Complex Announces ComplexCon – The First Cultural World’s Fair For This Generation COMPLEX announced today the launch of ComplexCon , the first-ever, first of its kind festival and exhibition created to bring together pop culture, art, music, food, style, sports, and more. The inaugural event will take place in Long Beach, CA November 5-6, 2016. World renowned renaissance man Pharrell Williams and i am OTHER have signed on to help create ComplexCon. In this capacity, Pharrell will work both in front and behind the scenes as the Cultural Director and Host Committee Chair for the event. Of his involvement, Pharrell explains, “I’m inspired by a myriad of different events I’ve had the fortune of being a part of…whether they’ve focused on art, design, music, food or science. When i am OTHER connected with Marc Ecko and the COMPLEX team, we were instantly aligned – we wanted to combine a little bit of all these elements and create a unique, new initiative.” Takashi Murakami (Left) Joining Pharrell as the first Host Committee member for the event, internationally prolific contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is responsible for designing the event’s brand identity and will lend his oversight to the overall design and aesthetic experience. “ When Marc Ecko approached me about being on the host committee, I met with him in their office on 50th street and felt firsthand the good vibe and untamed, youthful energy they possess,” says Murakami. “It was that spirit that led me to participate in the project. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!” ReedPop, the producers of New York’s Comic-Con and Agenda, have partnered with COMPLEX to create a unique event that will bring together a consumer experience carefully curated by the most influential minds in the world to life. Johnson & Johnson Ordered To Pay Woman With Ovarian Cancer $55M Remember back in February when Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $72 million to the family of a woman who died of ovarian cancer? Well… per KTLA : Johnson & Johnson has suffered its second costly court defeat in less than three months over claims its talcum powder caused cancer. And many more cases are looming. A jury in St. Louis awarded $55 million in damages to Gloria Ristesund, who used Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder for more than 35 years before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011. Ristesund’s lawyers argued that Johnson & Johnson knew of possible health risks associated with talc, but failed to warn consumers. “Internal documents from J & J show it knew of studies connecting talc use and ovarian cancer but, to this day, it continues to market it as safe — neglecting any warning,” The Onder Law Firm, which represented Ristesund, said in a statement. Johnson & Johnson said it plans to appeal the verdict. “Multiple scientific and regulatory reviews have determined that talc is safe for use in cosmetic products and the labeling on Johnson’s Baby Powder is appropriate,” Carol Goodrich, a spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson Consumer, said in a statement.
