Britney Spears ‘Saddened’ By Irish Fan’s Death

After Spears’ Dublin concert, a fan was thrown off a fairground ride outside the venue. By Kara Warner Britney Spears Photo: Danny Martindale/Getty Images Britney Spears expressed her condolences Tuesday (October 25) to the family of a fan who died after attending her concert Monday in Dublin, Ireland. Siobhan Healy, 31, was on a fairground ride called the Tip Top outside the concert venue when she was thrown to the ground and killed instantly. According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Healy had attended Spears’ concert earlier in the evening at the nearby O2 arena. “I was saddened to hear of the tragic accident in Dublin,” Spears tweeted Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the family. –Britney” A family friend told the paper that the accident has devastated the residents of Healy’s hometown of Willsborough. “The community is very shocked,” Michael McGreal said. “I know her family very well, we are all very upset.” An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the accident, with some speculating that the recent severe weather that has swept through Ireland might have been a contributing factor. Kenneth McFadden, the owner of the company that runs the Tip Top ride, also expressed his condolences. “We can’t say [what happened], it all happened so quick,” he said. “We are just in bits at the moment, we are just devastated.” McFadden also told the Daily Mail that he has had the Tip Top ride for nearly five years and never experienced any problems with it. Britney Spears Recruits A Backstreet Boy For Tour

Howie Dorough says he’s ‘so excited’ to open for South American leg of Britney’s Femme Fatale Tour. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: David Tonnessen/ PacificCoastNews/ Newscom Nineties pop fans rejoice! Britney Spears has recruited the Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough to open for a string of South American dates on her Femme Fatale Tour. The gigs will coincide with the release of his first-ever solo album, Back to Me, out November 15. “I’m so excited that I’m going [to be] joining @britneyspears on several dates of the Femme Fatale tour!” Dorough tweeted on Monday.”Can’t wait to see all my lovelies in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela!! VIP info will be coming next week.” According to Dorough’s site (and as he also tweeted ), the Backstreet Boy’s initial stint on Britney’s tour will kick off on November 20 in La Plata, Argentina, with stops in Santiago, Lima and Bogota before it wraps up in Caracas, Venezuela, on November 28. He’s just the latest supporting act to join the worldwide Femme Fatale trek, stepping in the spot once occupied by artists like Joe Jonas, Nicki Minaj and DJ Pauly D . And when Dorough spoke to MTV News over the summer about his first solo recording, he said it felt good to finally get the chance to show fans a new side of himself as an artist. “I finally have been able to put [my album] together and I’m excited and very, very proud to be able to make this body of work,” he told us. “I feel [it’s] a total representation of where I’m at right now in my life and [it represents] things that are going on, positive-ness and energy. I think it’s really a chance for people to hear me and know my voice.” That’s not all, Howie D fans. Next year, Dorough will hit the road again with NKOTBSB — yes, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys — for a European tour that kicks off in April. “It’s awesome,” Dorough told MTV News of touring with NKOTBSB. “It all kind of spun from that show at Radio City [Music Hall]. I think we did something that was a shock factor for people. I don’t think a lot of people would have thought the two of us being onstage together would have been fathomable.” What do you think of Howie D opening for Britney Spears? Tell us in the comments! Zachary Quinto Announces He’s A ‘Gay Man’

‘Star Trek’ actor had dodged rumors before making revelation in New York magazine. By Gil Kaufman Zachary Quinto Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images For years, “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto dodged questions about his sexuality, preferring to keeping his private life private and let his work on TV shows such as “Heroes” and movies like the recent “What’s Your Number” do the talking. Then, unexpectedly, he offhandedly outed himself in an interview with New York magazine, while discussing his starring role last year in the restaging of the early AIDS-era drama “Angels in America.” Quinto told the magazine that his eight-month role in the epic Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tony Kushner was “the most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor and the most rewarding”; he took on the grueling role of Louis Ironson, a character who walks out on his AIDS-stricken boyfriend. “And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.” Quinto, who has been outspoken on gay rights issues in the past, told The New York Times last year that even though blogs were full of speculation about his orientation, he preferred “not to feed the rumor mill with either substantiation or dismissal.” But the events of the past year appear to have had an impact on him and Quinto seemed comfortable at this point announcing his orientation. Thinking about how the last few months have seen gay marriage legalized in New York while also marking the recent suicide of bullied gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer , Quinto said, “And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.” He was also glad to be in town promoting the financial crisis thriller “Margin Call” — the first feature from his production company, Before the Door Pictures — while hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters are camped out in New York’s Zuccotti Park . “The timing couldn’t be more impeccable for us to try to create a dialogue, which is exactly why we made the movie in the first place,” he said. While he’s in town to promote the film, Quinto said he planned to go down and see the protesters to get a flavor of the sit-in. “As a left-leaning Democrat, I feel a sense of resonance with their position,” he said. “But as a citizen of this country, I feel deeply unsettled that people are rising up in movements against each other. It feels like we’re missing the mark. … The bottom line is we’re all f—ed, and we’re all in this together.”

Britney Spears To Premiere ‘Criminal’ Video Next Week

‘Just saw the final cut of the Criminal video… It’s so hot,’ Britney tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ Criminal Photo: Jive/Sony Britney Spears is ready to release her cheeky clip for “Criminal” next week, Spears and director Chris Marrs Piliero confirmed Thursday (October 13) on Twitter. “Just saw the final cut of the Criminal video… It’s so hot. Can’t wait for you guys to see it next week,” the pop songstress tweeted . So when exactly will the video drop? A rep for the singer had no further details about the premiere when contacted by MTV News. Earlier this month, Piliero stayed pretty quiet about what fans should expect from the video, but he did gush about Spears’ performance on Twitter . “not a whole lot i’m allowed to say about the @britneyspears criminal vid other than that i love this video and can’t wait for it to come out,” he wrote. “oh and that she looks gorgeous in it… pretty sure it’s cool for me to say that…” Spears shot the video last month in London, right before kicking off the European leg of her Femme Fatale Tour. The video features Spears and real-life beau Jason Trawick. Little is known about what will happen in the video, but when Spears was photographed carrying a prop gun on set, politicians in the U.K. accused the star of glorifying violence after the London riots. The video was shot in Hackney, which was hit hard by the August riots, and local politicians were upset by what they saw as an insensitive gesture by Spears. “It is only a music video, but it’s images like this, with pop stars glamorizing gangs, which means that some young people … get drawn in,” Hackney’s Member of Parliament, Diane Abbott, told the ITV news program “London Tonight.” “Britney should really know better.” However, Spears shrugged off any criticisms in a statement to MTV News . “The video is a fantasy story featuring Britney’s boyfriend, Jason Trawick, which literally plays out the lyrics of a song written three years before the riots ever happened,” the statement read. Britney Spears Is A ‘Sweetheart,’ Destinee & Paris Say

‘I can’t even explain how amazing it is to be onstage every night and sharing it with a legend like Britney,’ Destinee tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Britney Spears Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Sisters Destinee and Paris Monroe aren’t typical teenagers preoccupied with homecoming, high school dances and weekly football games. The two siblings, former members of Clique Girlz, are living a real teenage dream: touring internationally as Destinee & Paris , readying their debut album — and warming up for Britney Spears . Following a brief Stateside stint with Spears this past August, the sisters remained one of the pop diva’s opening acts for the European leg of the Femme Fatale Tour . That road trip wraps November 9 in Lisbon, Portugal, before traveling to the United Arab Emirates, South America, Mexico and Puerto Rico. “I can’t even explain how amazing it is to be onstage every night and sharing it with a legend like Britney,” Destinee, 17, told MTV News on Tuesday via Skype from Zurich, Switzerland. “I mean, she’s been in this business forever and has really made a name for herself. To be performing before her is crazy. If somebody said to me 10 years ago that this is what we’d be doing — opening for Britney Spears — I’d be like, ‘OK, you’re crazy.’ ” The Grand Rapids, Michigan-born Monroe sisters, who also appeared as backup singers on the 10th season of “American Idol,” released their debut single “True Love” via Streamline/ Interscope Records in August. They admit that the one thing they still need to do while touring with Spears is sit down for a genuine conversation with the nearly 30-year-old singer. “Everything’s been so busy for us, so we haven’t gotten to really talk [to Britney],” said Paris, 15. “But we have said hi [to her] a few times and she’s just a sweetheart.” So if they do get a chance for some one-on-one time with Spears, what would they ask their idol? “I think that our number-one question would probably be how to deal with growing up in this industry,” Paris said. “If there’s anyone who knows the most about that, it’s obviously Britney. She’s had an amazing, long, successful career, so I think that would be the first thing we would talk to her about.” The blond sisters, who toured with the Jonas Brothers and the Backstreet Boys while still with the Clique Girlz, are planning to focus on their still-untitled debut album once the tour ends. “The album is still in the final stages of being worked out,” Paris said. “We released the single and we’re performing most of the songs on tour. I think once we’re off tour, we’re probably going to record some more songs, tweak the album a little more, make the final touches and release it. We want it to be really special.” What do you think of Destinee & Paris? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Britney Spears Destinee & Paris
