Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber Share A Dating ‘Philosophy’

‘If you’re in love, you’re in love to the fullest,’ singer/actress tells Cosmopolitan. By Jocelyn Vena Photo: Cosmopolitan Selena Gomez turns the big 2-0 later this year, and she seems to be leaving her tween image behind. The 19-year-old is the latest teen star to appear on the cover of Cosmopolitan, following last month’s issue of the women’s magazine, featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning. For her first cover for the magazine, Gomez dons a low-cut, floral-print dress as she looks rather seductively into the camera. She’s sitting with her one leg perched in front of her body, displaying a saucier side of herself than fans might be used to seeing. Inside the issue, she’s talking all about love, opening up about her longtime boyfriend, Justin Bieber. “I’m just like every 19-year-old girl,” she said. “If you’re in love, you’re in love to the fullest, and you just want to go to the movies, hang out, and be as normal as possible. I’m fortunate that I’ve found someone who has that philosophy.” In another Cosmo quote floating around online, Gomez dishes on a past boyfriend (Taylor Lautner? Nick Jonas?) who didn’t make things as easy on her. “I was in a relationship previously where I had to hide everything and it wasn’t my choice. I had to go through different exits and take separate cars and do the craziest things, and it just really wasn’t worth it,” she explained. “It was like a year of my life completely wasted.” The more mature magazine cover comes as Gomez prepares for the next phase of her career . In the coming weeks, she’ll hit the set for her next film, the more adult-themed “Spring Breakers,” which follows a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. When they land in jail, a drug and arms dealer bails them out, and they quickly become entangled with him and his business. “It’s a different character than I have ever played before,” she told MTV News about the film, which will be directed by “Kids” mastermind Harmony Korine. “It’s a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing me in. What you’re going to see is more raw, I think. It’s going to be raw and more about acting.” What do you think about Selena’s grown-up image? Let us know in the comments! Diddy ‘Playful But Serious’ About Machine Gun Kelly Arrest

‘I talked to Puff today, and he’s like, ‘It’s all good,’ ‘ Bad Boy rapper tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Machine Gun Kelly Photo: MTV News When Diddy first announced that he signed Machine Gun Kelly to Bad Boy Records, he said he wanted the Cleveland, Ohio, breakout to stay “true to himself.” Since the deal, the “Wild Boy” rapper doesn’t seem to have changed very much. And after his arrest for misdemeanor disorderly conduct on Sunday morning, Puff didn’t seem too bent out of shape. “@machinegunkelly where the f— are you at? Are you ok? Do you need Bail or a lawyer?????!! Eveyrone hit him to see if he’s ok,” Diddy wrote jokingly on Twitter . “@machinegunkelly WtF!!!!!! Call me at miami crib now!!!!! Everyone hit him and tell him to call me NOW!!!!! Pls thanks!!!!” “You can tell he’s, like, playful with it, but there’s a serious tone behind [it],” Machine Gun Kelly told MTV News on Monday (January 30) about his boss’ reaction to the incident in a Florida club that led to the arrest. “I talked to Puff today, and he’s like, ‘It’s all good. Do what you do. You did what you had to do.’ ” Diddy was very understanding — that is, until he misread a tweet while on the phone with Kells, which led him to believe his new prot

Wow. Sophia Stockton, a junior at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, ordered a textbook called Terrorism: Challenges, Perspectives and Issues for her Spring semester. After flipping through the pages on Monday she “discovered a bag of white powder had fallen to the ground,” the station reports. Fearing the mysterious substance was anthrax, the college brought the bag to the local police department the next day. “I told them white powder was in my terrorism textbook and so I put it on the table and they’re like ‘oh, okay,’ and so he went back and tested,” Stockton told WPTV. “He comes back and says ‘you didn’t happen to order some cocaine with your textbook, did you?’ And I was like, ‘no!’” The police estimated there may have been up to $400 worth of cocaine in the baggie, and officials are investigating where the drugs may have come from, according to WTPTV. Stockton had purchased the pre-owned textbook through Warehouse Deals, an Amazon storefront that offers “deep discounts on open-box, like-new, refurbished or used products that are in good condition but do not meet Amazon.com’s rigorous standards of ‘new.’” Warehouse Deals guarantees all its items are inspected prior to sale, and Stockton could potentially file a claim that the book was “not the item depicted in the seller’s description,” but the student is choosing to take a diplomatic position. Bow Wow ‘Needed To Live Life’ To Make Underrated

‘I had to go through a lot of things for me to be able to write the type of things I’m writing now,’ Bow tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Bow Wow on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Bow Wow has grown up in hip-hop, but in order to deliver his upcoming seventh album, Underrated, the Cash Money MC had to go through some real-life experiences. “I feel like with this album, it’s so different, because I had to live life to make this album,” the 24-year old rapper told Sway when he visited “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “I had to go through a lot of things for me to be able to write the type of things I’m writing now, to understand my fans, to be on the ground level. Not above my people, but right there with my people,” he continued. “I would probably need another three years to live before I can create another one. Just so I could go through different things.” As far as the album title, Bow used it as motivation. “The more and more I kept sayin’ the word ‘underrated,’ I realized how many others of millions of people out there probably tuning in right now who probably feel like they’re underrated,” he said. “I’m sure there is an underground rapper out there who can rap hard and he want his break.” Despite all his platinum plaques and sold-out tours, Bow Wow still feels like he doesn’t get his just due. He hopes that will change once the album drops. Bow recently debuted the first video from the album, for “Sweat” with Lil Wayne , and he has already clocked in collaborations with Lloyd Banks. Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and Meek Mill and still plans to record with Wiz Khalifa. Though there isn’t a concrete release date in place, Bow Wow estimates Underrated will drop in April. ‘American Idol’ Introduces Shelby Tweten And … Magic Cyclops

Haley Smith, Angie Zeiderman and Jairon Jackson also stand out during Aspen, Colorado, auditions. By Adam Graham Jennifer Lopez on “American Idol” Photo: FOX The change in direction in this year’s “American Idol” — focusing on actual contestants rather than the humiliating auditions that result in YouTube infamy — has, thus far, deprived viewers of any great-bad moments. That changed Wednesday (January 25) during the “Idol” auditions from Aspen, Colorado, when viewers were introduced to “professional air guitarist” Magic Cyclops, who showed up in front of Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson in an American-flag T-shirt, a red-white-and-blue bandana and a faux-British accent he said he picked up in Davenport, Iowa, from watching the BBC. The long-haired, facial-hair-sporting Cyclops refused to give his age — “it’s not polite to ask a lady her age,” he told Jackson — and claimed to be the proud owner of 11,000 air guitars. “I know there’s a guy in Belgium that has, I think, five more than me,” he said. When it came time to sing, Cyclops offered the judges their choice between Neil Diamond’s “Cracklin’ Rosie” and Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” and ended up singing them both in a kind of metalhead growl. Jackson was already on his way out of the room when Cyclops hit his grand finale — a burst of confetti shooting out of a cannon he had tucked into the back of his pants — but by that time, season 11 had finally given us someone to include alongside William Hung, Renaldo Lapuz and others in the “Idol” Bad Audition Hall of Fame. Cyclops aside, Aspen had a solid crop of talent to offer, with 31 singers earning Golden Tickets to Hollywood. Perhaps the most unique contestant was 25-year-old Angie Zeiderman of Delray Beach, Florida, a would-be Lady Gaga in a floral-print minidress, pearls and a purple hairdo who rolled around the audition stage while performing “When You’ve Got It, Flaunt It” from “The Producers.” She followed it with a measured take on Roy Orbison’s “Blue Bayou,” leading Jackson to tell her, “You’re in your own little world.” Lopez complimented her strong voice and her tone, while Tyler told her she had a “great little voice.” Zeiderman herself told the cameras, “It is time for a vintage glitter queen on ‘American Idol,’ ” and it seems as though she’s right, as she sailed through to the next round of auditions. Viewers were also told the story of Shelby Tweten, 17, of North Mankato, Minnesota, who was diagnosed bipolar last year but who said “American Idol” keeps her balanced and gives her a reason to stay on her medication. Her version of Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home” brought a tear to Lopez’s eye and inspired Jackson to give her a “big, huge yes!” to Hollywood. Haley Smith, meanwhile, doesn’t have just one job she has to leave to head to Hollywood, but three. The hardworking 18-year-old from Orem, Utah, brought a little flower power to Wednesday’s show, as her throwback hippie vibe gave Steven Tyler flashbacks. “I love your voice so much. You’re right out of my era, and I’m honored to be here listening to your voice,” he told the Janis Joplin-like Smith, following her earthy version of Rufus and Chaka Kahn’s “Tell Me Something Good.” Then there was 19-year-old Jairon Jackson of Denver, Colorado, whose original song “So Hard” inspired Lopez to exclaim, “That kid is a real artist!” and also provided enough of a tie-in for producers to play will.i.am.’s Lopez-assisted “T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever).” Cross-promotion is key, kids. Other singers ushered through to Hollywood on Wednesday’s episode included elementary school teacher Jenni Schick, 24, of Sterling, Virginia, who managed to steal a kiss on the lips from Tyler before leaving the judge’s room; Curtis Gray, 28, of Spring Hill, Florida, who was called a “major talent” after his version of Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”; Scotty McCreery sound-alike Richie Law, 19, of Centennial, Colorado; Devan Jones, 26, of Aurora, Colorado, a hotel clerk who moved the judges with his version of the Script’s “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”; and 25-year-old Mathenee Reco of Centennial, Colorado, a dance instructor who gave an animated version of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude.” On Thursday, “Idol” is off to Galveston, Texas, to find out if everything really is bigger in Texas. What did you think of Magic Cyclops and the rest of Wednesday’s “Idol” contestants? Let us know in the comments! Megan Fox vs. Lindsay Lohan: Who’d You Rather (Play Liz Taylor)?

Last week came news that perennial problem starlet Lindsay Lohan was in talks to play screen icon Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz and Dick biopic, which would mark some sort of career rejuvenation for the troubled La Lohan. But wait! It seems other actresses are also up for the role, including Transformers / Passion Play star Megan Fox . E! uncovered the role rivalry last weekend when the film’s executive producer, Larry Thompson, let spill that he’s “in conversations” with more than just Lohan, whose ongoing legal woes may complicate production, set to begin in the spring. “I’ve been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps,” he said, “and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox.” But lest you think Thompson isn’t taking this casting bit seriously enough or is hedging his bets against Lohan, he really set the record straight about this Lifetime original movie film. “It’s a very serious selection. It’s like casting for Hollywood royalty.” Fox may have the natural dark-haired loveliness of Taylor over Lohan, but Lohan — despite films like I Know Who Killed Me and that one where she got pregnant and went straight to DVD — has demonstrated far better acting chops. I can’t believe we’re actually considering a future where either Megan Fox or Lindsay Lohan are going to play Elizabeth Taylor for a TV movie, so maybe it doesn’t even really matter. Anyways. With the Liz casting seemingly up in the air, chime in: Who should get the gig? • Lindsay Lohan, Look Out: Megan Fox Also in Talks to Play Elizabeth Taylor [E!]

Ludacris Taps Usher For Upcoming Spring Album

‘I’d say we’re maybe about 40 percent done,’ Luda tells Billboard about his Ludaversal. By Rob Markman Ludacris Photo: Dave Kotinsky/ Getty Images Are you ready for another Ludacris album? It’s been two years since ‘Cris dropped his last album, Battle of the Sexes, and the Atlanta MC estimates that his next one will hit stores this spring. “I get the beats together and I put out my ideas, so I’d say we’re maybe about 40 percent done,” the rapper told Billboard of his upcoming eighth LP, Ludaversal, which he anticipates will be out around May with a first single dropping in March. Luda, who dropped his 1.21 Gigawatts mixtape in November, also revealed one big-time guest on the LP. ” Usher is one person that I’ve already worked with,” he said. “In terms of other artists, you can say that there’s going to be a lot of surprises on here.” The pair already have a few collaborations under their belt. Who can forget Usher’s inescapable smash “Yeah!” from his 2004 Confessions album? The two also hooked up on Lil Jon’s “Lovers and Friends” in the same year and then again two years ago on Usher’s “She Don’t Know.” As far as what the two have cooked up for Ludaversal, fans will just have to wait and see. Throughout his career, Luda has shown a ton of versatility. An undeniable hitmaker, at times the nimble-tongued lyricist has been comical (2001’s “Area Codes” and 2004’s “Number One Spot”) and in other instances delivered healthy amounts of substance (2006’s “Runaway Love” and 2008’s “Do the Right Thing”). For Ludaversal, he will get a little personal. “It’s been a minute since I’ve been away from music, and there is just so much to talk about,” he said. “So [the album] is mostly about my personal life, my travels, my experiences, rumors, gossip — you know, everything coming together in one.” What are your expectations for Ludacris’ new album? Selena Gomez: What’s Next After ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’?

‘We’re going to take a break from music,’ Gomez, who is working on several movies, announces. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez on “Wizards of Waverly Place” Photo: Disney Selena Gomez will wave her magic wand one final time on January 6 when the series finale of “Wizards of Waverly Place” airs. And as she looks forward to what’s next in 2012 , she says one thing she won’t be doing is releasing new music. “We’re going to take a break from music,” Gomez told E! News . “My band and I are going to chill on that for a second. I’ll be doing two films in the beginning of [2012], which I’m excited about. They are both different and things I’ve never played before and will be fun for me.” As she closes the door on “Wizards” for good, and on her music for now, the teen superstar says that saying goodbye to her Disney show is bittersweet. “[My fans are] definitely not [ready for it to end], according to my Twitter feed and everything else,” she said. “Of course, we could stay on, but we want to move on and stuff. But the show will live on forever and we’re all grateful for that. I spent more time with them than my own family. It was amazing.” But fans of the star should prepare for what’s next. Gomez will shoot the darker “Spring Breakers” in early 2012 and has been rumored to be attached to a film called “Hot Mess.” For “Spring Breakers,” Gomez will work with director Harmony Korine (the man behind the super-dark ’90s classic “Kids”). The movie revolves around a group of college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. After they land in jail, they become entangled with the drug and arms dealer who bailed them out. James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts are also attached to the project. “It’s a different character than I have ever played before,” Gomez told MTV News about the project. “It’s a different kind of vibe, I think, than people are used to seeing me in. What you’re going to see is more raw, I think. It’s going to be raw and more about acting.” Related Videos Selena Gomez: 2011 In Review Related Artists Selena Gomez

‘Jersey Shore’ And More TV To Look Forward To In 2012

With a new series from Steven Spielberg plus the return of ‘Mad Men’ and many others, TV addicts have a lot to get hyped about. By Jim Cantiello The cast of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV “Revenge,” “American Horror Story,” “New Girl,” 2 Broke Girls,” “Girl Girl” (OK, we made that last one up). Coming off one of the most satisfying fall seasons in recent memory, 2012 has a lot to live up to in order to keep TV addicts hyped up in the new year. Admit it, couch potatoes: We’ve been spoiled. Can the upcoming midseason keep the momentum going? Perhaps the biggest hope for viewers is Steven Spielberg ‘s “Smash,” a new musical series starring “American Idol” alum Katharine McPhee and “Will & Grace” star Debra Messing. Although “Glee” comparisons are unavoidable (OMG, people are singing songs and dancing on prime-time TV!), the extended previews suggest a more mature affair. “Smash” is a warts-and-all depiction of what it’s like to create a new Broadway show. Competing actresses, sparring producers, Anjelica Friggin’ Huston in your living room chewing scenery every week … What’s not to love? Spielberg isn’t the only movie maverick headed to the television world this year. “Paranormal Activity” mastermind Oren Peli is partially responsible for ABC’s “The River,” in which a travelogue host goes missing in the Amazon, sparking a rescue mission led by his wife, son and former TV crew. Will Peli’s patented “found footage” device work on the boob tube? Small-screen suspense is hot thanks to Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story,” whose addictive first season wrapped up before Christmas. However, Murphy’s Achilles heel is sustaining quality and buzz over multiple seasons (see “Nip/Tuck,” “Glee”), so fans are cautiously optimistic for its return in the fall. Murphy also has his hand in a new sitcom pilot about a gay couple and a surrogate that caused a bidding war between all the major networks, not to mention several feature films in development and the third season of “Glee,” which continues to roll along. Fingers crossed Murphy can stay focused enough on F/X’s breakout gothic hit to keep season two just as juicy and batsh– as its debut. Speaking of shows that derailed after one season, “Heroes” creator Tim Kring is back on the network horse, bringing the touchy-feely father-son drama “Touch” to Fox this spring. The premise? Kiefer Sutherland plays a widowed dad struggling to take care of his mute, autistic son. Can’t wait to watch Ryan Seacrest awkwardly interview Kiefer in the “Idol” audience about that one. There’s a mini-“Lost” reunion happening on Fox thanks to “Alcatraz,” J.J. Abrams’ latest. It’s a (what else?) convoluted mystery that takes place on an island! Instead of plane crash survivors, this one’s about long-deceased guards and inmates reappearing decades later. Hurley (a.k.a. Jorge Garcia) co-stars. No word yet on whether the smoke monster will make a cameo. In 2011, MTV had a breakout year with scripted television thanks to action-packed “Teen Wolf” and sharply hilarious “Awkward.” Both of your faves will be back this summer, with “Teen Wolf” expanding to 24 episodes and “Awkward.” boasting new love woes for Jenna. Brooklyn-based comedy “I Just Want My Pants Back” will get the full-season treatment in February. And millions of fist-pumpers will be happy when America’s most popular partiers get belligerent in Seaside Heights when the fifth season of “Jersey Shore” spreads like an STD on January 5. On the opposite end of the TV spectrum, AMC’s “Mad Men” will finally be back in March. We’ve waited longer than usual for new Don Draper exploits thanks to a behind-the-scenes kerfuffle between show creator Matthew Weiner and the cable network. Now that the contracts have been signed, we can all jump back into the adventures of the 1960s advertising world. For those of you who forgot where we left off (spoilers on the way), Don’s engaged to secretary Megan, his (crazy!) ex-wife is shacking up with a politician, Joan’s preggers and their preteen daughter is a chronic masturbator. And you wonder why this show wins a million Emmys. The other Emmy favorite, “30 Rock,” has found itself stuck between a very odd rock and hilarious hard place now that Kim Jong-il has passed away. Remember, last season ended with Jack Donaghy’s wife, Avery Jessup, kidnapped in North Korea and forcibly married to Jong-il’s son Kim Jong-un. Given the breaking news, the show’s sixth season may need to re-vamp its planned plotline with Margaret Cho as the recently deceased dictator. Showrunner Robert Carlock recently told the press that “30 Rock” plans on airing the episodes they’ve already banked with Cho and aren’t even sure they’ll kill off her character at all. Sounds twisted! Reality junkies are stoked for the second season of Lifetime’s “Dance Moms,” launching January 10. Pittsburgh’s leading instructor for aspiring Broadway starlets Abby Lee Miller is looking to add a new dancer to her competitive troupe. Grab-the-popcorn alert: A new dancer means a new mom with whom she will clash. Loudly. Plus, producers have smartly signed on rival Candy Apples dance instructor Cathy Nesbitt-Stein for another batch of episodes. 2012 will also bring us explosive new seasons of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” (long in the can and still making headlines thanks to public feuds between castmembers), Oxygen’s late-bloomer “The Glee Project” and a bigger, badder, bolder “X Factor” this fall. “X”-man Simon Cowell recently promised a “blood bath” behind the scenes. RIP awkward host Steve Jones? Aspiring fashionistas have a lot to add to their DVRs. ABC Family’s latest is called “Jane by Design,” sort of a weekly “Devil Wears Prada” for the teenage set. NBC is premiering Elle Macpherson and Jessica Simpson’s reality competition “Fashion Star” in March. Lifetime is airing a full “Project Runway All Stars” season (featuring MTV News fave Sweet P!) as well as a new show called “24 Hour Catwalk,” hosted by Alexa Chung. The CW has a “Kitchen Nighmares”-type series about modeling agencies called “Running Out of TV Ideas,” I mean, “Remodeled.” Lastly, Rachel Zoe’s former assistant Brad Goreski gets top billing in Bravo’s “It’s a Brad, Brad World,” beginning January 2. That’s a lot of look. And finally, as if you need any reminding, “American Idol” is back for its 11th season on January 18. Last year boasted beefy ratings despite star Simon Cowell jumping ship, a winner who shattered Billboard country records and more frilly scarves than HSN’s stockroom courtesy of new judge Steven Tyler . However, last year’s “AI” premiered in a pre-“Voice,” pre-“X Factor” landscape. With NBC’s blind-auditions-and-Xtina-in-a-swivel-chair gimmick returning in a cushy post-Super Bowl spot (where, coincidentally, “Idol’s” sophomore season kicked off in 2003), and with “The X Factor” shattering pre-conceived notions of what reality production value can be, will the aging Fox staple now seem quaint? Or perhaps it will feel like a familiar hug from a grandmother. Regardless, even if the reality juggernaut loses half its audience, it will still make the network oodles of money. In other words, “American Idol” may outlive us all. What shows are you most excited to see return? Any new series already set on your DVR? Let us know in the comments!
