Watch Steve Carell and Paul Rudd Mock LeBron James, Outback Steakhouse

If you missed the 2010 ESPY Awards last night, then you also missed Will Ferrell’s impression of a Vuvuzela ! (actually more annoying than the torture instrument used at the World Cup), Tracy Morgan’s send-up of Nelson Mandela, and a parody of LeBron James: The Decision , courtesy of Steve Carell and Paul Rudd.

Amy Ryan Returning to The Office Next Season

According to actress and writer Mindy Kaling that is: “We set her return up in the finale, so it would be the biggest [cop-out] of all time if we didn’t [follow through] on it.” Not that this should come as a surprise — with Steve Carell making season six his victory lap, what better way to send Michael Scott into the sunset than with Ryan’s Holly Flax by his side? Wica what , indeed. [ EW ]

‘Despicable Me’ Supervillains Triumph Over ‘Eclipse’

Steve Carell’s animated flick takes #1 at the box office, beating the ‘Twilight’ sequel and ‘Predators.’ By Josh Wigler “Despicable Me” Photo: Universal The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Despicable Me” ($60.1 million) #2 “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ($33.4 million) #3 “Predators” ($25.3 million) #4 “Toy Story 3” ($22 million) #5 “The Last Airbender” ($17.2 million) Audiences clearly didn’t despise “Despicable Me” this weekend, as Universal’s latest family-friendly animated flick won the top spot at the box office over rivals “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Predators.” “Despicable Me” stars Steve Carell as Gru, a diabolical supervillain with an army of minions at his disposal. His current mission in life is to challenge his rival, Vector (Jason Segel), for supervillain supremacy, but Gru finds himself sidetracked by the arrival of three orphaned girls who suddenly look to him as a father figure. The tale of a bad guy gone good was widely embraced by audiences across the country, rocketing “Despicable Me” to an unexpected $60.1 million first-place finish. With a production budget of $69 million, “Despicable Me” is quite the lovely new property for Universal, with franchise potential going forward. Although superheroes and villains led the pack at the box office this weekend, supernatural creatures weren’t far behind. “Eclipse” took second place in its second weekend in theaters. With a domestic weekend worth $33.4 million, the third “Twilight” film has earned a massive $237 million in the U.S. since opening on June 30, with an even greater $456 million worldwide total. Beyond “Despicable Me,” the weekend’s other major new release was “Predators,” producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal’s resurrection of the languishing science-fiction franchise. Starring Adrien Brody as one of several mercenaries abducted by aliens and turned into prey for the titular creatures, “Predators” managed a solid $25.3 million opening domestically and $18 million overseas, surpassing its $40 million production budget with a $43.3 million worldwide total. “Toy Story 3” and “The Last Airbender” finished in fourth and fifth place with $22 million and $17.2 million, respectively. The weekend’s highest per screen averaged belonged to newcomer “The Kids Are All Right,” scoring a walloping $72,143 per screen at just seven locations. Upcoming Releases Nicolas Cage brings some magic to the box office as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” hits this week, while director Christopher Nolan and star Leonardo DiCaprio remind you that the dream is real in “Inception.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Despicable Me” and “Eclipse.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Eclipse’ Lights Up July 4th Weekend Box Office

‘Twilight’ threequel beats out ‘The Last Airbender’ but doesn’t surpass opening numbers of its predecessor ‘New Moon.’ By Josh Wigler Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit The Box-Office Top Five #1 “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ($82.5 million) #2 “The Last Airbender” ($53.3 million) #3 “Toy Story 3” ($42.2 million) #4 “Grown Ups” ($25.9 million) #5 “Knight and Day” ($13.8 million) Whether you’re on Team Edward or Team Jacob, “Twilight” fans of all shapes, sizes and loyalties flocked to theaters this weekend to award the supernatural franchise’s latest installment, “Eclipse,” with the first-place prize at the Fourth of July holiday weekend box office. “Eclipse” took an estimated $82.5 million from Friday through Sunday, resulting in a $175.3 million cumulative total since opening on Wednesday (June 30). Having established new Hollywood records for widest-ever opening release, best midnight debut and single greatest Wednesday premiere, “Eclipse” was unable to eclipse its own predecessor’s success — “New Moon” remains the “Twilight” franchise’s champion with an opening weekend total of $178 million. Despite this, there’s no denying that “Eclipse” is already a huge hit, having surpassed its own production budget by more than $200 million thanks to the $100.2 million earned from foreign locations. Even as “Eclipse” easily took first place, director M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” managed a solid second-place finish worth $53.3 million, resulting in a cumulative total of $70.5 million since opening on Thursday. Those opening numbers aren’t as impressive when measured against the film’s reported $150 million production budget, but given the massive amount of critical backlash levied at “The Last Airbender,” the movie actually performed rather well under the circumstances. “Toy Story 3” landed in third place with $42.2 million, bringing Pixar’s latest to a massive $451.9 million worldwide total after only three weeks in theaters. Fourth and fifth place went to last weekend’s newcomers “Grown Ups” and “Knight and Day” with $25.9 million and $13.8 million, respectively. Upcoming Releases Adrien Brody tries his hand as an action hero this coming weekend in producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal’s “Predators,” while Steve Carell and Jason Segel battle it out in superhero comedy “Despicable Me.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” “The Last Airbender” and “Toy Story 3.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Ricky Gervais Bids Steve Carell Adieu from The Office

While NBC hasn’t confirmed that Steve Carell plans to make the next season of The Office his last at Dunder-Mifflin, executive producer Ricky Gervais has wasted no time in offering up his farewell. Said Gervais: “It was expected of me, as executive producer, to persuade him to stay on. With syndication in full swing the more successful the show remains, the more billions we all make. It was tempting, but the truth is, I believe he is doing the right thing. He’s fulfilled his contract and more, and is a huge film star now I’d be lying if I said he should do more. He shouldn’t. He should move on, continue to do great work, and buy a new house every time The Office is repeated somewhere.” That sound you heard was Angela Bromstad throwing her morning latte at the wall. Can Anyone Explain What the Hell Despicable Me Is?

So there’s this movie called Despicable Me coming out. There are some commercials making the rounds on TV, and a few posters have popped up here and there. It appears to be animated and in 3D, and Steve Carell’s involvement is noted. I think Universal is the studio, but I can’t be sure. In fact, beyond the aforementioned citations, I can’t be sure of anything with this one. Am I the only one completely in the dark about this movie? If so, why? And if not, can you please explain it, starting with the title?

Steve Carell Leaving ‘The Office’

‘I just think it’s time,’ he says of his exit after next season. By Katie Byrne Steve Carrell Photo: Getty Images Steve Carell has confirmed that he is leaving NBC’s “The Office” after next season. “I just think it’s time,” he told E! News on the red carpet for “Despicable Me,” the upcoming animated movie he provides a voice for. “I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on, I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.” Fans might disagree, but Carell seems to think the show can go on without his clueless boss, Michael Scott. “It doesn’t certainly mean the end of the show,” he said. “I think it’s just a dynamic change to the show, which could be a good thing, actually. Add some new life and some new energy. … I see it as a positive in general for the show.” While Carell was a “Daily Show” correspondent and Will Ferrell’s weatherman sidekick in “Anchorman” prior to the 2005 premiere of the American “Office,” the ad-lib-heavy comedy made him a household name. His breakout movie role in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” soon followed, and he’s had a string of big-screen work since, from “Little Miss Sunshine” to the upcoming “Dinner for Schmucks” with Paul Rudd . With his exit announcement, Carell expects things to be business as usual for the rest of the gang over at Dunder Mifflin. “I didn’t see it as a huge thing, and I certainly didn’t anticipate any sort of hubbub over it,” he said. “I’m just not going to extend my contract, but I didn’t see it as a huge deal. And the show is great, and the ensemble is so strong, and the writers are great, so it’s just one part of that ensemble drifting off. They’ve incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great story lines that I have no doubt it’ll continue as strong if not stronger than ever.” What do you think of Steve Carell’s exit from “The Office”? Let us know in the comments.

On DVD: Tim Burton Goes Trippy But Tame with Alice in Wonderland

I tend to think ambitious film versions of Alice in Wonderland get produced when there is otherwise a serious lack of good dope: There were only a few trifling TV maladaptions in the ’60s, when military-grade hallucinogens were available on every college-town street corner. Today, it’s almost impossible to find trip-worthy pharms anywhere, and so we get the most gratuitously outrageous Alice yet, crafted as another tchotchke in Tim Burton’s wonder cabinet, and warpingly digital from the top to the bottom of every frame. The movie practically breaks its back trying to deliver an old-fashioned lysergic buzz, and the effort is most of what you walk away admiring. Honestly, Burton’s Wonderland looks like a mashup of Hogwarts, Oz, Middle Earth, DisneyWorld, FAO Schwartz and 300’s Thermopylae — nothing has been left out.
