Lil Wayne And Tyga Get ‘Trippy’ For ‘Faded’ Video

‘I still wanted to keep it street and relatable, but I wanted to do something fun and creative,’ Tyga tells MTV News on video set in Miami. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ricky Louis Tyga on the set of his “Faded” music video Photo: MTV News Don’t expect Tyga to slow down anytime soon. Though the Young Money stand-out is still riding high off of his hit single “Rack City,” Tyga Tyga is fast at work, and this week he released the video for his Lil Wayne-assisted single “Faded.” Though the song bangs in the street, the Cali spitter didn’t want to limit his visuals to the block and flexed a bit of artistic muscle for the clip. “It’s crazy. The idea I had for it, I still wanted to keep it street and relatable, but I wanted to do something fun and creative,” Tyga told MTV News in February while on the video set in Miami. Who better to call than director Colin Tilley, who has used quite a bit of impressive visual effects in videos for Chris Brown and Lil Wayne. “As you can see, the setups that we got here is crazy. From the gold setup, to the spinning tunnel, just a bunch of trippy type stuff,” Tyga said. In one scene from the current MTV Jams Jam of the Week, Wayne and Tyga are animated with big heads, similar to the effect popularized by the 1993 arcade game “NBA Jam.” On his album Careless World: Rise of the Last King, Tyga sends poignant messages on songs like “King and Queens,” but “Faded” was really just about a vibe between Wayne and his prot

Justin Bieber Takes A Few Punches For Complex

‘I feel like it’s my responsibility to be the greatest I can be,’ he says in the magazine’s April/May issue. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the cover of Complex magazine Photo: Complex Justin Bieber appears bloodied and beat up on the cover of Complex magazine, and it’s a far cry from the Biebs’ well-groomed image. Inside the April/May issue, the 18-year-old opens up about his childhood and his very public relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez. He also discusses his upcoming album, Believe, pledging that it’s “go big or go home” once it drops later this year. “I feel like it’s my responsibility to be the greatest I can be,” the magazine cover boy says. “If I start making terrible music, I don’t expect people to like me. If I’m making great music and there’s no reason for people to dislike me, that’s when it’s going to make me upset. People just need to take a chance and listen. If they don’t want to take a chance, then I don’t know. That’s going to be the biggest problem: to make them feel like it’s cool for them to like my music.” Bieber hopes the new album will show his growth. It will include a number of collaborators, including Mike Posner, who produced lead single “Boyfriend,” set for release on March 26. “I just rap for fun; it’s nothing to take seriously,” he admits. “On my new album, I’m going to do a little bit of rapping,” he adds before giving a preview of a few lines from “Boyfriend.” “Tell me what you like, dear/ Tell me what you don’t/ I could be your Buzz Lightyear/ Fly across the globe/ You don’t even need to fight, dear/ You already know/ I can make you shine bright/ Like you’re laying in the snow, burr,” he raps. The superstar also goes into detail about his work ethic, saying that he sets the bar high for himself. “When I release something, I want it to be the best,” he says. “When I release my fragrance, I want it to be the #1 fragrance — I don’t want it to be the ninth-best-selling fragrance. My Christmas album went double-platinum worldwide. Christmas albums don’t do that, and that still wasn’t good enough for me.” What do you think of Justin’s new magazine cover? Biggie’s ‘Everyday Struggle’ A Highlight For Lil’ Cease

‘I was too young to understand everything in it, but I understood everything in it,’ Cease tells MTV News of 1994 track. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Notorious B.I.G. Photo: Bad Boy The Notorious B.I.G. had plenty of hit singles, like “Big Poppa” and “Hypnotize,” but more often than not, his album cuts were just as memorable. He may have only given fans two albums before he died on March 9, 1997, but Biggie crafted a catalog that is still celebrated 15 years after his death . Songs like “Gimme the Loot” and “Ten Crack Commandments” resonated with fans without music videos or radio play. Till this day, one of Lil’ Cease’s favorite B.I.G. songs is “Everyday Struggle,” from Big’s 1994 debut, Ready to Die. “I’m sure I was about 13,14,” Cease said, recalling his age when his friend first tracked the record. “I was too young to understand everything in it, but I understood everything in it.” On” Everyday Struggle,” the Notorious B.I.G. rapped with a hustler’s remorse. Rather than brag about his crack sales, like rappers often do, Big painted a picture of the downside of the street life. He rhymed about his mother’s disappointment with his lifestyle, the murder of his close friend “Two Techs” and horrific dope-fiend binges. “I don’t wanna live no mo’/ Sometimes I hear death knockin’ at my front door/ I’m living every day like a hustle, another drug to juggle/ Another day, another struggle,” he rapped on the hook. “Just that right there was our story. I was out there 11, 12 years old trying to do that, trying to hustle, trying to get out there and make money,” Cease said. Lil’ Cease estimates that Biggie was 19 years old when he recorded “Everyday Struggle”; to be able to paint such a vivid picture at such a young age was a rarity. “Just the music, the beat, the production and then the way Big was rhymin’ — me knowing Big was only 19 years old when he was writin’ all that stuff,” he said. “I watched Puffy listen to it, I watched [Hot 97 DJ] Mister Cee and [former Source magazine editor] Matty C and ’em listen to it. They was lookin’ at Big like he was a robot. “It just made me feel proud because I was actually a part of that,” Cease said. Given that the sport’s highlights are mostly dominated by slam dunks and buzzer-beaters, it’s not surprising that the most critical offensive aspect of basketball often falls by the wayside. Passing, the thing that makes those aforementioned dunks and buzzer-beaters possible (in most cases), hasn’t been perceived as flashy or exciting in most people’s eyes since Magic Johnson temporarily made it cool…. T.I. And B.o.B Wave Grand Hustle Flag At SXSW

Grand Hustle artists were joined by Wale, Meek Mill, Curren$y at Warner Music showcase. By Nadeska Alexis T.I. and B.o.B perform at SXSW Photo: Universal Pictures AUSTIN, Texas — There was no shortage of options in Austin, Texas, on Thursday night if you happened to be a hip-hop fan at SXSW on the hunt for a good show. While Lil Wayne and YMCMB put their talents on display at Austin Music Hall, just five minutes down the road T.I. , B.o.B , Wale , Meek Mill and Curren$y brought down the house at the Warner Sound showcase. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway hosted the event at La Zona Rosa, where Grand Hustle Records had a triumphant night and Maybach Music Group continued to rep their expanding roster. Curren$y, Kirko Bangz and XV got the packed house adequately warmed up for a night that easily stretched into the wee hours of Friday morning (March 16). Grand Hustle announced their arrival with B.o.B’s raucous entrance to “Beast Mode,” backed by a live band. His next number, “How Bout Dat,” commanded a fleet of backup dancers. He followed that with the upbeat single “Magic” off his debut album, B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. The song faded into a dubstep beat, pushing the dancers front and center to showcase their moves before the venue finally went dark. With nothing to see or hear, the crowd hung back, wondering what would be next. That would be Mr. Grand Hustle himself. “They say Grand Hustle is in the building,” Tip announced over the mic, followed by a long pause before “I’m Back” came booming through the speakers. “Rubberband Man” was a natural choice to follow, sending the crowd soaring along with “U Don’t Know Me.” Tip took a break only to plug his upcoming eighth album, Trouble Man, which is tentatively due out this summer, before continuing with fan favorites like “What You Know” and one of his more recent singles, “Pyro.” From there, B.o.B and T.I. continued to tag-team the set, and Tip was proud to announce that this was the first time he and his signee had “done a full show together.” Playboy Tre was on hand for “Bet I Bust.” “Don’t Let Me Fall” was delivered on acoustic guitar, and T.I. even threw in “Whatever You Like” to round out Bobby Ray’s “Airplanes” and “Strange Clouds,” the title track of his upcoming album. It was already after midnight when MMG rappers Meek Mill, Stalley and Wale finally took the stage. Meek and Stalley were up first, with energetic singles like “I’ma Boss” aiming to keep the crowd going. Wale did his part to keep the energy alive, performing his hits “Lotus Flower Bomb” and “Slight Work” and commanding a guest appearance from Travis Porter. The D.C. rapper closed out the night with his street anthem “Bait” and the cult favorite “No Hands.” Related Artists T.I. B.o.B Wale Meek Mill
