‘The Office’ Stars ‘Excited’ For Will Ferrell’s Guest Spot

‘I think I gotta take some improv classes or something,’ Rainn Wilson tells MTV News of funnyman’s four-episode arc. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Kara Warner Rainn Wilson Photo: Jeff Vespa/ Getty Images Steve Carell will be ditching his role as clueless branch manager Michael Scott on “The Office” soon, but not without a laugh-fest assisted by funnyman Will Ferrell. And the actors who play Scott’s Dunder Mifflin underlings are amped for the “Anchorman” star’s appearance. Last week, producers announced that Ferrell would appear in four episodes of the NBC comedy as a fellow branch manager who is just as nutty as Scott. When MTV News caught up with Angela Kinsey, who plays tightly wound accountant Angela Martin, and Rainn Wilson, who portrays paper salesman/ beet farmer Dwight Schrute, on the SAG Awards red carpet Sunday night (January 30), the duo said they were looking forward to some Ferrell/Carell comedic mayhem. “I am so excited about Will Ferrell,” Kinsey exclaimed. “What if I was like, ‘Nah, boo.’ No, I’m totally excited. Him and Steve are friends in real life, and I think we’re just about to have a lot of fun. I can’t wait.” Wilson said he needed to sharpen his comedic skills if he is going to spar onscreen with the “Megamind” star. “I think I gotta take some improv classes or something like that. I gotta hone up. He’s a master, so I can’t wait. I can’t wait,” Wilson said. As far as how Ferrell and Wilson’s characters would interact in Scranton, Wilson said the eccentric Dwight probably wouldn’t extend his hero worship of Michael Scott to his newly arrived counterpart. “I think Dwight will probably butt heads and not like him at all, which will make it a lot of fun,” he said. Executive producer Paul Lieberstein, who also appears on the show as Scott’s HR-rep rival Toby Flenderson, quipped that the show would provide a boost to Ferrell’s already high profile. “We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” he said. “We are proud to continue ‘The Office’s’ tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: Tremendous raw sexuality.” Are you looking forward to catching Will Ferrell on “The Office”? Will Ferrell Signs On For Four Episodes Of ‘The Office’

Actor will play a branch manager who is ‘just as inappropriate as Steve Carell’s Michael Scott character.’ By Kara Warner Will Ferrell Photo: John Sciulli/ Getty Images Many fans of “The Office” have likely been lamenting the upcoming exit of star Steve Carell since it was announced last summer. Unfortunately, with just a few months left in the funnyman’s tenure, that end is very near. However given the popularity of both Carell and the show, it was likely that NBC wouldn’t let him depart without a big send-off. On Wednesday (January 26), it was revealed that Carell’s exit from “The Office” will indeed be big. According to , Carell’s pal and “Anchorman” co-star Will Ferrell has signed on to appear in a four-episode arc of the comedy series. Ferrell will reportedly play a branch manager who visits the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch from the home office and is “just as inappropriate as Steve Carell’s Michael Scott character.” NBC has not yet announced when those episodes will air, but Ferrell is said to be committed to appear in one episode after Carell’s finale. The Emmy-winning show’s executive producer Paul Lieberstein (who also appears on the show as HR executive/ Michael Scott nemesis Toby Flenderson) explained to Deadline that their goal in signing on Ferrell was twofold: to help send off Carell in a big way, but also to help get “The Other Guys” star more exposure. “We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” Lieberstein said. “We are proud to continue ‘The Office’s’ tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see. Tremendous raw sexuality.” Do you think this Will Ferrell guy has what it takes to be a TV star? Let us know in the comments!

How Three Veteran Series Got Their Groove Back

The best part about the holiday season — besides the fact that it is the holiday season; suck it, hattterrrrrsssssss — is that the fall television season has basically come to an end. By this time next week, most of your favorite shows will have shuffled off until January (or longer in the case of Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead ) when they’ll return to warm your lonely winter evenings. In honor of this quickly approaching television service outage, it feels appropriate to remind you about a few veteran shows you might have removed from the DVR list. Don’t worry, though: There’s always time to catch up over Christmas.
