BROWN/AFP/Getty Images Her Family Releases A Statement Detailing The Incident On Monday night, a University of Utah student was shot and killed allegedly by an ex who lied about his criminal past. Lauren McCluskey , an accomplished track-and-field athlete, was found dead in a parked car near a campus residential hall, according to ESPN . Mark Harlan, the University of Utah director of athletics, released a statement on Twitter about McCluskey’s death. “This news has shaken not only myself but our entire University of Utah athletics family to its core,” he said. “We have university counselors and psychologists on standby to support Lauren’s teammates, coaches and friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and all of those dear to her.” McCluskey’s killer was suspected to be Melvin Rowland, who was found dead in a church in Salt Lake City on Tuesday from a self-inflicted gun wound, according to a KUTV reporter . According to KUTV , McCluskey’s parents released a statement sharing the details around their daughter’s death. According to them, Rowland was an ex-boyfriend who harassed McCluskey after she found out about his criminal past: “He lied to her about his name, his age and his criminal history,” the family statement read. “Lauren was informed by a friend about his criminal history, and she ended the relationship with her killer on Oct. 9, 2018. He had borrowed her car, and she requested for the University of Utah police accompany her on Oct. 10, 2018 to get the car back. She blocked his and his friends’ phone numbers and complained to University of Utah police that she was being harassed. Last night a little before 9 p.m., she was returning to her university apartment from her night class and talking to me on the phone. Suddenly, I heard her yell, “No, no, no!” I thought she might have been in a car accident. That was the last I heard from her. My husband called 911. I kept the line open and in a few minutes, a young woman picked up the phone and said all of Lauren’s things were on the ground.” According to ESPN , Rowland was a registered sex offender, who was convicted of forcible sexual abuse and enticing a minor. The school decided to honor McCluskey by canceling morning and evening classes on Tuesday. A vigil is also scheduled for Wednesday planned by The Associated Students of the University of Utah and the Athletics Department.

The football team at an all Black private school in Prince George’s County, Md., has decided to follow in Colin Kaepernick’s footsteps and take a knee during the National Anthem. The team first broached the idea of taking a knee with new coach, Cornell Wade, in late August, according to NBC News . The first game of the season was a few days away. Josiah Gill, 17, spoke for the team when he said they understood. “We’re taking a knee because of inequality as a whole,” Gill said, according to the NBC News article. “We’re aware of what’s going on in this country as young black males.” “A lot of people love football,” Gill added. “You have them coming from places to see you do something, and why not take a knee, why not do this to show we see what’s going on in the world?” Like many American teenagers, Gill and his teammates have followed the debate over NFL players who kneel to call attention to racial injustice and police bias. As the league and team owners work to figure out how to penalize those players who protest, a handful of high schools around the country have confronted the issue as well. In some places where student-athletes knelt they were punished, or even kicked off of the team. Outside of Houston, two Black football players at a private Christian school who protested during the national anthem were kicked off the team by their white coach. When members of a mostly Black high school football team in Louisiana knelt before a game against a mostly white school, they were met with jeers and racial slurs. And in New Jersey , two referees at a high school football game walked off the field after players knelt, later saying they didn’t like “anyone disrespecting our country, our flag, the armed forces,” according to NBC News . Some schools have banned the protest, but at Capital Christian Academy, Gill and other players are still kneeling. According to ABCNews , some wilted, WASPy woman who works as a “field marshal”, whatever-the-f**k THAT is, alerted deputies to a Black man who was allegedly harrassing a referee. Here’s what ACTUALLY happened. The referee made what was descibed as a bad call, the father ran out to tell his son not to worry about it and play ball. This Zimmerman-esque field heffa decided that she had to slather her mayo mindset all over the situation by intervening. The unidentified father told the field heffa that he wasn’t talking to the ref, but rather his son. The father even offered to rectify the situation on his own accord to avoid trouble. “They had a bad call with my son and … I said, ‘Hey, the ref was right.’ She thought I was yelling at the ref. So, she came over and I was like, ‘No ma’am, I was yelling at my son. Nobody else,’” the father is heard telling deputies who responded to the scene. This miserable bish STILL called the cops. At this point another white woman, Ginger Williams, began filming the father’s interaction with the cops because she heard the field heffa utter the classic phrase that white women say when interacting with Black men: “I no longer feel safe due to your threatening behavior.” Luckily, Williams and several other parents spoke to the cop to assure him that the field heffa was full of s#!t. Ultimately the father was not detained and all was well. But imagine how far left this COULD have gone…
