Source: NBC / Getty NBC Orders Brand New Comedy Competition Series NBC is teaming with Just For Laughs for Bring The Funny , a new comedy competition series which will aim to find the next great comedic act. The network just ordered 10 episodes of the show that will feature Saturday Night Live ‘s Kenan Thompson , Chrissy Teigen , and Jeff Foxworthy as judges, along with comedian Amanda Seales as the series’ host. Bring The Funny –which is billed as a new competition series for the next generation of comedy lovers–will feature some incredibly talented stand-ups, sketch troupes, and comedic variety acts, according to the show’s official description. “From solo comics to sketch troupes to musicians, magicians, podcasters, puppeteers, YouTubers and more – anyone who can make audiences laugh will have the chance to receive the career-changing $250,000 prize package and see their name in lights in the Bring the Funny showcase.” “Great comedians know how to make us laugh while serving as a reflection of the times, and we are excited to embrace and support the myriad of ways funny people bring us levity and humor today,” said Meredith Ahr, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment. “Kenan, Chrissy, Jeff and Amanda are not only hilarious, but are pioneers in their respective arenas and understand what it takes to have longevity and breadth in this industry. The Empire star addressed the attack as he held back tears in front of the super supportive audience. “The most important thing that I can say is to keep it simple and say thank you and I’m okay,” the star confirmed. “I’m not fully healed yet, but I’m going to and I’m going to stand strong with you all. According to him, his ribs were bruised—not cracked as was initially reported—and he did fight back during the assault. “I’m the gay Tupac,” he said about himself. As was previously reported, Jussie was attacked by two masked men allegedly shouting racial and homophobic slurs while walking outside of his Chicago apartment. The attackers reportedly hit him multiple times, poured bleach on him, and put a noose around his neck. No suspects have been apprehended as of yet. Before his appearance this weekend, Smollett issued an official statement where he explained that he is working with authorities to ensure justice is served. His message to the Los Angeles audience was of the same positive vein: “So, I will always stand for love, I will never stand for anything other than that. Regardless of what anyone else says, I will only stand for love and I hope you will all stand with me.”

Word is that the cops got a tip that cash-carrying rappers with lots jewelry had congregated downtown. Cops allegedly feared that with all the robberies taking place in the city that the men would be a target. The idea that the LAPD wanted to protect rappers from being robbery victims is beyond laughable, but we digress. When the fuzz arrived Blueface and his cohort ran off tossing their guns on the ground. ‘Face and two other mean were arrested carrying loaded pistols Blueface was charged with felony gun possession and was released on $35,000 bail.

Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Ghostface Killah And RZA Are Developing A Horror Movie RZA and Ghostface Killah are making some major moves in order to expand their filmography. According to reports from Deadline , the hip-hop legends along with producer Shaun Redick (from films like Get Out and BlacKkKlansman ) are teaming up to develop a film titled Angel of Dust. The movie is said to be a “suspense horror thriller” that RZA himself will direct. The film is reportedly inspired by true events the members of the Wu-Tang Clan experienced while growing up in the Staten Island Projects. Ghostface developed the story idea along with his manager Caruso. Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith were tapped to write the modern-day adaptation of the script. Angel of Dust is supposedly going to center on an exceptionally smart teenager and talented rapper named Casey, who is forced to grow up in the streets of Shaolin following the mysterious death of his parents. The boy ends up being confronted by gangs, crooked cops, junkies, along with “a serial killer with seemingly supernatural powers.” “It’s hard to fathom a better way to celebrate the Wu-Tang Clan’s 25th anniversary as rock and rap creative icons than producing a cutting-edge suspense thriller loosely based on true events that though terrifying helped shape one of the greatest groups of all time,” Redick said. “The writers, Leslie and Smith have taken this original idea to seismic levels.” But of course, any film wouldn’t be complete without some music–especially one being made by rap legends. The Wu-Tang Clan will provide the Angel of Dust soundtrack, which is going to be produced by both Ghostface and Caruso. RZA will score the movie. “The creative collaboration of RZA and Ghostface has stood the test of time through our music,” RZA explained. “Now the opportunity to put our creative energies together onto the silver screen has arisen and I’m turbo charged. Bong Bong!” Angel of Dust ‘s release date has not yet been announced.

A s the deep freeze sweeps several parts of the country, concerns surrounding the homeless population have been heightened. Temperatures have reached dangerously cold levels and many are worried about how those living on the streets will stay warm. A Chicago woman has taken matters into her own hands. According to CBS Chicago , Candice Payne rented hotel rooms this week so that the city’s homeless residents could have shelter in the cold weather. Candice Payne's selfless act spurred a group to rent 60 hotel rooms to keep homeless people off the streets of Chicago during the historic cold. “Maybe they didn’t know how to or where to start to help, so I’m glad that I was able to be that vehicle.” https://t.co/m7s5WVjgaC pic.twitter.com/Nip4kI8bKh — CBS Chicago (@cbschicago) February 1, 2019 Payne was motivated to step in and help men and women in need after she learned that a propane tank where many homeless people stayed in a cluster of tents had exploded, the news outlet writes. That tank was one of the only sources of heat for the community. Payne decided to step in and rented 20 rooms on her credit card so that individuals without homes would have a place to stay during the frigid temperatures. After posts about her efforts to help the homeless circulated on social media, other individuals volunteered to help. People rented out additional hotel rooms, and donated food, water, and clothes. With the support of volunteers, there has been a total of 60 rooms rented. Nearly 100 people have been accommodated for three-night stays. Payne is happy that she was able to make an impact. “Maybe they didn’t know how to or where to start to help, so I’m glad that I was able to be that vehicle,” she told the news outlet. The individuals that she has helped are thankful for all that Payne has done. “We don’t get that type of help,” one of the people staying at the hotel said. “I really needed them at that point, so they came right in time.” She and the volunteers are working towards creating more of a lasting solution for the city’s homeless population. Efforts like the one she has led are needed. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development , in 2017 there were 554,000 homeless people in the United States and 193,000 of those individuals were living on the streets and didn’t have access to shelters.
