Snoop Dogg may be a rapper, actor, music mogul and pop culture icon, but that doesn’t mean he can’t shop for a bargain: Dude won $72,000 on The Price is Right! Appearing on the show to benefit his youth football league, he flat out raked it in as he assisted contestants playing for a good cause, having a blast in the process. Snoop said it was his favorite show to watch when he skipped school as a kid, which we imagine was often: “The feeling was still here. It’s like it never left.” Snoop Dogg on The Price is Right On a more poignant and serious note, the one time gangsta added, “The Snoop Youth Football League is something that we created over seven years ago.” “It’s meant to help inner city kids with all the gang violence and drugs and negativity. I wanted to start something positive that could be here 20 years from now.” Hard not to tip your hat to the Doggfather on that one.

From Jennifer Lopez joining ‘American Idol’ to Charlie Sheen’s meltdown, some of the year’s biggest news stories seem like distant memories. By John Mitchell Rebecca Black in her “Friday” video Photo: Ark Music Factory Every major entertainment news story has a life cycle. First it breaks and is inescapable as every detail of the event takes on an aura of significance (think the carat count on Britney Spears’ engagement ring ). With interest still high but new information scarce, the analysis begins. We reporters look to experts to see what it all means and to fans to find out what they think and how they feel about what’s gone down. There are follow-ups and roundups as bright and shiny fresh news bits come together with what we already know to tell the whole story. Then the whole thing kind of dies as interest wanes and everybody moves on to the next big thing. Most major stories end up feeling like little time capsules and we never forget when they happened. Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” is as tied to 2011 as Beyonc
Daily debates will pick best song, artist of the year. By Gil Kaufman There are a lot of things to celebrate this time of year. But when you spend all day (and some of the night) obsessing about music, naturally your thoughts turn to best-of lists as December dawns. That’s why MTV and MTV.com will launch a weeklong celebration of the year in music on December 12 in which our experts will debate the year’s best songs, artists and performances. For the first time ever, MTV is corralling staffers from MTV News, MTV.com and MTV Music and Talent to collaborate on three different year-end lists: EDM (electronic dance artist of the year), song of the year and artist of the year. Beginning Monday, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET, during MTV’s morning music hours on AMTV, editors from MTV News, MTV Music & Talent, and MTV.com will take part in a spirited debate, where they will reveal their collective choices for best EDM (electronic dance artist of the year), joined by MTV Iggy. On Wednesday, we’ll unveil the Song of the Year and on Thursday we’ll name our Artist of the Year. During AMTV, the panel will count down their selections from #10 to #3, leaving the audience in limbo to debate the lists and ponder which acts will take the top spots. Each day at 4:59 p.m. ET, MTV News’ Sway Calloway will reveal the top choices and present the award to the #1 pick. After the winner is revealed, the acceptance speech will run sporadically throughout our primetime hours. The debates will also be featured on mtvU and MTV Hits, and extensive news stories will be featured on MTV News and various MTV.com sites. In addition to the panel-selected lists, for the first time, MTV is asking fans to vote on MTV’s best live musical performance of the year and support their favorite artist and song by tweeting #MTVBest2011 . The nominees span MTV’s various award shows and concert series including MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Unplugged, mtvU Woodie Awards, O Music Awards, Live in NYC, Spring Break, mtvU Movies and Music Fest and Buzzworthy Live. Nominees include Adele’s “Someone Like You” from the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Odd Future’s “Sandwiches” and “Yonkers” from the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards, 30 Seconds to Mars’ “Hurricane” from MTV Unplugged, Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” from the O Music Awards 2 and Two Door Cinema Club’s “What You Know” from Live In NYC. The top-voted performances will be revealed during MTV’s AMTV between 8am-9am ET on Wednesday, December 14, with the two top fan selections revealed by Sway later that day at 4:59 p.m. ET. Thank you, Diddy. Thank you. The rapper has, for whatever reason (not that he needed one) released a new coffee table book titled Culo, which means buttocks in Italian. You can guess what’s in it. Diddy, record executive Jimmy Iovine and photographer Raphael Mazzucco teamed up to compile an artistic, memorable 248-page pictorial expose on female butts. Chief among them? Lady Gaga. Girl’s got back, who knew! Lady Gaga was born this way, baby. Well, sans tattoo . Yeah. After all her ridiculous fashion over the years, who would have guessed one of the more shocking Lady Gaga photos out there would feature her wearing nothing. “Raphael is a true artist,” says Diddy of Mazzucco, the man behind the image above. “He relies on pure instinct, capturing a raw, natural sense of beauty through his lens that celebrates the female form. His work is passionate and powerful.” That’s a verbose way of spinning a book about asses, but we’ll buy it. Actually, no. Sadly, Pippa Middleton does not appear. Boycott it.
Joe Paterno, the Penn State football coach who was fired last week due to his role in a child molestation cover-up , has been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer. His son, Scott, said the diagnosis took place last week and released the following statement: “He is currently undergoing treatment and his doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery. As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment.” Penn State remains under intense scrutiny and investigation for the alleged actions of ex-assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, who faces 40 counts of sexual abuse charges stemming from his interactions with young boys on and off the university’s campus. He recently admitted to showering with these young teens.

In the spring of 2005, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes met. They hit it off immediately and began a whirlwind romance, which many people felt was a publicity stunt. Many people are eating serious helpings of crow now. Their first date was said to be a sushi dinner aboard Tom’s private plane and later that month, they were exclusive. By April of 2006, they had a daughter, Suri. Then in November 18 of that year, TomKat became lovingly joined in matrimony. Yep, today’s there five-year anniversary. That’s like 25 in Hollywood years! Tom Cruise takes a lot of flack for being kind of out there in his own world, but let’s face it, he and Katie are not only harmless, but a model relationship in many ways. We don’t know them personally, but neither goes out of their way to seek attention and both seem like attentive parents and spouses. Quirky, maybe, but who’s not? With so much coverage devoted to Kim Kardashian and Ashton Kutcher , it’s nice to see a marriage working out, isn’t it? Granted, it’s his third. But they try! Hard! It seems like forever ago that Cruise, who’s now filming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol , was jumping on couches and warring with Matt Lauer like a loon. We kinda miss those days, but we’re glad he’s happier and mellower with Katie these days. Happy anniversary, TomKat, and happy weekend, THG readers … Tom Cruise Jumps on Oprah’s Couch

‘I think a lot of people don’t realize that I came up doing mixtapes,’ singer tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Mike Posner Photo: Getty Images Celebrity Favorites: Mike Posner Don’t let Mike Posner ‘s pop success fool you: The boy is as hip-hop as they come. Before he cracked the Billboard top 10 with his debut single “Cooler Than Me,” the Duke grad was slinging free mixtapes like rappers do. On Sunday, the raspy-voice singer is going to return to what he knows when he drops his Layover mixtape. Since his first album was 31 Minutes to Take Off and his spring 2012 follow-up will be titled Sky High, Mike figured The Layover would be the perfect title for an in-between project. “I think a lot of people don’t realize that I came up doing mixtapes,” Posner told Mixtape Daily. “My first mixtape was with [DJ Don] Cannon that I made in my dorm room when I was a student at Duke, and ‘Cooler Than Me’ was a song on that mixtape that I recorded in my dorm room.” So even with all his success, Mike still has love for the mixtape grind. “It is incredibly important for me to reach back to my roots, and kind of do what I came up doing again,” he said. Posner once again recruited Don Cannon to help him put the tape together, and this time out, he’s collaborating with Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T., Bun B and Twista too. “I really took it back to the basics with this tape,” he explained. “I brought Cannon back in, Big Sean’s on the tape, Big K.R.I.T.’s on the tape, and I’m doing the remixes of songs and kind of like hip-hop-ifying classic non-hip-hop songs.” One such song is Elton John’s 1972 classic “Rocket Man.” Posner threw new synths and pulsating drums under the classic melody. While he adds his own swag to Elton’s lyrics, Mike also enlisted Bun B to add a verse for a 2011 upgrade. That’s not all: On “Wonderfall,” the Detroit singer/producer redoes Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and adds Big K.R.I.T. to the mix. All in all, it’s a refreshing, genre-bending take on some classic music.
