School Vows ‘Appropriate Action’ For Video Showing Teen Brutally Beaten By Other Students

A heartbreaking video is circulating of 14-year-old child being attacked in a bathroom by several students. The incident took place at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West in Baltimore, Maryland and now there is reportedly a investigation underway. SEE ALSO: Complaint Filed Against Judge Tammy Kemp For ‘Unconstitutional’ Behavior After Amber Guyger Sentencing After the video went viral, Baltimore City Schools released the following statement, according to CBS , “Yesterday, a student was assaulted by several other students at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West. Students involved in the incident are being identified. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with City Schools’ Code of Conduct and the law. “ The statement continued, “We are committed to the safety and security of our students and staff and work hard every day to create positive and supportive environments for teaching and learning. To the extent possible, students in the video have been identified. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with City Schools’ Code of Conduct and the law.” See the video below, but please be warned that it is graphic. Another disturbing video has surfaced showing a 14-year-old Baltimore high school student being viciously beaten in the boys' bathroom by a gang of thugs.  It was confirmed that the attack took place at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy. 443-642-2110 pic.twitter.com/BMFzx1qntV — Big Boss (@escapedmatrix) October 11, 2019 According to the National Center for Educational Statistics from 2016, Black children have the highest rate of being bullied, “25% of African-American students, 22% of Caucasian students, 17% of Hispanic students, and 9% of Asian students report being bullied at school.” Sadly, bullying often results in suicide, “Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University,” the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention  reported . On top of that, the CDC  found that  more than “14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.” A most recent example is  Phillip Spruill Jr. , an 11-year-old 5th grader from Philadelphia,  killed himself in April after incessant bullying at school because of his weight. In addition, Kevin Reese Jr. , a 10-year-old from Houston, hanged himself to death in January because he was bullied at school through taunting and physical abuse, the New York Daily News  reported  at the time. An overwhelming amount of kids who are bullied don’t report it, according to many educators. Most bullied children are at a higher risk of anxiety, depression and other negative outcomes. We hope the bullies in the video are properly punished and our thought go out to the 14-year-old.  SEE ALSO: Some No Name, Pitchy R&B Singer Disrespected Keith Sweat And Gets Demolished On Twitter Outrageous! Kanye West’s Sunday Service Pops Up At Howard University

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Kanye West has been taking his Sunday Service performance experience on the road in various cities as of late, no doubt to prepare listeners for the highly-anticipated Jesus Is King album. This morning (October 12) as Howard University’s homecoming weekend kicks off, the Chicago superstar brought Sunday Service to the Yard much to the delight of many. Footage thus far is still coming in via Twitter but from what we can gather, West and his large entourage of performers made their way to the campus grounds of the famed HBCU to deliver music and upliftment as has been the case with previous pop-up performances. Early reports from Twitter revealed that the visit was largely brief as HuffPost editor Phillip Lewis gave his brief account of the moment. Kanye really said “I was canceled, but as I stand on the lawn of Howard University, do I look canceled to you?” — philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) October 12, 2019 According to a reporter from local news outlet WUSA, students at Howard were alerted of West’s performance early this morning via email. Students got emails at 6 am this morning. pic.twitter.com/9JIgSFpYEa — Sarah Konsmo (@skonsmo) October 12, 2019 Dr. Greg Carr, the chair of Howard’s Afro American Studies department, invited West to the school’s Founder’s Library to offer him some books to take with him on the road in the wake of the artist’s resurgent love of all things MAGA. It isn’t known if West took him up on the offer. If @kanyewest is indeed at #HowardU this morning, send him to the third floor of Founder's Library after he's done. I have some books for him. #TheMiseducationOfTheNegro — Greg Carr (@AfricanaCarr) October 12, 2019 And while critique on Twitter of West’s Sunday Service has indeed been high this morning, there are some who found a reason to praise the move. kanye west sunday service @HowardU this morning may just have been one of the coolest things ive ever seen in my life pic.twitter.com/D6KSCanXd3 — Grace Willoughby (@gracewillo) October 12, 2019 — Photo: Getty

‘While Black’ Podcast Captures The Essence Of Being Black In America

Originally posted here:

I n 2014 the senseless murder of Mike Brown shook the nation. It was that tragic incident where many people, including While Black podcast creator Vince , came to the realization that the string of fatal police-related shootings happening throughout the country were far from being isolated situations and the ugly truths about racism in America were being brought to the forefront. While watching news coverage of the unrest that was unraveling in Ferguson following the 18-year-old’s death, alongside some of his white colleagues at work, Vince couldn’t help but notice how disconnected they were. The detachment and disregard left him feeling unsettled, forgotten, and invisible. He couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that one could be so detached from an incident that impacted the entire country. He also was appalled by what he says were inaccurate narratives surrounding Brown and what took place that were being perpetuated by the media. It was in this moment where he realized he needed to become a voice for his community and utilize his platform to enlighten folks on what it’s like to be Black in America. After years of using his social media platforms as an avenue to inform and ignite crucial conversations about social and political issues as they relate to the Black community, in 2018 Vince decided to launch the podcast While Black . The name stemmed from the James Baldwin quote “To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time.” He also pulled his inspiration from gems dropped by the late rapper Tupac Shakur about racial and economic inequality in America. “I have an obligation to reach across this color isle and begin to inform white America of what it is to be Black in America. My social channels have a diverse audience and I understood the influence of my reach. I turned my social media feed and my platform into a social justice lightning rod,” Vince told NewsOne. Going beyond the mission of giving individuals insight into the complexities of being Black in America, he also wanted to use the platform to close the knowledge and education gaps within the Black community. “I’m trying to create a platform that can use entertainment and fun to educate us on things that we truly need to be educated on. Whether it is correcting misconceptions, whether it is providing awareness, or whether it is providing additional education or inspiration. I find topics where I feel like there could be gaps within the African American community and I try to fill them.” Cognizant of the fact that the Black experience in America isn’t monolithic, Vince and his cohost Art feature a wide spectrum of guests who are experts in different spaces. From rappers to doctors and wealth building to parenting, the podcast covers a large range of topics. Source: While Black Podcast He says some of the most memorable guests that have been featured on the podcast include musician Okorie “OkCello” Johnson and Black activist Kimoni Sadiq . “Every episode will be with someone who has expertise or credibility in a space. Whether you agree with them or not, it’s thought-provoking, based on reality and provides you with something to chew on.” For Vince, While Black is all about educating and empowering the Black community to take control of their narratives. He also hopes that the moves he’s made with the podcast inspires other Black creators to break into the world of podcasting and often uses his platform to highlight other African American podcasters. Representation is needed in the podcast space. Although more Black podcasts are being created, research shows that hosts are predominately white and male. He says increasing the representation of Black podcast listeners and creators starts with “reminding and reassuring individuals that their perspectives add value to conversations.” As far as what’s on the horizon for the podcast, While Black is partnering with Apple which has one of the world’s largest platforms for podcast discovery and listenership. When asked about what he loves about being Black, Vince replied “We are a culture of people who are constantly evolving. We continue to push into areas and things that most of the world would say we have no business doing. There’s been this awakening inside of us to embody Black, to exude Black, to embrace Black, to codeswitch less, and to not be afraid to be in our own skin.” SEE ALSO: The Obamas Sign Deal With Spotify To Produce Podcasts Entrepreneur Launches Coupon Platform To Support Black-Owned Businesses [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3889769″ overlay=”true”]

Jenelle Evans and David Eason: Proof They’re Abusing Animals AGAIN?!

Jenelle Evans doesn't have the best track record when it comes to keeping her pets happy and healthy, you know? It's actually kind of a whole thing. Over the years, we've seen her treat quite a few animals badly, and it's always been difficult to see. But after what happened with Nugget earlier this year, you'd think she'd have learned to be a bit more careful. No such luck, as it turns out … 1. Looking Back As we said, Jenelle has never been much of an animal lover — remember back in the day on Teen Mom 2 when she crammed her two big dogs in one crate, yelled at them, then opened the door for them to go outside and tried to get them to run away? 2. Memories Or what about the time she tried to get her dog to play fetch with a lit firework? 3. Ugh And then there was the the time when her dog started showing up in photos with what very much looked like a broken tail. She never seemed too concerned about that. 4. RIP Nugget All of that was truly awful, but it was nothing when compared to what David did to Nugget. 5. Poor Pup Nugget was Jenelle’s little French bulldog, and she appeared to be especially attached to it. But when the dog nipped at Ensley, David thought that instead of trying to train the dog or teach his kids how to interact with animals, he’d just take the dog outside and shoot it. 6. A Mystery Some reports claimed that he beat the dog before killing it, others claimed that when he came back inside afterwards, he was covered in blood. Even if none of that was true, the fact remains that he killed the poor little dog, and that clearly was not OK. View Slideshow

DC Howard University ready #SundayService pic.twitter.com/xuEZBZpca1 — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) October 12, 2019 Kanye also made some comments, he first denied being “cancelled”… “I was in debt, I was in the mental hospital, I was canceled but the power belongs to God. As we stand here right in the yard of Howard University, does this look like canceled to you?” and (once again) ranted about slavery. “Next time the slave nets come out, lets all try and not stand in one place,” said Kanye who previously ranted that “slavery was a choice.” Kanye said “if they throwing slave nets again how about we all don’t stand in the same place” and the guitarists face fucking sends me akskksksksskskdj pic.twitter.com/BZOoFjFzXJ — (@asia__vu) October 12, 2019 Yeah, is this STILL y’alls King? While some people were ecstatic to see Ye at The Mecca, others are rightfully pissed that Howard administration let bigot supporting Kanye on campus. If you’re not intelligent enough to recognize that Kanye West is exploiting Black Christian culture AND Howard University to rebrand from supporting a racist, xenophobic con artist… please stay away from me. — Ammon (@AmmonLyle) October 12, 2019 Howard students stopped white folks from walking dogs on the campus, but let Kanye carry on his anti-Blackness in a sacred Black space? Come on y’all. — Aisha Alexander (@AishaThinker) October 12, 2019 What do YOU think about Kanye having Sunday Service at Howard??? More on the flip.

#AtatianaJefferson Black Woman Fatally Shot By White Police Officer In Her Own Home

This is Atatiana Jefferson. She was 28 yrs old, a graduate of Xavier Univ. and lived w/ her nephew. A Fort Worth, TX cop shot and killed her thru her window as she stood peacefully and unarmed in her own home. Black people are subject to deadly force even when they stay home. pic.twitter.com/09dA2nl3v5 — Kristen Clarke (@KristenClarkeJD) October 13, 2019 Atatiana Jefferson Killed By White Police Officer In Her Home The death of a black woman minding her business in her home before being killed by police is causing Botham Jean comparisons. Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, 28, died Saturday after a Forth Worth, Texas officer opened fire on her inside her house. NBC Dallas-Forth Worth reports that a neighbor called the police to report that Jefferson’s door was open. An officer who arrived on the scene peered into Atatiana’s window and spotted her and yelled, “Put your hands up — show me your hands,” before opening fire and shooting her. The young woman was shot once and although aid was rendered she was pronounced dead. The officer who killed Atatiana has yet to be identified but authorities tell NBC he’s on administrative leave pending an investigation. He’s also been confirmed as white. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price released a statement on the shooting. “Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support,” Price said. Mayor Price has promised a “complete and thorough investigation” to be conducted by Police Chief Ed Kraus, which will then be forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney Law Enforcement Incident Team. This is so incredibly tragic and sad. We’re thinking of the family and friends of Atatiana who lost their loved one for absolutely no reason.

Welp: Georgetown University Pulls The Plug On Fabolous’ Homecoming Performance Because Of History Of Domestic Violence

Source: Chris McKay / Getty Fabolous’ Georgetown Performance Was Cancelled Due To His Alleged History Of Domestic Violence According to XXL , Fabolous was supposed to be perform at Georgetown’s “Hoya Madness” event this weekend, but because of domestic abuse allegations , he won’t be hitting the stage. Earlier this week, Georgetown officials released a statement saying that Fab had been disinvited to the event. “After engaging with students, we have cancelled the musical act for 2019 Hoya Madness,” the statement reads in part. “We take domestic violence very seriously and were unaware of the charges against the entertainer when he was booked through a third-party entity. We are committed to enhanced vetting of future performers and doing all that we can to support a safe and respectful community.” Fabolous was scheduled to perform along with Big Tigger, Georgetown University’s cheerleaders and a pep band but the details of his recent indictment for domestic abuse charges last year after being arrested for allegedly attacking the mother of his son, Emily Bustamante, caused students to speak out against the performance. It seems like Fab and Em have put their differences to the side, but it looks like people are still not letting the Brooklyn rapper off the hook that easy.
