We’re less than two months away from Meghan Markle’s due date , which means the Duchess of Sussex is approaching her travel deadline. (Those who fly private are given a bit more leeway, but you still want to avoid a midair delivery whenever possible.) Fortunately, Meg is taking full advantage by hopping across the pond for a few days of partying with her American besties. Yes, according to multiple outlets, Meg is wrapping up a five-day trip to NYC today with a baby shower hosted by several of her closest friends. Obviously, the “partying” we’re talking about here was fairly subdued, as Meghan is 1. pregnant, and 2. a member of the Royal Family. But despite the diva-like picture painted by Meghan’s awful family , the Duchess reportedly favors the simple things in life. A report published today by Harper’s Bazaar indicates that Meg spent much of the past few days enjoying the SoHo district in the company of Jessica Mulroney, a longtime friend and stylist who currently works for Good Morning America. “The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves,” says a source close to the Meghan, who notes that the trip was planned several months ago. “This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments.” Meg’s baby shower is reportedly being held this afternoon at Manhattan hotel The Mark. And what was on Meg’s agenda aside from being showered with gifts? Well, insiders say the Duchess kept a low profile during her time in the Big Apple (largely out of obligation, of course). She, Mulroney, and several other gal pals were spotted shopping and enjoying tea and macarons near their hotel. “It’s been a relaxing visit,” says the insider. “Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed—and with a lot of new baby clothes.” As for the longstanding rumor that Kate Middleton would be planning Meghan’s shower — well, insiders say that was always bunk. Apparently, Brits don’t do baby showers and actually consider the custom “gauche.” Who knew?! View Slideshow: Meghan Markle Baby Bump Watch: Is She Showing Yet?
Source: VALERIE MACON / Getty It’s nearly impossible to scroll social media without coming across a headline about Jussie Smollett . The Empire actor is engulfed in controversy after accusing two men of attacking him during a late night in Chicago. Smollett said he was punched in the face, had bleach poured on him and he suffered a bruise on his face. He also accused the attackers of yelling, “this MAGA country n*gger” and putting a noose around his neck. Since then an array of reports have come out that portray Smollett as a “liar.” Smollett has been accused of “orchestrating” the attack with two Nigerian brothers who also appeared on Empire. Here’s everything we know about the incident so far: Days before the attack, a threatening and racist letter addressed to Smollett was sent to CBS Chicago with a powdery substance inside that appeared to be Tylenol. Smollett was allegedly attacked by two men in Streeterville, Chicago early Jan. 29 morning after going to Subway He hesitated to call the police because of his pride but fully cooperated when he finally did contact them. Smollett revealed police didn’t initially ask him for his phone records, but wanted his phone. He didn’t hand it over because he had valuable and personal information in his phone. He did submit his phone records within an hour of the attack but they were redacted versions and the police needed more information. Jussie’s celebrity friends and fans of the actor came to his defense, calling out the forces who give energy to the MAGA movement and condemning racism. President Trump called the incident, “horrible.” “Doesn’t get worse,” he added. A police investigation turns up no surveillance footage of the attack, but shows two “persons of interest.” In his first performance after the attack, Jussie called himself the “gay tupac.” Jussie Smollett does Good Morning America interview, giving details about the alleged attack. According to his testimony, the attacker punched him and he struck him back. “We started tussling, it was very icy.” He added, “There was a second person involved who was kicking me in my back.” Apparently, his manager was on the phone during the attack. “Then I looked down and noticed there was a rope around my neck.” The homes of Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who were seen on the surveillance video, were raided. They were arrested but quickly released. “Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging.” BREAKING:Police raided the home of two persons of interest in Jussie Smollett case last night. Both men are of Nigerian decent and have appeared as extras on the show. Police took bleach, shoes electronics and more.Officers asked family if they knew #Jussiesmollett . @cbschicago pic.twitter.com/PDSFtf5jwb — Charlie De Mar (@CharlieDeMar) February 14, 2019 According to the brothers, they rehearsed the attack with Smollett days before the incident. They reportedly scouted a spot to orchestrate the attack where cameras would catch it. Apparently Jussie wanted the incident to be “physical” but not too harmful. They “made contact with Jussie’s face” but it was “weak.” The “attack” wasn’t caught on camera like Jussie had originally thought because cameras were facing north// away from where the incident occurred. Countless celebs have come out against Jussie after reports surfaced claiming the “attack” was orchestrated. “As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with,” said defense lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson in a statement obtained by Deadline. “Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.” Jussie’s role on Empire has reportedly been “slashed” in the wake of the allegedly staged attack. He was originally supposed to be in nine episodes, featuring one big musical scene. His sister Jurnee posted this message on social media. C alifornia’s Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris has seen a bump in the polls, as the accuracy of early surveys come under question that pegged former Vice President Joe Biden as the clear frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic nomination. See Also: Poll Shows What Crucial Iowa Voters Think About Likely Black Candidates For President Politico pointed out on Monday that at least two recent polls suggested that Biden does not have the 30-point lead that earlier polls found. The methodology of those early surveys apparently skewed the results and painted Biden as a formidable candidate if he decides to run. New surveys indicated that many Democrats are undecided and Biden—unlike Harris—may have benefited from name recognition in those earlier polls. One notable poll in December—before any Democrats announce their presidential bid—found that 32 percent of Iowa Democrats favored Biden in a field of about 20 possible opponents. Harris and New Jersey’s Democratic Sen. Cory Booker found themselves in the middle of the pack in the single digits. “People are weighing their options. I think the reason that so many people are getting in is because this is a 1-to-15 percent spread, not a 1-to-30 percent spread. It’s very different from 2016, when Hillary Clinton was at 40 or 50 percent,” said Steen Kirby, a campaigns and data specialist with Bold Blue Campaigns, adding that new polling shows that “it’s a very open field.” A new poll shows what Iowa Democrats think about nominating a Black candidate for president in 2020, including Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker… https://t.co/sgBsxwT1l0 pic.twitter.com/TBc9NUPnEy — NewsOne (@newsone) December 16, 2018 Bold Blue Campaigns’ survey , published Feb. 12, found that Biden led Harris by just 1 point—12 percent to 11 percent among likely Democratic primary voters. That result was similar to an ABC News/Washington Post poll published during the last week of January, which also gave Biden a 1-point lead over Harris—9 percent to 8 percent. Kirby pointed to the methodology of early pollsters as part of the reason that Biden was shown to have a huge lead over his potential rivals. Those surveys offered a menu of potential candidates but neglected to ask the voters if they were undecided. When Bold Blue Campaigns gave respondents that option, nearly half of them—48 percent—said they had not firmly decided on which Democrat to support. The December poll of Iowa Democrats was viewed as an early indication of which Candidate was most likely to win the party’s Iowa Caucus, which is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2020. As the first primary contest in the nation, a win in Iowa could cement a primary victory. The winner has won the Democratic presidential nomination in six consecutive election cycles . Source: MediaNews Group/Contra Costa Times via Getty Images / Getty Colin Kaepernick’s Predicts Which NFL Team Might Sign Him Now that Colin Kaepernick has a secured what most believe to be a multi-million dollar bag from the NFL in his collusion settlement, he can get back to the business of being a football player. That is if a team is willing to sign him. Let Kaep’s lawyer Mark Geragos tell it, there are at least three teams who might want #7’s services: ESPN agreed with Geragos, but was even more specific about the potential for Kaep to end up signed to the Carolina Panthers. Cam Newton is having shoulder surgery for the second time in three years, his recovery time is unknown. Having a capable back-up like Kaepernick would be clutch. What about the potential backlash from the mildewed MAGA Panther fans? Well, the team has already signed Kaep’s former kneeling teammate Eric Reid. Obviously, Reid isn’t the lightning rod that Colin is, but he certainly was a good litmus test for owners to gauge fan reaction. We’re not holding our breath in hopes that NFL owners do what’s right, but quarterbacks aren’t growing on trees?
Source: Eric-Paul-Pierre PASQUIER / Getty He Says Democrats “Plotting To Raise Taxes” Need To Be Cleared Out One vile newspaper editor is unapologetic about wanting to bring lynchings to Washington, D.C. According to the Montgomery Advertiser , Goodloe Sutton is the publisher of the Democrat-Reporter in the small town of Linden, Alabama, and he wants the Ku Klux Klan to return to full power. He published an editorial in the Democrat-Reporter calling for “the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again” against “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats [who] are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama.” Sutton confirmed his words to the Montgomery Advertiser on Monday, saying “If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we’d all been better off.” He didn’t stop there either. When asked to elaborate, Sutton suggested lynching. “We’ll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them,” Sutton said. When asked if he felt it was wrong for the publisher of a newspaper to promote lynching Americans, Sutton continued: “… It’s not calling for the lynchings of Americans. These are socialist-communists we’re talking about. Do you know what socialism and communism is?” Sutton wrote in the newspaper editorial: “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama. They do not understand how to eliminate expenses when money is needed in other areas. This socialist-communist ideology sounds good to the ignorant, the uneducated, and the simple-minded people.” When asked if he understood the KKK is a racist and violent group, Sutton disagreed. He had the audacity to compare the Klan to the NAACP. “A violent organization? Well, they didn’t kill but a few people,” Sutton said. “The Klan wasn’t violent until they needed to be.” Sutton allegedly doesn’t know any Klan members remaining in his area, saying that most of them died after the 1960s. He did, however, welcome people to call him, write him a letter or boycott him if they disagreed. Sutton has worked at the paper since 1964, inheriting the publication from his father. The publication has a history of acclaim in the 1990s when it reported on a corrupt local sheriff. For his coverage, Sutton was inducted into the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Communication Hall of Fame in 2007. That title has now been revoked in light of Sutton’s lynching article. The Advertiser reached out to the Alabama Press Association, the state trade association for newspapers in the state, to question whether or not Sutton and the Democrat-Reporter were members. APA executive director Felicia Mason responded, saying: “We do not agree with the opinion. However, APA is not a policing agency. We simply have no authority over what our member newspapers publish.” Smh. Per usual, the violent racists continue to have a platform in the streets and in the media.
