Bonnaroo 2011 Headlined By Eminem, Lil Wayne, Arcade Fire

Wiz Khalifa, the Strokes, Mumford & Sons and the Black Keys also set to appear at Bonnaroo. By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage On Tuesday (February 15), organizers announced the lineup for the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, set for June 9-12 in Manchester, Tennessee. And, boy, it’s going to be interesting to hear the purists’ take on this year’s bill. Browse photos of the 2011 Bonnaroo performers . Unlike earlier, decidedly crunchy editions of the fest, the 2011 lineup is topped by two of the hugest hip-hop acts in the business — Eminem and Lil Wayne — along with newly crowned Grammy champs Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. Other acts on the bill include Mumford & Sons, the Strokes, the Decemberists, Florence and the Machine, Big Boi, Wiz Khalifa and Robyn. Of course, there are still some nods to Bonnaroo’s roots: Fest vets Widespread Panic return once again, as do My Morning Jacket and the String Cheese Incident. Also doing their part for the traditionalists out there are reunited legends Buffalo Springfield (in their only festival performance), Robert Plant and the Band of Joy, and Dr. John and the Original Meters, who will perform their 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo, from which the festival took its name. As in previous years, there will be an epic super-jam, this one organized by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Dr. John. Other artists set to appear at the 10th annual Bonnaroo include Ray LaMontagne, Iron and Wine, Girl Talk, Primus, Explosions in the Sky, Deerhunter, the Walkmen, Sleigh Bells and Smith Westerns. All in all, some 150 bands will perform at this year’s fest. Tickets for Bonnaroo 2011 go on sale Saturday, February 19 at 12 p.m. ET through the festival’s official website . Kanye West Joins Katy Perry On ‘E.T.’

Fourth Teenage Dream single to be released this week. By Jocelyn Vena Kanye West and Katy Perry Photo: EMI In her next single from Teenage Dream, “E.T.,” Katy Perry sings about falling in love with an alien to a spacey dance track. And unlike in the version on the album, the radio version features the extraterrestrial stylings of Kanye West. The rapper not only makes a cameo on the song, but he will also appear in the video alongside the California Gurl. The video was shot by “The Runaways” director Floria Sigismondi , who is known for putting her dark, feminine spin on clips for artists like Christina Aguilera, Marilyn Manson and the White Stripes. Little else is known about West’s contribution to the song and the video, but in a photo released by Perry’s label, Kanye appears in regular street clothes while Perry looks like perhaps she’s playing the alien character she sings about in the song — complete with pastel-colored makeup and giant braided headpiece. In fact, the look harks back to some of the costumes former Sigismondi collaborator Bj

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Rockets Up Billboard Charts

Instant-smash single is poised to debut at #1 on Hot 100. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Who didn’t see this one coming? Thanks to the pushed-up release date on Friday and the most talked-about entrance at Sunday night’s Grammys — not to mention what must have amounted to endless spins at clubs over the weekend — Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” is making some chart history. Billboard reported that after just three days of availability, the tune shot to a record-setting debut on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart at #14 and is poised to possibly debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week thanks to brisk digital sales. The first single from the album of the same name due on May 23 got 4,602 plays, which gives it the highest detections total by a debuting song in the chart’s 18-year history, representing an audience of 39.3 million. Citing unnamed sources, the magazine also reported that “Born” sold more than 450,000 downloads since its release on Friday morning, which could help the song debut at #1 on the Hot 100 and make it only the 19th song ever to do so on that chart. Gaga could also potentially wrest a record for the biggest debut track for a woman from Britney Spears if download sales continue to climb. Spears’ “Hold it Against Me” rocked the chart a month ago with 411,000 in sales, but if Gaga’s numbers hold she could land the fourth-largest digital track debut of all time behind Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” (636,000) the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” (465,000) and Flo Rida’s “Low” (460,000). The star stopped by “Jay Leno” the day after the Grammys, and in addition to explaining that she and Madonna have no beef over complaints by some that “Born This Way” bears too much of a resemblance to some earlier Material Girl hits, Gaga also announced her upcoming May HBO special and explained the inspiration behind her new album. She also revealed that she changed up the entire look of her Grammy performance two days before it aired because she wasn’t happy with it. “I don’t want the band and dancers to feel like a band and dancers,” Gaga said, explaining why her crew was dressed in flesh-tone vinyl outfits that matched her own. When Leno made a crack about her trio of Grammy outfits, which included a molded leather bodice created by fashion icon Thierry Mugler, Gaga said the latter had a cosmic inspiration. “It was inspired by humanoids, alien sex humanoid hybrid women,” she said matter of factly, rocking some of the low budget sci-fi alien face-ridged makeup she debuted at the Grammys, on Leno’s show. The talk show host pointed to her third getup, which she said featured a giant black “church” hat, and asked if maybe it didn’t block the view of the star behind her at the show, actor Will Smith. Gaga promised it didn’t and added that she is in love with his daughter’s hit single. “I love Willow,” gushed Gaga , who took a series of photos with the pre-teen Smith family singer on her lap at the show. “I told her that she inspired me to whip my hair back and forth!” Though she claimed to have written “Born This Way” in a matter of minutes, Gaga said she spent more than a year perfecting it and tweaking the music, promising that it is just one of the many sounds you’ll hear on the album. “The record is kind of eclectic in a way,” she said. “The rest of the songs on the album are quite different from ‘Born This Way.’ ” As for the album’s theme, Gaga said it’s about “being able to know that when you were born, you weren’t just born in that moment, you have your entire life to realize the person that you’re potentially going to become and whoever you choose to be was part of your destiny.” Her hope, she said, was to encourage people who are feeling bullied or disenfranchised at the moment to realize that it’s “never too late to harness your inner superstar.” For more Grammy Awards analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News! Wiz Khalifa Says Amber Rose And His Mom ‘Really Dig Each Other’

‘Amber is a sweetheart, and my mom, everybody who meets her loves her anyway,’ he says of rumored girlfriend and Kanye West ex. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa has been linked to Kanye West ex Amber Rose recently, and while neither party has admitted they are an item, the Pittsburgh rapper recently revealed that the model met his mother. Funkmaster Flex pulled the confession out of the upstart lyricist during his appearance on the jock’s Hot 97 show. Wiz briefly addressed the meeting to MTV News, describing it as “cool.” “They actually really, really dig each other,” Wiz said. “Amber is a sweetheart, and my mom, everybody who meets her loves her anyway. So it was really tight.” Wiz took Rose to meet his mother during the weekend of the AFC Championship game, when his hometown Steelers played the New York Jets. Team officials invited the rapper to perform his breakout hit “Black and Yellow” prior to kickoff. He coyly explained to Flex that Rose, due to her travel schedule, was nearby and they hung out in Pittsburgh together. While Wiz is a Pittsburgh native through and through, he told The Source in the magazine’s December/January issue that he plans to relocate to Los Angeles. He’s spent a lot of time out West recently recording with Snoop Dogg for their collaborative movie and soundtrack “High School.” When he makes the move to California, though, it won’t be something he announces, he said. “You wouldn’t be able to tell if I did or didn’t because I’m out there so much,” Wiz said. “And that’s what I wanted it to be. I kind of wanted to blend. If you do see me a lot, then that might be why.” Do you think Wiz and Amber should be a couple? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa

Does Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Owe Debt To Madonna?

Gaga experts weigh in on comparisons between her new single and the Material Girl’s ‘Express Yourself’ among other classics. By Aly Semigran Lady Gaga Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images Ever since Lady Gaga announced she’d be releasing “Born This Way” earlier than planned (she tweeted on Monday, “Can’t wait any longer, single coming Friday”), the hotly anticipated single has been all the talk among her Little Monsters. While the single has already landed at #1 on the iTunes charts, some listeners have remarked that the track sounds reminiscent of another rule-breaking pop diva: Madonna. “Born This Way” song made the Internet rounds on Friday (February 11), and reactions were coming quickly on Twitter, as well on Top 40 radio. MTV News caught up with a few Gaga experts who weighed in on Gaga’s new song and talk of comparisons to Madonna classics. DJ Riddler of Houston’s Hot 95.7 and Sirius/XM’s BPM told us, “I got the email at 3:45 a.m. from Z100 to play it during my 5 p.m. show today. When I first heard ‘Born This Way,’ the melody had similarities to Madonna’s ‘Vogue.’ Then as I continued listening, the chorus sounded like ‘Express Yourself.’ Finally, the end with the choir chant reminded me of ‘Like a Prayer.’ ” Riddler went on to compare “Born This Way” to “an updated Madonna Megamix,” adding, “Just as those early Madonna singles were #1 hits, this one is destined to do the same.” DJ Uch of Long Island’s Party 101.5, however, only found it to be a slight nod to early Madonna, not an overt copy. “Before I got a chance to listen to the new Lady Gaga single ‘Born This Way,’ my Twitter was flooded with comparisons to Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ and ‘Vogue.’ When I took a listen, initially, I thought that was a stretch, but the hook is definitely a tinge of vintage Madonna,” Uch told MTV News. “Still, those songs came out when Gaga was in diapers, and I’m sure Gaga’s core audience don’t have the nostalgia because they, too, were babies or not even alive. Truth is that all artists borrow from the work of early pioneers and the only ones who notice the similarities are those old enough to remember ‘way back when,’ ” Uch argued. ” ‘Born This Way’ is super catchy and will be an international hit I’m sure. I have the melody stuck in my head and I only heard it once, 15 minutes ago. Congrats to Gaga!” he added. John Polly of the Logo network told MTV News, “She seems to borrow pretty heavily, clearly visually, and sonically, from Madonna. Which is probably super smart, I mean, why wouldn’t you?” Polly asked. “As far as we know, she seems to have Madonna’s blessing.” Elsewhere, comedian Gabe Liebman, who joked that “Born This Way” “will be the gay anthem for as long as it takes until her next song comes out,” was clearly on Team Gaga. While he admitted it “sounds exactly like a Madonna song,” he found it to be “more fun, less annoying” and that Gaga is “younger and a lot more in touch” with today’s listeners. But, not everyone was as ready to give credit to Gaga on her latest venture. Record producer Junior Sanchez not only found similarities to Madonna, but also ’90s supergroup TLC. “At first listen, the verses remind me of TLC’s ‘Waterfalls’,” he said. Sanchez believes that Gaga’s dance tracks “are definitely current and right on spot,” but he’s still waiting to hear more diversity from the star. “I’m still waiting for her ‘Rain’ or ‘Live to Tell’ or ‘Take A Bow’,” he said checking off Madonna hits. “Gaga is genius but compare her to Madonna so early on in her career is a little premature. Madonna has been with us for three decades now.” Sanchez told MTV that he finds “Gaga’s take on how to deal with the gay issues in our culture interesting,” but unlike Madonna, “the songs are not as strong.” “Let’s see what happens” he said of Gaga’s future. “She could definitely change things and we could have a new pop icon for the next decades to come.” Does Gaga’s “Born This Way” remind you of Madonna’s classics? Lady Gaga Reveals She’s Called Stefani By Lovers

The singer opens up about her sex life during ’60 Minutes’ chat, airing Sunday. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Jun Sato/ WireImage Lady Gaga didn’t hold back in her “60 Minutes” interview, which is set to air Sunday. During her chat with Anderson Cooper, Gaga opened up about her stage name and revealed that some people still call her by her given name, Stefani. “Yeah, some people do. Especially in bed,” she said. The New York native laughed off Cooper’s follow-up statement, according to New York’s Daily News. “You don’t want somebody yelling out ‘Lady Gaga,’ ” Cooper replied. “No. That would freak me out,” the singer said. During the interview, Gaga attempted to take Cooper to her old apartment, but things did not go as planned. Gaga tried to enter her former building by pressing all of the buttons, hoping someone would buzz her in. “We’re going to do it the New York way … someone will listen,” she said. While they did get inside the building, the current tenant in Gaga’s old studio declined to open the door because of the “60 Minutes” camera crew. The Daily News found the woman now living in the apartment, and she explained why she didn’t let the superstar in. “I had the flu,” Emily Ting told the newspaper. “I didn’t want to have cameras inside. I love Anderson Cooper. He is very handsome. His hair is so gray and wonderful. She’s great. I’ve definitely danced to some of her songs.” Not only did Gaga and Cooper spend time in the singer’s hometown , they also met up in London for the segment. Gaga’s “60 Minutes” interview airs Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, right before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, where she’s set to perform and is up for six awards.
