‘Eclipse’ Star Anna Kendrick Wants Role In ‘The Hobbit’

‘I was and still am obsessed with ‘Lord of the Rings,’ actress reveals. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Anna Kendrick Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Anna Kendrick can completely relate to the throngs of “Twilight” fans who spent the last few days camped out outside the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for the “Eclipse” premiere . In fact, there was a time in Kendrick’s life when she did the same exact thing, except her object of devotion was a rock band. And then there’s her whole “Lord of the Rings” obsession, too. “I camped out to see the Strokes . I was obsessed with Julian Casablancas. I had a huge crush,” the Oscar nominee revealed to MTV News about her fandom at the “Eclipse” premiere . “And I was and still am obsessed with ‘Lord of the Rings.’ I do an annual marathon of the extended editions. It’s hard-core.” While plans for a Strokes biopic have yet to be announced, it seems that Kendrick can at least live out her “Lord of the Rings” fantasies in the soon-to-be-made “Hobbit” flick . “Believe me! I spend many nights wondering that!” she explained. “This is officially my feeler.” So would she be up for playing Bilbo Baggins, originally played by Ian Holm? “Cate Blanchett did it!” she laughed, referring to the actress’ role in “I’m Not There.” “She was Bob Dylan!” Of course the night’s big topic was “Eclipse” and its killer music. “I’m blown away by the soundtrack. And Metric’s one of my favorites,” she said of the band, which has a song on the soundtrack. Luckily Kendrick will have more than one chance to hear them. “Metric does tracks for ‘Scott Pilgrim’ too, so I’m feeling awesome about summer movies.” Check out everything we’ve got on For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Drake Thinks He’ll Call Sophomore Album Moments

‘It’s a game of moments,’ MC says of rap climate. ‘I’m the moment right now.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images With a title like Thank Me Later, Drake doesn’t seem to think his moody, dense full-length debut is going to be easy to digest right away. Listeners will catch on eventually, though, and he’s willing to wait for their gratitude. But even before his first album is out, Drake seems to be predicting that he’ll be ready to bask in his success by the time he releases his sophomore run. According to the Los Angeles Times, Drake is flirting with the idea of naming his next album Moments. “Hip-hop is all about moments,” Drake told the newspaper. “You look at people who were hot three or four years ago who are sitting around reminiscing. It’s fickle. It’s a game of moments. I’m the moment right now.” For now, however, the So Far Gone star is concentrating on the highly anticipated release of Thank Me Later, which arrives Tuesday. Although the album leaked prior to its official release date, Drake tweeted he’s “good” despite the minor setback. “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here,” Drake wrote. “Just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!” Earlier this year, Drake spoke with MTV News about his debut and what the process has taught him about his own life. “I’m learning about myself. That’s what my music is about,” he explained. “I don’t necessarily know all the time who Drake is. I take it day by day and learn as much as I can about myself. As I learn, I choose to share with my fans. I’m just an artist that isn’t scared of being open. “My journey, as far as growing into a man, is shared with the people,” Drake added. “My whole life is like that. I grew up on TV, I’ve always become accustomed to sharing my life with the world. At least now I get to do it in my own words … so I’m not a character. I have a little more grasp on who I am. I’m more eager to share it now. Me growing into an artist is me growing into a man.” What do you think about Drake’s potential album title? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Drake

‘Jersey Shore’ Cast Joins Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull In ‘I Like It’ Video: Watch It Now!

Iglesias’ first single from the ‘Jersey Shore’ Soundtrack features the tanned crew sneaking into his show. By James Montgomery The cast of “Jersey Shore” in the “I Like It” video Photo: Interscope Have your fists recovered yet? During the 2010 MTV Movie Awards pre-show, we were treated to the world premiere of the video for “I Like It,” the first single off the upcoming ‘Jersey Shore’ Soundtrack, a booming, club-ready track featuring Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull and, yes, the entire cast of MTV’s breakout hit show. In the clip, all of your favorite “Jersey Shore” stars — Snooki, J-Woww, Pauly D, The Situation, to name just a few — do what they do best: crash a party, sneaking in to a packed, laser-lit club while Enrique and Pitbull rock hard onstage complete with a band (including a guitarist who looked suspiciously like Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman). Jersey’s finest go undercover as guitar techs, romance a bouncer and, yes, even pose as delivery men to gain access, eventually snagging some coveted backstage passes. And oh, yes, you can believe that once inside the club, much fist-pumping ensues, not to mention some hardcore flexing from the “Shore” fellas, and some super-sexy dance moves courtesy of the tanned and teriffic ladies. In addition to “I Like It,” the ‘Jersey Shore’ Soundtrack also features tracks from Lil Jon, LMFAO, Taio Cruz and Akon, and is due in stores July 20. The second season of “Jersey Shore” — which follows Snooki and crew down to Miami’s South Beach (and eventually back to Seaside Heights) — will premiere on Thursday, July 29, at 10pm ET/PT on MTV. Drake Says He’s ‘Good’ After Thank Me Later Leaks

‘Just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY!’ MC tweets of album, out June 15. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images It was inevitable. Drake ‘s Thank Me Later leaked to the Internet on Tuesday night, but the Toronto MC isn’t sweating it too hard. “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here,” Drake tweeted . “Just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!” Just as he’d told MTV News months ago, “Fireworks” with Alicia Keys opens his first full-length album. Drizzy is candid from the start, rhyming about Rihanna, sharing his hope that his relationship with Lil Wayne never sours due to success and admitting his insecurity about adjusting to fame. “Fireworks,” “Light Up” (featuring Jay-Z) and “Miss Me” with Lil Wayne had all leaked long before this week. The new leak introduces fans to Drake’s second Thank Me Later collaboration with Kanye West (Ye also produced the single “Find Your Love”), “Show Me a Good Time.” Much like another cut on the LP, “Fancy” with T.I. and Swizz Beatz, “Show Me a Good Time” is that fun, summertime, mid-tempo dance record that the women will adore. It starts with some frantic sampled yells, but Drizzy comes in and smoothes out the situation with his voice. “How did I end up here with you?” he sings on the chorus. “After all the things I’ve been through/ It’s been one of those days/ You try to forget about it/ Take a shot and let it out.” And seconds later, he urges, “Show me a good time.” Later in the song, Drake raps about the Wu-Tang Clan and compares himself to the late, great O.D.B. He goes on to tell the lady in the song he wants to “kick it” with her like A Tribe Called Quest. Then he reflects on the haters. “People really hate it when a backpack rapper gets rich and starts living that life, dawg/ It feels like when you get into that paper, hip-hop hates ya/ They would do it just like I do if they could; it’s in our nature,” he proclaims in rhyme. The verse ends with Drake declaring that he’s made it. The very next record, the Nicki Minaj-featured “Up All Night,” has a darker sound, but the rhymes stay B-boy boastful as Drake celebrates his success. In true hip-hop form, he’s not shy about basking in his own accolades. “Shout out to the fact that I’m the youngest n—a doing it,” says Drake, who also affirms he has the game “in his pocket.” Nicki comes in on the second verse and the lyrical assault doesn’t let up. “Which bitch you know made a mil off a mixtape?” she asks, keeping the animation in her rhyme to a minimum and instead levying insults to her adversaries. “We got the hawks, and I ain’t talking about the Peach State.” Noah “40” Shebib, Boi-1nda, Tone Mason, Omen and Timbaland are the other producers on the album. Do you think the leak will hurt the success of Drake’s Thank Me Later ? Are you waiting for the actual release? Talk about it in the comments. Related Artists Drake

Usher, Katy Perry, B.o.B And More: Who Has The Song Of The Summer?

Lady Gaga and 3OH!3 and Ke$ha are also in MTV News’ 2010 summer-jam race — who gets your vote? By Kyle Anderson Photo: Interscope Records With Memorial Day weekend just around the corner, it’s finally time to get summer started properly. But perhaps more important than the baseball games, barbecues, pool parties and beach trips that will pepper the next few warm-weather months is the singular song that will provide the soundtrack to all those events. It’s time to choose the official summer jam of 2010, and we’re leaving it up to you. There isn’t a lot of science that goes into a great summer song, but you certainly know it when you hear it. It has to be catchy, bright, fun and sound great cranked way, way up in a car with the windows rolled down. Think Rihanna’s “Umbrella” (the jam of 2007), Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” (2002), Pras’ “Ghetto Supastar” (1998) or the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” (2009’s entry). For summer 2010, there are five strong nominees that we think are the front-runners for the title. All week, MTV News will be laying out the case for each, and we’ll be throwing the vote to you. At the end of the week, we will have crowned a summer jam that you can play at maximum volume during whatever long-weekend activity you have planned and comfortably call it summertime. Our five nominees are: Lady Gaga ‘s “Alejandro,” B.o.B ‘s “Airplanes” (featuring Eminem and Hayley Williams), 3OH!3 and Ke$ha ‘s “First Kiss,” Usher ‘s “OMG” and Katy Perry ‘s “California Gurls” (featuring Snoop Dogg). Stay tuned to MTV News and the MTV Newsroom blog for much more on these five jams. So pick out your favorite swimsuit, slather on some SPF 30 and get voting, because it’s time for summer jams! Which of our five nominees do you think deserves the title? Sound off in the comments!

Lady Gaga, Beck Featured On Next ‘Glee’ Soundtrack

Glee: The Music, Volume 3 – Showstoppers will be released May 18. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty Images We’re still only in the first season of “Glee” and already the masterminds behind the hit Fox show are planning the next soundtrack. Glee: The Music, Volume 3 – Showstoppers is expected to drop May 18 and it will feature a number of chart-toppers performed by the beloved cast from the show. The soundtrack will also feature songs sung by this season’s guest stars, including Kristin Chenoweth, Olivia Newton-John, Neil Patrick Harris and Idina Menzel, according to Idolator.com . Two versions of the soundtrack are expected to be released. The deluxe edition will include Gaga’s “Poker Face” as performed by Menzel, as well as Beck’s classic “Loser.” Other songs on the soundtrack include the All-American Rejects track “Gives You Hell,” Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and the ’80s classic “Safety Dance,” originally recorded by Men Without Hats. The soundtrack will also cover tunes by the Beatles, Aerosmith and Kiss. At the “Glee” spring premiere party last week, castmember Jessalyn Gilsig teased about the Beck cover. “I have a song coming up, which I’m really excited about,” she said. “It’s really, really fun! … It was a Beck song. Isn’t that cool? It’s like a little departure for the show in a very unexpected location and a very unexpected grouping of cast members.” Fans were able to scoop up the soundtrack to this week’s “Power of Madonna” episode, technically making it the third soundtrack to be released from the show. And with a sequel to the episode in the works , count on the cast to work their magic on some additional classic Madonna tunes. “The entire cast was amazing,” Madonna herself said about the episode. “They’re all so talented. I especially loved Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Kurt Hummel’s (Chris Colfer) characters. Ryan Murphy did a great job bringing all these elements together. [Daughter] Lola loved the show too. I wish I went to a high school like that. … If only.” Related Videos It’s The Return Of ‘Glee’! Related Photos ‘Glee’ Returns For 2010 What Other ‘Glee’ Music Videos Do We Want To See? Phoenix Talk Soundtrack To New Sofia Coppola Film, ‘Somewhere’

‘This is the first time we feel [that] the music fits to the picture,’ bassist Deck D’Arcy says. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sasha Hamrogue Phoenix Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images Earlier this year, fresh off winning a Grammy for Best Alternative Album (and having an interesting exchange with “Jersey Shore” star Snooki on the red carpet, Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars told BBC Radio that his band has written a “very minimal” soundtrack for his girlfriend Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film “Somewhere.” “It was more about trying to make a sound that fits with a Ferrari and the city of Los Angeles,” Mars told the BBC about the soundtrack. “It was more of an engineer work than a composer.” It sounded intriguing, so when MTV Radio caught up with Mars’ Phoenix bandmates, they asked about the “Somewhere” score — which, according to press release from Focus Features , stars Stephen Dorff as a “bad-boy actor” who gets an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter — they tried to pry some additional details out of ’em. Turns out, there’s going to be a whole lot more than Ferrari sounds on the soundtrack: The band’s song “Love Like a Sunset” also features heavily. “She asked us to do some music, very in the spirit of ‘Love Like a Sunset,’ so we tried to put that track and elements of the track in the movie, and it worked well,” Phoenix guitarist Christian Mazzalai said. “And then we wrote very small pieces of music, very minimal music for the movie too. … We’re very proud of it.” “This is the first time we feel [that] the music fits to the picture,” bassist Deck D’Arcy added. “We’ve [been on] many soundtracks before, and it’s always weird for us — producers must like [our songs], of course it if they use them — but for us, it’s always weird to see them in the films.” Mazzalai and D’Arcy wouldn’t divulge more about the soundtrack (though they did say “Somewhere” would be in theaters “sometime in the fall,”) and while this isn’t the first time their music has been used by Coppola in a film — their “Too Young” was featured in her 2003 film “Lost in Translation” — this is the first time they’ve tried their hands at actually writing a score. And they admit it’s a process they’re still getting used to. “It was like in ‘Lost in Translation,’ when they used our song in a scene, it’s funny, but it’s weird for us,” Mazzalai laughed. “We didn’t believe it. So this is the first time we feel like the images match the music. But we still don’t believe it.” Related Artists Phoenix
