Maurice White Dead At Age 74 Another sad day for R&B/Soul , as the legendary band Earth, Wind, and Fire lost one of its original members. Maurice White had battled Parkinson’s disease for nearly 25 years before finally succumbing to complications from the disease early this morning. Via TMZ : Maurice White, co-founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, died in his sleep Thursday morning … TMZ has learned. Maurice died in L.A. after a long battle with Parkinson’s. He was diagnosed in 1992 and his condition deteriorated in recent months. The disease had progressed to the point he was forced to stop touring in with the band 1994. The band had a string of hits, including “Shining Star,” “September,” “Boogie Wonderland,” and “After the Love has Gone.” Maurice’s brother, Verdine, is also a band member. Although Maurice wasn’t touring, he remained involved in the decisions involving the band. Maurice was 74. RIP So sad. NFL To Adopt A “Rooney Rule” To Help Women Get Jobs As Executives The National Football Association has long been on a mission to appear more inclusive to minorities and they are now taking steps to make women feel welcome as well according to NYDailyNews … NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday at the NFL Women’s Summit that the league will institute a Rooney Rule for women seeking executive positions. Teams will have to interview at least one woman for all executive roles. The Rooney Rule, named after Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who’s chairman of the league’s diversity committee, is an edict established in 2003 which requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for a head-coaching vacancy. The rule has come under scrutiny for failing to result in an increased number of minority head coaches; of the league’s 32 teams, there are just six minority head coaches. Teams have been accused of interviewing minority candidates simply to comply with the rule while already knowing they were hiring a white candidate. The league has already seen a slight increase in the women who have been hired as coaches this year… The Bills hired the NFL’s first full-time assistant coach last month, Kathryn Smith, as special teams quality control coach. That move came after Jen Welter coached the Cardinals’ inside linebackers during Arizona’s training camp last summer, while Sarah Thomas became the league’s first female official this past season. We’re sure some neanderthal will find some dumbazz reasons that this rule shouldn’t be in place, but the fact is that women are more than capable of contributing to the NFL, and their thoughts and energy could most certainly help a team looking to win a Super Bowl championship. There are certain interviews that are painful to watch. Beyond painful. Excruciating. And wouldn't you know, this particular one involves Farrah Abraham. The Teen Mom star attended the 2016 AVM Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas last month, where she was hawking her products and granting interviews to privileged reporters. SLAPTV's Roberto Raad spoke with Abraham, and – bless him – he was a trooper. It's not clear if Raad recognized Abraham or not, because he asked her about her favorite “set” experience, something he asked other stars at the Expo (and BTW, they were great sports). “Um, I haven't had a set experience. So, that's funny,” Abraham responded awkwardly. They went back and forth on whether Raad said “set” or “sex,” before Abraham clarified who she was and what she doing at the Expo. “I'm known for a celebrity sex tape. That's what I'm known for, so…” she trailed off. “Okay, so you are known for a celebrity sex tape , okay,” he asked. “And um, well, who is the celebrity?” Hah! “I am!” Abraham said, shocked that he didn't recognize her (new?) face. “I think this is probably the worst f**king interview I've even been in,” she continued. “I think maybe you should re-question being an interviewer.” Raad switched gears, hoping to get at least something useful out of Abraham. Did she think Leonardo DiCaprio was finally going to win Best Actor for his role in The Revenant ? “Okay, so Leo, who is he and why do you believe he will win?” Abraham asked. “Oh my god, I don't know where or what we are talking about.” Neither do we, Farrah. Neither do we. But as someone who's done interviews with talent, being rude to the reporter when they are trying to be as professional and polite as possible is bad form.

Brandon Marshall Doesn’t Think Race Is A Factor In Public’s Dislike Of Cam Newton As the 50th Super Bowl fast approaches there will be continued talk about lightning rod “quarterblack” Cam Newton and how his flamboyant personality and bravado rub (white) people the wrong way. Much of the talk surrounds the color of Cam’s skin, but New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall doesn’t seem to think race is a real issue. According to his comments on the Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore , he thinks it’s about something else… “It’s a generational thing and I just stick to that,” Marshall said on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. “I don’t think it’s racial. I just think that there’s a box that we put our quarterbacks in and we say, ‘This is how you’re supposed to be. This is how Peyton Manning did it, this is how Joe Montana did it, Tom Brady, so you do it the same way.’” Not sure how Brandon can ignore the racial component of the thing, but he seems to admire Cam for using his voice: “I commend him because back in the day our athletes and entertainers used to be civil rights leaders. They used to speak up,” Marshall said. “But now, the business has taken over. You have these brands like Under Armour, Nike and Beats by Dre and the yogurt thing (Dannon) that he endorsed. They come in, they tell you, ‘you know what, just be a good boy, shut your mouth and collect your check.’” “I am one of those guys that, if I have an opinion I’m going to to say it. I guess that’s why I’m on my fourth team,” Marshall added, with a smile. Another topic often broached when talking about why Cam Newton isn’t liked is his infamous dab touchdown dance. Brandon seems to have a hard time making up his mind about that part… “I don’t want my quarterback dancing,” Marshall said. “I’m from the old school…I want my quarterbacks to get back in the huddle and lead us.” But then he turned right back around and complimented Newton. “But what we have to understand is this is the new generation. This is what they’re doing next. They’re disruptive, they’re disrespectful, they don’t give a damn about any one, and I kind of like it,” Marshall said. “Go back to when he was a rookie and he said, ‘I want to be an icon.’ You want to be an icon, you can’t stay in the box, you have to get out of the box, you have to be disruptive.” Based on these responses, we’re not sure if Brandon really rocks with Cam or not, but we can definitely say that race plays at least SOME factor in why people aren’t quick in embrace Cam.
