Last night’s GOP debate in South Carolina may be one that causes Ron Paul serious problems in the “honesty” department. Mr. Paul’s truthfulness is being questioned after he told Fox News’ Brett Baier that he never said that he would not have given the order to go into Pakistan and kill Osama bin Laden. There’s just one small problem with Paul’s denial, he did say it, several times. Good Riddance: Jon Huntsman To Drop Out Of GOP Presidential Race To Support Fellow Mormon Mitt Romney

Mormons unite: Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is expected to withdraw his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and throw his support to Mitt Romney, Fox News learned Sunday. Huntsman is set to announce his withdrawal from the race Monday at 11:00 a.m. ET at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in South Carolina, at which time he will endorse his former rival. After several days of discussion with his family, friends and campaign advisers, the former Obama administration ambassador to China told aides he is ending his presidential campaign. Governor Huntsman was encouraged in New Hampshire, but does not want to stand in the way of the best candidate to beat Barack Obama and will endorse Romney, an aide for Huntsman told Fox News. South Carolina senior staffers for Huntsman say they are “stunned,” but partially relieved because they feel the state had been neglected by a lack of resources and attention. “(The) campaign never put serious resources … to promote his serious conservative record that would have beaten Obama,” Regional Southeast Political Director Adam Piper told Fox News. One down, four more to go. Source

New Hampshire Primary Driven By ‘Passion,’ Sway Says

Dedicated volunteers inspire MTV News’ Sway. By Sway Calloway Volunteers in New Hampshire Photo: MTV News MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — After months of buildup, the people of New Hampshire finally came out to cast their vote today. I’ve had a great time over the past 24 hours talking to voters supporting just about every name on the ballot. I met a lot of really cool people and listened to why they voted and why they’ll do it again in November — even if their pick today doesn’t make the cut. I met people who are volunteering for President Obama and walked around the crowded office in downtown Manchester where they are trying to keep Democrats in this notoriously independent state excited about supporting the commander in chief. A lot of them were college kids who are already on the ground making calls from phone banks, waving signs outside polling places and spending their winter break learning how political campaigns work and filling up the office’s “Why Are You In?” wall with their motivation to service. I met one volunteer who came all the way from the U.K. just to support the Obama campaign, and at a rally for former Senator Rick Santorum , I sat down with a young man who drove in from Canada. He can’t vote, but it was important for him to just be here and participate in our political process. I also met a couple of young ladies who were Santorum supporters, including Jordanne Anderson, who shot her first deer the other day and, like me, is also a big-game fisherman — she caught a 160-pound swordfish. She was very, very well-versed when it came to the political process and the candidate she wants to vote for. What struck me about all of them was their passion. Whatever issue it was that drove them to the polls or to drive from three states over to knock on doors, make phone calls and wave signs, they were all in, even if they suspected their candidate wouldn’t end up on top when the polls closed. We had a lot of good times here in Manchester, where I learned once again that the 45 million young voters in this country not only have a voice, they’re ready and eager to use it. I can’t wait to come back next time and stay on this political trail with the Power of 12 and hear what they have to say. You guys rule this generation. MTV is on the scene in New Hampshire! New Hampshire Primary: Mitt Romney Wins Easily

Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman finish in second and third, respectively, with Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich pulling up the rear. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney Photo: Getty Images MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — What a difference a week makes. Many voters, journalists and campaign workers were up into the wee hours of the morning seven days ago when the Iowa caucus went down to the wire. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won that contest by just eight votes, but in New Hampshire on Tuesday (January 10), the margin was much wider, as the longtime GOP front-runner became the first non-incumbent Republican to ever sweep the first two primaries of the election season with 36 percent of the vote when polls closed. Thanks to a population that includes 40 percent of voters who identify as independents, it was another strong finish for Libertarian Congressman Ron Paul . With his by-now-ubiquitous cadre of young supporters spreading the word alongside unique ads on everything from digital billboards to green laser beams spelling out his name on the side of downtown Manchester buildings, Paul built on his third-place finish in Iowa , coming in second. After barely registering in Iowa, former Utah governor and Obama administration ambassador to China Jon Huntsman put all his chips on the Granite State over the past few months. The motorcycle-riding, piano-pounding ex-high school rocker appeared at more than 170 events in New Hampshire while his rivals focused on Iowa. And while his poll numbers slowly crept up from single digits as Election Day neared, when polls closed Tuesday, Huntsman finished in third place. Rick Santorum might have come in a close second in the Iowa caucus, but in New Hampshire, he shared last place with Newt Gingrich, nabbing around 10 percent of the vote each. Up next is January 17’s South Carolina primary, where Romney faces a much harder contest with Santorum and Gingrich. MTV is on the scene in New Hampshire! Iowa Caucus Results: Mitt Romney Wins By Eight Votes Over Rick Santorum!

The closest Iowa caucus results in history produced a near draw, with Mitt Romney winning by just eight votes over Rick Santorum and Ron Paul a close third. Romney, considered the favorite in the Republican presidential race quest, did not notch a commanding win that could have ended the primary process early. However, a win’s a win, and after a year in which one candidate after another sought to be the conservative alternative to him, a pretty impressive one at that. Even more remarkable was the finish of Rick Santorum, whose candidacy was so moribund just weeks ago that many wondered why he was still in the race. The former Pennsylvania Senator was neck-and-neck with Romney, the one-time Governor of Massachusetts, for all of Tuesday night and into this morning. Romney being declared the winner by a mere eight ballots early Wednesday. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was a close third with 21 percent of the caucus votes. “We will go on,” he said in an upbeat speech. “There is nothing to be ashamed of.” The race was so close, Romney couldn’t even claim victory in his speech. With 99 percent of the vote counted, he and Santorum each had 24.6 percent. ‘‘We also feel it’s been a great victory for us here,’’ Romney said early today, before the final votes were tallied. “Onto New Hampshire, we’ve got work to do.” ‘‘Thank you so much Iowa,’’ said Santorum, who is also off to N.H. ‘‘You, by standing up and not compromising ….. have taken the first step of taking back this country.’’ The GOP nominating process continues with the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday, followed by the South Carolina primary Saturday, January 19. The former favors Romney heavily, the latter not so much. Santorum and Newt Gingrich, who placed fourth last night in Iowa, will be contesting it hard. And Ron Paul … you can never count out Ron Paul. You may soon count out Texas Gov. Rick Perry, though. After finishing fifth in Iowa, he announced that he was returning to Texas to assess his candidacy. Last night’s Iowa caucus results: Mitt Romney: 24.6%

Jesus Take The Wheel: 10 Year-Old Pulls A Gat On Candy-Stealing Jokester

Lil damn hooligans! South Carolina officials say a 10-year-old trick-or-treater pulled a 9mm handgun on a woman who joked that she’d steal his Halloween candy. The Augusta Chronicle reported Tuesday that a 28-year-old woman told authorities she recognized some youngsters Monday evening and she joked she’d take their candy. Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno says a 10-year-old in the group said “no” and pointed the handgun at her. Turno says the gun wasn’t loaded but the boy had a clip of ammunition. He was taken to the police station and was turned over to his parents. Turno said the boy’s brother, who is also 10, told officials he also had a gun and both weapons were recovered by police. Turno says the boys got them from their grandfather without his permission. It’s just candy kid, no need to go all Nino Brown on the lady. Cotdamn…SMH Source

Hi Hater: Tea Party Senator Talks Yang On Obama “I’m Sick Of Hearing His Tired Lil Speeches”

Tea Party leader Sen. Jim DeMint on Sunday dismissed President Barack Obama’s jobs speech four days ahead of its scheduled delivery. “I’m, frankly, very tired of speeches. I don’t want to be disrespectful to the president, but what I want to see is something in writing,” the South Carolina Republican told ABC’s “This Week.” “If he’ll send a written proposal, I’ll give it every chance. But I’m not interested in his speech right now.” Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress, in which he will shift his attention to job creation, is anticipated to be one of the most important speeches of his presidency. But Republicans are less than eager to hear it. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) rejected Obama’s request to deliver the speech Wednesday, citing scheduling issues, and insisted he come Thursday instead. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), an outspoken House freshman, announced that he is skipping Obama’s speech altogether. DeMint’s resistance to Obama’s jobs plan goes so far as to include opposition to tax cuts and business tax credits, a remarkable turnaround for a political party that has for decades pushed for exactly that. “The things that have been leaking out of the White House, none of them are like what I’ve been hearing from businesses all over the country,” DeMint said. “You know, extending unemployment [insurance], cutting payroll taxes, offering tax credits when you hire someone, I haven’t heard one business say things like this.” Rather, DeMint argued, business want the government to oppose unions and eliminate regulations, which he said would create “certainty.” “What they want is some certainty. They want the regulators off their back. They want the National Labor Relations Board to stop pushing the union agenda and try to help companies that create jobs. So I don’t think the president is going to come out with things that are really going to create jobs,” DeMint said. A nationwide survey of small business owners by McClatchy, however, found that most small business owners want no such thing. Source
