It’s been a long, bloody time coming but the people of Egypt officially have their “free” now. CAIRO — Eager for their first taste of a free vote in decades, Egyptians formed long lines outside polling centers on Saturday to cast their ballots on a package of constitutional amendments sponsored by the ruling military. The nationwide referendum is the first major test of the country’s transition to democracy after a popular uprising overthrew President Hosni Mubarak’s authoritarian rule on Feb. 11. Voters were being asked to cast ballots to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the entire package of nine changes. Preliminary results will be announced Sunday. A “yes” vote would allow parliamentary and presidential elections to be held later this year or early in the next. A “no” vote could force the military to extend the six-month deadline it has set for the handover of power to an elected civilian government. “My vote today will make a difference. It’s as simple as that,” first-time voter Hossam Bishay, 48, said as he waited in line with about 300 others outside a polling center in Cairo’s upscale Zamalek district. The center was guarded by six police officers and one from the army. Reports say that some people think that this vote is a little premature and the country hasn’t formed a suitable governing body. After all the “sexting” Rihanna and Colin Farrell have been spotted together on a date: The pair did not want to be photographed together so came out of Santa Monica eatery Giorgio Baldi separately last night. Rihanna looked demure, by her standards, in black cropped trousers and a silver blouse. Her curly red hair made sure she was noticed though as she exited the Italian restaurant. Farrell meanwhile, looked rather sheepish as he made a quick dash out wearing jeans and a black T-shirt. It has been reported in recent weeks that the pair have been sending flirty text messages to each other. The Sun claims that Farrell, 34 has ‘worked his charms on Rihanna to such an extent she hasn’t stopped texting him’, since they swapped numbers earlier this year when they both appeared on The Graham Norton Show in the UK. A source told the paper: ‘Colin was taken aback by some of the texts. He reckons he might well be in there. They’re both single, so why not?’ It is also rumoured that he will be introducing the 23-year-old to his two sons, James, seven and 18-month-old Henry, while she is in LA. Word??? The drinks are made by California entrepreneur Clay Butler. His drinks contain the psychoactive marijuana ingredient THC. Butler, of Soquel, Calif., tells the Santa Cruz Sentinel his branding savvy will make his product a hit. The company’s flagship cola drink is called Canna Cola. There is also Doc Weed, which is supposed to be like Dr. Pepper, lemon-lime Sour Diesel, grape-flavored Grape Ape and Orange Kush. A 12-ounce bottle costs $10-$15. Butler, a commercial artist, told the newspaper he doesn’t do drugs or need medical marijuana for any ailments. There is concern in Colorado about marketing “Soda Pot.” “This should appear to be a legitimate form of medication, not a soda pop that children could easily confuse for real soda pop,” says Bob Cooke of the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement. “This is simply no different than the packaging of alcohol and tobacco,” says Miguel Lopez, a medical marijuana advocate.
