Bono’s Back Surgery Postpones U2 Tour

New leg of the 360 Tour was set to kick off in Salt Lake City on June 3. By Kelley L. Carter Bono Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage U2 frontman Bono has undergone emergency back surgery at a hospital in Germany, a manager for the group said. Due to the hospitalization, the first date of their tour has been postponed. The 50-year-old singer, whose real name is Paul Hewson, was injured while preparing for the group’s tour. According to a statement on U2’s website , Bono is being treated by neurosurgeon Dr. Joerg Tonn and Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt. “Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate,” the statement read. “Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates.” Paul McGuinness, the band’s manager, said in an MP3 posted on the website on Friday (May 21) that because of the injury, U2’s 360 Tour stop on June 3 in Salt Lake City has been postponed. After that date, the band was scheduled to play in Anaheim, California, on June 6 and 7, followed by Denver on June 12 and Oakland, California, on June 16. There’s no word whether other dates have been canceled. Bono had recently told The Associated Press that sales of the group’s latest album, No Line on the Horizon, have been somewhat soft, which made for U2’s lowest-selling CD in more than a decade. The band also has said that the massive tour has yet to break even due to the enormous production costs of setting up and designing the 170-ton, $40 million stage. “We hope to get things resolved as soon as possible,” McGuinness said. Send your well-wishes to Bono in the comments. Related Artists Bono U2

Conan O’Brien Speaks on "Toxic" Relationship with NBC, Backstabbing Jay Leno

It’s been a good couple weeks for Conan O’Brien: He’s landed on his funny feet at TBS, and he’s been named the second most influential artist on the planet. This Sunday on 60 Minutes , meanwhile, the comedian will speak in depth for the first time on the decision by NBC to toss him aside as host of The Tonight Show and replace him with Jay Leno, who was all too happy to take back the gig. Would Conan have done the same thing in Jay’s place? “He went and took that show back, and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know – I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien says. “If I had surrendered The Tonight Show and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well – and then… six months later. But that’s me. Everyone’s got their own way of doing things.” A classy individual, as evidenced by this statement he released in the middle of the late-night mess, Conan continued to emphasize that he could only speak for himself, refusing to completely lay into Leno. As for why he left NBC, O’Brien remembers thinking “this relationship is going be toxic and maybe we just need to go our separate ways. “That’s really how it felt to me… and I started to feel that I’m not sure these people even really want me here … I can’t do it [anymore].” While we appreciate how mature and professional Conan has been throughout this ordeal, we’re also glad David Letterman is around – to basically be the exact opposite .

Bret Michaels Undergoing Tests, Hopes To Resume Tour In Summer

‘We will then continue with all scheduled dates throughout the summer and fall,’ a statement says. By Kelley L. Carter Bret Michaels Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage The cause of rocker Bret Michaels’ brain hemorrhage from last week hasn’t been discovered, but his return to the stage is already in the works. It’s possible that the current “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant could even be back rocking the house by the end of May. The 47-year-old former Poison frontman has been in the hospital since April 22, recovering from the hemorrhage (which came on the heels of an April 12 emergency appendectomy), and he most recently was upgraded from critical to stable condition. A statement from his website thanks fans for their continued support and the well-wishes, and also says that the rocker is responding well to tests and treatments. More information on Michaels’ condition is expected to be release on Monday, as he’s undergoing a varying amount of tests to determine the exact cause of the rupture. “While Bret is recovering we obviously have some shows that are being rescheduled. We are working to reschedule dates from now until May 21. At this time we are planning to resume the tour May 26 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas,, provided there are no further complications or setbacks,” the statement read. “We will then continue with all scheduled dates throughout the summer and fall, including the June and July tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Look for additional information in the days and weeks to come.” The statement also told fans who hold tickets to rescheduled shows that theirs will be honored on the new dates.
