Kanye West to Launch New Production Company, Likens Self to Steve Jobs

Watch the throne … Steve Jobs. Kanye West, who has never been accused of thinking small, or having a modest opinion of himself, detailed plans for a new production company on Twitter Wednesday. In a three-hour rant, the 34-year-old rapper / hip-hop mogul outlined his plan for Donda, a brand-new, far-reaching company named after his late mother Donda West. Donda will “pick up where Steve Jobs left off,” West said of the late, visionary Apple CEO / founder. Way to set manageable expectations. How will it do that, exactly, Kanye? With 22 divisions of writers, DJs, publicists, designers, musicians, scientists and SO much more, the company headed by the musician will strive to “make products and experiences that people want and can afford,” West Tweeted . He will “help simplify and aesthetically improve everything we see hear, touch, taste and feel,” and “dream of, create, advertise and produce products driven equally by emotional want and utilitarian need… To marry our wants and needs.” Again, no baby steps for Mr. West. West hinted that Donda is releasing a “semi sci-fi” film in 2012 called “2016 OLYMPICS.” And that’s not all. West told fans he may become creative director of a Jetsons film and wants to “design” the MTV Video Music Awards. Beyond the worlds of design, film, music, technology and product development, the “N*ggas in Paris” rapper also wants to fix America’s schools, he wrote.

Siri Dragged Into Nuclear Husband-Wife Argument

Poor Siri. We feel for her, getting caught up in this one. Steve Jobs probably never had this in mind when he invented you … or did he? Who knew the helpful, virtual iPhone assistant was so adept at damage control? Even Apple technology has some limitations, though. In this hilarious College Humor video, a husband and wife argue so vociferously that even the highly trained, perpetually even-keeled Siri became overwhelmed … Siri Argument

So Sad: Steve Jobs’ Biological Mother Has No Clue He Died

Wow… While Steve Jobs’ biological father is getting side-eyes for trying to get in touch with his son in his final days, his birth mother is holed up in a nursing home completely unaware that the son she was forced to give up passed away. Joanne Simpson, who reluctantly gave her son up for adoption after falling pregnant when she was a student, is seriously unwell in a nursing home in Los Angeles and has no idea her son has died, MailOnline can reveal. Sources close to the family said the Apple founder’s biological mother, Joanne Simpson, 79, is tragically battling advanced dementia. She has very limited mental capacity and is said barely to know who she is, let alone what has become of the son she gave away. Jobs was adopted in 1955 after being born to Abdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian man, and Joanne Schieble, who was a graduate student at the time. The couple were not married and keeping him would have been deemed shameful by their communities. Brought up by Paul and Clara Jobs, Steve is thought to have reconciled with his mother but never to have made contact with his biological father. In his renowned 2005 commencement address at Stanford University, Jobs described how his mother signed the adoption papers reluctantly, wanting to give him away to a well-educated couple. Paul Jobs was a high-school drop-out who became a machinist and his wife Clara never graduated from college. Joanne Simpson eventually married Jandali and the couple had another child, Mona Simpson, who went on to become a famous novelist, before getting divorced. She later remarried. ‘My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student,’ Jobs said in his speech. ‘She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates.’ When he grew up, Jobs found his mother and the two kept in touch. He also forged a relationship with his biological sister. Despite the reconciliation, Simpson’s dementia is so serious she has no idea about her son’s death. Her condition has so far deteriorated she is said briefly to have been admitted to a mental hospital after neighbours reported seeing her wandering the streets half naked. A source said: ‘Steve was one of the richest men in the world, but his wealth couldn’t save him and it couldn’t save his mother. ‘We used to find her wondering the streets wearing only a house coat with nothing underneath and sometimes we would find her wearing barely anything climbing trees in her bare feet. ‘In the end someone dropped her at a mental hospital as they were so concerned for her wellbeing and then when her daughter found out they eventually moved her to a nursing home. ‘She was a lovely woman so it was very hard to see her demise. Now she is locked in her own body and barely knows who she is let alone Steve anymore.’ Dayum. Source

iStans: Thousands Camped Out Last Night Waiting For The Not-So-New iPhone 4S

And some people thought Steve Jobs ‘ death was going to cost Apple money… Throngs of Apple fans lined up in the wee hours Friday outside the company’s flagship store in Manhattan to be among the first to get their hands on the new iPhone 4S. Two hours before Apple’s new smartphone was slated to go on sale, hundreds of aspiring buyers filled the plaza outside the Fifth Avenue glass cube, echoing scenes that had already played out earlier in the day in Australia, Japan, Germany, France and other Apple stores around the world. Some fans started their iPhone vigil literally weeks in advance: Keenen Thompson and Jessica Mellow arrived 18 days ago to claim the No. 1 spot in line. They chronicled their “urban iCamping adventure” on a blog called iPhoneWhatever. One aspiring buyer waited in line on crutches. “I got hit by a car and had surgery a few weeks ago. There’s tons of metal plates in my foot — it shattered,” said David Betz, a 26-year-old bartender who began his wait at 11 p.m. last night. “Is it worth it? We’ll find out.” Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid… Marketers worked through the crowd, hawking iPhone accessories, trade-in sites for used phones, and even tents. As a light drizzle fell, representatives from iPhone casemaker OtterBox roamed around passing out rain ponchos and “survival kits” filled with tools like snacks and chapstick. The turnout was more muted than last year, with around 250 people waiting 90 minutes before the iPhone went on sale. Jose Pena, a 23-year-old college student, speculated that the rainy weather was to blame. “Plus, this iPhone isn’t the biggest upgrade,” he said. Queuing up for the new iPhone has become an annual tradition, drawing Apple zealots, celebrities and passers-by into the mix. At Apple’s Los Gatos, Calif., a famous figure claimed the head-of-the-line spot: Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who camped out with an iPad, a folding armchair and a stash of Diet Dr Pepper. “I want to get mine along with the millions of other fans,” Wozniak told CNN. The New York line drew a mix of first-time buyers and veterans. Jessica Mery, 36, said she has joined every iPhone line since the device first launched in 2007. “Every time its been 10-plus hours,” she said. But this wait is especially poignant: “It’s more meaningful to me because of Steve Jobs’ passing,” she said. “It’s a must-get.” For a phone. In a recession. Apple users are a bigger cult than Oprah fans. Source

Apple’s iOS 5 Update Now Available For iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch [TECH]

View original post here:

It’s IAmGWoods with a little tech news. Yes, I am #TeamApple. After 128 days, 7 Beta releases, and 1 gold master, it’s finally arrived. iOS 5 has just been released to everyone (or at least, everyone with a compatible iOS device). For those who hadn’t finagled their way into the developer Beta’s: 1) you’re a more patient human than I could ever hope to be, and 2) you’re in for a treat. This is the biggest update iOS has seen since the addition of the App Store, and it’s jam-packed full of good stuff. The iOS 5 update is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPod touch 3rd/4th generation, and the iPad/iPad 2. It’ll also come preloaded on the 4S, of course, when that device launches later this week. It’s been a while since iOS 5 was announced to the world, so here’s a quick recap of some of the biggest features: iCloud: Apple’s cloud-based content/data syncing service. Backs up your content, photos, etc. in the cloud for safe keeping, provides one-click access to redownloading all the apps you’ve ever purchased, etc. iMessage: Apple’s free iOS-to-iOS messaging solution. SMS dies today. Notification Center: Apple has completely overhauled their old, antiquated alerts system. You now drag down from the top of the screen to see a drawer with all notifications. Newstand: Bundles all of your e-magazine/newspaper subscriptions into one smart folder Reminders: a new to-do/reminder system, complete with location-based alerts Twitter Integration Much improved Camera UX (You can access the camera with a double tap of the home button on the homescreen, and use the volume up key to take a photo) Crazy simple photo editing (Cropping, rotating, red-eye reduction) within the Photo app Over-the-air updates and PC-less device activation Downloading the update is pretty simple: just plug in, pop into iTunes, tap on your device’s name in the left-hand navigation, and click the “Update” button found on the page that pops up. If you’re not seeing the update, give it a few minutes — the servers are getting hammered pretty hard right now.
