Seahawks Defensive End Michael Bennett Refuses To Go On NFL Trip To Israel The Israeli government was set to sponsor a trip for NFL players to visit their country as “ambassadors”. However, considering the long history of social injustice and human rights violations in the region, the athletes are being urged not to participate as pawns in this publicity stunt. An open letter was published by TheNation from activist icons Angela Davis, Alice Walker, and socially conscious former athletes Juan Carlos and Craig Hodges made the case as to why the ballers should withdraw: Based on the public dedication to social justice that many of you share, it came as a surprise to us to see that you will be going on a tour of Israel next week sponsored by the Israeli government as part of an effort to get you to “become ambassadors of goodwill for Israel.” We would ask that you reconsider attending. These trips bringing celebrities to Israel are part of a larger “Brand Israel” campaign to help the Israeli government normalize and whitewash its ongoing denial of Palestinian rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dedicated a lot of resources to this campaign, which is designed explicitly to improve Israel’s image abroad to counter worldwide outrage over its massacres and war crimes. Speaking about your trip, Israel’s head of Strategic Affairs and Public Diplomacy Minister Gilad Erdan said, “The ministry which I lead is spearheading an intensive fight against the delegitimization and BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanction] campaigns against Israel, and part of this struggle includes hosting influencers and opinion-formers of international standing in different fields, including sport.” In other words, they are aiming to use your fame to advance their own agenda: an agenda that comes at the expense of the Palestinian people. Lupita’s got a helluva baaaaawdy, no? In addition to being on the promo run, Lupita’s also covering Time Out London and dishing on the film’s all African cast. The film’s the story of an African chess prodigy and has no white characters. Were you surprised that Disney didn’t want to, say, stick Leonardo DiCaprio in there to make it more ‘palatable’? ‘It’s very refreshing. It’s all thanks to Tendo Nagenda, who is of Ugandan descent and he’s an executive at Disney. He saw the magic in this story, and you know Disney loves magic. It takes people like that – people in positions of power – who are unafraid of the global. Because the world is made up of all sorts of people. We share more than we differ. It’d be a long night for anybody to try and figure out who won what throughout multiple posts so we figured we’d make it easy. Here’s every Black actor that won an award for the show, what category they won, and who they won it against. Sterling K. Brown (pictured above) won an Emmy for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie” for his role as Christopher Darden in The People Vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story. He also gave a shout out to “the hottest chick in the game wearing [his] chain.” No, not Beyonce. He was talking about his wife. Courtney B. Vance won an Emmy for “Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie” for his role as Johnnie Cochran in The People Vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story. Vance was against Bryan Cranston, in All the Way , Benedict Cumberbatch, in Sherlock: The Abominable Bride , Idris Elba in Luther , Cuba Gooding Jr. in The People vs. O.J. Simpson , and Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager . This is Vance’s first Emmy win. Vance, like Brown, made sure to shout out his beautiful wife Angela Bassett.
