Justin Bieber Charms L.A. Ladies, From Toddlers To Grandmas

The My World Tour brought Bieber fever to the Nokia Theatre Tuesday night. By Kelley L. Carter Justin Bieber performs in Los Angeles on Tuesday Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — The countdown started early in the night for Justin Bieber’s sold-out show at the Nokia Theatre on Tuesday night. Bieber’s young fans screamed and waved multicolored glow sticks in the air, while their parents stuffed cotton balls in their ears, sipped on wine or text messaged, seemingly oblivious to the growing anticipation by their children. When the two large screens on either side of the stage clicked on and announced that it was almost showtime, the decibel level was off the charts. Fans pulled out their cell phones and began taking silly shots of each other, waving their hands in the air, and at times, singing their favorite Bieber songs in unison. When the 16-year-old finally took the stage shortly before 9 p.m., he dropped down from the ceiling in an egg-shaped apparatus. Neon green lasers shot from the stage, and his face popped up on the screens. Bieber spent the next hour rolling through a number of hits — including “Baby,” “One Time,” “Love Me,” “Favorite Girl” and “One Less Lonely Girl” — all tracks that helped to make the Canadian heartthrob a household name. Bieber also sang a little medley of classic hits, including “Wanna Be Starting Something” by Michael Jackson and “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith and Run-DMC. “I’m so glad everyone could make it tonight. I have the best fans in the world,” Bieber said. “I would do anything to make you smile.” Again, the kids screamed, rightly knowing that he would launch into his track, “U Smile.” Bieber made several costume changes, but he always kept a New York Yankees baseball cap on his head, grabbing it while dancing in front of and next to his backup dancers. The contraption that he first dropped down in changed shapes, at one point it turning into a heart that he boarded. It took Bieber into in the air, as he strummed his guitar and smiled down lovingly at his mostly female concert. “I see a lot of beautiful girls in the audience. You know what? I think I need to get a little closer to you,” he said. And as if on cue, fans as young as 3-years-old and those old enough to be their grandparents cried and flailed their hands about, hoping to get closer to him. Have you seen Justin Bieber in concert? Pink Says She Will Perform Friday After Onstage Injury In Germany

‘I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl,’ singer tweets after falling into stage barrier Thursday night. By Jocelyn Vena Pink (file) Photo: Andy Sheppard/Redferns Pink had a bit of a scare during one of her high-flying stunts at a show in Nuremberg, Germany, on Thursday, when she fell into a stage barrier and was immediately rushed to the hospital. According to her Twitter updates from the hospital, however, she didn’t break anything and was “just seriously sore.” “Okay. Full steam ahead, people,” she tweeted on Friday morning (July 16), apparently determined to perform the same day in Salem, Germany. “No pain, no gain. Or is it no brain, no pain? Either way, I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl:)” During the opening bars of her hit “So What,” a video posted online shows dancers helping Pink into her harness. “Shall we do it?” she asks the crowd. “I can’t hear y’all! Are y’all ready?” Then, she shouts “No! No!” as the wires pull her off the stage and she falls into the crowd. The music stops, as Pink says from beyond the camera’s view, “Oh, f—, that hurt like a mother—-er. Sorry.” Although the crowd’s cheers die down considerably, some fans can still be heard screaming for the pop star while her crew and dancers work to figure out what is wrong with the singer. Eventually, after some moments pass, Pink is able to get up and make her way back on the stage where she still seems visibly in pain. At press time, a rep for the singer had not returned MTV News’ request for comment regarding her current condition or the status of Friday’s show. But Pink’s husband, Carey Hart, wrote on Twitter that she has already been released from the hospital and seemed confident that she would be ready for the concert. “She [will] better feel better soon, she has a show tomorrow!” he tweeted . “No, sriously, she is good. Just super banged up. One tough girl.” As for Pink, she is keeping in good spirits about the injury. After Hart wrote about her encounter with the barrier, she made light of the situation, writing, “Nooo! I WON!! RT @hartluck: Fyi@pink out of the hospital+ all good. Just got the shit kicked out of her by the barrier. Steel barrier-1 Pink-0.” Leave your well-wishes for Pink in the comments! Related Artists P!nk

Andrew Garfield’s Journey Toward Spider-Man

Young actor’s life will never be the same following director Marc Webb’s choosing him as the new Spider-Man. By Eric Ditzian Andrew Garfield Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images On Thursday night in Cancun, Mexico, new “Spider-Man” director Marc Webb and his producers took the stage at a press event to make a long-awaited announcement — one feverishly anticipated and debated since the collapse of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” in January: the name of the new Spider-Man . “Though his name may be new to many, those who have seen his work will know this young man embodies an exceedingly rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity,” Webb said onstage . “Without further ado, meet your new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield.” And with that, the 26-year-old Garfield walked onto the stage to a chorus of applause, his life never to be the same again. For while he does have a significant filmography to his name, he’s never experienced anything that can compare to being the face of a blockbuster comic-book franchise. Born in Los Angeles, he was raised outside London and got his start as an actor on the stage. In 2006, he was dubbed outstanding newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his West End stage work and in 2007 shared the London Theatre Critics’ Circle Most Promising Newcomer Award. By that point, Garfield had already stepped in front of the camera for big- and small-screen work. He appeared alongside Robert Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep in “Lions for Lambs,” prompting Variety to name him one of 10 Actors to Watch. “I’m just lucky to be there working on the same project as them, although I don’t really expect to be recognized later by audiences,” he told the magazine. Across the pond, he blew British audiences away with his performance as a secretive kid in “Boy A,” a TV movie that won Garfield a BAFTA Best Actor Award . Perhaps his most well-known role to date, though, is a turn opposite Heath Ledger in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” in which he played a gangly kid and romantic rival to Ledger as they both competed for the affections of Lily Cole. While “Spider-Man” won’t hit theaters until the summer of 2012, this year is already shaping up to be a profile-raising one for Garfield. He stars alongside Jesse Eisenberg this fall in the highly anticipated, David Fincher-directed “The Social Network” and also with Keira Knightley in “Never Let Me Go,” an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s haunting novel of the same name. Janet Jackson Says ‘I Love My Life’

‘It took me a good minute to get here, it really did,’ the pop star tells Essence in August cover story. By Mawuse Ziegbe Janet Jackson on the August 2010 cover of “Essence” Photo: Essence Communications To her fans, Janet Jackson would appear to have emerged from an especially taxing year. The pop star just marked the one-year anniversary of brother Michael’s death and, last year, ended her relationship with longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri . But despite her personal trials, Jackson recently revealed that she’s in a good place in her life. “It took me a good minute to get here, it really did. But I love my life,” Jackson tells Essence in the August issue hitting newsstands July 12. “I only wish I had this confidence when I was younger.” Although Jackson may have lacked confidence in her early years, the hitmaker maintained that she has no qualms about aging; an outlook the Jackson family matriarch, Katherine, instilled in her and her celebrity siblings. “Mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us — my sisters, my brothers — we’ll just tell you our ages because it’s all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself.” Perhaps Jackson’s attitude is also influenced by the new inroads she’s making in her career. The diva has ramped up her acting work in recent months, pulling off an emotional performance in “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Jackson is also scheduled to begin shooting the star-studded “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” helmed by Tyler Perry, and with such co-stars as Whoopi Goldberg and Kerry Washington. The megastar also relished her overall independence. “I’m so fortunate. I’m a free agent. I’m not trapped in a contract where I’m unhappy,” Jackson said. “I’m very free, and I love this feeling. I can do whatever I want.” And while Jackson may not be committing to any recording projects just yet, she isn’t shying away from the stage. The singer is slated to perform at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans this weekend. Jackson will hit the stage alongside several acts, including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz.
