Entrepreneur Launches Coupon Platform To Support Black-Owned Businesses

The rest is here:

A ccording to a report conducted by Nielsen, Black buying power is estimated to be $1.2 trillion and there are several entrepreneurs on a mission to ensure that those dollars are being circulated within the African American community. Danielle McGee created the website Black Business Boom as an avenue to connect consumers to Black-owned businesses throughout the country, the Chicago Defender reported. Entrepreneur Creates Coupon Program For Black-Owned Businesses to Compete With Groupon https://t.co/XDA1SxwymQ https://t.co/iG7BIKnGbP — Black America Cares (@BlackPeopleCare) October 11, 2019 Similar to the websites Groupon and Living Social, McGee’s platform features coupons for nearly 400 small Black-owned businesses. Both the website and app encompass a wide variety of products and services that span from beauty to auto. The platform also provides users with information about events and promotions from Black-owned businesses and features location-based advertising. Black Business Boom was developed to highlight businesses and build a solid foundation for customer loyalty. “I started Black Business Boom because Black-owned businesses typically have less access to funding, which consequently limits their ability to spend money on marketing,” McGee said in a statement. “Our platform is an affordable way for small business owners to generate revenue while attracting loyal customers.” She also stressed the importance of putting action behind social movements surrounding the support of Black-owned businesses by providing people with the resources needed to take actionable steps towards fulfilling the mission. There have been several digital platforms created to support Black-owned businesses. After truck driver Edward Dillard found it hard to locate African American-owned restaurants during his coast to coast shifts on the road—especially on the outskirts of major cities—he launched the platform Eat Black Owned . The website is a national directory of over 2,000 Black-owned eateries. Users can locate restaurants based on their geographical location. Robert Forster Dies; Veteran Actor Was 78 Years Old

Robert Forster, the beloved actor whose career enjoyed an unexpected revival after he starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, died of brain cancer at his home in Los Angeles on Friday. He was 78 years old. The sad news was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by Forster’s publicist. Forster’s passing came just hours after his final performance, as he played a role in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which was released on Netflix on October 11. The veteran star also made a final appearance in Last Man Standing last year, portraying the father of Tim Allen’s character. “A truly gifted actor and one of the loveliest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. RIP Robert,” wrote Last Man Standing actress Nancy Travis on Twitter Friday in response to the sad development. Forster appeared on 10 episodes of this ABC sitcom. Still, he was best known for his work on the big screen. He made his film debut opposite Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor in John Huston’s Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967) and then received rave reviews as an ethically challenged cameraman in Haskell Wexler’s ultra-realistic Medium Cool (1969). Forster was a successful box office draw for over a decade — but his career than took a dip. By the early 1990s, the actor was down to supporting roles in such low-budget efforts as Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, Body Chemistry 3: Point of Seduction and Scanner Cop II… while supplementing his income with speaking engagements. Until Tarantino entered the picture, that is. In 1997, Tarantino directed Forster to an Oscar-nominated performance in Jackie Brown. Filmmaker David Lynch later cast him as a detective in Mulholland Drive —  and Forster would go on to work with Lynch again in 2017, playing Sheriff Frank Truman in Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival. “I went 21 months without a job. I had four kids, I took any job I could get,” Forster told the Chicago Tribune in 2018, adding: “My career went like this for five years and then like that for 27. “Every time it reached a lower level I thought I could tolerate, it dropped some more, and then some more. Near the end I had no agent, no manager, no lawyer, no nothing. I was taking whatever fell through the cracks.” Forster’s other credits over the recent years have included Firewall, Me, Myself and Irene, Lucky Number Slevin and Olympus Has Fallen. Forster said that when his career was at its lowest ebb, he had what he called an “epiphany.” “It was the simple one,” he said, “when you realize, ‘You know what? You’re not dead yet, Bob. You can win it in the late innings. You’ve still got the late innings, but you can’t quit. Never quit.'” He is survived by his third wife, Evie, and children Elizabeth, Katherine, Maeghen and Robert. May Robert Forster rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam

Source: Phillip Farone/WireImage/Paras Griffin / Getty Jeannie Mai Cries About Dating Jeezy Jeannie Mai might be in love. The “The Real Host” was recently discussing her relationship with Jeezy when she got so touched that she shed some snow smitten tears. Earlier this week Jeannie told the ladies that tender trapper made a shockingly heartwarming gesture. According to Jeannie, Jeezy is super supportive—so much so though that he left his own birthday party early in Atlanta to personally drive her to the airport. She also compared his actions to those of her ex Freddy Harteis whom she divorced in December 2018. “When [Freddy] said things like ‘good for you’ or ‘that’s cool,’ I’m like, that’s great, he supports me! That to me is my standard of support. I didn’t even know until my new relationship that something as basic …” she said, before trailing off and tearing up. “I’m not crying to feel bad. It was just so touchy. But even something as basic as, like, at his birthday party, he left his own birthday to drive me to the airport…he was like ‘are you kidding? I want to see you off.’” Awww! She then added that being with Jeezy has made her reevaluate her standards. “Be mindful of your standards,” she said, “Sometimes being alone in that time I took for myself, was my upgrade.” Watch Jeannie get emotional about Jeezy below. Jeannie previously stated that she and Jeezy had an 8-hour first date and Jeezy gave her a homework assignment. “He looks at me, he goes, ‘Can I give you a homework assignment?… I want you to think about the last eight hours we spent together, and think about what do you envision us doing together. What do you picture me being in your life? If that matches my notes, I will pursue you. If not, we’re cool to be friends.’” R O M A N C E, right???

#JusticeForJunior: Five Gang Members Receive Life Sentences In Lesandro ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz’s Murder

Source: Andrew Lichtenstein / Getty Five Gang Members Receive Life Sentences in ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz’s Murder It looks like #JusticeForJunior is finally being served. Today, five members of the Trinitarios gang were handed lengthy prison sentences for the murder of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz , the 15-year-old who was attacked outside of a bodega in the Bronx back in 2018. According to the reports from the New York Times , 19-year-old Manuel Rivera was sentenced to 23 years to life prison, while his co-defendants—Antonio Rodriguez Hernandez Santiago, 25; Jose Muniz, 23; and Elvin Garcia, 25—all received 25 years to life. 25-year-old Jonaiki Martinez Estrella was handed the heaviest sentence (life in prison without parole) as the one who allegedly plunged a knife into Guzman-Feliz’s neck and ultimately killed him. The announcement of these sentences comes nearly four months after the five gang members were found guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy, and second-degree gang assault. As of now, according to reports from The Times , eight other defendants are still awaiting trial. On June 20, 2018, surveillance video captured Feliz-Guzman running into a bodega in the Bronx. He was followed by five men who ended up dragged him out of the shop and onto to the sidewalk, where others were waiting. Security cameras from nearby buildings captured them attacking the 15-year-old, stabbing him with small knives and machetes. After the gang members fled the scene, Junior managed to get to the nearby St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead only minutes after arriving. According to law enforcement, the attackers had mistaken Feliz-Guzman for a rival gang member.

Touché! Tip Talks Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri NFL Dealings… Here’s His Professional, Positively Perspicacious Assessment [Video]

T.I. Talks Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri Working With The NFL Black folks have been side-eyeing the crap out of Jay-Z after he got in bed with the NFL for what felt like a shady (and pointless) partnership . Now, T.I. is weighing in on Hov’s decision, as well as Jermaine Dupri ‘s choice to partner with the Super Bowl when it was in Atlanta . But FIRST, in the exclusive Radio One clip the Rhythm + Flow host talks about becoming more involved with the community, saying he’s careful about categorizing himself as an activist … and here’s why: “I’m active, but I’m not an activist. I feel like an activist is more philanthropic. I’m in the for-profit biz. Activists are boots on the ground, they out doing the work, mobilizing, organizing, and sacrificing luxuries for the purpose of the greater good…” he explained. On Jay-Z and JD, he commented: “You see, at the time, my reason for not rocking with the NFL was because of how I felt they were manipulating the culture. I felt that they knew that Black dollars were important. Therefore, they came to Atlanta and I felt like they went all the wrong places and did all the wrong things to encourage the Black dollar at that moment in time. I feel like it wasn’t enough fair representation. JD was a good go, but I felt like it came after the slight — after I feel like we’d already been slighted — so, you know, he took a hard stand at it. I didn’t condemn him or criticize him for it. I told him I couldn’t participate. But, I think now that the smoke has cleared, I feel like, for me having that gripe — not being fairly or properly represented — if they go out of their way to find somebody who has an ability to fairly and properly represent the culture in Jay-Z, I can’t complain about that.” Check out the clip up top for his FULL thoughts, as he had a little bit MORE to say about JD, and let us know if you agree.
