higher * Rated relationship satisfaction as 20 percent higher * Rated sexual quality as 15 percent better * Rated communication as 12 percent better “Curiously, almost 40 percent of couples are essentially sexual within the first or second time they go out, but we suspect that if you asked these same couples at this early stage of their relationship – ‘Do you trust this person to watch your pet for a weekend many could not answer this in the affirmative’ – meaning they are more comfortable letting people into their bodies than they are with them watching their cat,” Busby said. He added that those couples who wait to be sexual have time to figure out how trustworthy their partner is, how well they communicate, and whether they share the same values in life “before the powerful sexual bonding short-circuits their decision-making abilities.” Right now, the team is repeating the study on a larger sample in a longitudinal design – in which participants are followed over time. “We are particularly curious about people who report wanting to wait to be sexual but then they don’t follow through on their beliefs, this may be a unique group with unique outcomes,” Busby said. Justin Timberlake Wants To Be An ‘Actor,’ Not A ‘Movie Star’

Fans ‘look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film,’ JT says. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Timberlake Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Justin Timberlake keeps finding box-office success with roles in animated flicks like “Yogi Bear” . And with so much buzz around his film “The Social Network,” in which he plays Napster founder Sean Parker, you might think that Timberlake has left the world of music behind for Hollywood. But JT knows that you want him to put out more music. “They’re looking at me like, ‘Why aren’t you staying with one path?’ ” he told the Los Angeles Times, referring to his fans’ response to his shift in careers. “They look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film.” Timberlake explains that he always wanted to act, even before selling millions and millions of albums with ‘NSYNC, and he admits that when he left ‘NSYNC fans were just as riled up when he embarked on his hugely successful and now revered solo career. “I faced the same feelings when I went solo,” he explained. “I had the same obstacles in music. I still do. But I feel like I should pose the question to everyone else: If you had this opportunity, what would you do with it? Entertaining is in my blood. I make no bones about the fact that I have always wanted to work in the forum of film. I take this seriously. I’ll be 30 in January, and I’m saying to myself, ‘If I’m going to do this, I need to do it now.’ ” What it boils down to for Timberlake is that he doesn’t just want to be famous at whatever he does — he wants to do it and see what happens regardless of the fan response. “I don’t know what a pop ‘career’ is. I just wanted to be in music,” Timberlake said. “I don’t necessarily crave to be a movie star. I just want to be an actor. I don’t look at it as a career — I just feel lucky. That’s not to say I’m going to take every opportunity that comes up. But now I have more chance to plot out a path.” Timberlake says that when the time is right and he can make it work for him again, he’ll go back to recording music. “I want to conceptualize something a little bit more,” he said. “And it’s probably because of the experience I’m having working with directors and screenwriters and getting to play cool characters. If that means I come up with, like, my version of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ so be it. Who knows? What I’ve learned from acting in movies, I want to apply to music and see what happens.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Timberlake MTV Rough Cut: ‘The Social Network’ Related Photos Acting, Log-Rolling, Quilting: Justin Timberlake Can Do It All Related Artists Justin Timberlake

By Mawuse Ziegbe “Captain Beefheart” Don Van Vliet Photo: Michael Putland/Getty Images Avant-garde artist Captain Beefheart was given a heartfelt e-sendoff by several celebrity fans after he died Friday (December 17) at age 69. After news of the passing of Beefheart, who was also known as Don Van Vliet, circled the world, a range of high-profile tweeters took to the social-networking site to type tributes to the late Magic Band leader and music game-changer. Former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman and singer/songwriter Linda Perry wrote , “Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band … RIP January 15 1941 – December 17 2010.” She also included a link to the melancholic doo-wop track “I’m Glad” from the 1967 album Safe as Milk. Comedian and illusionist Penn Jillette tweeted , “Captain Beefheart has died. Another inspiration & hero gone. He’s been painting, no music for a while, but I still listen all the time.” Beefheart was close to childhood friend and fellow artistic original Frank Zappa, whose children shared tender missives via Twitter in the wake of his passing. “Just heard about Captain Beefheart. Sad day indeed,” Diva Zappa tweeted . “R.I.P. Captain Beefheart…sad day,” Zappa’s son Ahmet wrote, before tacking on his favorite memory of the late artist. “Best Captain Beefheart moment. I was on the phone with him a few years ago and he asked me ‘what about a platypus in a briefcase?’ Love!” Since Beefheart’s entry into music and art more than four decades ago, his genre-melding approach has influenced a new generation of folk/pop appreciators and freak-flag wavers, many of whom paid tribute to the star on Twitter. “R.I.P. Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart. We wish you safe passage and return,” indie collective Akron Family tweeted . “RIP DVV, my mum got me into you when i was 15. Lx,” read a message posted on Scottish band Camera Obscura’s Twitter account that included a link to “Call on Me.” Experimental upstart Zola Jesus tweeted about how Beefheart’s music is still making an impact and being shared among young artists, writing, “Gave my brother my old, worn down copy of Trout Mask Replica before I moved as a thank you to introducing me to his music when I was far too young. Nothing he did was a mistake, there were no accidents in his music. Only sheer invention, passion… dear god, why does the world keep losing such important people? Who will fill their shoes? My heart is heavy for you, Don Van Vliet!” Share your memories of Captain Beefheart in the comments. Related Artists Captain Beefheart
