‘Perfect Citizen’ Program Places ‘Sensors’ Throughout Web

The federal government is launching an expansive program dubbed “Perfect Citizen” to detect cyber assaults on private companies and government agencies running such critical infrastructure as the electricity grid and nuclear-power plants, according to people familiar with the program. The surveillance by the National Security Agency, the government’s chief eavesdropping agency, would rely on a set of sensors deployed in computer networks for critical infrastructure that would be triggered by unusual activity suggesting an impending cyber attack, though it wouldn’t persistently monitor the whole system, these people said. Defense contractor Raytheon Corp. recently won a classified contract for the initial phase of the surveillance effort valued at up to $100 million, said a person familiar with the project. An NSA spokeswoman said the agency had no information to provide on the program. A Raytheon spokesman declined to comment. Some industry and government officials familiar with the program see Perfect Citizen as an intrusion by the NSA into domestic affairs, while others say it is an important program to combat an emerging security threat that only the NSA is equipped to provide. “The overall purpose of the [program] is our Government…feel[s] that they need to insure the Public Sector is doing all they can to secure Infrastructure critical to our National Security,” said one internal Raytheon email, the text of which was seen by The Wall Street Journal. “Perfect Citizen is Big Brother.” Continued at: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704545004575352983850463108.html?m… added by: Dagum

Jon Stewart Smacks Down Fox News For Fear-Mongering About ‘Muslims In Space’ (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart watched in awe last night as the gang at Fox News slammed President Barack Obama for what Stewart called their fear of “Muslims in space.” As TPM previously reported, conservatives have been fear-mongering about a new initiative in the space program to promote outreach to Muslim nations. “What kind of presidential asshole would use the space program to build a bridge to peace?” Stewart asked, before showing a clip of President Ronald Reagan talking about using the space program to work with the Soviet Union. “Liberal fartbag,” said Stewart. “That guy had a pre-Cold War mentality when it came to NASA.” added by: TimALoftis

Kristen Stewart’s Boney Leg Show Continues

Kristen Stewart is everywhere these days promoting her latest sensitive vampire movie, I’m not complaining, she’s showing off her skinny long boney legs every chance she gets and I like it. They’re all pale and sexy. Hot. Anyhow, I’m glad that she’s at least trying to wear more women’s clothing, it suits her, but I know that once she’s done promoting this crap she’ll probably go back to her regular grungy jeans and ladies softball coach sweater so we’d better enjoy it while we can. more pictures of Kristen Stewart here

Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner Dish On Her Culinary Skills

‘I get really embarrassed when people ask me what I cook, for some reason,’ ‘Eclipse’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart attends a New York screening of “Eclipse” on Monday Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Apparently, when Kristen Stewart isn’t making movies, visiting talk shows or dodging paparazzi, the actress is quite the foodie and budding chef. “I cooked dinner for 20 people; I was really proud of myself,” the 20-year-old told MTV News at the red carpet for a special screening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in New York on Monday night. “I get really embarrassed when people ask me what I cook, for some reason,” she added. “I shouldn’t say that I cook anymore. There was like a big BBQ situation and, like, a bunch of steaks and veggies, and I made chicken piccata. I’m so embarrassed right now. But I made homemade marinara sauce starting at, like, 2 in the afternoon. It wasn’t done until 8. It was incredible. The ‘Twilight’ cast showed up.” But even though Taylor Lautner is a fan of Stewart’s cooking, he didn’t get an invitation to the big feast. Maybe it was a vampires-only meal? “I have sampled her food,” he said, when he heard about the dinner party. “I was not at the feast, Kristen. But I have tried her food.” Lautner may have missed out on her marinara sauce, but he did get to sample a more unusual dish Stewart whipped up. “Like, OK, you know kumquats? There’s apparently a fruit called loquats. Yeah, I didn’t know either. And she made a loquat pie.” What would you make for a “Twilight” dinner party? Tell us in the comments! Jon Stewart Asks David Axelrod: Has This Government Proven Itself Competent Enough To Regulate Industry?

Jon Stewart on Monday asked David Axelrod a truly extraordinary question: has this government proven itself competent enough to regulate industry? Speaking to President Obama’s senior advisor on “The Daily Show,” the Comedy Central star was in the middle of a rather interesting discussion when he surprisingly said, “It’s clear that this administration believes that government can have a stronger hand in regulating Wall Street, in regulating energy, in doing these things.” “But, has government during this time proved itself competent? And are our only two choices sort of an incompetent bureaucracy that doesn’t quite regulate properly or free market anarchy?” he asked. When Axelrod predictably tried to blame all the problems in the country on the previous administration’s supposed lack of regulation and oversight, Stewart wasn’t having any of it (video follows with transcript and commentary):  JON STEWART, HOST: It’s clear that this administration believes that government can have a stronger hand in regulating Wall Street, in regulating energy, in doing these things. But, has government during this time proved itself competent? And are our only two choices sort of an incompetent bureaucracy that doesn’t quite regulate properly or free market anarchy? Before you can make the case that this administration and government can effectively regulate shouldn’t they, you know, the MMS case makes a pretty clear point that the regulatory system is somewhat broken, and you guys had a chance to… DAVID AXELROD, SENIOR OBAMA ADVISOR: The answer Jon is not to abandon the notion that there have to be rules and oversight. The answer is to make it, to make it work better. There’s a long legacy there at MMS, and frankly at other agencies of government because the last administration wasn’t really interested in regulating. STEWART: But why then, why not then go in and really, with the urgency? You know, the fear is the government is not agile enough, is not urgent enough to deal with things like a catastrophic oil spill. AXELROD: There is, there is no doubt that in retrospect we would have liked to move faster on the MMS situation, but understand that we were also dealing with the economic crisis, and, and, and, and, and the wars, and a whole range of issues, and we, that was, that was a defect that we’re correcting and moving aggressively to correct now. But the answer isn’t to walk away from it. I think we tested the proposition of what no regulation means. What you get, you get the leak, you get the mine disaster in West Virginia, and you get an economic crisis. And everybody recognizes that government has to play a role. It shouldn’t be an oppressive role, but there has to be some firm oversight and some rules of people respond to. These, you know, it’s pretty clear the oil industry is not going to regulate itself. STEWART: But do you think, I guess my point is before you have the opportunity, before you can earn the ability to go in and, and, and do that, don’t, don’t we have to show a certain baseline level of competence. Wait until you hear what Axelrod used as an example of the Obama administration’s competence:  AXELROD: Yeah, well I mean, I would argue that we have shown a baseline level of competence. The thing is that when you show a level of competence, it doesn’t become a story. It only becomes a story when there are problems. Take the H1N1 flu for example. We jumped on that quickly. Some people criticized us for being too aggressive on it, but I think we averted a larger public health disaster. Yeah, they sure did a GREAT job with that swine flu scaring the heck out of people over what turned out to be nothing just like in the 70s. If that’s what this White House considers competence, we’re REALLY in trouble. As for Stewart, that’s one heckuva good job by a comedian. Makes the clowns at MSNBC look like the real jokers, doesn’t it?  What really made this so marvelous is that he went in a direction most journalists today would eschew at all costs. Consider that today’s liberal media members view industry as the enemy that needs to be vigorously constrained by government, but they never ask if government is competent enough to do it.  Obviously this oil spill has to raise some uncertainty in this regard, and Stewart marvelously challenged a senior administration official to explain why this White House is up to the task.   On the other hand, he better be careful with this line of questioning or he just might get thrown off the liberal reservation as Keith Olbermann recently was when he dared criticize Obama.  Maybe that would be a good thing for Stewart who then would really be free to ask the questions of this administration most so-called journalists won’t. A man can dream, can’t he?

Kristen Stewart Reveals Why She Dyed Her Hair ‘Reddish Brown’

‘Eclipse’ star tells MTV News she’s sporting lighter hair for her role in the novel-turned-film ‘On the Road.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: Getty Images Kristen Stewart is used to all sorts of different hairstyles, having changed her hairdo drastically for her turn as Joan Jett in “The Runaways” opposite Dakota Fanning. But for her latest hair change, Stewart is going in the opposite direction from her “Runaways” style, looking instead for something brighter as she heads out “On the Road.” “It’s kind of blond right now. Like, reddish brown. I’m doing it for ‘On the Road,’ ” she told MTV News on the red carpet for a special screening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in New York on Monday night (June 28). Stewart is taking a break from the supernatural world of “Twilight” for “On the Road,” based on the acclaimed 1957 novel from writer Jack Kerouac. The story follows Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a youth who sets off on a cross-country road trip and meets a variety of notable characters, including the charismatic but deeply flawed Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund). Stewart will play Marylou, the on-again, off-again wife to Hedlund’s character. “Twilight” fans aren’t likely to get as passionate about Stewart’s fictional relationship with Hedlund as they are in taking sides between Team Edward and Team Jacob, but Stewart herself said she’s quite impressed with Hedlund as an actor. “I’ve met him a bunch of times, and I’ve hung out with him twice,” she said of her co-star. “He’s a great guy. … He’s written crazy stuff for it. He’s super into it. Not to sound … I don’t know how to put it. He’s, like, so in character, and he’s driving to Montreal. He’s awesome. I’m really, really excited.” Stewart, Hedlund and Riley join actress Kirsten Dunst in the cast for “On the Road.” The film will be directed by Walter Salles and executive-produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Kristen Stewart ‘Excited’ About ‘Breaking Dawn’ Being Two Movies

‘It would have lacked so much because you couldn’t cram the story into one,’ the ‘Eclipse’ star says. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Long overdue weddings, unexpected pregnancies, vicious vampire wars: With so much ground to cover, how could “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” possibly have satisfied fans with just one movie? Frankly, it probably couldn’t have, which is why Summit Entertainment announced that the final “Twilight” chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” would be split into two separate movies. The decision to have the film unfold in two parts brings a sigh of relief not only from fans of the supernatural romance series, but also from many of the series’ cast and crew members. Kristen Stewart told MTV News that she was thrilled to hear “Breaking Dawn” would get a two-part treatment. “I’m really excited,” Stewart said when we spoke with her as she promoted “Eclipse.” “I didn’t want to read the script that was just one [movie]. It would have lacked so much because you just couldn’t cram the story into one. At least that was my opinion, so I’m really excited.” And Stewart has many reasons to be excited. Her character Bella goes through some dramatic transformations over the course of this final story. Stewart’s Bella finally marries Pattinson’s Edward and gives birth to their human-vampire hybrid baby, Renesmee Cullen. And perhaps most incredibly, Bella becomes a vampire herself. For Stewart, the “Breaking Dawn” story line is also pivotal because it’s where the Forks teen comes into womanhood. “She’s a woman now and it blows my mind,” Stewart said of reprising her role as Bella one last time. “It’s going to be a completely different person to play. She’s like a matriarch now. She’s the strongest vampire, she literally can protect everyone. She’s literally impenetrable. I’m most excited about seeing Renesmee. It should be interesting, all of that stuff.” We’ll be live at the L.A. premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday, June 24.
