Jessica Simpson Likens Self to a Missionary

The Price of Beauty was more than a reality show to Jessica Simpson. It was a calling. “I’m not saying I’m changing the world,” a teary-eyed Simpson said, accepting an award at the Gracies (which honor women in radio and TV) in Beverly Hills. “But… to be able to sit down with my Dad and [create] The Price of Beauty , it’s similar to missionary work. It was what I was called to do and called to be.” Yes. Her calling was to create a VH1 show in which she, Ken Paves and CaCee Cobb traveled the world to explore definitions of beauty in various cultures. The Price of Beauty in Jess’ case is thousands of dollars a day . On the series, the always-astute one visited a “fattening hut” in Uganda, munched on some fried cockroaches in Thailand, and walked a couture runway in Paris, etc. Despite lackluster ratings and bad reviews , “it’s changing my life … women are strong and there is always a life to change, and you are powerful enough to do it!” The Gracies honored Jessica Simpson for strength and entrepreneurial endeavors in the face of adversity and public scrutiny. Seriously. She got a real award for this. Earlier in her speech, Simpson quipped, “I’m not used to people talking so nice about me,” and explained that she felt “called to the ministry” at church camp at 13. This is pretty much the exact same thing.

Russell Crowe Takes Us Inside Robin Hood’s Climactic Speech

‘Robin’s not a grandiose bloke,’ Crowe says of his everyman character. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Todd Gilchrist Russel Crowe Photo: MTV News Russell Crowe gives good speech. Throw on a DVD of “Gladiator” or “Master and Commander” and see for yourself: The dude can give such a killer pep talk, he’ll have you rising out of your La-Z-Boy to join whatever crusade he’s hyping. His rousing speech as the title character in “Robin Hood,” however, was of an entirely different nature and required a sufficiently distinct approach on Crowe’s part. Not that everyone around him, including director Ridley Scott, initially agreed with Crowe’s plan. “Robin’s not a grandiose bloke,” Crowe told MTV News. “Everybody around it was thinking that, ‘You have to take this one to the bank, man. You have to nail it. This has got to be like the moment from “Gladiator” when you said such and such.’ I was like, ‘Well, he’s not that guy.’ That guy was a general. He’s used to being in control and he can’t help but stamp himself on a moment. Robin’s just a bloke.” That is to say, Crowe’s Robin Hood does not begin the film as some steal-from-the-rich-give-to-the-poor superhero. In fact, this Robin is more concerned with self-preservation than anything approaching public altruism. What changes him is falling in love with a woman — the ethereal Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion — and learning the secret history of his father. And so when it comes time for Robin to confront the nefarious King John, who’s gone off on a quest to tax almost every last penny from his indigent subjects, Crowe brings a sort of everyman attitude to his speech. “You’ve got to be real in this moment,” he explained. “You are talking to a king, so you can only go so far. He’s got to know his place. It’s not interesting if he takes a contemporary attitude and goes, ‘I don’t f—ing care if you’re a king.’ You’ve got to stay in that pocket. “Take the cape off him, take the mask, he’s just a man,” he added. Bret Michaels Leaves Hospital, Expected To Make Full Recovery

Poison frontman is receiving physical therapy and being monitored after his massive brain hemorrhage. By Eric Ditzian Bret Michaels Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Bret Michaels has been discharged from Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix almost two weeks after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage , his doctor announced in a televised press conference on Tuesday (May 4). The Poison frontman is currently resting in an undisclosed location, where he is receiving physical therapy and being monitored. “He’s walking. He’s not walking very well. He’s talking very well, and he’s very mentally aware,” Dr. Joseph M. Zabramski said, adding, “He’ll fortunately make a 100 percent recovery.” Following a third angiogram that determined no aneurysm had taken place in his brain and that bleeding was no longer occurring, Michaels’ condition was downgraded from critical to stable. Zabramski was not at liberty to say where Michaels had been transferred but did say that airplane flight was not prohibited for someone in his condition. The 47-year-old singer will receive a fourth angiogram in two weeks to monitor his progress. While Michaels’ recovery continues, Zabramski said he is “really suffering again right now.” The reason for the suffering is that as the blood clot from his hemorrhage begins to “clear,” the clot’s various “blood products” create painful irritation inside the skull and along the spine. Steroids can usually be administered to mitigate the irritation, but Michaels’ diabetes prevents the use of such drugs. A clot can take seven to 10 days to clear, Zabramski said. Zabramski also said that Michaels’ situation was an extremely lucky one. Fifteen to 20 percent of people who suffer subarachnoid hemorrhages die before they can even reach a hospital. An additional 20 percent arrive at a hospital with severe deficits that assure lifelong cognitive and physical issues. While Michaels arrived at the hospital with slurred speech and memory lapses, Zabramski said that by the next day, his speech had returned to normal. The singer might continue to have problems with back pain and new problems with headaches but is expected to make a full recovery and is not at a higher risk to suffer a hemorrhage again. Asked when Michaels might resume his regular activities, Zabramski said he sees about four to six weeks of continued rest for the singer. But he went on to caution: “What I made him promise me is that he would not make any promises.” Share your well-wishes for Bret in the comments below. April 22 is Earth Day: Happy 40th Anniversary

April 22, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson way back April 22, 1970. It was designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. During his speech in 1970, Nelson said “Our goal is not just an environment of clean air and water and scenic beauty. The objective is an environment of decency, quality and mutual respect for all other human being and all living creatures.” It has been estimated that 1.5 billion people from all race, religion and gender will come together for this worthwhile cause, and get involved in a number of activities and events. As inhabitants of this planet, it just rightful that we should celebrate Earth Day not only during April 22 but everyday of our lives. This earth that we have allowed us to have a place to live and as we pack, it is our duty to take care of it. April 22 is Earth Day: Happy 40th Anniversary is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Russell Crowe Honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

He’s thrown phones at people in fits of rage, and he once helped Martha Stewart murder a chicken . But Russell Crowe is also one of the best actors of his generation, an Oscar winner and a multiple-time Best Actor nominee. The native Australian was honored for those achievements yesterday, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He posed at the event (below) with his family, wife Danielle and sons Charles and Tennyson, ages 6 and 3, respectively. As for his next project, Crowe will star as Robin Hood. The film opens on May 14, but he must apologize to all female fans: the handsome actor won’t be donning any tights. “They weren’t invented until quite a few hundred years after when the story takes place,” he said. “We start our story in 1199. Tights don’t come into play until the 1600s. I do apologize to those who will be disappointed that there are no tights.” Check out a few more photos of Crowe celebrating his latest honor: [Photos: Splash News]

The Sarah Palin Pregnancy. What are the odds?

One of the arguments that I hear all of the time against the idea that Sarah faked her pregnancy is this one, “What are the odds that

Papa Heath explains family’s use of Canadian health care and accidentally calls daughter Sarah Palin out on one of her lies.

(Photo courtesy of Dennis Zaki) So as everybody and the their brother know by now, Sarah Palin has told two very different stories about her brother jumping through a campfire and burning his foot which required medical treatment either in Canada, or possibly Juneau, depending on which version you prefer. But what we have NOT known is exactly which version is the TRUE version. That is until now. The AP managed to interview the always loquacious, and often out of the loop, Chuck “I saw the baby pop out” Heath. And here is what Papa Heath had to say. “There was no road out of there at that time,” said retired teacher Chuck Heath, reached by phone in Wasilla. “The ferry schedule was very erratic. We had no doctor in Skagway. The plane schedule was very erratic. The winds dictated whether the planes could come in or not.” Palin’s father said his family probably boarded the train for the Whitehorse hospital only twice — once when a daughter had rheumatic fever, and once when his son, also named Chuck, severely burned his leg and an infection set in. “We much preferred to use our facilities because my insurance didn’t cover anything in Whitehorse. And even though they have socialized medicine, I still had to pay the bill, being an American citizen,” Heath said. Heath worked part-time for the White Pass & Yukon Railroad and had a pass allowing him and his family to ride for free. So there you go, end of story. Yes the Heaths took their kids to Canada (probably no more than two times) to use their medical facilities. But there is no scandal here because being American citizens they could not take advantage of Canada’s socialized health care so Papa Heath paid the bill in good old American dollars. So all of those people saying that Sarah is a hypocrite for attacking the Obama health care plan by calling it “socialized medicine” are wrong since Sarah and her family did NOT use socialized health care! Well…that is until she married Todd..which allowed their children access to the Alaska Native Hospital…which I guess…still kind of makes her a hypocrite. Holy crap! It is just impossible to defend this woman isn’t it? No wonder Meg quit! Well at least we can finally stop talking about this “burned foot” story and move on to the nex…wait…am I forgetting something? Okay, according to Sarah’s dad the family went to Whitehorse to fix up her brother’s burned foot just like she said during her speech in Canada, but isn’t there some other version of this story that Sarah also told? Say to the Skagway News back in 2007? Palin drew from her Skagway past to illustrate her point. Her brother burned his foot badly jumping through a fire, and her mother had to take him down to Juneau on the ferry to the hospital. “All these years later, that’s still what people have to rely on here in some instances,” she said. Well gee Sarah your own father just called bullshit on the story you told the Skagway News. And do you know the ironic part? It would be this quote from that same article: A proud father, Chuck Heath, said later that his daughter was honest to the core. Really? “Honest to the core”? Sarah Palin? You see the real story here is that Sarah Palin is a liar. She lies as easily and as often as other people fill their lungs with air. She does it cover for something she did. She does it to make herself seem important or special. And sometimes she does for no good reason at all, just because she can. And she will continue to do it as long as the media lets her get away with it, and as long as there are people like RAM, C4P, and Fox News willing to provide cover for her. (Do you want to know a secret? I found this AP story over on C4P. They were using it to discredit the people calling Palin out for her Canadian health care story. Don’tcha just love it?)

Palin invades Canada! In retaliation Canucks contemplating using rude language!

So Sarah actually decided it was time to finally leave the safe Christian soil of the good ole US of A and travel to Canada with their cold induced eternally erect liberal nipples and their evil fascist socialized medicine. Yes Sarah was taking a huge risk of being attacked by Canada’s uber-liberal media or, worse yet, of being ignored by Canada’s uber-liberal media. So how did she do? Well according to Canadian reporter Colby Cash it was a struggle just to make it through her speech. Strongest line of the night–most heartfelt–is her description of debt as “immoral”. Her clickety-clack pace of statistics and factoids is held up for a moment as she speaks slowly about the intergenerational unfairness of public insolvency. Soon, however, she returns to her exhausting regular rhythm. It’s a struggle to maintain attention. Mr. Cash took copious notes and if you click his highlighted name you can share his pain. This next reporter reveals that apparently in the past (now hold onto your heads tightly Palin-bots this might cause them to explode!) Sarah’s family had received socialized health care from Canada ! Here is a direct quote from Sarah herself: “My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not – this was in the ‘60s – we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada.” OH…MY…GOD! Can you believe that Sarah Palin’s family were a bunch of socialists? Well thank God, and Todd, that she married an Alaskan native so that her family could receive free government subsidized health care in the good ole US….hey wait a minute! Is that hypocrisy I smell? Well the important thing is that she did great in Calgary, so we Alaskans can finally be proud of Sarah for once. Though reporter Colby Cash returns to tell us that the deck may have been heavily stacked in Palin’s favor for this particular speech. In no other Canadian city of equal size would her denunciation of “snake-oil” climate science have been greeted with such unrestrained, joyous roars by a very elite, very wealthy audience. (The Palomino Room was saturated with old Reformers, including Stockwell Day. At the end of the festivities, Ralph Klein, perhaps eager for refreshment, came blasting down the aisle in my direction at the approximate speed of a maglev train.) I’m not sure there is even an American city where Palin’s climate skepticism and drill-or-be-damned pro-fossil stance would have been so well-received. Certainly there can’t be one where an appearance by Palin would be beset by a grand total of one (1) poor sad-sack anarchist protester. I know in Edmonton there’d be 20. (It’s the same 20 every time no matter what’s being protested.) Ahh now I get it! But you know what is of particular interest to me is that, at least so far, there has been no mention by the media of a Trig Palin sighting. We hear Piper mentioned a number of times, but Sarah’s favorite prop is nowhere to be found. Which of course just lends itself to feeding the “conspiracy” about Trig’s birth because of course he could not travel into Canada without a birth certificate, and that thing is more elusive than the Loch Ness Monster! Things that make you go “Hmm”. (And while we are on the topic of babies, I would also be interested if anybody stumbles across a mention of Tripp Johnston either. I still have a few lingering questions about that child as well.) Just to close this post out, and since I cannot think of a good closer right now, I will leave you with this very humorous video sent to me by commenter bondwooley, called “Last of the Last Straws”. Watch until the end you will love it, I promise.)
