Charlize Theron ‘Fell In Love’ With ‘Agent 13’ Concept

‘Snow White’ actress tells MTV News how she ‘stalked’ director Rupert Wyatt after hearing about the sci-fi adaptation. By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Charlize Theron Photo: MTV News Charlize Theron has played more than a few not-so-nice characters. She received critical acclaim for her role in “Young Adult,” where she played an unstable woman intent on winning back her married high school sweetheart. Now she’s working on a project with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director Rupert Wyatt called “Agent 13,” in which she’ll reportedly play another femme fatale. When MTV News caught up with the “Snow White and the Huntsman” actress, she revealed how the sci-fi project came together. “It’s a pitch that I heard a month or so ago and I fell in love with this pitch,” she said. “And ironically, at the same time, I really wanted to have a general [meeting] — ’cause you know how I stalk directors — with Rupert ’cause I really love what he’s been doing. I brought up the pitch to him and he said, ‘I really love this. I think we should talk about it.’ And so it was really just the universe coming together.” “Agent 13” is an adaptation of a 1988 comic book that follows an organization called the Brotherhood, which comprises survivors of the lost civilization of Lemuria. The title character was kidnapped by the Brotherhood as a young boy and trained to be one of their top spies. When Agent 13 realizes the group has been corrupted, though, he sets off to take them down. Fans are speculating that Theron will play one of the agent’s two sidekicks — his seductive lover, China White, or his beautiful, devoted assistant Maggie Darr — but the actress isn’t sure which character she’ll play. “You know, we’re writing it right now so it’s a very, very loose pitch,” she said, “but it’s an alternate world story so it’s big and epic and cool.” With the Wyatt project still in its early stages, fans can get their fill of evil Theron as the wicked Queen Ravenna in “Snow White” when it opens on June 1. Her character’s cruel nature, she said, gave her license to act like a jerk between takes. “I’m like yelling for sandwiches and coffee,” she joked. “And then, Chris [Hemsworth] comes by and he’s like, ‘You’re not shooting right now, Charlize!’ And I say, ‘Your head on a silver platter!’ And he says, ‘No, you’re not the queen right now.’ And then it crushes me, and I cry, and I deal with it.” While Theron hasn’t ruled out playing the nice girl, she teasingly said that for now she takes on the roles most familiar to her. “I stick with what I’m good at,” she said, laughing. Brad Pitt Says Violence In ‘Killing Them Softly’ Is ‘Important’

Actor also tells reporters at Cannes Film Festival that he and Angelina Jolie have yet to set a wedding date. By Kara Warner Brad Pitt at the premiere of “Killing Them Softly” at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Photo: Anne-Christine Poujoulat/ Getty Images When it comes to the comings and goings of Brad Pitt, nearly everything the A-list actor says or does makes international news. That’s why, when Pitt participated in a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday (May 22), he found himself faced with several questions not entirely related to his upcoming flick “Killing Them Softly.” And according New York magazine’s Vulture , Pitt was more than happy to answer all of them. He was asked about the heavy violence in “Killing Them Softly” and whether, as a dad, he had any reservations about playing a killer. In the gritty crime drama, he portrays a hitman who is hired by a crime boss (Ray Liotta) to find and kill a pair of overzealous upstarts who attempt to stake their claim by robbing a high-profile card game staged by Liotta’s character. But according to Pitt, the role didn’t disturb him at all. “Not in any way, because murder is an accepted possibility when you’re dealing in crime,” he told reporters. “I would have a much harder time playing a racist or something along those lines. That would be much more unsettling for me than a guy who shoots another guy in the face.” Pitt went on to say that the violence in the film is realistic in that it’s not glorified for the sake of entertainment. “We live in such a violent world. I certainly grew up hunting, which is a very violent act,” he said when asked if the film was in any way influenced by the popularity of graphic video games that involve gangsters and hired killers. “Have you ever had a hamburger? Have you seen how they butcher cows? It’s barbaric, it’s horrendous, it’s very violent. This is the world we live in, so I see it as absolutely important to film.” The Oscar-nominated actor even happily answered a quandary about whether or not his upcoming marriage to longtime love Angelina Jolie would affect his work schedule. “We have no date. We actually really, truly have no date,” he said. “It’s something that makes sense to us … and we’re still hoping we figure out marriage equality in the States before then, before that date.”

One Direction On The Wanted: ‘The More, The Merrier’

1D’s Niall Horan weighs in on rumors of a boy-band rivalry, saying the Wanted are ‘really nice guys.’ By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: Astrid Stawiarz/ Getty Images There’s something happening right now. That something is a British boy-band explosion , led by One Direction and the Wanted . While 1D touts candy-coated love affairs in their music, the Wanted are selling ones that are enjoyed best with an adult beverage. While they each cater to different audiences, one thing they have in common is that girls absolutely love them. As both bands bring their signature charms to the States, having already conquered their native U.K., many fans are wondering if there’s any rivalry, friendly or otherwise, brewing between the two. One Directioner Niall Horan assures MTV News that everything’s cool between the two groups. “We all know each other. It’s the same in the U.K. as it is here, everyone knows each other,” he explained. “And, we haven’t seen the Wanted in a while. We just haven’t been in the same place at the same time. They’re really nice guys. And every time we’ve met them, we’ve had a good laugh with them. The more, the merrier! Let’s bring the British invasion over here and show them what we got, I suppose.” One Direction dropped their debut album, Up All Night , this month and became the first English act to debut at #1 on the Billboard albums chart. Meanwhile, the Wanted will drop their U.S. self-titled debut next month, riding the wave off their hit single, “Glad You Came.” But, it’s not just boy bands that U.S. audiences are buying and loving: There’s a full-on British invasion, as Horan called it, which reaches far beyond just pop groups, and also includes chart-topping pop divas. “It’s pretty cool,” he said. “Adele and us and Jessie J and the Wanted, it’s all very good.” Related Artists One Direction
